[Q] I need help with this bad problem

My MT4G is perm rooted running cyanogenmod 7.0.3 stable, and everytime i press the power button it boots into hboot (fastboot), and I cannot get out hboot because my volume buttons are not working so i cannot go up and down. I cant even get back to my rom. Is there any way that I can fix this? Thanks
try to boot in in recovery and run a backup (hopefully you made one) or just wipe the phone and reinstall the rom

Thanks for the help but I cant even boot it into recovery because none of the buttons work while on hboot. Is there any way to boot it into recovery without going through hboot or the rom?

I don't think you have an option here. The phone thinks the Volume Down button is being pressed, so that's why it's going into hboot. No matter what you do, it will boot into hboot until you get the volume buttons working.

Flash mode without volume keys

Hi, sorry for my really bad english. Im Argentinian. I have a little problem.
I cant enter in the flash mode, dont work the volume keys in my HD2, i cant navigate the MAGDLR menu, and its impossible install another ROM, a few months ago installed WP7 for testing the touchscreen (didnt work, replace it) but now dont work the volume keys and really want to go back to android.
There's another way to enter the flash menu??
thanks! and again sorry for the bad english
I have been hanging around the HD2 forums for a little over a year now and this problem has came up several times. And I have not read of any work around for getting into the bootloader without working volume up and down buttons and no Windows Mobile on the HD2.
Even if there was a work around to get to the bootloader, once you flash MAGLDR you can not use the volume buttons to scroll through the menu of MAGLDR. And it doesn't stop there you would also have to have the volume buttons to flash a Android ROM via Clockwork Mod Recovery.
So My advice to you is to see about getting the volume buttons fixed or get a new device. Sorry but that is the hard facts.

You dont need vol down only vol up
Vol up to get into recovery and if you press vol up in recovery at the top of the menu it will jump to the bottom so you can select your root zip with just vol up in cwm - not sure about stock recovery but you can always flash a custom kernel via odin to get cwm however to get to download mode you will need vol down
At the end of the day best to just go and get it repaired if you want to use it properly

Remapping MENU and RETURN touch buttons

Hi,
My L720-S4 is experiencing a failure of the touch buttons (menu and return buttons next to the home button). I've researched and tried various programs, such as Virtual Button Bar and Button Savior. With these programs, the return function works well but the MENU button does not work.
I've done Xposed but that didn't have the options for the MENU button that I could find.
So after further research, I rooted the device to edit the /SYSTEM/USR/KEYLAYOUT/GENERIC.KL file to change the volume down button (114) to MENU. Unfortunately this also does not work.
Can I get some advice or suggestion as how I may go about reprogramming on of the keys to act as the MENU button ideally or have a menu button GUI overlay like the two software above? Device is currently on stock ROM @ 4.4.2.
Many thanks in advance for those that can help save this S4.
Cheers!
The Sprint S4 boot loader comes unlocked, and since youre already rooted, just flash a stock ROM or ODIN back to stock and re-root. All of this assuming you just want the buttons to work like stock.

It's probably me but what you suggest seems to be where I'm at right now. Flashing back to stock then re-rooting is the same as me rooting the stock ROM. If at all possible, I'm trying to map the volume down button with one press to work in place of the defective MENU button and a long hold of the volume down button will lower the volume.
Again, maybe I miss understood your suggestion so my apologies if that's the case and hope you'll explain in more detail.
Cheers!

Can't get into recovery to save my life!

Guys, I'm wanting to get into recovery mode to wipe my Dalvik cache but for the life of me I can't get to it. I'm doing up+power+home and I go to screen saying 'Downloading do not restart target'. I guess this is download mode. How do I turn this off?
For kicks I tried down+power+home and it asks me if I want to enter download mode. Also tried up+down+power+home but this just does a normal boot.
I know this is probably something really basic but I just can't get in. I did have KingRoot installed a while back. Could this have caused the problem? Any help is greatly GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!
Hold power and volume down, then press volume up when the OS warning screen appears = download mode.
Hold power and volume up = recovery.
Don't bother with the home button. You don't need it. Should the key combinations not work correctly, you may have bad buttons on the motherboard.
Thanks for the quick reply. I double-checked my volume buttons and they work as they should (up = louder; down = softer). I tried power + up and still get the download mode screen. I even tried adb to boot into recovery and it brings me to that same 'Downloading do not restart target' screen.
Prior to writing my post above I tested my S4 to make sure I was giving correct information. Both key sequences worked on my S4.
The only thing I can think of is that you have a hardware issue with your volume down button. To test, try pressing and holding power without touching a volume button. If you enter OS warning mode without pressing a volume button, then your volume down button is worn out and needs to be replaced.
My reasoning is this.
Button failures are the most common issue with the Galaxy S4.
You instantly enter download mode by pressing power and volume up while being unable to enter recovery at all. This means you're skipping a step in accessing download mode, which wouldn't happen if all the buttons were working correctly.
Maybe, but shouldn't my phone go into recovery when I send the command to enter recovery from adb? It just reboots and goes to downloading. My buttons work fine when using the phone when android is up so I'm doubting that it is a hardware issue.
It should, but something is interfering with that. I'd go back to stock using Odin, simply to ensure all parts of the firmware match. Then see if you can get into the stock recovery with the key combo. If you are able to, then you can restore TWRP and flash a custom ROM. Otherwise the device needs to be looked at.
Thanks for the reply. I'm running the stock os without root. All I really want to do is wipe Dalvik cache. Can I do that from adb?
Yep.
