Sooooooo conference is over... I can just image what can be done through development on phones now. Now that the SDK is available, hopfully we will see some ICS this month? Im excited!
What are your favorite features? (If you watched the conference)
Without source code we're basically SOL for a daily driver, but SDK ROMs are cool to check out

The face unlock seems cool but what is your in a dark place like a bar. I hope they have an alternate way to unlocking it in that situation.
The new camera app looks sweet and I love how fast it can snap pictures on the Galaxy Nexus.
Taking out physical buttons was brilliant. Not only does it make the screen bigger but this way you can have what ever buttons you like (fully customizable). Unlike now as I never use the search button on my Dinc.
i Love the idea of the facial recognition, im sure rooted devices could eventually impliment thaf into unlocking apps too.
and when they had the mess up, it looked like it went to the pattern unlock, so i guess thats a back up.
the buttons was also great, much more room for larger screens, but the lack of physical buttons also worries me a bit.
hopefully some nice development will come out of this, so far i think this is the best android version with the most features and ui changes

Well, I think it's the ICS apps at least...
Can't wait to so CM8/9 to start showing up. Please make it work on the Incredible.(and the RZR too)
Yeah hope we get some ICS roms soon. Since I'm holding out on a Droid 4 or anything with a QWERTY keyboard, that's not that Samsung toy

Here's my question...
The ICS Google Music app was already leaked a couple weeks ago. Will the other updated apps (like Gmail, for example) be made available to Gingerbread users as well (either via apks or official market update)?

I like the new font.
it may not seem practical with our phones, but you could always use the other camera, turn your phone facing you, and hope it recognized you.
the bricked layout is nice, its not as simple as windows phones, but its a great balance between simplicity and advanced customizability.
also i believe some apks in ics will be ported for other android versions too.

Yes, most likely through market updates. Although if your willing to try you could attempt to install the apk from the system dump. I might mess something else up though, and even if it didn't I don't think the gmail widget would work.

So I decided to buy ROM Manager to support the project but have to admit I was a little disappointed. Sadly I prefer the candy coating of Sense to that of CM. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot to like in CM too. I just tend to like the polish of Sense. Regardless, I had thought I might have direct access to many of the ROMs I've seen throughout the forums. Apparently that's not the case. Does ROM Manager only support CM ROMs?
No worries. I know I could get a refund for the App and return it but I'm cool with it. Maybe in the future more ROMs will become available for it for the Incredible.
Rom Manager supports virtually any rom, it's just a matter of the author setting up his server to work with Rom Manager AFAIK. More will be added eventually.
The chefs have to opt in to be included in ROM manager. Moto Droid had tons of stuff to choose from and I loved it. I have yet to see anything interesting in ROM Manager for the Incredible. Urge your favorite chefs to participate!
Ok, thanks guys. Hopefully things will get more active in the future then.
ROM Manager will gain more roms in due time, there isn't really alot of roms out for the inc as it is now. Also like mentioned its up to the rom devs to put them on there. They will come.

I used to be a fan of Sense, but the fact of the matter is that it's bloated.
There are plenty of alternatives in a ROM like CM for all of the Sense features you'd miss.
Also u can download any ROM and use ROM Manager to install it. Just download rom go into rom manager and choose install from SD. Imho its easier than booting into recovery and installing. So, i. A sense it does support everything else. Its also ez to manage and restore ur backups through ROM manager. Once u use it for a while and figure it out it can b a very handy tool if u are addicted to flashing ROMS. Goodluck i hope this can b of assistance to u
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Yeah the developer of ROM Manager strongly encourages all devs to submit their ROMs... Other phones such as the Moto Droid have a much larger selection... As ROM development gets further along, there will be more on ROM Manager for Incredible as well.
I think the incredible has been hurt by the lack of phones available. I don't recall the original moto droid having inventory issues like the incredible. I think this has hindered rom development and availability of different roms. Imagine if we did not have months of no incredible phones available. The popularity of the incredible might be different, thus in my mind making the demand and supply of roms more available.
I am a big fan of Cyanogen's roms so not that big of a deal for me. I know that once the drivers are released the camera will be fixed. I am wondering if we will be able to have video out with cyan's roms?
Either way - rom manager is a great program and has a lot of different functionalities and uses. Some listed below:
flashing other roms (duh)
nandroid
partition sd card
fix permissions
Let's hope that HTC releases the drivers soon

No there isnt ... there are a few similar apps that just dont quite do it and there are others that are such crapware you would be embarrassed to show your phone to anyone. Seriously when i went with a vanilla UI and tried to find alternatives to Sense widgets and apps, I found out just how crappy the apps were on this OS.

Well I'll have to half agree with you there, there are some Sense widgets that I could never find replacements for. It's really a trade off, although it would be nice if we could somehow extract some of those to be used with a 3rd party or even stock launcher

LOL! I'd like to think I may have had something to do with that. I PM'd him earlier and in short time he replied letting me know he was going to add it. Maybe he was going to do it anyway, I don't know.
Regardless, it GREAT that other cookers are starting to get in on the action. I think more people will end up trying their ROMs too. It's a win - win for everyone.

Sounds interesting, but it'd be nice if your battery lasts longer than 20 minutes on a full charge, unlike when you're running Sense.

#NotReal
..
I'm not too sure myself if this real or not, however what irks me is how people seem to be disappointed at googles lack of "cosmetic" changes.
Really?
It took ios five iterations before making major design changes to their software the- ability to change your wallpaper and implementation of folders. What they added the most was features. What google accomplished with gingerbread most was making the OS look as if it was made by one person and ICS looks no different.
WinPho7 Mango? Still looking square. What was added? FEATURES.
What I look forward to most is the the solution to fragmentation that plaguing the OS and talks of being optimized for dual core devices. At this age of Android design takes a backstage to performance.
Too ugly for you? Slap ADW or Launcher Pro and call it a day.
Top Reasons why its real
1.The lockscreen
2.The Transtion when he opened settings
3.Multitasking menu
4.The Widgets in app draw
5.The Settings menu
6.Screen rotation animation
7.Google apps folder
8.The launcher
why doesnt he just install rom manager and post it on here?

There currently couple of ICS Roms now in our forum (MIUI, Virtuous, CM9, and CG). But my question is, I am a real beginner when it comes to phone system devs, so, when I tried all the newest version of each ICS Roms, I do not feel any major differences. The camera does not work, same issues with crashing, slowness, and etc. I am not complaining about the issues and bugs, but I am wondering what's the difference between each rom? Are there any major difference? And what are we expecting next for the rom? Camera?

OK first of all MIUI ICS is much different then the other ics roms there is more customization in a much easier way and a whole different experience even thought they come from the same source I believe. Now when is comes down to the difference between virtuous and CM9 is the mods and other stuff that you won't notice I personally like virtuous it looks more professional with the mods such as the setting toggle in the notification bar its just me. CG is more of a stock experience so you won't see any mods just pure stock experience. That's the major changes I see and with the bugs I don't really know but there all being worked on with pretty much Feb so if camera doesn't work with one it won't work with the other just give him time I'm sure its coming very soon

This is where I get partially confused, i was running MIUIce Cream Sandwich (ICS v4.0.1) and have had NO issues whatsoever, the camera works, video recording works, and it is fast as all get out (3200-3300 quad consistent o/c to 1.5GHz). I was trying (and failing thus far) to find the camera framework, and hardware ID information from this ROM and inject it into one of the new ICS ROMs we have available.
what all would i need to pull from MIUIce cream sandwich in order to get a working camera in any of the other ICS roms? i know at least i would need to pull the camera .so files from system/lib, but is there any other completely necessary files that should be pulled to get this to work?
im really hoping that a dev stumbles across this and could point me in the right direction, because the camera CAN work, and i have a feeling i am really close to getting it to work, but i don't have the know how (quite yet) of the more experienced devs here.
i really wish it was as easy as my GS4G was when GB ROM leaks started surfacing, that was a 5 minute fix once the right tools came along lol

If you want something like that, Dark_Sys released a newer version, but it reads a GB code and not ICS. And it's quite good and stable. Everything works too. Super great on battery.

Then you can buy a Gnex or wait I know I'm starting to envy the Gnex. I'm just waiting for the HTC Ville which (Should) be unveiled at MWC towards the end of this month..It should be an absolute BEAST
i've been using creamed glacier since december as a daily. two main issues on it are the camera and low mic volume - though that comes and goes.
quattro was a mess for me. once booted the setup routine would crash out and widgets would constantly crash the launcher no matter what i tried.
testing out cm9 right now. big problem is that launcher (NOVA even) crashes a lot. otherwise call volume is great. runs decent. one great thing there is that it actually contacts google and restores apps. plus i received an email from google congratulating me on my purchase of a galaxy nexus

I've tried both, but I still feel like I don't quite have the big picture of what their respective strengths and weaknesses are on the Epic. They both have a little development ways to go of course, but assuming that's not an issue -- what are your opinions?

agreed,
There are a handful of apps you can only use with ICS, as of right now, we cannot use google wallet on CM7, but hopefully with the Beta upgrade of CM9 we will be able to utilize google wallet. Among others like Chrome Beta... There are also cool upgrades like the panoramic camera.
Also if you invest enough time configuring it, the face unlock is a neat little feature.

Hard to get a handle on that because most of the CM9 feature set (as in additions to stock AOSP) haven't yet been finalized upstream and released. As such, right this moment, CM7 does much much more as far as tweaks go....thus the links to the stock info.

This is what's convincing me. However I'm unsure whether my battery life will be good enough to last a full day without having to charge it. Another thing is just the fact that there are a few glitches. I think I may try it again, but I'm not the guy that likes to spend 30 min getting everything set up after I flash cm9. I tried alpha0 in the past so I have an idea of what its like.
P.S. can you configure the buttons in the pulldown menu in cm9? For example, like add airplane mode and then move it in front of the wifi toggle?

Looks pretty slick as an all-in-one package, but it doesn't look like anything that couldn't be accomplished right now with tasker, locale, your favorite widgets, and some hub-like home page setups, does it? A build your own variety would offer much more customization. Reminds me of an app I use on my note... car dock home. It is setup to recognize my dock or a bt connection in my car and brings up a totally new home screen with different apps and widgets, and cuts off wifi.

Wanted to support them earlier already, but was only do to so now since you can pay with paypal now. It really is still in beta mode, not all widgets are included either. Only instagram, twitter (2 options) weather, news (rss) and gmail. They included some wallpapers as well, but you can load your own too. It lags a little on Team Eos JB nightly, but they said they are working on it. I do hope for some more settings and gimmicks, and perhaps some mods. I really hope for some drawer mods though, as I prefer the stock one, preferably with some options (my other launcher is nova prime).
It has a lot of potential, so I think it's a good investment in the android modding.
