I was upgrading my G1's RC29 to GingerYoshi and came upon this problem in the install process.
fastboot flash hboot hboot-1.33.0013d.img
sending 'hboot' (512 KB)... OKAY
writing 'hboot'... FAILED (remote: partition does not exist)
I found this in the forums as a solution but couldn't comment on it because I have less than 10 posts....so here's my first. The solution below totally works. A big "Thank you, thank you" to lbcoder.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=479687&page=2
That is because the 0.95.x000 SPL's do not have the hboot partition mapped.
You need to do one of two things;
1) Recovery-update to 1.33.2003 (note the "3". This is NOT a "5".) -- the "2003" spl has the hboot partition mapped.
2) ERASE your recovery partition (and test that it is erased by trying to boot into recovery -- it should boot into FASTBOOT), and then recovery-update to whatever SPL you prefer. I know, this sounds impossible -- just how do you boot recovery if your recovery is empty? By "fastboot boot recovery.img".
Either of these approaches should be fine.

ok
men...rigth now I'm using radio 23.02 with hardspl signed..and the phone are not brick and fastboot mode works fine (before not work and the pc don't detect nothing and now with this the pc detect adb ect.ect.)
but I dont have a rom that work..all the roms I have dont work...is there any rom to work with the radio and spl above?..will be good..any url
dont tell me to flash again newer spl ( the radio I accept but the spl is the preoblems))..
I guess I'm still not following fully, but each ROM has specific requirements, some one radio/SPL and some another. You need to match your ROM or at least kernel to your radio/SPL
If you boot to bootloader and write down everything from that screen I can suggest a ROM or two that will work

this is the info from the recovery-
DREAM100 pvt 32b
HBOOT-0.95.0000
cpld-4
RADIO-1.22.12.29
now I have the 1.5 stock update..and if I flash to this update ,all is the same in fastboot ,the only change is the radio to .261 and I can't find the undate 1.6 stock,,I dowloaded that but the zip is coruupted ..
I like this phone (qwerty, touch, android, and ((old good to hack yea)) and is the first android phone in the world..
the others android phones are the son's from this....
how I can push pictures here of my android from my computer???
and I can create post here??
That info is from bootloader screen, this is good now I know your next steps
Can you boot to recovery and let me know which one you have? The one you want is Amon_ra1.7
After you have this you will need to update your radio then SPL, once done flash a ROM (like cm5) to test. After this you need to flash another radio then SPL and then you can flash a gingerbread ROM.
So first we need to confirmed which recovery you have....

when I try to install spl from fastboot or terminal emulator , they say me( error hboot partition doesn't exist) I tryed install teh solution here in this post ( flash 203 spl) but they brick again the phoen
and thas all .whats is tthe real solution for this
Well from your pics I'm guessing you flashed a clockwork recovery, you should try amonra, use the same flash_image method to get this.
Once you have this recovery installed boot to it and there is where you flash the first radio.zip and then the hard/danger SPL.zip
Once this is done you can boot to bootloader to confirm which radio and SPL you are on, if all is good you then can either boot to recovery and flash a compatible ROM (like cm5) or if you want something newer you then need to another radio and SPL with fastboot in order to get an 'updated' ROM
As for fastboot not working, this is either an error in the command (can't say unless you post input/output from cmd/terminal) or you don't have access to fastboot commands with current bootloader.

I HAVE AMOn RA ... I only change but yes i flash to amonra ,,I use amonra ..I used the clock recovery beacuse it have the option to navigate in the sd card..(amno ra does not have that..)
ok look..whaterever radio work..but with the only spl work is te hard spl signed..and when I go into fastboot the screen is white and the fastboot work fine ,the phone not shut down,,that is evidence that work ,,gooodd..
but only that..radio( 23.02,,27.08,) and (hard spl) thast all ,, now i want a rom that work with this ,,there are any rom?? because I can't flash any radio or any spl in .img format BEACUSE I get: hboot partition does not exist ....
roms please
hnote: the cm5 require danger spl,,mmm can cm5 wok with "hard spl signed" ??
Danger SPL is the same as hard SPL, just different words for the .2500 SPL (can't recall the exact # its been a while)
If you want help getting fastboot to work you will need to copy and paste here all input/output from terminal/cmd, the error you are getting is caused by typing in the wrong command or not have elevated privileges, if you want further help just do these quick simple things
Write down everything that is currently on bootloader (yes the white screen with the androids on skateboards, write down word for word)
Then we can make sure which radio and SPL to download through fastboot next, and when you do this copy and paste all input/output here
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
ok
danger spl is the same as hard spl hee¡¡ good..
well I now about comands, su #
ok I have the radio 22.22.23.02 and hard spl.
this is I have in the fastboot screen:
DREAM100 pvt 32b
HSPLD 10.95.3000
CPLD-4
RADIO-2.22.23.02
oct 20 2008
FASTBOOT or SERIAL 10 and the androis are there in skateboards,,I wana psuh pictures here but the internet is bad..
so...wich is the next step...
OK, current radio is good but you have the old hard SPL, you need the .2003 or .2005
Check the link I sent you earlier for downloads or if you need I can get you a link
So your next step is to change to one of these two SPLs
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
ok I get it...
I has benn dowloaded..so i goin to try
I wana show you some pictures..this pictures are before..
that dastboot screen is the only boot option i have when the phone be brick....and look the other picture is the error when I try to flash IMG files
ok I'm goin to flash the nwer spl that you gave me previously..
NO WORK:: THE PHONE HAS BRIKED AGAIN::: if I CAn only have the hboot partition..I think thas is the big problem but there is no sulotion anywhere...so what I can do??
You can't use a terminal emulator to flash the bootloader (hboot bootloader and SPL are the same term here) you must flash through fastboot
I don't know what you mean when you say bricked, a bricked phone is one that won't turn on at all, no recovery, no bootloader, no os, no anything, only recoverable by JTAG
With the old hard SPL you need flash the .2003 or 2005 through recovery as you don't have fastboot options
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
YES that phone has been briked as 7 or 9 or 10 times
but i goin it back wen It briked,,when i try to power up..they only power up and show the white screen and quicly shut down (has millisecons) .thats when I try to enter in recovery they do again the same (white screen and quicly shut down) ..in fastboot again the same too...thats is the brick...but I found a tip I hold the camera button for large time (like 10 minutes or more) and they in rare time get it on fastboot but the other fastboot ( to recovery the phone flashing DREAM.IMG )..
I FOUND A MISTAKES WHEN I have that brik..
.I haved that brick recently ,but I press ( home+menu+power without releasing the buttons ) and from the recovery briked (yes the recovery are briked too) the phone restart and power up without the briked screen ,,it go into g1 logo...so right now I'm goin to try flash the radio, spl, spl again etc,etc.. and if it brick again I now what to do...maybe skip that brick and enter directly to the phone..
Well if you flash the dreaming.nbh and go back to android 1.0 then just use flash_image in a telnet to install amonra
Then flash appropriate radio from recovery
Then flash .2003 SPL or .2005
From here you will have fastboot commands and can upgrade to ezterrys 2708+ update
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
HEY MEN FINALY I FOUND A SOLUTION::
not ot all but yes it work...
ok look my steps:
from the original rom android 1.0 ( no moded)
1- you need root acces (super one click and bypass google method)
2-install amon RA recovery--is easy
3-from recovery RA flash the radio 23.02
4-now wihtout reset flash the hardspl (the old you say I have)
5-you are into recovery again,so flash the spl 2003....when it finish NOT REBOOT,,DONT GET OUT FROM RECOVERY..sorry the big words
6-now from there flash: update-cm-5.0.8-DS-signed :that is the rom YOU RECOMEND ME::BY THE WAY THANKS
7-when it finish .rebbot..but when I rebbot the phone be briked..I told you remenber (the white screen show only milliseconsd and the phone quicly shutdown..but now I have the solution..
8-with the phone off go into recovery ( there in recovery I see only one option and is clear storage....well DON'T CLEAR) press SEND+MENU+POWER without release the keys..and wait for the phone power up..REMENBER DON'T RELEASE THE KEYS and thats all you will see the G1 BOOT SCREEN logo....at this you can release the kes UFFF ..THIS IS A MISTAKE ..BUT WORK YEA:.
the only problem is when you powerup the phone you neerd to do this method..(send+menu+power at the same time) this is awful but from weeks of battle I think this is the best way I see in this phone..
hey men thanks for your help ...............can I update to cyanogenmod 6 or 7 ? or another from OTA from this phone you know wifi 3g etc..???
here are some pictures from my new phone updated...
hey this rom don't have file manager..

As you can see above I have the engineering SPL but I am unable to flash via fastboot gives me the not verified error. I previously was stuck in a reboot loop which I finally got out by creating a goldcard and using 2.53.707.2_-_sappimg.zip. I am able to use the phone but thats about it. There is no access to sd card I have tried numerous cards and they don't work.
From Inside the Phone:

Build Number: 2.53.707.2 146733 CL#37318 test-keys
---------------------------------
I would like to thank anyone in advance for their help. I have searched and been searching the forums for 2 days non-stop usually its stated that you need an Engineering SPL (which I guess I am already using) can't downgrade because I have no access to sdcard either. Please help........
Try going here and grabbing the sappimg from there, load it onto your goldcard, and flash it from hboot the same way you did the first time. There's another guy I was working with on here that tried to use the same engineering SPL and it didn't work, but I don't know if he ever tried that one. The sappimg I'm referring you too is the same one I used when I rooted my phone. Give it a shot and let us know back here.

another reason it might not be working is becuz your doing 'fastboot flash flash"
which if correct it should be 'fastboot flash hboot'

Sorry wasn't around. Thank you for responding.
Your right I was not using HBOOT but it didn't make a difference I still get the verification error using fastboot.
As you suggested I should try updating using recovery but like I said the SDcard is not detected. I used the "fastboot -c board_sapphire.disable_sdcard=0 boot recovery...*" and it detected the sd card when I try to update the using the zip file it gets stuck at Opening update package....
Any other options?
i think i brick my phone...how when i power on,it only keeps on boot into htc magic...so is there any think i can do or?
Please can you provide more info.

its because of the perfected spl right?
From what I can see, with my limited experience, either you left out a part after "s-on", or your phone thinks its neither HTC nor google.
It should say S-ON H
And I dont think that 0007 is perfected.

How did you get this info....
I don't believe that rom-manager has the power to **** up your fastboot.
Recovery and system, maybe - but not fastboot.

Write it down here or take a picture or what ever...

Similar Issue
Hey Guys and Girls,
This is my first time posting on this site. I have run into a similar issue and have attempted to post on numerous sites without having any luck solving the problem.
The quick version: I ran z4root to root my phone; it said successful. I then installed Rom Manager and switched my recovery to Clockwork (the most recent one). Next I downloaded the latest CM6 from the Rom Manager with GApps. After having unsuccessful attempts at backing up and wiping first, I decided to try installing the Rom without backing up or wiping data. The Rom install worked this time (I got installation successful). However, when the phone rebooted itself, it never got past the Rogers screen. It is now in a constant state of rebooting until I pull the battery.
I can get to fastboot, but cannot get to the recovery screen. My HTC Magic 32A specs from the fastboot menu are:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT-1.76.0010 (SAP50000)
CPLD-12
RADIO-6.35.16.19
Some other info that may help:
-my PC recognizes my phone (I have been trying the Radio Switcher v.GUI 4.1 and it says the phone is connected) but it is not allowing me to flash anything.
-When I try "adb devices" it gives error: no device attached but "fastboot devices" gives me a number.
-I have tried putting "recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0H" on my sdcard, but the HBoot says no image or wrong image
-The Radio Switcher v.GUI 4.1 says my phone is not rooted
-I tried the goldcard method of rooting, but because I can't get the phone to recognize the sdcard, I can't get a proper CID for the goldcard creator
Hopefully I've provided enough info to get some help. I am waiting patiently, but am starting to get sick of the old Sony Ericsson Anything helps!

You have to make a goldcard... if you can't make it using your device, then do it using any other android device.
When you have made the goldcard come back here, and i'll guide through the rest :0)
Done. I made a gold card previously...hopefully it still works. Once it's made into a goldcard, is it always a goldcard?
Actually... re-checking your info - you don't need a goldcard..
No need for sdcard either...
Download this sappimg.zip :
http://rapidshare.com/files/437924840/sappimg.zip
Then run this command from a command prompt:
Code:
fastboot flash zip sappimg.zip
Make sure that the sappimg.img is in the same folder as fastboot.exe
The sappimg.zip is the newest rogers update... the same version as you currently have...
No need for goldcard or anything :0)
if you get any troubles, then post here the outcome of the command prompt..
When all is done, you should be back on stock 2.1...
From there you follow my guide (check my signature) to root and get custom recovery.
Good luck

I had the same problem as a few of you and after trying everything I eventually decided to try installing SAPPIMG.zip from hboot and it worked fine. Took me a while to find the correct SAPPIMG but you should be able to find it on the forums here. You have to put the SAPPIMG.zip on the root of your SD card from your computer, put it in the phone, boot into fastboot and go into hboot and it'll load the SAPPIMG file. If you have the wrong SAPPIMG it'll usually give you an error when trying to install it'll say someting like update failed or wrong device ID. It took me about 4-5 different SAPPIMG to find the correct one for my phone.

Hmm... try this:
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
The above will set the device into RUU mode.
Then download the official rogers RUU..
Run it and it should install just fine... no need for goldcard or sdcard..
I hope this will work.

Hey,
I just wanted to say I appreciate all the time you are putting in to helping me. I just did the RUU install, but once it gets to the updating signature part I get:
ERROR [132]: SIGNATURE ERROR
The ROM Update Utility cannot update your android phone.
Hi,
I have a tmobile mytouch 3g 1.2 (3.5mm jack phone). I tried to root my phone and it failed during the SYSTEM---UnZipping process. (it stuck there forever). I then looked at options of unrooting it. When I apply SAPPIMG.zip it says Main Version Older! Update Fail!
Then I reboot the phone in recovery mode (tried to reset to factory settings and then reboot). The phone gives me the below error upon startup. The only thing i can see is an notification bar.
the process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. "FORCE CLOSE"
Please can someone help me how to get my phone working? Appreciate all your help!
If you go to tmobile.com then go to there forum under android development you will see a topic called how to unroot the mytouch. In that topic they have a link for the original sappimg .. download to your zip cars in the root of the card (no folders) then just boot into hboot and apply the sappimg. I have done it many times so I know it works. Then when you go to root your just us the universal androot method. Feel few to pm me i
ent from my HTC Magic using XDA App
Type this in fastboot:
Code:
fastboot getvar version-main
Then we can try to see if we can update it.
If not, you can always try to flash RUU.
The system starts, that's a good thing -> you have adb access!
Just don't go around and flash all kind of sapphire.nbh/zip...
Wait intil you have the right info :0)
I have had this problem and solved it. I would either get this acore stopped working error or just a loop in the boot screen. I think what caused this is there is not enough internal room for the ROM and gapps. Make sure you wipe everything. Do you have a nandroid backup? Can you get into recovery? Which recovery do you have installed? Do this, make a goldcard. Use fastboot to reroot the phone because you may have halfway unrooted it and made root useless. Boot into recovery and wipe. Install from sd any MyTouch ROM without Gapps. This should get you into the OS and now you can use other methods of getting your phone back. When I got here I used nandroid backup to get my phone back to a date it was when it worked and have had no problems since.

i did not take any nandroid backup ...i got into revovery boot...but whn i did the wipe clean option and reboot i get this error.
to make a gold card i would need to have the USB debugging enabled right? I am not able to go past the error screen (Home does not work, settings does not work )
and when i run the adb devices command, it does not display my devices. (But i have the number noted down when i tried to root the phone which failed...)
is there any other way to enable the USB Debugging as I am not able to open settings or even see anything on my phone...?
Would there be any option that's something like doing a System Restore to an earlier date on Windows OS on the computer?
please let me know the next steps...appreciate all of your help...
It's driver related.
Fix the drivers and try again to run the commands.

You mean re-install the USB drivers for mytouch 3g? i tried that but still nothing happens...
Well you have to...
In fastboot mode this command shall give you the device nr .
Code:
fastboot devices
If not, the drivers are still bad!
You could also try to do a HARD RESET from hboot ( volume - together with power)...

OK....
Let's get the facts right.
You tried to root with wrong guide.
The sapphire.zip/nbh image you used if for the 32A.
How do i know that ?
Well the main version nr tells me that you have flashed this:
2.53.707.2 SEA WWE test-signed (from this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=659403)
That's why you have troubles!
The solution....
I need all your fastboot info.. ALL.
Then i can figure out what to do. Or else i will work in the dark...

Yes...
You have the right radio/spl combo. That's good.
The problem is that your main version is set to high.
If you try to flash any RUU for the 1.2 magic, you will get main-version older error...
Even if you use a goldcard.
Do you still have access to adb?
Even for a little... then we can flash a custom recovery and get the system back.
Even if your system don't start up... as long you can boot more then 20 sec and you don't get reboots.
If not, then we have to flash a 32A sappimg.zip using a goldcard.
From there we flash custom recovery. Then eng spl. Then flash system, boot, userdata. Then flash the 1.2 spl... Then we are done :0)
So it's a long one... but first test if we have adb access.
Code:
adb devices

Maybe it's driver related...

THnaks for your help, here is the info:
cid: ROGER001!rhL
version-main: 3.54.631.3
Download this:
https://rapidshare.com/files/2551144515/3.54.631.3Rogers.zip
And download my fastboot commander tool found in my signature ( the 1.1 version, NOT the magic version)
Use the "Full zip" tab and flash the downloaded zip file.
Follow the progress on the screen.
It should flash you back to stock.
i get this message:
###Calling fastboot with: flash zip C:\3.54.631.3Rogers.zip###
sending 'zip' (110447 KB)... FAILED (remote: not allow)
finished. total time: 0.004s
Rename the file to SAPPIMG.zip
Put on a clean sdcard
Start in hboot mode (press and hold volume - and power. '-' means decrease)
The system should pick it up...
If that also fails, then something is wrong.
doesnt work. picks the file uploads and then says checking .... and then goes back to the hboot screen without doing anything.
Check the name again...
sappimg.zip ( and not .zip.zip)
the filename is correct. only one .zip
Are there alternate sappimg versions, maybe a newer one with higher version number will work.
I was trying other sappimg files and there i use to get error, main version older.
the rom on it is 3.54.631.3
3.05.631.7 update is divided in two parts.
https://rapidshare.com/files/531578080/Rogers_3.05.631.7_pt1.zip
https://rapidshare.com/files/2608486606/Rogers_3.05.631.7_pt2.zip
The first part will flash spl, recovery and radio..
The second will flash the rest.
Rename them one by one and flash them respectively.
Just as you did with the other update.
If this does not work, then you have (maybe) a malfunctioning device.
For both the files I get the message "Main version is older"
I found an old thread where you were helping someone with a similar issue. http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-793704.html. Any idea what happened to his issue?

Hi there,
I'd like to update to a newer Android Version. So as I read I have to flash a new recovery first. I tried to create a gold card in order to flash this new recovery but I still get an error when I use fastboot.
I read several tutorials and threads in this forum but i couldn't find the right answer. I hope someone can help me.
Is there a problem with a "ScanDisk" gold card...?

You said you have a Goldcard already, right?
Also, only do this if your Magic is a 32B. If it's a 32A, you're bricked for life (and I'm not responsible). It says on the fastboot screen which you are.
If it is a 32B, get the first download from the NBH/ZIP section of this thread <a href=http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548218>here</a> (Make sure to read the warnings at the top) and put it on your normal SD card.
Then, boot into HBOOT mode by either
1. Booting into Fastboot mode and pushing volume down.
2. Booting phone with volume down pressed.
It should find the sappimg after a minute. If not, make sure the sappimg is on the SD card not in any folders and also that it's named SAPPIMG.zip.
Choose yes to all the questions. If it has an error, reboot and try again or try it on a Goldcard.
Now fastboot should work and you can do whatever.

1.33.0013 is perfected SPL, remote commands are disabled in this hboot.
If you have custom recovery (AmonRa or Clockworkmod), then you are lucky.
If not, then you must install official ROM: 3.12.531.1 T-Mobile USA FRG83D
http://www.4shared.com/file/j64ygA9t/RUU_Sapphire_T-Mobile_US_31253.html
After that, you can root phone with SuperOneClick, then install custom recovery, and custom rom (via custom recovery)
I already rooted using superone click but my phone wont boot after I tried to flash a rom how do I get it to boot up and work again I'm freaking out oh an I have clockwork recorvery image that's how I tried to flash the rom but i dont have a goldcard can i still use the same method can u give me a walk through or is there a way using clockwork mod

If you have custom recovery - just flash custom rom via it.
P.s. but choose appropriate rom (with tags 32b)
