Transformer 2 Release date! - Acer Iconia A500

Read it and weep guys, especially the projected price?
I'll wait for the new Win 8 tablets before I spend that kind of money on an ICS tab.

Ooops forgot.....it's Nov. 7th

I doubt it will be $846 here in the US. We don't pay VAT, plus prices are often inflated somewhat in the UK. I also hear there will be a 16GB model coming, so I expect that model will be somewhere around $500 in the US. I hope they don't make the mistake of pricing it out of the market, that would be silly at this juncture in the tablet wars. They also promised to have the supply/demand issues fixed this time. I have had my eye on this device and was kind of hoping to cash in some Best Buy rewards bucks when the 16GB model shows up here in stores, perhaps 1st quarter next year? Also hoping for some competition though...

I'm probably gonna rock this tablet for a long time unless value starts making android ports of their games.

tegra 3 will make me cry. I would probably switch tablets just because the tegra 3, although there isn't a maxed out tegra 2 game out there yet....
Posted from my a500 oc @ 3ghz ddr3 speed 17% boost. Taboony 2.2 Honeyvillan 2.4+ custom with ntegra fixes. 17890 cf-bench, 9000 antutu. Custom named n-Game OS v 1.2.3b.

Nice specs but personally I only use the tablet for browsing and email so the tegra 2 is fast enough. I just hope the A500 is capable of running ICS smoothly.

Well it "supposedly" will run on previous phones, so I'm guessing it won't be a problem

If the Asus Transformer 2, 32GB ships for $499 that's just the price to pay for hopping on the Kal-el bandwagon first.
Also, odd that the new, thinner Toshiba Thrive is rumored to have a TI OMAP4460 dual-core 1.5GHz processor, not quad core.

Off topic but where can I get honeyvillan Kernal for my a500 taboonay 2.2. Tegra three is going the be sick btw can't wait. My Acer will probably end up as my trucks headunit after I pick up a Tegra 3 tab

A bit tougher, as this tab will have different specs than not only ours, but the previous TF as well.

Very different hardware specs didn't stop the HTC Evo 3D from being ported to the Evo 4G.

Wow you certainly do read alot more into what pppl type than they intend don't you?
Never said it couldn't be done, just said it would be tougher than the usual port around here.
And the Evo was a ginger to ginger port, not ICS to an HC device.

Right back at ya -- I never stated or even implied that you said it couldn't be done. I simply stated a fact that was related to this same subject.
FYI, the Evo was a Gingerbread with Sense 3.0 (Evo 3D) to Froyo with Sense 1.0 (Evo 4G) port.

Sigh...
That comparison was written in June, which is also when the Gingerbread OTA was released for the Evo 4G, but it was not rootable yet and new Evo 4Gs weren't shipping with Gingerbread yet. A month prior to that we already had numerous Evo Shift ports (Gingerbread with Sense 2.X) and about the same time we got Evo 3D ports (Gingerbread with Sense 3.0) from a leaked pre-production image.
The Evo 4G model is over a year old. Gingerbread wasn't released then. It's a Froyo phone. Why you insist on attempting to correct me about a phone that I own and use is beyond me.

Available Nov 7th? Like, to buy?
*cough* bull**** *cough*
Okay maybe to, like, pre-order... Sure. I don't see it getting in anyone hands until at least Dec. I'm still sticking with 2012 though.

Froyo Tomorrow?

Froyo 2.2 Coming Soon as per Sprint!
Sprint expects to launch Android 2.2 in near future.
As work on finalizing the software is under way, Sprint expects to launch Android 2.2 in the near future. It also will be available as an upgrade on the recently launched HTC EVO 4G.
With the Android 2.2 upgrade, customers can expect improvements to include the following benefits: updates to user interface, improved EAS Support, improved browser performance, including Flash 10x Support, voice dialing over Bluetooth and application storage on external memory.
http://community.sprint.com/baw/com...t-expects-to-launch-android-22-in-near-future
Woo hoo! That means HTC is done with it and Sprint is finalizing it, it seems.

Sent from my HTC EVO 4G using Tapatalk Pro.
Very nice.
Yup finalizing hopefully means that its done and just tweaks left. I would expect to get it some time in July.
Awesome! I wonder who will release it first though, Sprint or the devs at XDA
I expected something like this as Fridays the return deadline for the first wave of Evo buyers.
Smart would be to actually HAVE Froyo out a few days before that date...like maybe in Monday expected OTA?!....as the effects are significant with Froyo.
Voice control via Bluetooth....FINALLY

HTC works fast . A Google developer said that it would take even less time to implement Sense into Froyo 2.2 since it was mainly native code that implemented into froyo. Or something like that.
As much of a naysayer as I'm going to come off as, experience (while limited) makes me think closer to end of August or early September. There's no ETA ("soon" is prety vague) and I remember how long it took to get an OS update for the Hero. That coupled with the fact that HTC hasn't released the source code to the current version (much less the new version being promised) makes me think "Soon" will be a few months (which *would* be fast for them )
yea if we set our expectations super low we can't be disappointed am i right ?

Better to be surprised by the unknown...then to be let down by what you were waiting for.
At least we won't have to wait on Sprint to fumble with a Hero and Moment version, as per their Twitter:
HTC EVO will be updated to Android 2.2; Samsung Moment & HTC Hero will not. Future devices launching w/ 2.1 will be also be updated to 2.2.

No Froyo upgrade till 10/27!!!

US Cellular is launching galaxy S on 10/27 with 2.1. It says Froyo upgrade for this device will happen later this year.
If Samsung upgrades all Galaxy S phones to 2.2 together, we won't see Froyo till 10/27.
http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010/10/06/u-s-cellular-to-offer-samsung-mesmerize-a-galaxy-s-phone/
I think, they will update them in the order they've been released.
For Epic it's mean somewhere in the middle.
still worth waiting.
Simple put, even if 2.2 exists..they are not gonna delay release to upgrade to 2.2..and they most likely won't upgrade the next day...Samsung may make 2.2 available at same time but its up to carriers when to release it with their "customizations"
Froyo will most likely be released this month where most will update at same time but does not mean all...the yae not gonna hold up a world wide release because of a few carriers.
That said since Transform has 2.2 shows that CDMA is not an issue any more so only thing that could cause delay is either 4g or TW3...

The Transform has 2.2? Its only been rumored that the Transform has 2.2, unless you can site me a reference?
Quote from the BGR post about Sprint announcing the Zio, Transform, and the Optimus S
The Samsung Transform will have a 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display (not Super AMOLED), 800 MHz processor, 0.3 megapixel front-facing camera, 3.2 megapixel rear-facing camera with LED-flash, EV-DO Rev. A and Android 2.1. We’re told the device will be upgraded to Android 2.2 shortly after launch. The phone is set to launch on 10/10/10 for $149.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate. We saw the user guide for this device leak yesterday, so no real shock here.

Transform has 2.1 when launched on 10/10. But as SGS, it will be upgradable to Froyo later this year.
CDMA has never been an issue for Froyo. I had Froyo running on Touch for 2-3 months.
What's with samsung and the slowness to get out the latest builds. The moment sat at 1.5 for ages until we finally got 2.1 when 2.2 just start rolling out.

In the first place, the OP makes the common mistake of trying to extrapolate from news about development on some other Galaxy S variant and apply that by weak inductive reasoning to the Sprint Epic 4G.
In the second place, I would be flabbergasted if Froyo is released for the Epic by 10/27, which is only 11 days from now. I have never seen any credible evidence that the Froyo rollout for the Epic platform is scheduled anywhere close to that early. So breathlessly posting "No Froyo upgrade til 10/27!!!" is just laughable all around.

3.0 is suppose to be out next month, might as well just give us that
I feel like I've been waiting for this froyo update forever. I really hope this comes at the end of October.
After that I just need:
- An official lagfix from Samsung, not complaining I think Epic is still super zippy but nice to have
- TouchWiz 3.0, well, hoping the rumors are true that we get this with the froyo update on Epic
- Bring Samsung KIES to US
Then countdown to Gingerbread!

The Transform doesn't look too impressive in person. Much smaller screen, slightly smaller device, definitely thinner though. The Transform will have 2.2 before year's end, the Epic will have it within a month. Sprint has been beta testing the 2.2 release and found some issues, making sure it releases bug free is their priority right now.

[Q] Could we get Honeycomb 3.0?

The Motorola Droid Bionic has been rumored to run Honeycomb 3.0 and from everything that I can tell the Bionic has the same screen dimensions as the Evo, 4.3inch screen. So is there any possibility that the Evo could get Honeycomb?
Engadget Droid Bionic Hands on:
http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/05/motorola-droid-bionic-hands-on/
PPCGeeks:
http://www.ppcgeeks.com/2011/01/11/...nning-android-3-0-from-our-tipster-honeycomb/
From what I've seen, Honeycomb requires a dual core processor and is currently being geared mainly towards tablets. Since we have yet to see a Gingerbread update, I would venture to say by the time Honeycomb hits, Sprint will already have an EVO successor.
Honeycomb does not require a dual core. The bionic does not run honeycomb, it runs froyo. There's very little hope of honeycomb officially landing on the EVO. Expect to flash a custom rom if you want it.

Guys...come on, we should all know by now that Google is sneaky and we won't know anything until its actually on hardware in public hands, and after that we are at the mercy of Sprint(for anything official). Will Sprint / HTC release an official Ginger Bread / Sense 2.1 ROM?

Is it even in their roadmap?
Last year, when they released the Evo, official news of Froyo was released shortly after.
But, I haven't heard anything official about Ginger Bread?
Maybe they are too busy working on the Evo 2 and maybe they are saving those for the Evo 2 so that we all can upgrade?
Speaking of Evo 2, it's March already and still no news leaks about an Evo 2?
I doubt it...I usually see htc phones get one big update and that's it. They want you to buy the the next latest and greatest htc phone when it comes out.
We are gtting the evo tab, evo 3d and nexus s 4g.
The EVO 2 was just something started by the community... who knows if it will ever actually happen.
About GB, I don't think anyone has received an update to it besides Devs phones. Some phones are gonna have it on launch...
If the EVO does get it, I kinda feel like it will be later.

True! If the "Evo 2" gets GB + Sense 2.1, it should be even easier for XDA devs to port and have Wimax working.

Sense 2.0 and android 2.3

Ok so I just saw a video of the HTC evo 3d and its awesome but I also loved the rom. That it comes with so I don't want to feel left out and I bet there's other also so by when should we suspect a good dailey driver rom ported to the evo?

Good question...depends on when the rom leaks out...probably mid June for the leak, early July for a usable rom. Not sure how usuable it would actually be though, since it's meant to run on dual-core hardware. Also, I thought they said that it was running Sense 3.0, but maybe I'm thinking of the View 4G.

Then it was the View 4G that's running Sense 3.0. I remember specifically hearing that in the video that I was watching. I think it was on Engadget, but I've watched so many hands on videos today that I'm not sure.
Edit: Actually, I'm pretty sure it was an IntoMobile hands on video.
Edit 2: Yep, she specifically says Sense 3 point 0. It has the same carousel screen flip as the E3D, so it may be using 3.0 too.
