Hi,
I think we should all tweet https://twitter.com/#!/SamsungMobileUS for gingerbread update for vibrant.
If we all do it then they will be flooded with tweets and it will be hard for their support staff to work properly on twitter .
Tweet atleast once.
Thanks
Are you serious?
Go mess with T-mobile not Samsung.
They dont pay for support, they dont get one.
You know about kies mini right?

Why would we bug T-mobile when the last update to KB5 came directly from Samsung through Kies Mini? The carrier wasn't involved at all.

Wrong, the carrier has to request that an update be made, and T-Mobile requested that kb5 be released, but T-Mobile doesn't like doing ota for the vibrant. So the did kies mini, and T-Mobile requested kies mini be made.

Is that why on the T-Mobile forums T-mobile basically said they have nothing to do with the KB5 update and that it is optional and must be done through Samsung Kies Mini?
If Samsung is so much in favour of us then why don't they use intentional build leak method.... and when T mobile cry they can always say they never released anything...It is SAMSUNG fault for sure.
Bug them
samsung galaxy s has gingerbread all europe and almost all over the world except usa/north america. Even galaxy mini get gingerbread this days....so....i think t-mo is the problem.

No it isnt, they have updated the SGS outside the US in a very timely manner, the problem is that the carrier controls updates to their device here in the US and must request and pay Samsung for one, Regardless of delivery method it is Tmobile who controls it. Why would Samsung waste time & money on making an unofficial update for the vibrant? If Tmobile doesnt want it they have better things to do with their time that will make them more money, hence no leaks. The other carriers I am assuming have already paid for their updates, hence the leaks. Now whether or not those updates are released officially are up to the carrier once again, either via OTA or otherwise.

Again, why did Samsung release KB5 through Samsung Kies then? T-Mobile themselves on their forum has said they have nothing to do with kB5, it is completely optional and up to the customer to apply via Samsung Kies and not through T-Mobile
I don't know whose blame is it, all I know is that i'm already buggin' both of them, so we should all do the same! what else can we lose anyway?

Again, you're missing the point. T-Mobile requested the update, but refuse to do an ota for it (hence it being optional). If T-Mobile hadn't requested kb5 be made/released, we wouldn't have gotten it. Period.
Tmobule HAS t request the update, then T-Mobile gets to decide when the update goes live into the public's hands.
And kies mini? That WAS created because of T-Mobile. The ota for ji6 failed so miserably, they needed a better way to release the update and also keep liability for breakage off of T-Mobile.

It's not so much an argument as making sure someone knows the company to properly blame. I love Tmobile but truth be told they are terrible with updates. Not to say the other carriers are much better, I just wish we had less carrier BS in the states and actually got updates like the rest if the world =/

Blame Sprint. If you want to install 2.1 now, just root it. What a lot of people did.

Been rooted since uhhhhhhhh hmmm like nov. Been running 2.1 long time ass well I just don't get how suddenly verizon one ups sprint again it's beginning to get old real fast
Idle observation:
What did Sprint do to itself? Verizon can push an 80+ MB file OTA, but Sprint can't manage more than 9 MB? It isn't a network limitation, or DCUpdater wouldn't be able to push updated ROMs, so what kind of insane throttling have they cursed themselves with?
In my opinion there just flat afraid something will go wrong with an ota update like that wasn't there a update to the instinct that bricked it if I'm not mistaken but nonetheless a companies gotta be willing to take chances if they wanna stay afloat especially in times like these

I read some where sprints OTA can only do minor updates like 9 or 10mb. The reason DCupdater and all that can do it, cuz its downloading it from a hosted website, and its not updating the phone. Its just downloading a file, and you have to manually flash it through recovery.

Sprint has a miniscule OTA update service. When I had the Instinct, an OTA actually DID brick my phone. Probably because it was 100mb or something. Sprint's OTA service can only handle maintenance releases, we need to get 2.1 OTW.
Some of the firmware releases for the Palm Pre have clocked in at over 100 megabytes and they have delivered as OTA updates on Sprint's network several times.
Why are we taking the word of a discredited supposed Sprint employee as gospel as far as this "9 megabyte limit" is concerned when actual evidence demonstrates that it isn't true?

Well, if I remember correctly (I had a Palm Pre for a short period of time before I switched to the Hero), much like Google does with the Nexus One, Palm was the one that actually handled the OTA updates. So again, used the Sprint network, but it was Palm's servers supplying the update. If they had any fear of "bricking" the Pre, I guess they were prepared to place the blame on Palm if necessary.

You know what, I think Samsung is 50 percent to Blame. The other 50 percent is T-Mobile. T-MOBILE...simply does not support their phones.
Buying the G2 will be the same damn story. Sure it will come with 2.2, but as soon as 3.0 comes along, every other carrier will have it months before T-Mobile releases it on the G2, and you will cry and complain "the more and more I want Verizon."
I honestly think the problem is T-Mobile, and not so much the handset manufacturers.
tmobile is throwing Samsung under the bus, I got this back from a message I sent to Tmobiles facebook a bit ago..
Robert,
We understand your interest on updates Samsung is working on one and as soon as we have any more information on this we will communicate it.
.. notice they say that Samsung is working on one, I did ask about 2.2 though and not the gps fix.

Honestly, my biggest regret was leaving at&t. I left because I wasn't interested in an iphone, I noticed no good new WM apps were coming along, and I wanted a 3.5 mm headphone jack on my phone. The nexus filled all those needs so when it was released I jumped ship to t-mobile. I found out the grass isn't always greener on the other side.
I still have no idea why people say T-Mobiles customer support is better than AT&T; from everything I've seen it isn't even close.
Someone else posted on here before about T-Mobiles BB getting upgraded to V.5 not too long ago.. they have 6 out or it's close to release. T-Mobile does lack in this "Software/Firmware" Update department. They have some decent phones but don't support them enough.
It's amazing, when the G1 came out, yes it was the first Android phone but updates rolled out pretty quick. I know it was stock "Vanilla" Android but updates were addressed in a timely manor. But now they have the My Touch, My Touch Slide and Cliq series and now the Galaxy S phone.

So what its perfectly ok for other Galaxy S phones that haven't been out as long as the Vibrant to be getting their updates, but not us? Honestly, I really think it has to do a lot with TMO and not Sammy. Luckily, I've rooted and running a custom ROM and Voodoo fix. I also know that doing that is not for everyone though.
The Captivate came out what like 3 days after the Vibrant? Maybe tmo and Samsung are waiting to see how the update goes on the Captivate. It wont matter anyways we could get it tomorrow and people will still complain that it's not 2.2 or their phone is still not fast enough or some other bullcrap.

Your joking right? First almost 2 1/2 months. Second the others all got a update as mentioned.
All other phones with 1ghz are running froyo, even a hd2 without android has it.lom
I vote we get /b/ to start ****. Maybe then we might get some movement from T-Mo and Samsung... just me? >.>
not that it will do anything to Tmobile but I've decided that whoever gets 2.2 on the Galaxy S device first is who I will be switching to. If its Tmobile then I won't be going anywhere, but if another carrier can get it out before Tmobile see ya.
Tmobile launched this device First int he US there is no reason they should not be the first to release the OS update even if it takes them till November
I do agree that they need to support their phones better. But at least TMO isn't forcing bing down our throats either.
I come from the Blackberry side of the fence and I remember when 5.0 devices were new last year it took forever for TMO to release an update for the 9700, and that original release was filled with bugs. I finally gave up on waiting for them and simply downloaded another carrier's release. Easy to do on that platform.
I like the Vibrant for the most part. Yes it has bugs; yes it's quality needs to be improved. Yes the GPS kind of sucks. But what other high-end phone out there doesn't have issues these days? I'm sure the G2 will have them as well.
I bought a Galaxy S from Bell Canada in august. Made the update to JH2 trough kies. Had the GPS bug (locked fine, but was sometimes way off (1-3 streets off)).
I told Bell. They said they didn't know any GPS problem affecting their device.
I tried many differents things, but I still had the problem so I recorded tracks with both my Hero and my Galaxy S to prove that the Galaxy S has a bug.
I called Samsung. I told them that I had a bug with the GPS. They said that they were not aware of any GPS bug affecting the GT-i9000M (the canadian version).
I went to Bell and asked for a repair. Seems like I was the first in Canada to report the problem because they told me again that there was no report on such problem, so it must be a specific problem with my device. They give me a Samsung Omnia II for the time of the repair. Worst touch screen ever, almost useless compared to a Galaxy S.
My device came back "repaired" (what they did was a factory reset and allegedly a ROM update, but it was JH2 before and after the repair, so this is bull****). In short they did nothing but loose my time.
Of course, I still have the exact same bug, the repair guy probably didn't even test it.
I call Bell again. Shock! Horror! They admit that there is a problem with ALL Galaxy S. Finally! Not that I told them since August... And it's not only in Canada, according to the tech support agent, it affects devices from all around the world. And that I shouldn't worry because the update to 2.2 will be released everywhere in the world in November and will fix that. Great!
Oh wait. The update to 2.2 is already released in some parts of Europe. I am not even sure that it fixes the GPS. At least I have an audio recording of Bell telling me that the bug will be fixed with an update in November. Better than nothing I guess.
+1

sorry to say but some tech reps are more informed than others because they take time to do their own independant research. One tech i talked to barley knew a thing about the galaxy S, while another rep was fascinated by it and couldnt wait to get their own. Mine is in repair for faulty internal SD, lets hope froyo will fix the gps, as i didnt send it in for that issue.
Those who know something about the Galaxy S (and other smartphones) are the so-called "data" support.

Well, I think that of course the response is "we haven't heard about any bugs". It's business -- they aren't allowed to admit to anything unless an order comes from the top to announce that a certain bug .. or a few bugs have been found. I haven't seen any admittals from Samsung that SGS is slow, laggy and the 2.2 update is crap. Or that there are any bugs at all. That would crash sales.
Same here
I got pretty much the same info. been through the same ordeal. I don't think I can last til the end of november for a maybe fix that might not fix anything or might get pushed back to january or even february or??? At least now with them endorsing the issue it should not be as hard to fight for an exchange, maybe get a Z.....

Well that's not the GPS bug I am talking about. My GPS locks just fine (as already said). The problem is that it is not always precise. But anyways xtra1.gpsonextra.net seems farther aways (mesured by ping times) than north-america.pool.ntp.org, so it should not fix anything.
And north-america.pool.ntp.org works just fine on my HTC Hero.

I am very curious as to what software you used to record that call?
You didn't use a Korean Galaxy S (SHW-M110S) by any chance, did you? Because its firmware has a native call recorder function that I would die to get my hands on, but unfortunately Samsung doesn't allow international Galaxy S users to flash to the Korean firmware Send me a PM if you know how to force flash it!

All companies do that. Focusing on all the bugs takes the attention from the good to the bad. Basic stuff. All the companies that made you any of the things you own operate on the same principle. This is business. This is life.
But this does not mean they are not working hard on fixing the issues -- believe me, they are. Our comments and complaints are very important in bringing these things out. Stuff that gets discussed here on XDA dev is _vital_.

Yes, we totally are kidding!
Verizon released Froyo for the Fascinate yesterday, but they just won't give it to you. Why? We're not sure. Maybe you didn't pay your bill on time, or maybe they're prejudiced against people with {insert your hair color here} hair. They can be pretty capricious that way.

Toodles!

Actually, I would gladly take 2.2 without flash to get JIT and chrome to phone, not to mention some apps are coded to only work on newer versions.

I would, but the majority of the tools and noobs in here only care about Flash. I'm actually most excited about JIT and the ability to upgrade integrated apps independent of software updates (like Gmail for example)

Really? Don't leave us Adrynalyne. It's making me mad too. I was forced to update to DL09 since I got my phone replaced today, and I went back to DJ05. And then the CD bug happened. It's such an awesome phone, crippled by poor carrier/manufacturer support.
Im not leaving...its just the OCD in me kills me on things like this.
We got it resolved yesterday, anyway.
I'm new to this forum and still trying to find my way around it, so could you point me in the direction of the usb situation fix please? Thank you.

Looks like sprint is making gingerbread for the epic... I dont know if because this is a CDMA phone if this helps us at all. But it does give me hope that maybe, just maybe verizon will do the same!

One can only hope.

Thats too bad but here is to hoping that verizon decides to not take forever again.... Maybe the new 18 month upgrade plan from google IO can help out.
I suspect Verizon will be forced to do a 2.3 update with the recently divulged security flaw in 2.2.

Has Verizon fixed the locally-exploitable issue with Android < 2.3.3 yet (you know, the one that ended up with Google pulling a bunch of apps from the market that were actively exploiting it)?
Nothing also prevents Verizon from backporting the fix, or simply ignoring it. It doesn't seem like it would be very easy to exploit (you have to perform a MITM attack on a token that's usable for 14 days? Sounds like a fairly small window of opportunity!).
As for the agreement to update devices for up to 18 months... I doubt it applies retroactively.
In case anyone hadn't yet noticed, Verizon sucks.

I agree. I really wish though that google would pull their pants up and tell US carriers whats up. It's googles OS but it seems like the phone companies get to beat the hell out of it and google just gets to watch. It should be a little more take it or leave it, this is our baby kind of a deal I feel.
Though at this point that is just a fading dream.

True and False. I have had everything but Sprint and Verizon is the lesser of the demons for me. At&t is absolutely terrible I paid to get away from their horrible business model. Sure they don't update but their customer service and stability has never been matched.
The security vulnerability is common for any wifi device. The key is to not connect to insecure wifi networks.
Also the only the latest version of gb got the security update, not any and all versions of gb.
Seriously, froyo wasn't enough? Now we're crying about samsung leaked gb? It'll come in time. We already have two separate versions of CM7.

Well, yes, AT&T also sucks. Verizon has "The Network" (except when LTE crashes and 3G databases get corrupted -- fail!). AT&T has the iPhone. That's seriously all either one cares about or understands.
However, AT&T has the fortune of using hardware compatible with international unlocked models. "The Network" is, besides Verizon's main selling point, also another big way of locking us into their crappy inattention and bloat. I hate it, and I hate even more that AT&T will gobble up the most Android-sympathetic carrier and force us into bloated high-priced no-update duopoly.
I've never tried Sprint either, but it's ever more tempting.

As someone who had tried all of the major 4, as well as someone who travels all over this country and canada. I have found verizon has the biggest and most stable network. Now, in full disclosure, my service when I am home 2 days a month sucks. But for someone who "needs" a nationwide network verizon is imho, the best.

As long as there is a will there is a way. MITM are not as hard as you make it seem. I could easily come over to your wifi and make way with all your bank accounts. Wifi, bluetooth and even any GSM network are susceptible to getting attacked.
Yeah this leak is really stable guys; netfix works perfect also, and this isn't even the latest build!
