I am a relativity new user of this phone, I've had no problems with set up, it works perfectly and I understand every feature of the phone.

How can I set my phone to notify me (vibrate or tone) when I receive hotmail or an IM with Pocket MSN?

u cant u have to be online to get your mail

technically, you could ping your hotmail account and display a notifier if you've got a new mail. But as musiccube says, you'd have to be online.

- syncing with osx, calendar, addressbook and iTunes
- turning off the blinking green light
- stopping my wife playing bubblebraker all the time
- norwegian rom does not contain textrecognition allowing me to write on the screen.
- Card export from softick.com does not work yet on wm5

I Have a big problem with my storage card.When I put it into my wizard, when the screen shut down, it reboot.My card was working on a C500, I don't know what to do.Thx for your help

Frequently, almost daily my phone will say that it has a cellular signal (cingular) but I am unable to make or receive a call. I must soft reset to use the phone. Any reason why this is happening? Is there a fix?

Missing miniSD
I have a dopod 838 [aka WIZA 100]. I was fiddling with my device today and I noticed in Resco Explorer that my miniSD card was missing [I checked the slot and it was inserted] I look at it thru Explorer via Activesync and the miniSD was not there also. I did a soft reset and it came back. Has anyone else experienced a problem like this? I have a 1GB miniSD from SanDisk.

some contacts don't sync
I can't Activesync some contacts with Outlook. The problem seems to be only related to contacts with a note in Outlook. Removing the note doesn't help, I have to manually copy all the details without the note, then the new contact is synchronized.

When I connect the Wizard to my XP SP2 machine, AcitveSync starts with connecting, but somehow it keeps saying: "connecting" but it just won't become 'connected'?

I am also experiencing this from time to time, and this is what I do when it is happening.
Disconnect sync cable. Close all running apps on the pda. (I use an app called InClose) Connect sync cable again and I am connected.
Hope that this works for you too!

as far as i know there is no Answering system works with wm2003
so i think the problem regarding the answering machine has been solved in WM5 but there is no individual application to enable answering system on other wm5 phone edition PPC's like Prophet, is there any answering program like the one used in i-teq?
please introduce it if you any.

lover - this is a specific software and hardware solution provided by Gigabyte. It's not a generic WM5 solution.
Have a read around the board on why that might be the case.

so i think this is a software which is in ROM and there is no hardware added, ithink so.
it would be great if some one get that software from the original ROM.

lover: I'm inclined to disagree. I've tried the app on the Magician, Universal and Mio A701. No joy.
The attached, ripped from the ROM, may require other associated files, but I've tried the whole ROM in its complete form. It appears to be non English, so I may be reading it wrong, but let me know if you have any luck.

it didnt work on my JAMin., does any one knows which company is the developer of this software?

Maybe I'm missing something here, but can someone enlighten me as to why you would want an answering machine on your phone when your mobile phone carrier already supplies you with that service? Just want to make sure I'm not missing out on any features here.

i dun think its just a software api that does this answering machine..
most likely to be a hardware inside the phone that is not present in other phones.

It is just a software!
There is a rom (2.03 Beta TofClock Himalaya) and it has this answering machine...

bepe: I think that's specific to the Himalaya. Because of the way the modem works on PocketPC phones, not all (in fact, it seems, very few) have the audio path accessible by the device itself for two way recording.

To pay $ 18.95 for an app that you can do for FREE? I've reported about a long ago (it's REALLY worth following my blog ) - I'd certainly prefer it to this one.

Just my two cents...
I don't think the software won't work on any device other than g-Smart range, it's to do with the hardware of the phone, not WM5. Without this hardware I believe it is impossible to record both sides of the conversation without some massive application, which will probably (a) slow the ppc right down, as will need to be integrated into the OS, and (b) not be that cheap either.

SkyFire Beta Finally Out!!!

Hey Guys,
I has been a long damn wait, but I finally got the long awaited Skyfire first release. I will share the cab here. However, I do believe that you need an account to use it (kinda like M$ did with their new browser)
However, there are a few things about this new Browser:
1. Since this is the first release, it is relatively slow (not in the loading of the page, but in the scrolling, zooming, and anything using flash (youtube, flash games, etc).
2. I am not sure if it has anything to do with the browser itself, but I installed it, I run the browser for a few minutes with a wifi connection, and the next thing I know, my Blue Angel is about to shut down due to having almost no battery (8% left). Did I mention that I had roughly 75% battery 15 minutes earlier? On an extended Battery?!?!?! (~2400 mAh)
I knew that flash apps have the tendency to run your battery dry but... damn!
Like I said, I posted it because I just felt that it was the right thing to do, to share this with my fellow xda-users
Other than that, this looks rather promising. I will update as I receive any new updates from these people.

Sorry, this is no help for the majority of the users. Will give an error message about System authorization. Thank you for the effort. I personally hope to get my code soon

Actually, it did take about 20 sec to boot on my BA. I guess that I oversaw that little detail

Just found this....
I've taken a look at SkyFire & it doesn't look good. It's not possible to force authorization as it depends on a secret PGP keypair shared between the activation server & the device. A meet in the middle attack would be our next best bet but this is not guaranteed as they're using SSL to encrypt the packets flowing between.
Even if the app were cracked to force successful authorization on the client side it would just freeze & wait for a non-existent response from the authorization server. A crucial part of the activation would be that it compares the IP of the client to determine their geographical location & any place outside the US results in an "Invalid authorization" response.
Another possibility is to access the server through a tunnelling exploit but this highly depends on the configuration of the server itself. I doubt that they'd leave this channel open.

Sending pictures via bluetooth

Hi eveyone, I just got my HTC Magic a couple of days ago and have been finding my feet with it since.
So far so good only I have an issue with sending pitures to another phone via bluetooth.
All past phones I have had for as long as I can remember this has been a fairly straight forward process but I'm getting nowhere with my magic.
I can pair with other phones but it says "paired but not connected". When I select the connect option nothing happens? And if I select the photo and select Menu -> Share bluetooth just isn't an option?
Anyone point my in the right direction please?

Android does not support any bluetooth services other then "hands free".
This means that you can only use BT headsets.
Android (either G1 or Magic) phones cannot natively send files over BT, cannot use BT a modem, etc...
There is not third party tool so far to send files via BT to other devices.

Wow , no big deal I guess, I'm just tight so used to send pictures via BT rather than MMS. Perhaps one of you clever "app maker people" will see the hole in the market.

Since you have the entire internet in your hand, I can't really see this being an important feature I'd much rather just publish the photo on Facebook, mail it or something (and if the other device is primitive and the picture necessarily has to be transferred, use MMS^^).

Isn't Google gonna release an update for the HTC magic U.K to have this feature???

It's not just about pictures, two days before I got my Magic I was on a business trip in Portugal, we had a long boring flight home so a colleague asked me to download his favourite Podcast via the hotel WiFi and Bluetooth it over to his phone for the flight (his roaming charges would have cost a fortune). I did that fine with my phone at the time but couldn't do it now with the Magic.
I have also used my phone as a sort of USB storage device, quickly putting files on it from my laptop and walking to another laptop on a separate (and non-connected) network. BT is easier than faffing with USB ports or wires
Just my 0.02 GBP

There's now an app for it in the Market called Bluetooth Fileshare Bluex for €1.40

When i search for the Bluex app in the market i cant find it! I also tried scanning the barcode link in Cyrex but then the market just says not found! Where do i get this app? I need it badly!

I found it under Bluetooth Fileshare Bluex. I bought it this morning so it is there. Try searching for 'bluetooth' and check though the list that comes back - there's not that many.
This app works a treat the only thing missing is Bluetooth from a PC to the phone. Phone to phone and phone to PC work just as hoped for. Developers site here Worth a few rating stars in the market.

Does anyone know if this app could be developed for non-rooted phones?

I'm also in denmark. I need this app, a phone withouth bluetooth fileshare is so... iphone ie, ridiculus.

This omission is probably due to Google being a US based company and I have never even heard of anyone in this country transferring a file over bluetooth. It's either a nonexistent feature on our phones or just one of those things that nobody takes advantage of. In the US, bluetooth is synonymous with hands-free headsets and little else. If you ask ten people you might find one who has heard of A2DP, but that's about as complex as bluetooth gets around here.
Most people use the word bluetooth as a noun to describe hands-free headsets. "I'm driving so I'm calling you with my bluetooth!"

What an odd world we live in Transferring files via bluetooth is almost an everyday occurrence here and a modern phone without this function is extremely rare. Just glad it's on the mend.

[Q] rom with working hdmi weptop

been flashing alot of roms and webtop mods. currently on alien #3 waiting new aura rom. but has anyone had/has plans on a at&t rom that has working webtop via hdmi cable built into it without the need for flashing extra mods and such but having it all there and ready to go? (flash rom,reboot,plug in hdmi cable,POW!!!!!!WEBTOP!!!!!) seems a good idea im new to modding and such so i haven't looked into it much, but maybe this is a start for me and all mods/devs if it hasnt been looked upon before. hope this starts something good and new , yet to see a webtop rom. lets get cookin!!!!! thanks....

any updates/roms i find with this built in i will (try) to post links to it, as i do not have alot of time to be on here i work 4am till sometimes 12am (mandatory overtimes a bich) so if you find it before me please post a link here and a thinks will be givin as well as a donation ( donation only provided to posters to roms with working versions built in sorry,and an automatic donation to the roms dev. thanks will be givin to anyone that post a link to this idea or a solution to the idea (a rom with it) now and alway thank you....

I am on build 3 with theme.
Have you frozen anything? Or did you flash and then try the Webtop right away?

huh weird it doesnt work for me i have wetop v1 installed too.

I didnt freeze anything. i did a wipe coming from aura 1.1.1 then flashed alian #3

Only Webtop and Entertainment Center is working. I am working on getting my HDMI Mirroring going at the moment. Sorry, Music is working also for me.

Here is a shot I just took from my flatscreen in the living room. Ignore picture quality. I used the Atrix camera, (hence the infinite displays from the phone display), and this wasn't the best scenario for a good picture:

Will this work on a laptip? thats the only thing i got with a hdmi plug in, and nothing pops up on the phone or laptop when pluged in. maybe ill reflash.

nope, gonna try it now an see what happens. ill post if it works.

Not many laptops that I know of support using the built in panel as a display for device input. The HDMI port on your laptop is used to send an image out, not receive.

yeah im not getting anything to happen. my laptops an hp g72 if that helps any

so i cant anything to help me out. trying to find out how to make my laptop act as the external display but no help from searching im sure its possible though. well if anything it maybe time to go buy a monitor/tv with an hdmi hook up. thanks for your help on this and pointing out why my webtop isnt working when i plug it into my computer.
