My MT4G is perm rooted running cyanogenmod 7.0.3 stable, and everytime i press the power button it boots into hboot (fastboot), and I cannot get out hboot because my volume buttons are not working so i cannot go up and down. I cant even get back to my rom. Is there any way that I can fix this? Thanks
try to boot in in recovery and run a backup (hopefully you made one) or just wipe the phone and reinstall the rom

Thanks for the help but I cant even boot it into recovery because none of the buttons work while on hboot. Is there any way to boot it into recovery without going through hboot or the rom?

I don't think you have an option here. The phone thinks the Volume Down button is being pressed, so that's why it's going into hboot. No matter what you do, it will boot into hboot until you get the volume buttons working.

You either need to un-root and put everything back exactly the way it was, or you need to use a RRU to wipe the phone and put a new system image on it.
I fixed it. Found solution by manually updating update.zip via recovery.
same problem here can you tell me how to get to recovery?

Power off the phone. Start it back up by holding the power+Volume Down buttons at same time. You'll boot into HBOOT. Wait a few seconds for it to scan your card and do it's thing. Then navigate to the Recovery link by using the volume down button. Hit power to select.
What's wrong:
I cannot go in bootloader mode with the hardware keys.
When I press vol up + trackpad + power i get 3 short vibrates and charging led flashes, screen stays off.
I can access bootloader if I use reboot bootloader from a adb shell.
This is what happened:
I have bootloader 0.84.2000 PC10110000 (eng hboot) and rage method root on desire-z with stock rom (1.34.405.5).
I also flashed godspeed OC kernel
I wanted to protect myself from losing root and s-off if I would do the ota update.
I have read that gfree would accomplish this.
So I decided to do this, but I made the mistake of doing this within recovery.
I ran gfree, but my sdcard wasn't mounted, So after a reboot I didn't find the backup of my radio partition, this way I lost my original radio config partion.
When I rebooted, I wanted to check my S-off was still persent or not. and I couldn't get into the bootloader.
I got 3 short vibrates and a flashing red/orange charging led.
I can access recovery and bootloader from adb shell with reboot recovery/bootloader.
I know what I did wrong, but don't know how to fix it.

I got a question.
I did this last week, and it seemed that it was done successfuly. The problem is that I tried to boot into recovery by pressing Volume + and power and I got three vibrations and the LED light just flashed red. I had to battery pull to be able to get the phone going again.
So that means I can only access recovery through ROM Manager, which makes me uneasy because it means that if I get a boot-loop I could potentially be screwed...

That's not how you boot into recovery. The good news is that you have proved you have radio S-OFF, because unless you have that then you don't get that flashing amber light state. You put the phone into a different recovery mode where I believe a PC can talk to the OSBL, but currently we don't have any documented procedures on how to use that mode.
You can get into recovery by holding Volume *Down* and Power, then you'll get into HBOOT. Then you can choose the "Recovery" option and it will boot you into Clockwork Recovery (assuming you've got that flashed).

So actually all of us who have used gfree have this same function, wouldn't actually call it a problem, just another unexplored utility.

Hey
Thx for your response, I tried the vol down and power and it worked.
I'm glad to see my phone is still ok.
This thread can be closed if needed.
I previously thought I had rooted and tried out a some custom ROMs. Decided to revert to a nandroid backup of stock I made before flashing but got errors and the phone hangs on 1st mytouch logo. S is off according to hboot screen, and I am able to get into fastboot and recovery (with CWM 2.5.1.2). I've tried using my nandroid backup and its gives an error: "E:format_root_device: can't find mmc partition "boot"". I've successfully rolled back from a custom ROM to stock before, So I'm not sure what happened. I have also tried having hboot flash PDIMG15 but when it begins it skips a bunch of folders, it gives me an error about E: , it says "FAILED (remote: not allowed)". Does that mean s is on somehow or root is screwed up? At this point I'm afriad I will have to go back to t-mob and buy a new phone . Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Did you go from cm6 to cm7?
Try flashing a cm6 rom, you cant use clockwork 2.5.12 for cm7 roms and you cant use cw3+ for cm6 roms.
Flash cm6 from recovery then update clockrom in rom manager. The boot in recovery and flash cm7

PDIMG15 should be foolproof.
Have you checked the file or your sd card for errors?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I agree that PDIMG should be foolproof. It may be your SD card. Try re-flashing recovery through fastboot, then reformatting your SD card. Then copy the PDIMG again with nothing else on the card and give that a shot. You could also try flashing CWM 3 and see if you can flash a 2.3 ROM.
phone replaced
I tried the sd card format method with a quick format and a normal and still no success. Maybe a bad sdcard. Either way walked into t-mob and naively said my phone doesn't work, got it replaced. (Only had it for 9 days) Since it was still within 14 they swapped it no questions asked really. Thanks for the help either way. I may just have to stick with stock sense for a while and just be content with launcher pro. I've been reading that the front facing camera doesn't work on a lot of custom roms anyway and my wife and I both got MT4gs so I like the video call feature enough to stick with it.
I too had the same problem, what I did was to use the Nandroid backup located here in the MT4G forums. I have that on my sd card and when all failsI revert back thru that nandroid backup. Try that and let me know how it goes.
**edit**
sorry did not read that you had returned it.

If her phone is not rooted and you arent trying to flash custom ROMs then it doesnt sound like s=off is going to help you.
Ive seen this happen as a hardware problem (probably from dropping the phone to much) and also software, somehow the boot file gets corrupt
If you cant get her phone to get passed the first tmobile boot screen i would suggest you try to reset the phone.
1. Turn the MyTouch 4G off. pull the battery and replace it.
2. Press and hold the Volume Down button.
3. Press and hold the Power button for 5 seconds (while holding the volume down button) then release the power. Continue to hold Volume Down.
4. When you see the Android logo appear, you may then release Volume Down.
5. Now use the Volume Up/Down buttons to highlight Factory reset.
6. Press the Power button to select.
She will lose all data stored on the phone (not the sd card, just the phone) however if the phone isnt turning on that data isnt much good anyways...

What do you mean by "wont go anywhere"? When you hold down volume and power you should get a screen with three androids on skateboards on the bottom of the screen. Near the middle of the screen there should be some options
Fastboot
Recovery
Factory Reset
Simlock
System Info
Image CRC
You should be able to use your volume buttons on the side of the phone to scroll up and down through that list. when you have the option you want highlighted (in this case factory reset) you can selected it by pressing the power button.
are you able to do that, or are you stuck somewhere else?
Please help out as well i have same problem but even after trying to factory reset it still goes into hboot screen. Problem is on a spare phone just need help asap. If you can help i can attach gmail or gtalk or something. Please help tho

what is the problem you are seeing? When you turn your phone on does it go right to hboot? does it boot up? does it freeze up at the first splash screen? does it freeze at boot animation? does it get to the boot animation then reboot?
When the power button is hit it goes right into hboot no options to let me go to home screen. I can access fastboot and hboot but i cannot get past these two at all i know the phone is not rooted. the volume keys are acting up a little bit and not letting me get anywhere. If you can help please PM me it would be greatly appreciated
Your volume keys are stuck (physically or electrically), specifically VolumeDown key, and that's the reason for the misbehavior. In any case, it's almost certainly a HW problem.
Thats what i've been thinking as well and tried seeing whats going on and it doesnt seem that there stuck have to pull some stuff apart in any case do you know how to fix this though and get it to boot?
If you don't have warranty - open the phone and fix/disconnect the volume buttons.
If you have warranty - send it for repairs.
It won't boot when VolDown is pressed, whatever you do.
I just reset mytouch 4g phone and during restart the recovery screen just come out but I can't move down or up anything on the screen it just stuck..
I just update cm to version 3 of something
please I really need help on this my phone is already S-off
when I plug the phone with USB it response something by HBOOT has changed to HBOOT USB PLUG
I use Stock Rom just update Kernal only
Need more specifics. "3 of something" is too vague.
If you flashed clockwork mod recovery 3 (the text is orange) while using a stock ROM you will have issues. Clockwork 3 is for gingerbread based ROMs only.
If that is so, download CyanogenMOD 7 RC1 and try to flash it. Rebooting may help get recovery working right again. If not, and you are unable to re-flash a ROM, you will need to use fastboot to re-flash a good recovery image.

Your attached image is of the Bootloader, not CWM Recovery.
The Bootloader is controlled by volume up / volume down to move between selections, and the power button is used to select.

You might see if the Bootloader can communicate with fastboot on your PC. If so, you will have options for un-bricking from your PC.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928370 for info on installing adb and fastboot to your PC, and using them.
Fastboot is designed to communicate with the bootloader. As far as I know, however, adb requires a functioning Android or Recovery system.

One more question, after following your advice, I found that I now can restart my phone again but when I shut down the phone and turn it on again it still stuck on bootloader screen all the times...any suggestion would be appreciate...
You can "restart my phone again" -- is it running Android at that point? If so, you can restore your phone to stock, and do a full factory reset, by putting the P15IMG.zip file on the root of your SD card and rebooting. The bootloader (if it is functional) should find it and begin the restore procedure.
Dowload, rename this, and stick it on your SD card, and reboot. If after a successful return to factory defaults, your phone still isn't working, the problem is likely not software.

Hi guys,
So my Nexus One has suddenly become unresponsive to my touches
It'll boot up but wont respond via touch screen or trackball, so I can't unlock it or wake it after sleep.
It'll wake once plugged in.
ADB won't recognise it either.
The power button is broken, but I can get into HBoot by holding trackball (so it is working!) and putting the battery in and out.
Is there some way to go from HBoot to recovery so I can flash an old backup without the power button?
Or any other way to get into recovery?
Please don't let my baby die :'(
Thanks.
Oh and I think ADB isn't working because I have debugging disabled :X
My only current suggestion to to try to install Blackrose's hboot as you can select **** with the trackball instead of the powerbutton. From here you can boot into recovery like normal from hboot. I do not know of any command (if you can even enter any in) to reboot straight to recovery, my bad. But you say trackball is not working?
Can use the trackball to enter HBoot so it is working. It's just that neither the screen or the trackball work once the phone has booted up and at the lock screen.
Is there some .zip I can place on the SD card and then boot into HBoot which will automatically run and either take me to Recovery or factory reset?
EDIT: since the power button is broken I can't select any options in Hboot, only scroll through them using the volume keys.
Alright, I thought I had read this.
Going to try the passimg.zip trick
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...des_&_Tutorials#Unroot_.2F_Restore_your_Nexus
Sweet that worked
Now have Froyo (brings back the memories...) Now to try a Nandroid back up.
Edit: Ok so that passimg.zip DOES unroot the phone too, so going to start the rooting process again.
