App like siri for our vibrants? - Vibrant General

Any app which is like Siri?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium

Speaktoit or Vlingo. I use neither because it doesn't work well enough for me.

Just found iris. Not bad.

Iris? Never tried that one, I'll have to give it a whirl.

The iris app is still in alpha stage, but its an interesting start. To tell you the truth I just use the built in Google voice search which looks like might get an update with ice cream sandwich. Otherwise I know many people like Vlingo.

Iris? Sounds like Siri... Gotta check it out... Too bad it's just alpha

Are we all aware iris is siri spelled backwards.....oh we are ....good just checking

there's a great story behind iris: it was developed in only 8 hours during a hackathon last weekend. it's not very good yet, but it has a lot of promise.

Iris
Download Iris. It is alpha and at this point just for fun.
Vlingo is another option.
Or Google Voice Search which in my opinion is no different than siri.

+1 to Vlingo. Used it back when I had my BB and used it since I got Android. Voice search, dial, reads my messages while I'm driving. Love the ability to yell at the phone to wake it up and have it do what I need, totally hands-free.

i would be very supprised to see anythink like siri work properly on android. i;ve tried several apps mentioned here, and most seem far too laggy to really be of any use.... and that is if the app doenst crash on you. speektoit was insain on craching last i tried it....
i have my doubts siri actually works as good as the comercial, the jury is still out for me till i get my hands on one to test it...

ALL these apps ,including Siri, depends on Really good data connection... so, yes if your data connection is poor, it will seem laggy .... so far speaktoit seems really good (TO me ) , but like i said, they all depend on a great data connection... best be,t try them on a wifi connection ....
PS .. I take great offence with you saying "i would be very supprised to see anythink like siri work properly on android ".... fact is google voice search ,an app built in to all android phones, does all that siri does plus more, and it is well integrated into the OS ... the only difference is voice search will not answer you with voice ,but with text.. its been around long before siri just not popular ,but once again ,this is why Jobs and his products were so successful ... He didn't invent the wheel , but he knew how to convince the masses that he redesigned and streamlined it , and took full credit for its existence...
SO please don't put down the android OS, it is still young and growing, to the point that Jobs feared it ...

Actually I disagree if you use siri you will find it is much better than google voice search and cooler as well. I am not dissing Android, bit could u tell google voice search "will u marry me" and it will tell you that's weird.

Back to on topic ... all of the above apps works great .. maybe even better than siri, but we will never know of siri bugs, because as you know, negative feedback about apple products never last long in apple forums or on the net ...

How is that useful for anything but novelty?
Let me guess: You have about 20 different sound boards on your phone, and a family guy wallpaper. Your ringtone is the sound of a fart. And you waste hours each day playing the "moron test" app.

Siri ONLY runs on a dual core iPhone4S. Siri would suck on a single core iPhone4. Siri needs mega horsepower and even in the iPhone4S it's laggy. The point is that if you try any of the Android voice assistants, the more horsepower you have to throw at it, the faster it will respond. So don't try and compare a single core phone and expect to be the same as a dual core one.

Well iPhone 4s with dual core and a little bit of multitasking ( if one can call it that) , and behold it has the same issues that other dual core real multitasking phones are suffering form ....
Look at some of the settings being turned off or tweaked, to extend battery life ...... siri.

1. Iris is pretty terrible, imo.
2. Vlingo is good, I recommend it.
3. You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Siri makes voice actions look like dirt. They aren't even that comparable, imo.

go to a carrier store and try a 4s. It works as well a the commercials. The fact that you doubt something that takes 5 minutes to test in one of 3 carrier stores (here) is laughable.

Additionally, the synthesized voice on android is markedly worse than on iOS or WP.

Windows Facebook App....

Does anybody else find that this app does not give you everything that should be available to you?
For example, when someone 'likes' a status it will not show up in your notificatiins and you therfore have to go to the mobile website which kind of defeats the objective of an app.
Has anybody got another app that will work better on the HD2?
Dare I say it .... like the dreaded sheep followed 'iPhone'?
Quite an infuriating aspect of the situation.
i agree with you. the iphone facebook app, it´s soooo much better than this one on the HD2.
I have both
Even the latest marketplace version isn't great, its better, but not great.
I tend to use the full site in Opera anyhow.
there's a guy on here developing his own facebook app isn't there? I remember seeing it a while ago. Hopefully it will come to fruition as i totally agree with the sentiments that the current FB app for WM majorly sucks ass! lol

Not strong enough mate! lol
They do have the occasional update to Facebook in the Marketplace, so be sure to keep that in mind.
But, I am betting they are holding off any major updates until WP 7. Most of the development for a lot of the apps on WinMo 6 is stopping and shifting to WP 7. I guess we all shall see how WP 7 pans out by years end. Hopefully MS doesn't let us down!

Swype might already be obsolete

wow that is crazy... not sure what I think of it so far, the keyboard thing is interesting and I'd love to play with it.
got to say the keyboard that I really like is skiftkey it monitors how you type and predicts your next word. I keep switching between swype that swiftkey.
Ahh, no thanks. It's always good to have options and competition, but I could never use that keyboard.
So far ShapeWriter seems fastest for me. I wish it had better prediction though.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Wow, how did they do that, lmao.
not bad. I still like swype better =)
The phrase invisible keyboard sounds really cool until you take a second and realize how silly it actually is. Additionally what if I meant to write tao and it thinks I must surely have meant tap or rap or yap, or maybe I meant tso as in the general's chicken or tsp like the measure. As far as I can tell this new system is nothing more than unmitigated sillyness.
Magicked from my Vibrant by tube traversing XDA elves.
this looks like a good concept but i dont think id like it for real world use for same reasons as posted above. I still love swipe not sure id want to change
This has alot of potential, ill give it a try when its released.

Looks amazing, but also looks gimmicky. I have gotten a but too used to swype to try another"hunt and peck" keyboard.

Hmm. Now we don't have to even spell words correctly? I can't see how this a good thing in the long run unless it's for people with conditions affecting their motor skills. It just reinforces laziness.

Siri for Atrix and all other Android phones.

Hey there guys.
I know a lot of you folks have been highly impressed with Siri but i have not seen/read anybody mentioning that Android has an as good or an even better personal assistant called "Speaktoit" and it's free in the android market as well. I have tried all, if not most of the Voice Command apps in the market (Iris, Voice Action, Vlingo, etc...) but Speaktoit is by far the best in my own personal experience. Check out the video embedded below if you are not yet aware of it. I love Speaktoit so far!!!
Since i only seen people who upload apps and/or their own themes in the apps and themes section, i posted this thread in the "General" section. I Hope that i did not post this thread in the wrong section.

I thought you had to download trial versions of some software in order to change the voice? Speaktoit itself recommended two apps from the android market and one of them is free but you have to pay in order to download the voices. You can hear samples of the voices though and they are absolutely human-like.
Anyway, here's another awesome video to show how awesome this app is.

I like the "Grace" voice from SVOX, I have it set as my default voice for all apps. There are a few new ones I like too but I bought Grace first and am happy with her.
I downloaded Iris earlier and thought it was a joke. It recognized everything I said fine but wasn't able to answer not one question I asked it. I like the "smart ass" answers it gives, but not when asking "What is the weather?", it should be able to answer something like that! I know its early beta, but it sucks.

Personally, I don't see what's the hype around Siri, as voice assistants have existed on phones for years.
It seems that whatever feature Apple announces - it immediately becomes very cool and highly wanted by everyone.
Imho, voice assistants are only useful if you use a bluetooth headset.
Otherwise if you need to take the phone out of the pocket and press the button to activate voice input, you might as well do everything by hands.
I personally don't use bluetooth since it sucks for listening to music.
I like Speaktoit, but sometimes it doesn't hear me in the mic. Voice Actions is fantastic, although not providing an actual conversation, it recognizes my voice perfectly. My only bug with it is that it fc's while your in a call for some reason.

As much as I love Iris and Android in general, that video is not a real Iris performance at all, not even close.
It clearly shows video editing trickery to make it seem fluent and funny.
Iris in its current alpha state does not perform like that.
Voice Actions and Speaktoit do perform close enough to Siri though.
By the way, you can create interesting responses for video performances like that with the Speak it app.

That's a good point. It seems really cool to tell your phone "put a note in a calendar that I have to prepare a paper due on next friday", but just try to do it when the lecturer, or your boss, or whatever, keeps talking Also voice activated sms would be hard to bear. Did I want to end the message with "piece, bro"? Hell no! Et cetera, et cetera.
several options for android "SIRI" here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311667

[INFO] Google creates similar app like Siri but much clearer

Apple's Siri voice control system is as a 'digital personal assistant' designed to allow you to talk to your phone like you talk to other people.
Many Google Android functions already have similar apps built in - although not quite to the specifications of Apple's much-hyped control systems.
Now it seems Google may be about to unveil an official Android rival to Siri - called Majel after Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, the actor who played the voice of the Starship Enterprise in Star Trek.
The name was reported by sources speaking to the Android and Me blog this week.
The name tallies with earlier comments from Google staffers about a 'Star Trek'-like approach.
Google is definitely working on such a system - and this week announced that it had acquired the company Clever Sense, which offers a voice control app.
'I say this year because I’ve heard that engineers at Google X are working around the clock on finishing the first release and the NYTimes previously reported that one product would be released by Google X this year,' wrote Android and Me.
Google X is the search giant's 'blue sky ideas' division - a secretive lab where engineers are free to go wild with ideas such as talking fridges and lifts that take you to space.
'A January or February release might be more realistic,' said Android and Me. 'Other more advanced features like controlling phone actions and applications with natural language commands are expected to come later.'
In earlier interviews, Google acknowledged that it was indeed working on such as product - and that it would be rather like the voice of the Starship Enterprise.
'Our approach is more like Star Trek, the Starship Enterprise - everything is voice-aware,' said Google's Matias Duarte.
Press thanks if you like the post

Well, apple just applied for a patent on, well basically multitasking. Something their phone doesn't even really do.
I wonder how long it will take for them to blow all their cash suing other companies.
The sooner the better IMO.
I hope Google gets majel to do the voice for this app. Then fire a couple quantum photon torpedoes at Apple and make them have no patents and have to pay licenses to every single tech company in the world.
