Hi everyone..
Yesterday I was walking and decided to make a backup of my apps and ROM because i was using MIUI on my Nexus S. I wanted to change to CM 7.1 and everything was Ok, until I entered CW recovery and tried to enter in the option "Choose a zip, something" but It appeared the message "Can't mount SD".
First thing I did was to turn Off the phone and waited until i got home... But later when I plugged it to the laptop it told me to Format sd...
So I didn't know what to do, I did it... I think I did it wrong.. But i tried to install via Odin a new Image and everything went well.. But when booting animation froze...
I thought it was easy but later the phone didint turn on... not Bootloader.. not recovery nor Download mode...
It only lights the buttons in this order...
Power button...
Lights Home button.. then lights search button...
They turn off.
Then Menu and BAck buttons are lighted and thats all...
Black screen, no boot.. Its dead
Anyone knows whats happening?
If it is lost... its ok.. but I just want to know if there is something to do.. because I searched all night and can't find anything.
ihave same problem any solution to fix it
When you say no bootloader have you tried with it connected to your computer? I'm asking because I have seen this behavior when an incorrect bootloader had been installed. If your computer recognizes the device there is a chance you could flash a complete stock image via fastboot.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
....just a thought
why don't send it back to Samsung?
you may need to pay for fix , but it's better then you lost it ...
Its been 6 days...did you get it resolved?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
I have tried everything... PC doesnt recognize...
Its always black screen..
Today I tried to tap all buttons it only vibrated and thats all...
Thank you for answering.. but If someone knows how to fix.. I will appreciate the help...
If not... do I have to send it to samsung?
Here is a video of the Nexus S
I can't post links yet... but here is it the link... youtubedotcom/watch?v=9PL2rQKqfqA
after watch your video , i think it is hardware problem , which is none of us can be fixed ... if it is software problem , people from this forum can help , but hardware... well
of course , i'm not professional , i am not sure ,but if I were you , i would have it sent to Samsung...
have you noticed your 4 button down there ? it shouldn't light up like that ...i mean , it might light up like that with BLN control , but before you even get in the system ...that's kinda unusual to me
---------- Post added at 12:22 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:20 AM ----------
as I said , you have unlocked and rooted , which means it makes you lost your warranty , and you may need to pay for repair , but anyway , it's better then you completely lost it ... don't you think ?
WHY THE HELL DID YOU USE ODIN!!??
ODIN is a last resort and a 50/50 program with the nexus s.
anyways. can you get it in download mode?
does your pc find it?
does adb find it?
id recomand you downloading android SDK and plug your phone in on OFF state. than turn it on. and go to cmd. enter" adbdevices " and see if it will vind it.
(better instructions in the rooting thread on xda(about adbdevices))
if this doesnt help.
send it to samsung.
dont open your nexus. unles you think you can repair it yourself.
what is the sound on your video? (like device connected) check device manager pls, and find 'android 1.0' or 'android bootloader interface'
are you sure, does not recognize the phone your pc?

While I agree that Odin is terrible (at least to use with this phone), I think it may be a hardware issue. He even said that he was seeing "Can't mount SD" in recovery. That is sounding like an issue with storage. Can't tell for sure though. Really strange that the two menu buttons light up like that...

You apparently didn't read the thread...
And yes, partitions need to be mounted, which are on storage. If it can't access the partition, it will complain it isn't mounted. This could mean many things, in this case, probably hardware.
I was under the assumption that Nexus S was unbrickable...?
Well last night I tried to turn it on and it's always the same.
I'm going to send it to Samsung.
Thanks guys for all your answers.

i did read..
you dont need storage to push a rom.
and to fix the storage. you need a working rom to format the storaGE...
there are exactly 4 to 5 drivers you instal to get your nexus S working on the pc.
1 of them is the storage driver(USB massa storage driver)
the other's are phone related.
if it wouldnt turn on,this wouldnt even be happening.
"I thought it was easy but later the phone didint turn on... not Bootloader.. not recovery nor Download mode...

Power button...
Lights Home button.. then lights search button...

Black screen, no boot.. Its dead "
this only shows that the current kernel and rom are mesed up.
he is missing the display drivers.
and the capative touch button driver is corrupted.
or, this is a error signal.
showing that something is corrupted.
"Power button...
Lights Home button.. then lights search button...
They turn off.
Then Menu and BAck buttons are lighted and thats all..."
just like mors code.
if it couldnt turn on,than the lights wouldnt even turn on.

Ok.. So a friend of mine suddenly got a triangle with the exclamation mark picture on his phone. That's all it boots up to. So, he took it to T-mobile, they told him it's FUBAR, and sold him a new phone.
The fact that the thing boots to a recovery mode tells me that there's SOME way to un-FUBAR this phone. My friend is too technologically inadiquate to attempt to do any modifying, so I'm going to assume he was at whatever firmware level would hve been blasted out to T-mobile as of last Friday 01/15/2010.
If I boot the phone normally, it gives me the TriAngle. I pop open the keyboard and hit alt-L and the I get the Android System Recovery menu. at the bottom I get "E:CAn't open /cache/recovery/command"
I've spent all day bouncing around this forum, and many like it, downloaded all sorts of G1 fimwares trying to go back to RC29, RC28, 30, 33.. gah! The latest one I'm trying to update to is "signed-kila-ota-116143-prereq.TC4-RC19+RC28+RC29.zip" Which i rename to update.zip . I hit alt-L, select 'update from SD card' It goes through:
--Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Installing update package....
Installation aborted.
That's it... no more log than that.
I've done the Alt-W, and Alt-S.. wiped cache partition. I think playing around with the recent firmwares might be fun, but I'd like to get this bad boy reset back to factory defaults. I've read the forums here on how to do that.. but all of the procedures fail.
I can get Windows 7 to recognize the phone, but I cannot access the sd card while it is in the phone. I've been transfering data to it by taking the sdcard out, and putting it into a known good SD card reader. I've formatted the sdcard to FAT16, and FAT32 quick and not quick.
Seriously.. why is this so complicated? Now I need some serious digging assistance. Is there an interface that will allow me to directly talk to this phone via the USB cable? How can I force an firmware onto it? Clearly something is functional, or I would get no I/O. How can I get this silly thing back to where it was? I know this thread seems like a redundant one, but as far as I can tell, its not. The typical procedures posted here don't seem to work, but I'll be happy to run through any steps y'all suggest. I'll resign that it's been bricked if that's really whats happened.. but I'm not ready to throw this unit away yet.
Ask questions.. let me answer them. I know this team can get this phone working again.
Thanks y'all.

bingo !
sounds like your friend tried to flash something he shouldn't have. or messed around with stuff he shouldn't.
as far as taking it to the store, and accepting their suggestion to "GIVE US YOUR MONEY!" that was a mistake.
the phone is likely fine, and maybe you'll buy it from him for cheap, then fix, resell/use.
good luck, should be easy.
The "press camera and power to get to bootloader" procedure. I've tried holding the Camera while pressing power over and over and all I get is the triangle. However if I press power and the "back" button (swooping arrow to the left), I'll get the bars screen, and a Gray screen telling me to press send to restore.... Which is all good, but there's no progress or any thing to indicate that i've done something by pressing the send button.(based on cell phone standards, I'm assuming "send" is the green "call" button.
Is this normal?
No yeah.. he gave me the G1.. its mine. I just need to fix the little bugger.. .. well.. then laugh at him
Ok.. one more day (well ok.. couple hours) of fiddling with this thing, and i'm begining to wonder if Microsoft was involved. I'm not able to get this poor G1 to do anything new. I tried using a different SD card, hoping perhaps the one I got with it was bad... no dice. camera + power doesn't do anything useful.
I can connect it to the PC.. but i can't see the data card that way. adb devices reads no output, so its not correctly attaching to the PC (tried Windows 7 32bit, and Windows XP 64bit).. There's gotta be a good way to force a known good image onto this silly thing.
Is it probable that the internal memory has gotten corrupt somehow? I know someone out there's got the golden suggestion, please do tell if you do. I'd really like to use this phone.
--Rob
If you can get into fast boot (the tri color screen) there are ways to flash it... try getting into your tri color, then plugging in the USB cable and see if it switches from Serial 0 to USB at the bottom, if so you are golden to flash using the fast boot method.
There are guides around on how exactly to do that, as well a couple places that you can download the official RUU that will do all the hard work for you!
gah.. nothing doing. I can hit Back and Home, and end up with the tri-color screen for about 1/5th of a second, then a gray screen saying:
This operation will delete all your personal data, and reset all settings to manufacturer default. Press Send to restore manufacturer default, or press other keys to cancel.
At this point, the unit is dead. I can remove the battery, and continue on my little quest.. but hitting *any* key at all (including the Send key) will not produce any sort of output. I've tried pressing Send one time, then setting the phone down for a full hour (watched a netflix show) nothing. I can't power it off either w/o removing the battery.
I would throw in the towel.. but from all the research i've been doing, it seems as if this one is behaving in a manner in which other forum users havne't posted. Maybe by continuing to try options and post results, a positive outcome will come out, and someone else who has a G1 behaving this way will have an easier time.
... or y'all can tell me that its toast and to bugger off.. ha ha.. either way.. I continue to google. If you can think of anything, please toss it out.
OH!.. tried an RUU.. found one called. RhodiumSPLRelocker Looks promising.. but can't see the device when attached to the PC... yeah.. guess the phone has to have a functioning OS before that will happen...
You would want a Dream RUU... I looked around a bit and couldn't find one. Maybe someone has a quick link?
Double check that your SD card is formatted FAT32 and see if you can get ADB to see it when on that greay screen.
I've formatted the SD card in FAT32 multiple times.. I even questioned if my Windows 7 32bit would do it, and formatted it on a laptop running XP 64bit. adb doesn't seem to see it ever.
I don't get why I can't get it into fast boot. I've been looking on ebay for dream G1s with broken screens.. heh.. I guess i'm preparing for the worst. really sad, becasue this G1 was actually pretty well taken care of. My friend didn't do anything he shouldn't. HE woke up one morning and it was like this. He lives out in the country.. so he gets pretty spotty signal. I'm wondering if T-Mobile didn't push out an update, and it got interrupted by signal loss.
By the by... I've been doing all this work w/o a SIM card. Does that matter?

its not the green send button -- its the red end button
see below extracted from http://theunlockr.com/2009/07/05/how-to-unroot-your-t-mobile-g1/
Load the DreaIMG.nbh File
1. Download the Original DreaIMG.nbh file:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XXSQ0T7W
2. If the file downloaded above downloads as a .Zip file, please unzip it first then put the DreamIMG.nbh file that is inside on the SD card, NOT in any folder. (If you did Section I the phone is off still, take out the memory card, put it in the MicroSD adapter and plug it into your computer to transfer the file over, since your G1 won’t turn on right now if you did Section I above. Otherwise if you did not need to do Section I above, then you can just put it on the SD card normally using the usb cable and the phone).
3. Turn the phone off if it is on.
4. Turn on the phone by holding the Camera button and the End key until the bootloader screen turns on.
5. Hit the End key to start the update. DO NOT INTERUPT THIS PROCESS.
6. Once it is done, hit the trackball to restart the phone. You now are on the stock firmware RC29

You mention that you can access fastboot by pressing the back button while turning it on, isn't that how the hero gets into fastboot? maybe your friend tried flashing a rom that was meant for the hero. if you have access to fastboot you should be able to flash a new image from there, just place the image file in the root of your card and follow the fastboot instructions
Also if fastboot isn't doing it for you have you tried adb? if you don't know what that is look it up I've seen a couple guides on how to do it and they are really detailed.

another app2SD thing after flashing a new rom?
well then you know more then me. If you can get into bootloader you should be able to get into recovery mode. You can also toggle USB mode, so you can be connected to your comp. In that case you can push a recovery image.

you can also wipe
etc
its all in that thread or somewhere else on this forum

Any updates? same thing happened to me.
If in doubt then reflash everything again;
boot
system
and recovery
and start afresh.
see thats the thing,, i can click recovery from the bootloader screen and nothing happens. It will restart and just sit on the same "X" screen. Its very simple to put a phone into a DFU mode or recovery mode for Iphones,Motorolas, blackberry, nokia, samsung,Lg, and a few more i cant think of at the moment. When these phones become corrupt ive learned how to whatever firmware or software i want on dumb thing.. But this HTC is giving me a hard time and i know its something simple.. Most phones have a desktop software that will allow you to mess with phones programming, Itune-iphone/Blackberry-BB desktop Manager/motorola-RSD lite....ect. BUt i cannot find anything really for the HTC or just this N1. A lot of these programs for other brands, once you plug your phone in, will notice that the phone is in a recovery state and offer to do an update or a restore. Now why doesnt the N1 or do they, does google offer something like evryone else does?

The SDK can do that
like the others said, try get into recovery and reflash everything
SDK? i just turned the phone on and its stuck on the "Splash" screen just a big ol "X". I press volume down and power and pull up the bootloader menus.. i scroll down to recovery and press enter. and it reboots and stays at the damn "x" screen again. I've chosen everyone of the options it offers in that menu and nothing changes.. You know how when u first open that menu it will scan the SD card? Well it shows up for a second then goes away, and in the split second the green lettering is on the screen i swear it says "no splash image" or something like that. UHHHHhhhg!
Hmm I forgot how to get to get to recovery using physical buttons, sth like: power + trackball, or volume down + trackball i guess, so try that
So it looks like your phone is not rooted and you don't have Amon_Ra recovery maybe you have not even turned on USB debugger? tough luck friend
All is not lost if you can get into fastboot mode trackball and power together then using adb reflash boot, system and recovery images.
Or call Customer Service and trade in for a new Nexus One
if not you have to download the SDK http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html

agreed....if you haven't "unlocked" the bootloader then i wouldn't bother with any of the suggestions....Call customer care and get a new one before you un-lock it and this mysteriously happens again...THEN, you'll be S-O-L!!
EDIT: Then with the new one, follow all the threads for un-locking, flashing recovery, nand, flash cyan, flash gapps LALALA
DOUBLE EDIT: Althought it sounds all you've done is messed up the recovery image, which you could re-flash. Then you could get into recovery and flash Cyan, having a functioning phone again
1st of all i want to apologize for my bad english .
Few hours ago i had installed this rom, it was just fine, until i applied the app2sd option from SupSetupV16 application. After that my phone turned off with no reason and from then it restarts again and again. I've tried with an sdcard with ext3 & fat32 partition (cuz the app2sd option in this rom requires it, but i didn't saw it earlier, and my phone has no s-off) and the phone loaded the start animation of the rom, than turned off and all over again. The battery level was almost 50% just before the 1st restart, and now the phone is in the charger. The phone does not receive any command from the hardware buttons, just cant enter the recovery mode .. i feel rly fckd up. No volume up + power, volume down, back + power .. nothing. I'll charge it all night and try again in the morning. Somehow im smelling the service ...
i think you got loop because the phone is reading wrong data.
ok... do you have ClockworkMod backup your stuff already? you can unplug your phone from the usb, if it have been boot loop from just now. poor phone. you can disconnect it from the battery. now its totally off. hold Vol - and power on your device. then on the menu, go to recover... the red [!] screen... From what i've know, i can only go to recovery using these combination from the phone is in OFF state. not while its loop booting, and it is somewhat safe to remove your battery when the phone is not writing something to the internal memory.
if you have ClockworkMod, you can run the update.zip (the fake Flash) or if you have hack4Legend (cant remember if this the name on the pc download as i dont use this anymore) plug in your usb to the pc and run Recovery.bat if your windows.
then your on ClockworkMod. from here onward i guess you know what to do. go flash a new rom or do a wipe the data and stuff to see of the loop stops.
hope this worked for you as this is what i did... for a few times already.
If this dont work for you. then you should try the search button for boot loop.
Oh, man .. u're awesome. On turned off phone .. volume - and than power is working fine and the fastboot menu appears. You're awesome, again! Thanks alot!
I think it's very hard to actually brick a HTC Legend... I've had this problem too and some other black screen problems. All could be solved!
Lol, I think as android are hard to kill. Really... not just our legend. But rest too.... I personally poisoned my friends to get android phones so that I get to play with them. Showing them how much these phone can do... and if you root them youll get more cool stuff! lol..
But, anyway. I'm glad it workd for you.

Hi, i got a problem with my 10:1 tab. Today i tried to install honeycomb rom using clockworkmod recovery and after the installation and rooting my tab there was a question should flash boot be fixed because the new one will replace other without going back so new flash and root from honeycomb could take it place and i said no to fixing it, second after my tab went off black and it not reacting to anything including trying to power on and get into recovery mode and i tried to push all the buttons and nothing works. Odin doesnt recognize the tab and if i plug it to charger or pc there is no response. The only thing i realized is i heard a plug in usb sound when i connect tab to pc and try to pull the power on button for like 5 seconds i hear plug in and second later plug out usb sound. What can i do to make it works again? I cannot give it to guaranty and all i can do is by myself
Send it to Samsung for a repair.
i cant, i have no guarantee all i can do is by myself, what can i do?
Did you try to hold power button a little longer ? Like 10 or 30sec. This works for some devices

Pull back cover off (use google to figure out how to do so), unplug battery for a few seconds. Plug battery back in. Press and hold power + vol down to try to get into ODIN.
There is no honeycomb rom for these tabs. What did you try to install? Link me.
Holding power button gives nothing, i tried ever combination for a couple minutes and not working. I tried to remove battery yesterday but it was connected via cables and there was no way to remove it without cutting out cables as far as i seen, if anyone can know how i can remove battery then let mw know because i can't find anything ever the internet. I downloaded HoneyVillain_1.2 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138115. I tried to plug tab to charger today but after 10 hours it didn't worked at all, still got black screen with no reaction to buttons ;/
Hello
bad news - I killed my P5100 2 months ago and I can't repair it. I have same problem - I can hear plug on / plug off sound in Windows. But i have installed drivers and found that this is OMAP4430 device was connected/disconnected each time. And I can't do anything with my Tab.
I have took my Tab to official Samsung service and I've received answer that it is not repairable - only full replacement of internal board possible, and it costs 300$.
And I have tried to unofficial services and they tells me what my problem. Bootloader was corrupted and device can't start. So it is impossible to repair bootloader because it is protected in Galaxy Tab 2 and they proposed me to replace internal flash memory chip.
So I have dead Tab and wait for ability to programmatically repair my Tab
You can see my thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1908949, maybe it will be helpful for you

Holding power button gives nothing, i tried ever combination for a couple minutes and not working. I honestly believe that the Rom you downloaded is for the acer ionica!
See xda has created separate forums for each phone because you can't use one phones rom for another! Yet you flashed that!
There s nothing you can do other than sending your phone for repair!

Ok so i installed wrong rom for my tab right? Is there something i can do to repair it by myself?

No. Its a paper weight now and you could have prevented this by reading.
If you can't get it into Download Mode, then the only options are to send it to Samsung to fix it, or find some loose papers.
Hey guys, thanks for the answers so far I would like to know if every type of tablet brick can be unbricked? I mean if there is no brick that couldn't be unbricked by using cables and garage methods

I don't know how much support you'll get to follow this method but if nothing else will work it's worth a try.
As far as this tablet being unbrickable, that's only true if you don't intentionally flash something that was made for a completely different tablet...

Well that's the point, I flashed with rom made for different tablet and it's dead now My question was if any brick could be repaired if i'll give it to someone with all the right tools to resurrect it, or there are certain bricks that can't be repaired no matter what tools and skills the person who attempt it have?

Check my post again for the link as that's the only method that shows up on Google search for this tab.
does odin recognize your tablet?
Is it a tab 2. In your op it just said tab 10:1. Not tab 2. Just making sure as this is the tab 2

I might be able to help u
Alright i had the problem recently and heres what i did to fix it If you can get into download mode ur all good from there. To get into download mode hold the power button and up on the volume rocker, if u get a message saying flashing roms is dangerous blah blah blah then press down on the volume rocker to enter download mode. Odin will recognize it if its in download mode, also what model is ur galaxy tab? Also if its a 10 inch model GT5113 i have the stock rom file for it so i could send it to u
Some helpful Info
Maybe you should have said yes? because after all you can't be too carefull , maybe there was something wrong with the rom. If the system asks you if you want to fix ALWAYS say YES. You should have said yes. Why did you say no ?! all right now to the fixing part. PLEASE NOTE I'M NOT AN EXPERT IN ROOTING BUT I'LL GIVE IT A GO. I think that if you can, then power it up and press the VOLUME UP key while holding the power button. From the menu choose recovery and factory reset your device. If it's possible reset rom to default. It should work if not then Post a reply saying not and I'll see what else can be found. Hold on tight for now! There is a Optional thing you can do if the above doesn't work: that is, if possible, you can un-root your tablet with an app from the market. If all of the above is impossible to do, and you cant even power your tab on, it's as useful as a brick, a black screen. Then I'm afraid it's a hard brick fopr you, boyo.

Sorry for my previous post, didn't read the whole forum! Stupid me! ok now there are only two types of brick. Soft brick and hard brick. Soft brick can be fixed, Hard brick - Not quite. And as you said, you flashed a rom for a different tab, maybe thats a compatibility issue. If you want a new os, honeycomb to be exact. You can always upgrade, just search 'honeycomb upgrade'.
So i was trying the new beta for PA android and when i was on recovery wiping as usual, the wipe process just froze there for a while, i decided to leave it till it worked again but to no avail it didnt budge at all, so i commited the ultimate sin, and powered it off by holding the power button...
when i tried again tu turn it on the tablet would go thru the google with the padlock screen and then show me a black screen with a little logo of clockworkmod and a version number below, the screen itself has no use since no matter what button i press it does nothing, other than that the tablet keeps rebooting after that.
when i try any combination of buttons to access either the real recovery or the bootloader the tablet just plain ignores that im trying to turn it on, just doesnt work, it just turns on if im not pressing anything besides the power button.
to sum up to all my problems i would love to keep trying and see if at anypoint it will turn to bootloader, i havent seen the notification of the tablet being charged... meaning that i dont know if it has enough battery to last me the remaning ideas i had.
So in a nutshell
-no bootloader
-no fastboot
-no recovery
-cant tell if battery or not
Please if anyone knows how to fix or at least get me to a bootloader i would fix everything else, but i really need the guidance here
Have you tried another charger and cable? A simple idea, but not one to over look.
Without bootloader menu or recovery, not much you can do. I'd work on getting into one of those first. Not much you can do until then.

Are you able to get adb to recognize the device with "adb devices"?

Yeah ive tried 4 other chargers, and nothing new, i know that the os itself takes care of the charging as does the recovery in some cases, but since i have non i dont know if its gonna charge at all or not and trying doesnt sound really appealing since i should save battery in case theres a solution and needs battery power
but thanks for the answer

Dont really know how to check, i mean i could get into the tools and try the command Adb Devices but how should i even begin to test? i mean shouldnt i be in a adb static platform on the device? if i try to get into bootloader it just doesnt turn on, and when it does it goes straight to the black screen with the clockworkmod symbol and numbers
Thanks for the answer

if you have enough battery and can get pc to see is thru adb. you may be able to fastboot a new rom onto the device. You can from pc Request device to go into bootloader or fast boot from the PC..
This is your only shot.. I Would suggest borrow a friends Nexus 7 Full Battery . If you do not know how to do any of this . Use skips root kit and use the unbrick or factory reset. it will force your device into fast boot and flash a new rom.
Good Luck

yeh i know how to use the skip toolkit, yet i hope i have enough battery for the test, because the only friend that i know owns a nexus 7 left the country a few months back, so the battery sounds like its gonna be hard to get. Anyways, as u were saying theres a posibility that while the tablet is rebooting and rebooting it might be able to be found on the adb devices? and use the fastboot, cuz if thats true u would be the hero ive been waiting for...
imma check and tell u later,
thanks for the answer
