Hi eveyone, I just got my HTC Magic a couple of days ago and have been finding my feet with it since.
So far so good only I have an issue with sending pitures to another phone via bluetooth.
All past phones I have had for as long as I can remember this has been a fairly straight forward process but I'm getting nowhere with my magic.
I can pair with other phones but it says "paired but not connected". When I select the connect option nothing happens? And if I select the photo and select Menu -> Share bluetooth just isn't an option?
Anyone point my in the right direction please?

Android does not support any bluetooth services other then "hands free".
This means that you can only use BT headsets.
Android (either G1 or Magic) phones cannot natively send files over BT, cannot use BT a modem, etc...
There is not third party tool so far to send files via BT to other devices.
Thanks for the quick reply.
Wow , no big deal I guess, I'm just tight so used to send pictures via BT rather than MMS. Perhaps one of you clever "app maker people" will see the hole in the market.
I'm missing this functionality too
Since you have the entire internet in your hand, I can't really see this being an important feature I'd much rather just publish the photo on Facebook, mail it or something (and if the other device is primitive and the picture necessarily has to be transferred, use MMS^^).
Isn't Google gonna release an update for the HTC magic U.K to have this feature???

It's not just about pictures, two days before I got my Magic I was on a business trip in Portugal, we had a long boring flight home so a colleague asked me to download his favourite Podcast via the hotel WiFi and Bluetooth it over to his phone for the flight (his roaming charges would have cost a fortune). I did that fine with my phone at the time but couldn't do it now with the Magic.
I have also used my phone as a sort of USB storage device, quickly putting files on it from my laptop and walking to another laptop on a separate (and non-connected) network. BT is easier than faffing with USB ports or wires

I found it under Bluetooth Fileshare Bluex. I bought it this morning so it is there. Try searching for 'bluetooth' and check though the list that comes back - there's not that many.
This app works a treat the only thing missing is Bluetooth from a PC to the phone. Phone to phone and phone to PC work just as hoped for. Developers site here Worth a few rating stars in the market.
Does anyone know if this app could be developed for non-rooted phones?

I'm also in denmark. I need this app, a phone withouth bluetooth fileshare is so... iphone ie, ridiculus.
This omission is probably due to Google being a US based company and I have never even heard of anyone in this country transferring a file over bluetooth. It's either a nonexistent feature on our phones or just one of those things that nobody takes advantage of. In the US, bluetooth is synonymous with hands-free headsets and little else. If you ask ten people you might find one who has heard of A2DP, but that's about as complex as bluetooth gets around here.
Most people use the word bluetooth as a noun to describe hands-free headsets. "I'm driving so I'm calling you with my bluetooth!"

What an odd world we live in Transferring files via bluetooth is almost an everyday occurrence here and a modern phone without this function is extremely rare. Just glad it's on the mend.

How can I set my phone to notify me (vibrate or tone) when I receive hotmail or an IM with Pocket MSN?
u cant u have to be online to get your mail
technically, you could ping your hotmail account and display a notifier if you've got a new mail. But as musiccube says, you'd have to be online.

as far as i know there is no Answering system works with wm2003
so i think the problem regarding the answering machine has been solved in WM5 but there is no individual application to enable answering system on other wm5 phone edition PPC's like Prophet, is there any answering program like the one used in i-teq?
please introduce it if you any.
here is screen shot of i-teq bond
lover - this is a specific software and hardware solution provided by Gigabyte. It's not a generic WM5 solution.
Have a read around the board on why that might be the case.

so i think this is a software which is in ROM and there is no hardware added, ithink so.
it would be great if some one get that software from the original ROM.
thanks for sharing
lover: I'm inclined to disagree. I've tried the app on the Magician, Universal and Mio A701. No joy.
The attached, ripped from the ROM, may require other associated files, but I've tried the whole ROM in its complete form. It appears to be non English, so I may be reading it wrong, but let me know if you have any luck.

than you very much but
it didnt work on my JAMin., does any one knows which company is the developer of this software?
Maybe I'm missing something here, but can someone enlighten me as to why you would want an answering machine on your phone when your mobile phone carrier already supplies you with that service? Just want to make sure I'm not missing out on any features here.
i dun think its just a software api that does this answering machine..
most likely to be a hardware inside the phone that is not present in other phones.
It is just a software!
There is a rom (2.03 Beta TofClock Himalaya) and it has this answering machine...
bepe: I think that's specific to the Himalaya. Because of the way the modem works on PocketPC phones, not all (in fact, it seems, very few) have the audio path accessible by the device itself for two way recording.
Have a read through here. If you've had any sucess, please post:

Just my two cents...
I don't think the software won't work on any device other than g-Smart range, it's to do with the hardware of the phone, not WM5. Without this hardware I believe it is impossible to record both sides of the conversation without some massive application, which will probably (a) slow the ppc right down, as will need to be integrated into the OS, and (b) not be that cheap either.
Regards.
just a quick qn.. if i want to try on my hermes, how to i 'install' it?
do i need to tweak any registry settings?
thanks
that would be a great app i think!! i'm on pay as you go and orange charge 10p per min to retieve voicemail!! would be super if the phone itself took over and saved an mp3 or something to the memory card!!! no charges!!

StarPlayr for Windows Mobile is a professional-class sophisticated and reliable player for Sirius XM radio (hundreds of radio channels with various content, including talk radio and music)

powered by StreamSmart technology
users can log in both with Sirius and XM credentials (user name and password for listening online)
lyrics (for some music channels - for example for Sirius Love channel)
favorites
support for credentials from USA and Canada
standard quality and CD quality of streams both supported

Download & Video from : 1800pocketpc.com
Very nice. One small suggestion- took a few tries to figure out that I had to check the "Guest" box on the Sirius setup in order to get it to save my XM page login settings. Maybe a small instructions pop up would help, or else a save button on the XM page.
Otherwise, works and sounds great.
When I installed it on my mogul, which has the latest rom update, it said that the "application requires a newer version of the Microsoft .Net Compact Framework than the version installed on this device". Why is it telling me that and how can I check to see if I got the latest .net installed?
I installed it an put my xm password into the sirius box before I discovered that there was an xm settings box. After I was able to login, I kept getting errors whenever I tried to open certain channels. Deleting the sirrius.sav and xm.xml and restarting the app fixed the issues.
its not working for me etiher and i have 3.5 framework installed
All I can say is that it installed for me the first time, on a XV6800 (Titan) with nueROM 206 installed, which includes CF 3.5
Well, I have the latest rom on my device too and it should have the latest .net cf installed on it. How do I look on my phone to see if it's there and where do I go to download it?

I'm guessing, but I think the impression of leaked came about because if you actually goto the StarPlayr website, it says WinMobile version is coming soon.
Again, I'm just guessing. When this thread first started, that ws the first thing I did was visit the StarPlayr website to see the status. Since it still said coming soon I figured maybe it was leaked.
Great Application... love it!
I'm bumping this thread cause I need the app on here. And that, I'm trying to upload and install this .net cf file so that I can use this app but I'm having problems with it. Am I suppose to do something before I upload it to my phone or after I upload to my phone and before I install it? It's just not working for me.

run attachment and all sounds will be in ear speaker. Solution for me to talk via Skype.
It's brill on the HD2. Miles better than what I remember on the iPhone. You can actually keep it running in the background
and it works with the bluetooth headset.

Does this actually work for the HD2 or perhaps even other phones like the Diamond 2?

I tested it with Diamond 2, Touch Pro 2, HD 2 - it works. Just run it and while programm runs in background - all sounds via earspeaker. But don't forget close it after all or you miss callring

You run it... the leave it open and open Skype. All audio is then routed through the earpiece. You speak like you would on a normal phone.
Running skype alone without this would mean needing to use BT headphones or the headset or sound comes from the loudspeaker... THis app is extremely useful if you use Skype!!
i have the same problem on HD2, this sounds like a solution, i will try it. thanks for the file. otherwise i might just use the headset came with it.
chimpsinties,
Is this your GPRS Monitor capable of showing GSM RF related parameters like Field Test? Where did you download it? Is it capable of Monitoring UMTS too?
and a few more things with Skype:
#1
I have S2S lock and I like it as many times I forget to lock my phone, but it kicks during a Skype call and kills audio... dont want to disable S2S, nor want to put my phone on charger.
There is a option in Skype's Menu/Setting, namely "Prevent device stand-by mode when online". Changing this parameter does not seem to make any difference...
#2
How can I get Skype to remember my password? However I dont want Skype to start up automatically
#3
auto change between landscape and portrait modes based on G-sensor is possible somehow?
thanks!

The GPRS traffic monitor has the following options that are not configurable. You can select between what's there but you can't add more yourself. I guess it auto detects what's available cos when I had the TMobile shim in it knew to look for that connection instead. This is just a trial version but does what I need it so I've not looked into what the pro version gets you.

You just select the connections you want to monitor and what your limit is, when your billing date is.
Then it lets you know how much you've used that day/month/total etc
You could look into it more at http://www.efficasoft.com
Thank so much for the file,, it worked very well with my HD2
Does anyone know if there is an app to use the Iconia's USB port to connect to the console port of a Cisco switch? I got connect bot, but it's more using something already connected. I'm looking for something to console to configure a fresh switch or troubleshoot a downed switch. Unless the hostname is "localhost" which i have not tried yet. I did not see anything out there about this, more just "i'm working on something". Any one here have any ideas?
Thanks.
Have u tried searching for a hyperterminal in the market. ive got a usb to serial for a rollover cable. Ill try it on my router tomorrow just to see what happens. Curious now lol.
Just found slick2usb in the market after searching for hyperterminal. It may be what u need

Thanks i will look at that tomorrow when i get home, as of yet i can't get my iphone to tether data correctly (next issue at hand). I will let you know the results and please let me know what you find out.
Good news....it works, mostly........a little buggy but I don't think this is the apps intended use. Plus I think my router is in rommon and I don't feel like fixing it lol Gonna send them an email to see if they'll implement full support for Cisco devices

@hatefuel19: I finally got the app installed. Once i rebooted the switch i could see the boot log but i could not send anything to the switch and see a response. Did you ever hear back from any correspondence with the developer?
@fincan: trying to do this without rooting.
I had the same issue and no nothing from them yet........have you tried it with a usb keyboard?

No i have not, however i just talked to the people who work at Network Operations regarding Cisco input format. Slick USB is sending the data in ASCII format, and they have hyper terminal setup for ANSI and i'm inclined to think that this underlining issue is ASCII versus ANSI input, for lack of a better word, configuration. So now my next question is two fold, should i try to email o support people as well and do you or anyone know of any other app that we could possible use to achieve said connection? (yes i am using baud 9600, data: 8 bit, Parity: none, and Stop: 1 bit before anyone asks).
Thanks
**I went ahead and sent a message to the guy anyways to see if i could get a response**

Have you tried if the sending works at all with a null-modem cable to a laptop running hyperterminal or just shortening the TX and RX pins on the RS232 to get an echo response?

I have not done any other troubleshooting at this point, thats not a bad idea. I am not sure i have the correct cables to do this tho, i'll have to look in the old cables section of the office. I'll let you know what i find out.

That makes sense.....let me know.....I told a friend of mine who was about to get aj I pad about this and he walked out of best buy with the a500 instead (also works with Cisco routers on a daily basis

I just got a response from the Slick 2 USB team.
"Hi David,
Sorry for the late reply. I have had many requests for your exact same situation. The general consensus is that the blocking point is that you're unable to send a carriage return currently through the app. I'm in the process of rolling a separate app with more functionality that should address this. I'll send you a copy to test when its ready.
Thanks,
SlickDev Labs"
So as soon as i find something out i will let you guys know.
Good news everyone. I have been working with the developer and we have a working product that connects, logs in, reads and configures switches. I think there are a few more tweaks that need to be done but for the most part it is working. I am not sure when it will be released but i will post info when it is. I'm very excited about this
Good news everyone.
Were you able to get something that works? I have an Asus I would like to use in similar fashion.
Thanks!
