The Motorola Droid Bionic has been rumored to run Honeycomb 3.0 and from everything that I can tell the Bionic has the same screen dimensions as the Evo, 4.3inch screen. So is there any possibility that the Evo could get Honeycomb?

From what I've seen, Honeycomb requires a dual core processor and is currently being geared mainly towards tablets. Since we have yet to see a Gingerbread update, I would venture to say by the time Honeycomb hits, Sprint will already have an EVO successor.
Honeycomb does not require a dual core. The bionic does not run honeycomb, it runs froyo. There's very little hope of honeycomb officially landing on the EVO. Expect to flash a custom rom if you want it.

Well from what I was seeing at CES was the Bionic was running 2.3 Gingerbread. I saw that with my own eyes. "Honeycomb" does not have a minimum requirement according to everyone here, but they are also saying it's designed for "tablets" they are not mentioning phones.

Guys...come on, we should all know by now that Google is sneaky and we won't know anything until its actually on hardware in public hands, and after that we are at the mercy of Sprint(for anything official). Sure we will get it, but most likely only from our great devs here. For now I am more than happy with froyo(warm RLS5) and will be upgrading as soon as sprint has a dual core handset, but defiantly keeping my Evo to play with!

If you are talking about the SE phone that had it on there then... "On the software front, that random sighting of an Arc with Android 2.4 has been put down as a simple "misconfiguration" by Sony Ericsson" - source. Though I would take it with a grain of salt.
Yeah i'm seeing that on numerous sites. I guess it's even more funny the device I got my hands on at CES was using 2.3. I checked the software version within the settings. So don't be rude, because you obviously didn't attend CES.

Honeycomb is all but done my friend. It's been seen running on tablets already and rumor has it we may even see a Honeycomb tablet next month.
Here's Google's leaked demo of Honeycomb. I'm pretty sure that's not all CG'ed.
EDIT- I can't help but notice that FroYo was released last Summer, Gingerbread released during the holidays, Honeycomb will be showing up in late winter / early spring, and Ice Cream again in the summer. Interesting!

The OS version dubbed honeycomb may be tablet only, nothing about that means that phones won't see past 3.0
Unified versions. Phone OS and tablet OS will eventually merge into a single OS.

Yeah, all signs point to Honeycomb being tablet-only. It looks like they will go to 2.4 for Ice Cream and at some point they will merge the two as muyoso mentioned.
I'll bet Google put a different team on Honeycomb then they did on Gingerbread; I'm sure they collaborated but since Honeycomb is going to split off as the Tablet branch of the Android tree, they've probably got a separate team working on all the Tablet features like sorting out app / resolution conflicts and tablet UI enhancements. Anyhow this would explain the relatively short time between launches.
From my understanding Google wants the Chrome OS on tablet and netbook. I think honeycomb is something to hold tablet people over til Chrome is ready. And Android has already jumped a lot of numbers they can easily jump 3.x and go to 4 for phones.

Chrome OS is going to get dropped or at very least put on the shelf for a while. Android is too popular for Google to abandon it at this point. Its on everything. Also, at this point chrome os is no where near ready to publicly launch for consumers. Consumers would hate the OS for the most part. It offers zero advantages over android. Also, it looks like Honeycomb is running some modified version of chrome, so I am sure chrome OS apps will work on honeycomb. Maybe it wont be natively, but if there is a reason to do it, XDA will provide.

This is my first Motorola phone and I actually hopped to ATT for the Atrix and so far, I really dont have anything bad to say.
Now that my intro is done... anyone have any insight when MOTO/ATT will push Gingerbread to the Atrix?
I'm hoping summer... what does everyone else think?
edit: when I poll for winter, its winter at the end of this year, not right now....
So far we're speculating for fall...
Hopefully with the attention that MOTO has with the Atrix and the Xoom, maybe they'll hire some extra engineers to push something by summer...
look at Milestone, they still on 2.1.
so I guess we won't get 2.3 until 2012
I really hope they upgrade directly to Ice Cream in winter, skipping Gingerbread. Ah well, hope springs eternal, as they say...
Crap in one hand and wait on gingerbread in the other, see which one gets full first.
It is bs the phone should not have been released without gingerbread.
They are already developing ginger bread. Look in dev forum. Someone had a dev dump if ginger bread at some point

Since the Atrix is a flagship dual-core, I think we'lll see it sooner rather than later. Especially since we have a Gingerbread dump in the dev forum already... that's some nice signs for a spring/summer update.
Its really interesting seeing the wide range of dates when people think we'll get it.
I would really like to see the update soon, but it doesn't look likely. It is more likely I will end up with the Galaxy S2 / iphone 5 or some new HTC phone before we see an update.

They have always been underrated(especially to Nokia in the Balkans)...and I don't understand how they are losing money on the play....
They are losing money because of their battered reputation for abandoning customers with their previous handsets. It seems like management has turned a new leaf. 2012 will probably be the now or never come back year for sony ericsson. They own like 1.7%of the market shares as of July =/ the earthquake played a big role at affecting those figures though.

Google is touting ICS as their one OS fits all design. It's extremely doubtful that it will be dual core only, considering that and A) Dual core handsets are still in their infancy B) The dual cores out there aren't really faster than the single cores. I can see ICS bringing improved support for dual core, but it's a retarded business decision for Google to cut out single core phones. Even the latest version of windows doesn't do that.
Also, who cares what Sony says, the developers on here will ensure that if we really want ICS on our phones we will be able to.

It won't just be for dual core as they have to deliver it to the NS and that's single core. I had the X10 and waited ages for the 2.1 update only to be dissatisfied because of how slow and laggy it was, still custom ROM's made up for SE's crap.

Its based on honeycomb correct? Can anyone name 1 tablet that has a single core and runs honeycomb natively?
Nook Color, if I recall properly. It uses the very same Honeycomb as "native" tablets.
Plus, I want to remind you that dual cores are still top of the line. The midrange and low range of new devices (think of Optimus Sol or Galaxy Ace) will have to be updated too...
Read it and weep guys, especially the projected price?
I'll wait for the new Win 8 tablets before I spend that kind of money on an ICS tab.

I doubt it will be $846 here in the US. We don't pay VAT, plus prices are often inflated somewhat in the UK. I also hear there will be a 16GB model coming, so I expect that model will be somewhere around $500 in the US. I hope they don't make the mistake of pricing it out of the market, that would be silly at this juncture in the tablet wars. They also promised to have the supply/demand issues fixed this time. I have had my eye on this device and was kind of hoping to cash in some Best Buy rewards bucks when the 16GB model shows up here in stores, perhaps 1st quarter next year? Also hoping for some competition though...
I'm probably gonna rock this tablet for a long time unless value starts making android ports of their games.

If the Asus Transformer 2, 32GB ships for $499 that's just the price to pay for hopping on the Kal-el bandwagon first.

That comparison was written in June, which is also when the Gingerbread OTA was released for the Evo 4G, but it was not rootable yet and new Evo 4Gs weren't shipping with Gingerbread yet. A month prior to that we already had numerous Evo Shift ports (Gingerbread with Sense 2.X) and about the same time we got Evo 3D ports (Gingerbread with Sense 3.0) from a leaked pre-production image.

I have seen first hand proof of this working. I had an evo 3d. Htc decided all futre devices would have locked bootliaders well that made alot of people angry. Someone posted a thread on xda suggesting we let htc know that is not gna fly. So it turnd out thousands of people got on there facebook wall and twitter. Guess what the next day htc released a statement saying that they wanted too keep there coustamers happy and that the bootloader would be unlocked. They were. Id like to be able too have a device and not have too get a new one juzt because moto or htc or sammy wants too put them out constantly get people too buy them and then ditch them and out out another. The atrix is 100 percent capable of runing ics and theres no excuae for it l not too recieve it just because moto wants people too buy new devices every couple months. I know many many people feel the same way well as i said we have the power too change that if people would stop bickering and take it seriously. And also if moto started supporting devices longer not just bug fixes but the new android flavors. Id definately make my next device a moto it would do nothing but benefit them
try and get as many people as you can too do the same. It will make a difference.
I'd wait until ICS is released. As things stand today, Atrix has the latest Android version available.

I mean wtf... look how much flak they got from every moron in the world when the Atrix was still running Froyo.

They got tons of flak for promising gingerbread for the Motorola Milestone (gsm version of OG Droid) and then saying nevermind. Mind you, this was merely 1 year after the milestone came out as well. Gingerbread for the Atrix was inevitable. Not giving the Atrix gingerbread would be a PR disaster. What people fail to realise about a CM port of ICS to the Atrix is that if Moto decides to EOL the Atrix after only a year with no ICS upgrade, you lose out on updated drivers, kernel, and baseband. Sure we'd have ICS, but it won't run as well as a phone that natively has ICS.

You mean Froyo for the Milestone. They had to release it since they advertised flash on the box.
However the Froyo update basically killed the Milestone. Even Motorola put out a disclaimer that basically said the upgrade may cause performance issues.
The memory on the Milestone was perfect for eclair, but Froyo gave it a brain freeze...

I have no doubt that the Atrix "could" handle ICS.
The Nexus S is rumored to get ICS, and that phone has half the muscle of the Atrix...

Half the muscle? The humming bird chipset is far superior than the tegra. Just not clocked as fast. And the exynos chipset blows the tegra 2 out of the water.

Still the Atrix has the extra core which is supposed to be optimized in ICS, plus double the ram over the Nexus S...

Not so much
Froyo runs great on my Milestone, I heard GB makes it very sluggish

Froyo was the reason why I sold my Milestone. Eclair was smoothly, and for whatever reason I could never flash back to Eclair. Every time I tried going back, I got forced closed errors everywhere.
If the Milestone had 512mb of ram, I probably would still be using it since I really liked the build quality of that phone...
