Messed something up: probably radio config I think :s - G2 and Desire Z General

What's wrong:
I cannot go in bootloader mode with the hardware keys.
When I press vol up + trackpad + power i get 3 short vibrates and charging led flashes, screen stays off.
I can access bootloader if I use reboot bootloader from a adb shell.
This is what happened:
I have bootloader 0.84.2000 PC10110000 (eng hboot) and rage method root on desire-z with stock rom (1.34.405.5).
I also flashed godspeed OC kernel
I wanted to protect myself from losing root and s-off if I would do the ota update.
I have read that gfree would accomplish this.
So I decided to do this, but I made the mistake of doing this within recovery.
I ran gfree, but my sdcard wasn't mounted, So after a reboot I didn't find the backup of my radio partition, this way I lost my original radio config partion.
When I rebooted, I wanted to check my S-off was still persent or not. and I couldn't get into the bootloader.
I got 3 short vibrates and a flashing red/orange charging led.
I can access recovery and bootloader from adb shell with reboot recovery/bootloader.
I know what I did wrong, but don't know how to fix it.

I got a question.
I did this last week, and it seemed that it was done successfuly. The problem is that I tried to boot into recovery by pressing Volume + and power and I got three vibrations and the LED light just flashed red. I had to battery pull to be able to get the phone going again.
So that means I can only access recovery through ROM Manager, which makes me uneasy because it means that if I get a boot-loop I could potentially be screwed...

That's not how you boot into recovery. The good news is that you have proved you have radio S-OFF, because unless you have that then you don't get that flashing amber light state. You put the phone into a different recovery mode where I believe a PC can talk to the OSBL, but currently we don't have any documented procedures on how to use that mode.
You can get into recovery by holding Volume *Down* and Power, then you'll get into HBOOT. Then you can choose the "Recovery" option and it will boot you into Clockwork Recovery (assuming you've got that flashed).

So actually all of us who have used gfree have this same function, wouldn't actually call it a problem, just another unexplored utility.

Hey
Thx for your response, I tried the vol down and power and it worked.
I'm glad to see my phone is still ok.

[Solved] Am I completely unrooted?

I did search around before posting this.
I am sending in my phone for replacement (Screen issue) I did the rooting procedure that first came out for the device to get S=OFF
I ran the PD15IMG file because I read that was all I needed to do to get S=ON.
The phone says S=ON after unrooting.
Is clockwork recovery totally gone? Is there anyway to make sure it's completely back to stock before I return it?
restoring pd15img makes it completely stock, i believe

open up terminal emulator, type su and see what it says
reboot into recovery, if you get the red triangle w/ the phone behind it, thats the stock recovery
try opening any apps you may have that are "root" only and see if they give you permission.

I tried su and it says access denied. I trying booting into recovery and nothing is there (volume down + power or vol up + power) tried both. No Red triangle and no blue recovery. Am I doing it right?
EDIT: Okay so I need to use Google a little more. Volume Down + Power gets you to fastboot. From there you select recovery and get the Red Triangle then Volume Up + Power to get to recovery. It's all stock now and good to go. Thanks for your help guys.
FYI for anyone searching for this thread.... This only unroots your phone if you used the original method for getting S=OFF. The gfree method is different.
after u hold volume down and up + power, u have to read the given options on the screen...click volume down to scroll over 'recovery' to be selected then u click the power button to confirm booting in recovery mode...thats when youll see the black screen with a red errorneous triangle and a picture of a phone behind it.
thats wat i tried from also using pd15img to restore...and so far as to wat ppl here say...i confirmed these steps for my phone..i guess this means my phone is completely unrooted and stock as the day it came out of the box. great!

I just update cm to version 3 of something

Need more specifics. "3 of something" is too vague.
If you flashed clockwork mod recovery 3 (the text is orange) while using a stock ROM you will have issues. Clockwork 3 is for gingerbread based ROMs only.
If that is so, download CyanogenMOD 7 RC1 and try to flash it. Rebooting may help get recovery working right again. If not, and you are unable to re-flash a ROM, you will need to use fastboot to re-flash a good recovery image.

Your attached image is of the Bootloader, not CWM Recovery.
The Bootloader is controlled by volume up / volume down to move between selections, and the power button is used to select.

You might see if the Bootloader can communicate with fastboot on your PC. If so, you will have options for un-bricking from your PC.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928370 for info on installing adb and fastboot to your PC, and using them.
Fastboot is designed to communicate with the bootloader. As far as I know, however, adb requires a functioning Android or Recovery system.

One more question, after following your advice, I found that I now can restart my phone again but when I shut down the phone and turn it on again it still stuck on bootloader screen all the times...any suggestion would be appreciate...
You can "restart my phone again" -- is it running Android at that point? If so, you can restore your phone to stock, and do a full factory reset, by putting the P15IMG.zip file on the root of your SD card and rebooting. The bootloader (if it is functional) should find it and begin the restore procedure.
Dowload, rename this, and stick it on your SD card, and reboot. If after a successful return to factory defaults, your phone still isn't working, the problem is likely not software.

Need help.

Hi there,
Yesterday i just wanted to reboot my DHD, but Revolution HD 3.6 did not came back.
The screen went automaticly to HBOOT mode.
So after removed the battery for some time and put it back. Pressed power button and Hboot mode came again. Also found that can not navigate through the menu via VOL+/-.
Tried many times with no success. So tried to find some informations on this forum but did not find similar thread to mine problem.
I don't know exactly, but maybe you have issue with VOL - button? mb it is 'stuck'??
I can't see other reason for phone to boot in HBOOT mode... if ROM is broken then it should load normally but then restart/throw error, dunno exactly it's behaviour if ROM is broken.
Power phone off by any method.
Hold vol- and press power.
Does this take you to recovery?
Also, please edit you thread subject to make it more specific. Obviously you're looking for help. "Need help" is hardly going to be useful to others.

Does not. Phone always goes to HBoot. Before I rebooted the phone everything worked perfect.
It happened when I woke up then I took the phone and turned on buzzer by pushing VOL+ button. After that Power button and "reboot". So rule out the possibility a problem with buttons

First I was thinking to edit the title later on as I had no idea how to name it. But it is not possible to edit the title. Sorry about my mistake

MICROP-0438

<VOL UP> to previous item
<VOL DOWN> to next item
<POWER> to select item
FASTBOOT this is also highlighted

FACTORY RESET
SIMLOCK

So if you select Recovery from the HBoot menu it restarts straight back in to HBoot again instead of going to recovery?
If that is the case I'm afraid you might have to select the Factory Reset option.
If that allows the phone to boot ok you should then be able to go back to recovery and restore a the last NAND backup.

The problem is that it is not possible to choice any option from HBoot menu.
Looks like VOL+/- are disabled. One post ago i wrote that HBoot is highlighted and Fastboot is highlighted. So if I click on power it should switch to Fasboot mode but it doesn't. Phone is stuck in Hboot mode.
Do you know if you used jkoljo's Radio S-OFF tool? If so you can flash the 1.32 PD98IMG.zip and start from scratch.
Should I follow with this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054304
No, that is for flashing radios. Find the downgrade thread and download the PD98IMG.zip from there. Is your handset branded?
is not branded and simlock free.
You shouldn't need a goldcard then, just place the downgrade PD98IMG.zip on your SDcard and boot into bootloader.
Got PD98IMG.zip on SD card.
Restart the phone. Phone start loading the file than stuck again on parsing.
nothing happend with PD98IMG.zip.
Any Ideas?
How long has it been stuck?
on this screen for 1 hour and bricked since Thursday
Ok, So the PD98IMG.zip failed. Have you tried the 1.32.405.x RUU~.exe?
Did. no sucess. Error 170
no communication but on command: fastboot devices I have a respond :
HT0A5RXO0924
command: adb devices says nothing
Ok lads,
I see all known methods and tools doesn't work but does anyone have an idea how to kill the informations on screen that the phone been rooted? or kill it totally?
In this cause I'll be able to the risk and send this phone to repair.
Ok, you can attempt to flash each component seperately within fastboot.
Unzip the PD98IMG.zip and move boot.img, recovery.img, system.img, radio.img to your SDK/tools folder.
Now use fastboot to flash these
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash radio radio.img
ok. trying
no success, see attachment

[Q] bootloader issues

I am trying to get into the bootloader of my device by pushing up and power but it vibrates twice, nothing comes up and the orange led keeps blinking
I got into the stock recovery on accident, and it wiped my bootloader? I did the temp root and tried to push the engineering bootloader it still won't work.
edit: nevermind. LOL

To get to the bootloader, you hold Volume Down and Power. (The jury is still out on what Volume Up and Power does.)
The stock recovery first shows an image of a handset inside a triangle with an exclamation point, or something like that. Pressing Volume Up and Power then reveals the recovery menu. I assume you'll be replacing that with a custom recovery image soon.
If you did the command properly to flash the engineering bootloader, then your device should boot up and you'll see hboot 0.85.2007 on the second line of your bootloader. If your device doesn't boot, then I'm afraid you're screwed.

[Q] safe mode, getting to fastboot, and returning to stock

I'm having reral trouble gettng my n4 into fastboot. all the buttons work, vol up, vol down and the power on all work fine but if I try and press all 3 simultaneously I just boot the device normally. I've managed to get to fast boot just once in 2 dozen tries. what is the trick? I've tried pushing all 3 at once, I've tied pressing both vol up and down, holding thm, then pressing and holding the power button too. always just vibrates, and boots normally.
just now while trying on the last attempt it booted normally but the screen had 'safe mode' in the bottom left corner. that freaked me a bit. turned it off, then on again and it went away. wtf is 'safe mode' and how did I get it?
I want to...I think...root and flash a rom the proper way, step by step using efrant's guide on here, rather than a script from the toolkit, but since I can't seem to get to fastboot I'm stuck
this is all just to get to 4.3 really....I rooted using the toolkit and OTA updates haven't been running so still on 4.2.1 and thought I should sort that out. had a bit of a 'mare l2 nights agot when I unlocked the bootloader to go about returning to stock and forgot that would wipe the device...losing lat weeks holiday photos in the process I think the tool kit and one press type 'unlock, flash this, flash that etc etc' commands lulled me into not thinking for myself so perhaps I ought to do this properly!
BTW, I'm currently with a locked bootloader, stock 4.2.1 rom, stock recovery reflashed, no su binary (cinfirmed by attempting to run SU app, and it not finding the binary). I've been waiting for the OTA update to push to the device again (I've forced checkins but to no avail) to attempt to run it, should it run properly now or have I to do something more?
You need to hold power and volume down, if that doesn't work then try adb reboot boot loader

thanks. tried holding volume down and then also power as well and again it booted normally. looks like adb commands it is then. bit of a pain to have to hook to a pc to do this....not that I'm a regular custom rom flasher/swapping between roms and nandroid backups etc but it would be handy....I learnt that with my old desire.
has anyone else had problems getting there holding the buttons?
oh and I found what safe mode is from the google nexus 4 site. a mode where the apps don't work so you can check for problems that they may be causing. how I got to it doesn't match with the descried way though...just a weird glitch I guess.
okay I'm all sorted for now. I used the toolkit and flashed the entire set of stock .img after downloading the archive from google
now on 4.3, and as far as I can see that is with stock recovery, system, radio the lot. I've left it unrooted (so no su binary, no busy box, no su app - although the phone is currently synching and downloading my apps again..I guess this will come too) so if I understand things correctly future OTAs will run.
I've left the bootloader unlocked as efrant, in his 'how to' guide says
'Do NOT re-lock your bootloader after you are finished. The is no need. 2) Having an unlocked bootloader does not affect anything related to the ROM/GoogleWallet/OTAs. Nothing at all.' and he explains that unlocking in the future to enable fastboot commands to work and hence flash roms in the future results in a wipe of data. So...I think...I'm up to date, stock, safe and future OTAs will run....i hope. I do understand though, that should the device need to back to Google I should relock the bootloader first or they will know I've been playing around (where possibly I shouldn't!)
okay....think I can go ahead and set up again. :victory:
Ooo good! and whatever I've done I can get into the bootloader fine now :victory: simply holding vol down and then pressing and holding the power button now works every time. good.
