while a section will be nice, isn't it a little soon to be threatening to abandon a phone for lack of development? Things in the original Atrix world are only just beginning to be interesting...
I don't know but if there isn't soon some development on the Iphone 5 i'm LEAVING!
Haha, what a stupid thread. Maybe this will make it better.

For one I am not loyal to any one phone because it's too many out there to choose from. Secondly I prefer a phone I can flash things on so without developers and my nonknowledge about developing (I am currently learning) I much rather have a device that developers work on...

I thought about it but the store by my house only had atrix 2 on Monday when I went in and said they were no longer carrying the og atrix so in a sense it was decided for me... I will possibly get the g2 from best buy as it's cheaper there and compare before I make my final decision...

There is nothing wrong with the Atrix 2 it's build quality is actually quite a bit sturdier and having that .3 inch screen difference really does make a difference plus the UI is leaps and bounds better than the OG and I have owned the OG. Still nothing wrong with the OG just like the build quality and what not of the second one a little better. As for Development it does take some time to get that started. I mean the OG took this long to get Development to this point and the Thrill is still SLOWLY progressing. The only reason the SGSII has the development it does is mainly because it was released over seas awhile before it came to the states so people had time to get used to it and what not and the hardware didn't change to horribly much from over seas to here. Plus add to the advertising they spent on rolling that device out and how much Hype got centered around it.

I am happy with my atrix 2 with or without dev..... But it would be nice to tinker with the guts of it.... Good lord know my captivate went to the cops and cried rape because of xda.
Wow I have the phone and Just realized it has FM Radio awesome Was missing that feature when I left to go to the OG Atrix from the MyTouch 4G.
Just an FYI http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1301121 go there to request the atrix 2 get a place to be.
Holy crap your right, do a search for "Droid 3 FM radio.APK" its 524 KB and it will let you use FM radio. I thought it was connecting to the net but it let me pickup my favorite station. You will need headphones it this is awesome!

Hello buddy, seems you got the Atrix2 already. i just have some questions on this
is the CPU TI4440 or TI4430?
is the display pixel arrangements RGB or Pentile?
does the display satisfy you?
does the camera satisfy you?

The cpu is ti omap4430
The display is qhd no lentils. The screen is beautiful not as nice as Sammy super amoled but I think the atrix 2 holds its own.
The camera is great,my pictures are super crisp and eye catching. The video recording is good as well. I plan to keep this one for a while after being let down by google and samsung the other day.
Question for someone who knows the answer: what is dual channel ram? Seems as though the atrix 2 has this as well...

Ok, so it's apparently "confirmed" from an HTC rep that this phone isn't coming to the UK shores
http://www.electricpig.co.uk/2010/03/24/htc-evo-4g-next-gen-network-hopes-dashed/
How fuct is that?? I would have bet the farm that this phone would have been a sure seller.
Really baffled by this, if true...
I'm sure there will be a Euro or UK version of something "very similar."
I mean, this phone is basically an HD2 on speed, so it wouldn't surprise me if HTC made a GSM version of the EVO (probably sans WiMax since it's not popular over there yet, iirc.)
Exactly what I was thinking - had it not been for Winmo, I think the HD2 would have been a much better seller.
And now the EVO which is, as you say, a super-charged HD2 with Android and 8mp camera..
I just cannot see the marketing sense in NOT bringing it out over here in the UK (and Europe).
Unless they have some different version of it ready to drop on us under a different name "sans 4g"..
It wil come to europe, although ofcourse a modified version. Earlier specs of supersonic have confirmed a GSM version. Why it came to the US first, I don't know. Most of the time they first release a European version and then move on to the US. Perhaps HTC's brand-building in the US has been noticed and Sprint went ahead to discuss a deal for this phone. Non the less it could also be that the announcement coincided with an earlier event in the US, than one that is in the EU. I do remember how many rumors there where about a US release of the HD2 yes/no. Well, we all know now that did happen.
Don´t worry for that, it will come, as stated above, in a different flavour but sure you´ll have it
Remember this strategy of giving the "privilege" some time to Europe and some times to America of having it first
I suggest they make a "World" launch this time
Hey europe had the HTC HD and it wasnt released over here, but afer time it came but. Howw is that different?
For once us Americans get the upper hand on the cell phone wait game. I'm sure you guys will get the same phone a few months later.
I hope so. Want to buy the Evo... Cant stay with hd2 anymore

my concern is not whether we get it first, but whether we get it at all.
And if we do, then with a proper 4G. We here don't have wimax about 2-3 years already. It's almost dead. What we do have is 4G(although so little it doesn't almost count yet)
E: It got me a bit suspicious, and i discovered that they can label almost any technology providing 100M link as 4G.
Well, as an American who's been living in Germany the past 8 years, I can honestly say that
Europe definetely get more perks when it comes to phones. It doesn't bother me that it will come to the states first. I just hope that it comes here AT ALL.
And in regards to it being the...once again...iPhone Killer....it won't happen. As much as I DESPISE Apple, you can bet ur ass that Steve Jobs will be presenting SOME SICK STUFF
when the new iPhone drops.
Keep in mind guys..Google doesn't want to kill the iPhone. Google LOVES the iPhone.
It puts their search engine, maps, and services in the hands of 40 million people.
As long as they still have market share, and know that most people will search online
with Google, they could care less what smartphone your using.
That said.I'm sure in terms of smartphone market share, that they will be right even with
Apple in the coming years. But even then, the iPhone will be important for Google.
That is unless of course Steve Jobs does something really stupid and bans Google use
somehow on the iPhone.
Then Google will kill it And let's not forget..as awesome as EVO will be (God I want that
damn phone) Nexus 2 could also have the potential to DEVESTATE the new iPhone if
marketed properly this time.
Sry for the typos..posting from my G1 right now

ICD Gemini Tablet
Gemini has beautiful 11.2" screen, compared to iPad’s 9.7" – a whole 1.5" larger diagonally. This gives us 8.38 square inches of extra viewing space to ogle at.
But this is just the beginning. Gemini specs include:
an ultra-fast dual core nVidia Tegra 2 1GHz CPU
a 3G connection with voice, SMS, and MMS support
2 cameras – 5MP autofocus on the back and 2MP fixed focus on the front – hey, that’s way more than even my desktop’s webcam has!
a GPS – the iPad doesn’t have any
a user replaceable 40Wh battery compared to iPad’s 25Wh one
an SD card reader
support for playing 1080P video
a promise to support Adobe Flash which is not too shocking considering this is an Android platform
dual speakers AND dual microphones for noise cancellation
FM radio
USB ports – iPad doesn’t even have any
a 1366 x 768 pixel resolution
Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, infrared
Android (of course, why else would we talk about it here?)
11.8" x 7.5" x 6" dimensions
If you dont know everything about the EVO then slap yourself now
I missed all that and am stuck staring at your GIF.
is there a TL;DR version?
The Evo is a very interesting device. For sure when it comes time to upgrade it'll be my device of choice.

TL;DR : ICD Gemini Tablet > iPad; HTC EVO > *
These two devices are not even remotely the same. Can you imagine holding something larger than an iPad up to your face to make phone calls?
One is a phone, one is not. Why the comparison?
Epic GIF though.
I need a phone with computer like abilities more than a computer with phone like abilities. The Gemini is too big to just carry around everywhere you go.

That Gemini will be hard to fit in your pocket......lol
Even though the Gemini is pretty cool device... when I want to purchase a mobile device... I'm going to look for a mobile device, not a tablet. Even if it can make phone calls and such... it isn't portable and it no longer becomes a feasible mobile device in my eyes.
The Evo has large enough screen, especially at 4.3"... it'll be the biggest screen in the mobile/smart phone scene. So, with that instead, I still plan on getting the Evo over any device as of right now.

When you decided to put the "vs" in there. you turned it into a comparison. Along with deciding between the two. They're two completely different devices, that's the same as deciding between a laptop and a phone. Calling capabilities doesn't make it a phone since you can technically make calls from your home pc or laptop. Both great devices, but not sure why you'd choose one over the other. If it's a phone you need, evo, if it's a tablet you want, gemini. simple

but for a mobile device i would rather get the evo or something a little bigger like one of the dell phones

this is coming from a heavy user of both phones (me)
Nexus s: gingerbread and flash on camera
Galaxy s: fm radio, external sd card and HD recording at a higher frames per second.
Clear winner has got to be the galaxy s,
Note: missing an external sd is awful.
I Can't wait for gingerbread to hit the galaxy s

Not a disagreement on the topic as it is personal but I have never, ever needed an external memory card. And the SGS is way better at video which I have actually got to post soon a proper side by side recording demo, but I really do not care. At all. An that struck me as odd..
I think not everyone needs video in HD and some people may claim they do then entirely ignore the function. I prefer battery life and call quality over 720p video. But this is a personal thing.
something that should be mentioned as well
the Samsung Nexus S DOES NOT have gorilla glass, it will break if you drop it the wrong way
the SNS has NFC (which i rather trade for a microSD support)
i ran out of space too many times already, it's really hitting a nerve
is very annoying to have to keep uninstalling stuff, to be able to try something new

Edited to re-include the GGlass thing, I had it in an early draft and forgot on the rewrite..
SD over NFC... I'm sort of with you, I don't use either. But the NFC has been amusing so far just to wave it over the security tags at work, it's vaguely possible something interesting will come of that and the developer community.

Good article. Please fix the typos, namely differentiating between 'its' and 'it's' as they have completely different meanings.

Honestly, I never learnt any sort of language at school so this is mostly an amalgamation of what I have read and worked out since..
I shall certainly have a go. It's as in It Is and Its for possessive.
Ok that was at least a quick set of corrections. I fear there will be more to do in general though perhaps after sleeping some. Thanks for the pointer.

Singapore is now conducting trials for NFC applications. Though right now the use is limited, but I foresee in the near future that NFC is going to find its use, perhaps even sooner than expected.

i wouldnt get too bent out of shape regarding the sgs video recording.. i mostly use it in loud environments ie concerts and the video recording on the sgs is useless all you get is noise... anyone compare on the nexus s how recording is in loud environments.

It's certainly going to see more use in some regions than others at first, outside those who have it now. Where I am it will probably remain a curiosity for the time being.

No but it is something I could try although it may have to be faked with my stereo.
I have some night time video and regular phone call recordings which I need to mix up and put on youtube or somewhere yet - tumblr is not too good at mixing multimedia into a text post apparently.
I am open to questions on the topic, it would help me add more in a follow up post later on. The idea is to help people make a choice, even if they decide an HTC or iPhone is best for them.
SGS video recording @ 720p is good although the audio stream is pathetic. Even when trying to shoot a video of my floorstanding speakers playing music, the audio statistics of the file generated are horrendous.
Last time i checked i got 62kbps bitrate and 32KHz sample rate. This is by no means 21st century stuff. Garbage.
Audio playback through headphones sucks majorly compared to my ipod. Makes me wonder why i chose this plastic piece of junk.
GPS is top notch, on my 6th replacement handset from orange...oh its something alright. The replacement i received this morning gives a slight pink/red tint when using the camera function, focussing on a white sheet of paper.
Should have gone for the iphone4, shoots great video with good sound, plays good sound, gps works...thats all i need. Oh and mic is clear for calls. I am by no means an Apple fanboy, i just want something that WORKS! Silly i know...

Don't get me wrong. It's 100% accurate. It's just that it's ridiculous that a company the size and stature of Samsung can't get their sh!t together when it comes to software. I should have know three years ago when I bought one of their LCD picture frames. Beautiful hardware, but the CD came with a virus on it!. LMAO!
this is so true
It is true, it is insane and it is funny. Well less funny at the price we paid but you know.
It is because of this that I suspect if 2.3 is built for SGS it is not suddenly going to work properly especially since it would seem the filesystem is a big part of the performance.
Mind you, now Google is building the OS with Hummingbird in hand perhaps it will improve slightly by default?
Google Nexus S Complaints Grow, Android Gingerbread To Blame?
Tuesday, 11 January 2011 22:24 Kayla Adams .
The highly anticipated Google Nexus S which debuted recently has all but disappeared from the headlines despite the recent row of new Android smartphones unveiled at CES 2011. However the Android 2.3 Gingerbread smartphone has jumped into the spotlight once again for negative reasons.
Google confirmed reboot bug in Nexus S
The Google Nexus S, manufactured by Samsung, now apparently has a bug which causes the Android to reboot randomly. Google has gone ahead and confirmed the bug which in average causes Nexus S units to randomly reboot at least once every 48 hours. There are also complaints that the handset reboots during calls.
Android Gingerbread software glitch or a Samsung manufacturing defect?
Google engineer Ry Guy, states that the search giant is "in the process of investigating with Samsung" to find the cause of the problem which they managed to reproduce in their labs. Let's hope its not an Android 2.3 Gingerbread bug as many existing Android are looking forward to the upgrade.

Not all handsets though. We had this as a major problem for SOME users around the world on the Galaxy S. Was fixed in 2.2.
I also had this on my Motorola Milestone, but so far the Nexus S has been running for 2 or 3 weeks with not a single reboot here.
I was considering pre ordering a Neptune Pine from neptunepine.com has anyone else from here pre ordered it?
and does anyone know if it will be root able or even have the play store? and if the battery is removable.
I also find it a little worrying that their is only a few photos of it on someones wrist and a 18 second video to proof its existence so far.
it seems to be the best stand alone android smart watch there is atm imo apart from having only 512mb ram instead of,
1gb like the top spec truesmart and the fact its 200mhz slower cpu if i remember correctly.
Some of its specs are below:
Display
2.4 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen
320x240 QVGA resolution
Cellular Networks
GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1700, 1900
UMTS/HSPA+/WCDMA 850, 1700, 1900, 2100
Memory
512MB RAM
16 or 32 GB mass storage
OS
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
Connectivity
Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
GPS
Bluetooth 4.0
USB 2.0
Micro-SIM
Sorry if this is in the wrong place I'm new here and didn't see any thread for this device.
What I wanna know is if it's only three months away where are the real photographs of a working unit?
I'll get the Omate (and I will in October actually). I don't feel like wearing a massive block on my wrist. The Motoactv is big enough, which is why I like how the Omate is a similar size.
There is a lame 18 second video on their youtube page and a few photos of it on someone s wrist on there facebook page, I'm still unsure weather to trust them to send it if I pre order tho based on so little rl proof And so close to shipping.

Oh hey, only saw their website. Finally I see the elusive Neptune Pine in action! Yup, it does look massive! I'll stick with the Omate. I would get ripped on so bad at work if I wore the Pine. The Truesmart is more watch-like for sure.
Fair enough but personally I profur the bigger size as it should make it Easyer to see and use stuff on it right?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I have no problems with my Motoactv. I wouldn't want it any bigger. Couple the Truesmarts more sensitive touchscreen and higher resolution and I'm more than happy.
The only reason I'd get the Pine is if I were a big burly guy with big hands and a large enough wrist to drown out the large rectangle strapped to it. With the bigger fingers the extra screen size would be beneficial.
But I'm not, I'm 5'11 and thin. My wrist is just not able to accommodate a massive watch and make it look socially acceptable in the construction business.

What he said.
On paper the neptune pine looks fairly decent. It's a shame its soo huge! The guy they picked to model the watch did them no favours as it makes it look even bigger.
I was seriously considering it until I saw the pics. It stated a 800mah battery as opposed to the 600mah omate but in the end omate were far batter in pushing their device.
I'm hoping someone does opt for the pine as I'd still be interested in seeing what people think of it
Nice thing is that it has..

and has rear AND front-facing camera both with LED flash!
It's just [0.4] inches bigger than the

which I use for about a year now
plus its water-resistant
Is the Pine water-resistant?
The Pine will have a water-resistant coating, making it "splash-proof",
i.e. sweat, rain, accidental spills likely won't cause any damage to the device.

The decent camera on it is useless when on your wrist tho, and the z1 is so weak its useless and a total Rip off at £150 I was going to get a z1 back when it was newer until I saw how low spec and horribly laggy it is. The pine seems perfect apart from having. Half as much ram as the true smart and the fact the main camera is in a stupid place. I am def getting one if I see enough proof its not another scam like the emopulse blatantly was

A Watch-Phone has the following advantages
over all cell phones because it's always on your wrist:
1 - Instantly accessible to answer calls.
2 - Improbable that you may forget it.
3 - Difficult to lose it.
4 - Most unlikely to be dropped and crushed.
5 - Difficult to be stolen.

It seems kind of sketchy with no real coverage. If they aren't a well known company, wouldn't it make sense to expose the product as much as possible. At least an introduction video to let the masses know about it. The secret arm and voice with a website accepting money for a soon to come product just doesn't seem right
On a side note: I would grab it if it is authentic

after too many google searches i finally rooted my device and installed darkforest rom on it(yes, without unlocking bootlader and flashing any kenrel )

You Know it shocks my Damn Mind. That Companies don't want to get more rich.. An Xperia play 2 with real analog sticks, or any companies device for that matter would sell Hugely. The Nvidia shield is the only device, but its not a phone, nor is it usable like a regular tablet.
A new Xperia play cant steal sales from The ps vita, the ps vita is a standalone device with Unreal Graphics and Remot play options with Ps3/4.
Just wish some company would make a New one. A Nexus 5 with a Ps vita style body with Real Accurate Analog sticks would be a dream...

.. I am more sad today now.. everyone leaving day by day.. its really sad to know your going. I hope when we get 3.4 Kernel.. you return to xperia play. thanks a lot.. your experimentation for the kernel helped us a lot.
