Lost in the selection of ROMs. - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I bought HD2 mainly because i can flash Android and get nice piece of hardware for little money.
But i checked NAND ROMs section and DAMN! so many roms. I Dont know what to chose and there is no comparision.
My main goal is to get best: System/ 3D Performance + As much free RAM as i can get + IT MUST BE CLEAN ROM WITHOUT ANY SENSE AND OTHER stuff.
But im asking you for advice, what ROM are you using...how amny benchmark score, free RAM you can gat..
Thanks in Advance.

Using Typhoon CM7 + GO Launcher is very smooth. I get around 1500 in Quadrant Standard benchmark and generally 200 or more MB of available RAM.

I'm Overclocked at 1.2GHz and have no problems.

Is Typhoon ROM faster than Hyperdroid one ?

I like HyperDroid. But It's still my first ROM, as it is my second day I have my HD2.
Your motive to buy a HD2 is exactly the same for me.
I'll try the Typhoon ROM, but first I'll tag along with Hyperdroid for the moment.
I need a way to figure out how to switch ROMs, but keeping all the apps and WhatsApp messages...

I haven't used Hyperdroid before. In fact, this is the only NAND ROM I've ever used, but it has given me a good experience from the beginning. Having used SD Android for ages, this was much more responsive and generally faster.

Hyperdroid is the best non-sense/miui rom out there for me.
Very fast, no lag - free memory and reliable performance

If you are using Multipicture Live Wallpaper (+ its transition effects) GO Launcher isnt that smooth. Its way too overloaeded. ADW is in combination with that Live Wallpaper the better solution. ADW Ex simply runs faster and have more then enough settings. GO Launchers zoom animation in appdrawer isnt smooth too.
Go launcher has everything but that doesnt makes it better.
Im using hyperdroid cm7 rom. *Actually* the best rom for me.

I don't use live wallpapers and I've honestly found ADW to be the slowest launcher out there. GO Launcher is for me the most consistent. Launcher Pro is the fastest and copes best with widgets, but force closes on me every time I update an app from the market . If you are have a widget-heavy homescreen, Launcher Pro or GO Launcher are by far your best options. Judging by this post, however, if you have a live wallpaper ADW is better.

I'm running Typhoon CM7 + Go Launcher without Live Wallpaper and have no issues with it. I like the GO Launcher better but ADW was running also just fine but I think this is matter of personal taste.
I've tried Hyperdroid, Coredroid, Energy, Bluedroid, Nexus but I'm sticking to Typhoon CM7 for now. Coredroid HD GB with Sense looks awesome but for me it was laggy and slow.
If I were you, I'd just try one by one to see what suits me best

So i decided to try Hyperdroid 5.3.0 + Kefir.net Kernel (In terms of overclocking)
i will see..thanks for your respones guys

Be sure not to keep the CPU overclocked at 1.5GHz all the time, use different profiles and probably use 'Smartass' governor so that you don't end up with a destroyed CPU.

Oh you will love the Multipicture LW. First LW im going to keep. Feels like nokia and ICS in one. Especially the transition of it in combination with the effects of the launcher. Adw runs smooth, go launcher have its problems, but quiet good.
Good choice at TS. Hf

Personally been using dorimanx for a while now and haven't really had any problems with it, I've tried quite a few roms both on nand and SD and this one is nice and stable and is updated quite frequently, defanitly suggest going for the high end set up almost always have 156MB of ram used and doesn't go up all to often

+1 for Hyperdroid. Fast and is very stable for a daily use.

you think it's bad here mate you should see the SGSII forums serious amount of ROM's there.
Sorry for butting in former HD2 owner here who used to always be on these forums, upgraded to the SGSII a few months ago still have a soft spot for the HD2 even if it's been well eclipsed by now but still a great phone.

Fastest Rom For The G1?

Ive been running Cannon202 rom its pretty quick but ive seen faster..
What's the fastest and most stable rom out right now?
Its a matter of a opinion i know
SuperBad is faster, but i like Cannon's better.
Naa use chromatic 3.5 its super fast and really stable it even comes with set cpu so u can over clock u should try it its really good
If you want to go fast then sadly you might just have to downgrade to donut and go with SuperD. There is a speed loss on eclair as compared to donut, but I like eclair so much more...
another great donut rom is superfast v1.3.3 fastest rom I've ever used

Chromatic 3.6 is blazing fast!
Thanks for the recommendation!
CyanogenMOD 5.0.8 is pretty quick.

Cyanogen 5.0.8 is actually very stable but very slow. atleast to me it is.
Ive tried SuperE, Cyanogen, CaNNoN202, SpeedTeam and Chromatic Eclair roms. And so far Chromatic seems alot faster than all those roms.
SpeedTeam's and CaNNoN202's roms are decently quick and stable.
But SuperE had to be the biggest disappointment.
I've been using cyanogen and didn't think it was worth it to try something else, since most things are just built on it. I'm about to try Chromatic though.

Yeah I highly suggest it!
Tell me what you think.
I like it, its colors go way better with the way I have my widgets and stuff setup.
I don't like the lack of apps menu button on the launcher though, and would prefer normal icons instead of the white shapes.
Also it seems like every single thing installed on the phone is running when it starts up.

Yeah I don't care for the Apps menu button too, it doesn't bother me too much though. You should try LauncherPro its just as good.
Yeah as for the apps running in the background I highly suggest downloading Advanced Task Killer and turning on Auto-Kill. It saves a grip load of battery life.
I'm using Cyanogenmod-5 For Dream/Magic - Mean Lean Pastry Machine - V5.0.8 (06/19/2010)on my G1 and it's fast.....
To get the nexus squares back on the launcher on chromatic, install the latest system version of the ADW launcher (0.90) by pershoot. You do loose the cool symbol on the search bar and the highlight on the squares is back to orange, but everything else is the same. .86 is installed by default.
Edit: the link: http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/?p=680
jubeh's AOSP 2.2 is pretty fast. no OC and no swap needed. camera and gps aren't important to me so i will be using this as a daily driver.
The last couple of days, ive been trying to decide for myself on this exact topic. I suggest SpeedTeam for Eclair (its super fast and battery efficient; almost a full 2 days with light/medium use wwith close to 17% left on charge).
Jriv is right though. if you want fast, downgrade to superfast 1.3.3. Its rediculous how fast it is. by far the fastest ive used.
I think that Chromatic 3.7 is the best and the fastest software for G1 by now. Also there is no errors in it, lots of theming and CM goodies + gapps + preinstalled apps like EStrongs File Explorer.
Are we talking about 2.1 ROMs here? Or any ROM? Because I have yet to find a 2.1 ROM with the speed of a 1.6 ROM.

I have been running SuperD 1.9.3 for a week after using SuperE for a month. I honestly notice absolutely no difference in speeds averaged over time. Some tasks that are slow in Donut (web browsing) are faster in Eclair (task switching) and vice versa. I don't generally play any games or do any CPU intensive stuff, so I can't comment there, but for basic, everyday tasks, they both seem to perform about the same.
Battery life is the only thing that keeps me from using Eclair full time.

What is the best ROm

Hey folks, what is the best ROM you have ever tried for Wildfire, and why?
CM7, very stable and because it's gingerbread. Also frequently updated and in my language (dutch)
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
CM7: rich in features, allows overclocking, activity in bugfixing and many more great features and community.
CM7.1 Nightlies all the way! They are stable and fast, especially after#149.

Really Depends if you want sense etc etc theres plenty of good roms.
Well CM7 runs quite slow after a day or even less, even if you overclock...it's because Gingerbread is quite demanding on this little fellow.
You could try Cm7 Nightly 151 and Rempuzzle (sense froyo with widgets+WIL script+cm7 kernel for OC) and see there is a big difference.
Personally, I liked CM7 a lot, and still do, since i've used it for half an year or so, but a stock android just can't bring what I need, nor market apps, but htc sense does.
I hope I helped. Good luck with your choice.

I do agree that CM7 is much better .......but there are some flows in it...
Like……… dialing pad is not much attractive, pathetic Radio app, SENSE is not much attractive .......etc.................that my point of view
thanks guys for you advice, I have tried CM7 but it was a little bit laggy, also I tried Wildbuzzle, but now I'm using original ROM I think it's more stable than the other ROMs.

Tweaks for Sense3 roms (make it faster and smoother)

Hey there got some questions for experienced Users.
Are there any useful apps, kernels or other tweaks out there for the hd2 WITH SENSE3 to make it smoother and faster?
And should i use autokiller or something like that? Is setcpu usefull or only crap?
Which launcher should i use and so on.
I will stay @ Sense 3 for those who say other Roms
Would be thankful for every advice.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
for sense 3+ roms supercharger makes difference in terms of free ram and less battery drain for me. (i tried it with energy dhd and bluedroid runnymede, it provides at least 20MB extra free ram.)
i tried swap partition with those roms but since my sd is class2 system lagged sometimes although my free ram raised.
using overclocking improves speed but i think it causes more battery consumption.
Can anyone recommend a sense rom for euro HD2 for daily use?

most scripts are written in init.d out of the box from our amazing devs. set cpu works, but you can see significant battery drain if you are overclocking at the maximum value. Sense launcher by default works best with the rom and is big part of sense 3.0 (if you want launcher pro just use a gingerbread rom without sense). Do not use auto killer but a task manager is useful to ease battery drain from apps running in background. But like i said before, many devs cook in tweaks that manage such memory aspects. Finally, you can try the v6 supercharger script which can speed up the rom considerably.
I guess the main idea is that the ROM's available on the threads are pretty much optimized for the maximum performance of base that they are on so I suggest simply using the ROM out of the box
Android 2.2.1 Sense 2.0 NAND Firmware (based on stock Desire HD RUU Ace 1.84)
from Mikhei777 is my best for daily usage
Still using CMYLXGOs Stock Desire HD[RUU1.84][RAF 1.9OC] after that may not be continuous but fast ,stable, and great battery for daily usage

[Q] Fastest ROM for games

Hello.
I tried lots of ROMs and finally decided to ask about your opinion. So currently I am using Desire_DL ROM because i wanted something with sense. But since i changed to WP7 i don't care about sense anymore. I tried arround 10 ROMs with Sense and now I don't want to do the same for non-sense ROMs that's why I am asking here. So as i said I need this ROM to be fast for playing 3D games witout lags. It would be good if the ROM was Gingerbread too but if some Froyo is fastest then I will take it.
So what do you guys recommend?
Sincerely
Okeyus

I use CM7 Roms For Performance... Italien a beautifull and lightning fast ROM.

Personally I'd recommend the TyphooN CM7 ROM. Rock solid, fast and really light. From boot it leaves >287Mb RAM free, bare minimum of processes/services running which should be great if you turn off background data/syncing, wifi, phone, gps, bluetooth etc (if they're not needed, otherwise they can zap quite a few CPU cycles as well as draining the battery).
YMMV
I Like MXZ MIUI
Pretty much any non-sense, gingerbread ROM's are stable and run heavy games just fine. For the maximum performance I would suggest an aosp gingerbread ROM-no CM7
TyphooN CM7 ROM Asphalt 6 no lugs
dorimanx is best for me...
I`m using CM7 for perfomance
It is fast and smooth
Hmm..

[Q] Why are the stock-based ROMs graphically smoother than CM7.2 on Defy+?

There's a constant struggle in my mind. I have tried several CM7 builds, but all of it had problems with the GUI smoothness. I just could not reach that iPhone-like smooth operation like the stock ROM or MS2Ginger, not even with V6 SuperCharger and Nitro Lag Nullifier. Various scrolling cache settings and build.prop tweaks also did not help like playing with debug.performance.tuning, video.accelerate.hw, debug.sf.hw. But MS2Ginger has several problems CM don't: SD card corruption (can't be fixed with mmcfix, tried), random FCs. So I just can't decide which is better for me: choppy GUI with no SD problems or ultrasmooth GUI with rage sometimes. It would be good to combine smoothness with SD card fix.
I'm not quite familiar with Android development yet, but I would like to know what modules/drivers/binaries etc. are responsible for this GUI smoothness/choppyness, and is there a way to port these things from stock ROM into CM.
Are you using ADWLauncher (which is the stock one in cm7)?
Try to use another launcher such as launcherpro, go launcher or adw launcher ex (not free).
I don't know why, but adw is very choppy indeed... it works well on lg p350 (cheap android device) of a friend of mine though.

How do you do actual development inside a forum post? That doesn't even seem possible.
But anyways yeah, I installed CM7 a few days ago and had the exact same issue as the OP—replacing ADWLauncher with Launcher Pro solved it.

Launcher Pro is choppy too. My first task after installing CM is always to replace ADW with Launcher Pro, but LP is still smoother on stock/MS2Ginger than on CM7.
So any tips? It's not a launcher problem, but an overall system symptom. Anyone experienced it?

Do you have Defy+? What is your kernel version? What is your base SBF? What values are set in bootmenu/overclock?
Lots of performance and specially battery tweaks done in CM ROMs at the cost of better graphics. That's the case with every other brand mobile too. They all look graphically smoother on stock but a bit dull on CM.
It's hard to quantify "choppy" and "smooth," and different people will have different interpretations of the terms. Maybe a comparison video would clear things up.
Can some choppyness come from deodexing a rom? I read somewhere that odexed roms (like stock ones) are faster, but I can't remember in which way faster... maybe just booting up faster?!

How reputable is this poster? FWIR, deodexing only affects boot times, and only after a Dalvik cache wipe—there shouldn't be any performance impact besides that.
in my case, i have a defy+ with adw ex, old v6 (update8) is very smooth. launcherpro is too. stock launcher is sucks, so i dont use it. but other launchers works fine for me.
