Hello, I did this:
YouTube:
/watch?v=Euafsq5KkCU
Within the xRecovery menu, I did:
- A backup of existing OS
- Wipe of all user data
- Flash GingerDX 2.3.7.
- Reboot
It worked! For the first time, there was root access. Later on, when the system was still up, Titanium Backup didn't recognize root status, although I have granted it earlier.
So I tried to reboot and then I was stuck in a boot-loop. Rien ne va plus.
It feels like that SuperOneClick gives root only temporarily. Later on I find it out that can depend on the Baseband:
"If you are stuck in a boot loop it's because you have got an old baseband xxx006"
(androidforums.com/x8-all-things-root/391956-rom-v017-upgrade-gingerdx-2-3-doixanh.html)
So I used the linked Baseband flash tool (X10flasher.jar), it did his job, and then there appeared "Reboot, set up Debug mode etc."
But how I should do that? Turn on and pressing the back button momentarily doesn't work as well (like there was no root / xRecovery installed). I cannot do anything!
Is there a tool and command like "runindos.bat" that was also for the HTC Hero? Some time ago, this helped me with my HTC Hero because I could enter Recovery menu, but now I'm having a X8 to do that procedure.
I think your best solution would be to restore Stock 2.1 through PCC (PC Companion) or SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service).
Once you're back on the stock ROM verify you're running on baseband 015 (Menu Key in the Home Screen -> Settings -> About Phone - in German: Menü Taste im Home Screen -> Einstellungen -> Über das Telefon)
You're looking for "Baseband Version" ... the LAST three digits are supposed to read 015. If they DO read 015 you're running on the required baseband, if they are reading 006 you need to update.
EDIT: If everything's working again: root your phone, install ClockWorkMod Recovery, copy the ZIP of GingerDX onto your SD card, reboot into CWM, flash GDX v017, Full Wipe, reboot.

During the CWM installation within the app I have to choose a device. There's everything except of Sony Ericsson devices...
You must install CWM manually, not through Rom Manager. Search in Android Development for some info.

Yap, you can't install CWM through ROM Manager on the X8 ...
Either use X8 Toolbox or search the forums for "Dual Recovery Mini Pro" (if memory serves me right); should work on the X8 as well. Edit: ClockworkMod Recovery 3.2.0.0 ported by nobodyAtall <-- That's what I had in mind
Thinking about your initial post for a moment ...
Any chance you caused the boot-looping by flashing GDX v017 through xRecovery (wrong way!) instead of through CWM (right way!)?

firstly, have u rooted and already had xrecovery installed?
I've 2.0.1 so i think I've to upgrade to 2.1.1 but on 2.0.1 I've app2sd, jit, xrecovery and obviously root so once upgraded I would root and install xrecovery without problems, the problem is what have i got to do after?
yes you have to upgrade first as in the thread mentioned the rom will only work with 2.1.1 and baseband 15..after upgrade install rooted and xrecovery installed, download the rom (which is update.zip file) dont extrated it..just placed the update.zip file inside your sd card..dont placed it inside any folder, just placed it in ur sd..then reboot..and press back button several time until xrecovery appear..i suggest u to make backup first ,choose backup at xrecovery option for later used (if something goes wrong you can always restore back)..and would be better have backup all things in ur sd (for later used also )then go back to the main screen of the xrecovery..choose install update.zip..then if everything goes fine it will reboot and u have to go to xrecovery back by pressing back button several time and choose factory reset as mentioned in the minicm thread then reboot again..here you go..good luck, remember to always backup ur data before messing around
If You already have 2.1.1 and have it rooted and got xRecovery installed than :
1.Download MiniCM Rom
2.Put the update.zip in the SD card (just drag it onto SD card)
3.Turn off phone and wait 5 seconds
4.Turn on phone and when Sony Ericsson sign appears start tapping "Back(arrow)" button until xRecovery shows (You should make a backup before you install that in every case to be able to resume the state before the installation --> In xRecovery Backup/Restore section)
5.Now install the ROM . In xRecovery go to "Install update.zip from SD card" than "Yes - Install /sdcard/update.zip" and the ROM will start installing
6.Select "Factory Reset" in xRecovery
7.Select "Reboot Phone" in xRecovery (first boot takes about 1~5min)
8.Enjoy new ROM
I think I`m explained quite clearly
+1 Case..its clearly explained good luck Siso.
THANKS i'll do it tomorrow but, if I upgrade now via pccompanion will I have automatically the .15 build? or Have I got to install some other patches?

I dont think u have to install custom rom? not sure, but u probably might have to go on backup/restore and restore the floyo 2.2.1.
if you do backup and restore with xrecovery don't full wipe that will make your phone stuck on SE logo.
While trying to do some mods and themeing I did something very stupid... instead of replacing the framework-res.apk file I first decided to rename it to framework-res.apk.bak
Since that moment I just can't start the phone... it's stuck on loading animation. I've tried to reboot, to wipe, even installed CyanogenMod (the phone is rooted and bootloader unlocked)... the CyanogenMod is installed right now, but after it loads (after the blue animation with the rotating arrow) it shows up the screen with the green droid with two buttons at the bottom - "Emergency call" and something else... and after 5 seconds it restarts back again.
I've tried to push the original file (I have a copy on my computer) but the adb.exe doesn't want to connect to the phone. I can enter in recovery, but there is no way to copy or rename file through there
PLEASE HELP
Use flashtool to flash the original rom you were using, just uncheck the box to wipe user data.

Nope... nothing new It loads the Sony Erricson animation and than restarts back again...
I could do: adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk
But how run the adb?!?! It always shows me: error: device not found

That was bad idea Because now the phone is with the original rom, ie. it's not rooted and it doesn't have recovery (bootloader is locked) and even the USB DEBUGGING and UNKNOWN SOURCES are OFF by default... So now there is absolutely no way to access anything...
Any other ideas?!?!

Find one of the theme packages that can Flash over recovery and flash them. Make sure it contains Famework-res.apk.
You should be able to use adb within recovery.
And how to enter recovery after I installed original rom from Flashtool?
I only can get in fastboot mode and flash mode... because the USB DEBUGGING and UNKNOWN SOURCES are OFF...
P.S> Or give just a tip - how to install a zip update (new theme with new framework-res.apk) at current stage?! Is there a way to do this through Flash mode in Flashtool or through fastboot?!
Flash a kernel with built-in recovery such as this, Advanced Stock (with recovery).

Good idea, but the link from mutliupload.com is closed by FBI Anti-Piracy program I get only a message and can't download the file
Nope... nothing helps. I managed to install the new kernel, after that I installed new theme... - no change, still restarting. Even tried with pushing the framework-res.apk with: adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk
Again - restarting
Any other ideas?
You'll need to flash a rom, not a theme. Use fastboot to flash doomkernel then fastboot to flash arconium or similar, wipe userdata in cwm, reboot then flash your theme.

You said you had CMW recovery, so....
Y U NO MAKE BACKUPS???
Always make nandroid backups before editing system files. It will save you A LOT of time and disappointment.
Since you are in this situation now, do as others adviced you above.
iR¡[email protected]!* via Tapatalk
Of course I had backup This is always the first step before doing anything... but it didn't help! I don't know why... it just didn't!
Here is what I had to do to make the little arc work again:
1. I installed new kernel which has included recovery in it;
2. Through the recovery I did Factory Reset / Wipe data / Wipe dalvik
3. Reboot
4. Through the recovery I started the ADB and did a copy of the original file with this function:
adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk
Click to collapse
5. Through the recovery (without rebooting) I installed the original Generic version, BUT HERE IS THE IMPORTANT THING - moving from 4.0.2.A.0.42 to 4.0.2.A.0.62
After all... it started normally It's important to mention that after each step I was trying to start the phone, but it was still rebooting... so it's logical to say that the key step was the final one.
This is interesting...
When you say backup didn't work, what do you mean? Did you do an advanced restore (system only) or a full restore?
Were you not able to go into recovery at all?
I am asking because I am involved in a project regarding recovery integrated in /system (so for locked bootloaders) and any info would be very valuable! Thanks!

Check "Root, Install ClockworkMod + Remove Bundled Apps from Official 2.3.5 by That-guy" link in my signature. It has guide to install clockworkmod, which you will use to install roms.
The only way (I think) is to backup those infos with titanium. I do not recommend it, because it might cause force closes in ICS if you restore them. After making backups and putting ICS zip to sdcard, reboot to recovery. You do this by booting phone while holding volume +.
Choose backup & restore and backup in there. Then do factory reset and then go advanced -> wipe dalvik
After it choose: install zip from sdcard and choose zip from sdcard from there.
Now navigate to ICS .zip file and choose it. Now choose reboot to system. It should start loading ICS now.
Just one question: i'm with elite .32. Do i need to downgrade to froyo before the instalation of the official beta update?

This is a bit like topic hijack. You dont have to. It is recommended by huawei to do so, but im dont think it matters. If you have time and official 2.2 files somewhere, just do install it. It wont hurt.

It doesn't create a backup of imei. I have a link to full phone backup in my signature too. it requires a linux pc and unlocked bootloader. You can check is your unlocked by booting to pinkscreen and plugging the phone to pc. If pc can use phones memory, bootloader is unlocked. If it's not, there is a link (again) in my signature. Its called "[TUT] Get back our PINK screen!"

Hello everyone.
I hope you can help me.
I had an A500 bricked spontaneously (I was checking Twitter, the screen frozen, I turned off the tablet and when I turned it on again, it stucked on Acer logo) so I used the guide to recover recovery (this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751978, because I rooted my tablet but I didn't install recovery).
Everything was ok, I flashed the V7-Thor v1.7.3 but when I tried to install stock ROM of ICS (wipe data and cache), the tablet got "re-bricked" and only enter in APX mode.
Then I reflashed and installed V8-Thor_1.7.3_recovery and I tried to install Acer_AV041_A500_1.054.00_WW_GEN1-DEODEXED-FULLROOT through update.zip (turned on the tablet in recovery --> Install from zip file --> Install zip file from SD card --> update.zip, then it said "Installed" and I rebooted the tablet, but it stuck on "Booting primary kernel image"...
What I'm missing or doing wrong? :/
What should I do to run ICS in my tablet again?
I'm not familiarized with the ROMs, Recoverys or flash... sorry if my question is stupid or something, but before this I never moved anything to my tablet (except for root it).
And sorry too for my bad English.

I think where you went wrong was choosing "install zip file from sdcard >update.zip"
Go back into recovery again > install from zip file > Choose zip from SD card (
if the file is on your micro sd card)
You should see a list of all your files and choose your rom file:
Acer_AV041_A500_1.054.00_WW_GEN1-DEODEXED-FULLROOT.zip
Once its done, Stay in recovery and go to: Wipe Menu and do all the wipes there
Data -cache and dalvi-cache then reboot
Once you're all set up and before you reboot again, make sure there is not an "update.zip" on your sdcard - if you boot to recovery it may flash automatically and you will end up "stuck" again
good luck

Thanks! I did it and it worked, but after the reboot the tablet only shows the animated android logo... what's the problem? The ROM?
When I did the "Wipe data" it said "Formatting data" and after "Skipping erase of /data/media". I checked with the "Mount and Storage" menu in recovery and seems like my data before the brick's still in the internal storage of the tablet... is that normal?
EDIT: what version of cwm to have now? If its not 1.7.3 then go ahead and reflash the v8

Yes it is - keeps your data intact but 'resets' the rom to like it is when you first flash, there is an option to wipe data/media if you wish to - theres a toggle to enable it but on every boot to recovery it will be disabled again...
You can try another flash of the rom itself otherwise reflash the v8 bootloader.
Do you have access to "fastboot mode" power vol down - just wondering

And I see the option "Fastboot mode" when I turn on the tablet holding Vol +.
About your question I don't know how to answer, I flashed V8-Thor_1.7.3_recovery... is that a CWM?
In the top it says CWM Recovery v5.5.0.x(thor2002ro/digetx rev 1.7.3) Iconia A50x...

sorry, not sure I understand your question...are you saying you're now stuck in apx mode - black screen power light on?
There are 2 types of stock rom on here....
1) Official Acer EUU or OTA roms
2) Official Stock roms which are Custom - pre-rooted and able to flash CWM etc -
If you flash one of the Acer EUU or OTA roms you will lose CWM and Root
To be honest - with your tab "spontaneously" booting and being stuck on the acer logo and the issues that have followed - its sounding more and more like a faulty chip - this is something that only acer can fix...I could be wrong about this and I hope I am...but something is just not feeling right...
- you still have cwm and access to fastboot - thats a bonus - maybe do a complete format thru CWM of data/media, system (and flexrom if its there) then try to flash a rom again - if it still won't flash AND if you're not stuck in apx mode then I think you'd be best to download an official update.zip - from Blackthund3rs thread here this one -
Acer_AV041_1.054.00_WW_GEN1:
Once you've d/l'ed it...try opening it if you can't then it will need decrypting the instructions for this are in the OP..
Once you have extracted the "update.zip" and have it on your sdcard - flash via CWM
good luck

Hello everyone!
I have a similar issue whith my a500. but i can restore the backup i did of my honeycomb sistem in cwm (i have acess)
aftter making the backup i have flashed V8-Thor_1.7.3_recovery.a500apx in apxflashtool in order to get ics boot loader and install ICS roms.
so far so good after the flash i had already a ICS rom in my sd card redy to flash so imediatly after V8 flash entered cwm and did clean format and wipe all. Next installed the rom (aroma instalation) no problems what so ever. After instalation is finished reboted and now im stuck on skilax v8 bootloader boting primary kernel image
i tried the folowing
- chage kernel multiboot fix partitions redo clean format etc etc etc (ALL THE STEPS)
-many other ics jellybean rooms (all of the install but dont boot)
- honey comb rooms install and BOOT normaly.
at this point thought maybe it was a bad V8 flash and decided to reflash the V8-Thor_1.7.3_recovery.a500apx
Now the flash tool can get pass uploading image phase.
i have correct sbk and cpuuid since i had to recover last week from boot verified failed error and use the flash tool whith correct sbk to recover the tablet with sucess.
So basicly im stuck wit
h my honeycomb rom backup or other HC roms
any news on this subject?

Yes just one question what is - " chage kernel multiboot "???? Sounds dodgy
You can boot to fastboot mode then do an erase of data and cache, see if that helps for a start....
Do you stil have recovery and can you still restore your HC backup?
I have seen a post or two where tabs can only boot HC Roms and no ICS
It "maybe" the dreaded hardware fault - you might be best to d/l the babsector.rar and run that - it will give you a proper error if theres something wrong - can get it from the root guide in my sig. Give me a minute or two and I'll post some steps in using it
---------- Post added at 09:12 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:53 AM ----------
How to use babsector.rar
Download and extract the babsector.rar to a folder on your PC
Turn your tab off and put it in apx mode manually. Press and hold reset button, hold power for 3 secs after the light comes on and release it, after another second release the reset button. Your screen is black and the power light is on.
Connect your tab to your PC
Navigate to the babsector folder and click on 501 A.bat, when its done
