[update]GTA coming on our phones :D - XPERIA X8 General

gta III coming for our android phones
http://wireless.ign.com/articles/120/1200010p1.html?_cmpid=ign1392

It won't run! It's for new dual-core phone.

nahh.
Android tablet and phone users will be glad to discover that they haven't been left out. Here's a list of supported devices:
Apple iOS: iPad 2, iPhone 4S
Android Phones: Droid X2, HTC Evo 2, LG Optimus 2X, Motorola Atrix, Samsung Galaxy S2
Android Tablets: Acer Iconia, Asus Eee Pad, Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
even Play is not listed

maybe i can be ported resized or hacked for our phones

porting game is no easy mate. look at Gameloft game(ARMv7) version. nobody can patch it to work on ARMv6(+VFP).
btw its GTA game, what do you expect? a game with view from the sky? nahh. I will not put a high hope that this game will run on our device.

Since Samsung doesn't ship out updates for their top notch products as often as expected. I'm sure they ship an inverter, ups or generator with this phone to keep it running throughout the day.
It sure seems like Samsung rolled out the Galaxy S line with Eclaire in a Froyo-age for some reason.
Perhaps Samsung plans to give the Galaxy S line only 1 update (from 2.1 to 2.2) and uses this to pave way for the Google Nexus S (or Samsung Galaxy S2) with the Orion chip and rolling out with 2.3 Gingerbread.
I have a feeling that's the way things will shape up and that Google will leave the Nexus One unsupported after 2.3 Gingerbread and begin supporting the Nexus S. Hence, the Nexus S will be the first to get 3.0 Honeycombe and updates after that.
At this time Google will most likely release a Google-Tablet (same as Nexus S but with 10in TFT screen or less possibly with 7in screen). The G-Tab (if 10in) may possibly allow real multitasking by allowing users to halve the screen and run 2 apps in synchrony (like Windows7 but without the ability to move and resize the windows).
There will be 2-Android Markets; phone and tablet editions.
Samsung has burned me and the way they are treating existing there is no way I'm buying another one no matter how good it sounds on paper. screw the hype, it means nothing.
This is how the tech market moves.. it is kind of ridiculous.

Samsung announced ICS update in Korea, but only for newer phones.

Samsung just officially announced that there will be no ICS update for various android based phone from Samsung EXCEPT GS2, GS2 LTE, GS2 HD, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy Tab 8.9.
Samsung also said that GS1 specially optimized for Gingerbread, so they can not update GS1 to ICS.
Some Korean users are in rage due to the fact that GS1 is strong enough for ICS.
And rightly so. no one's buying that, ever. Not only google got it running on nexus s which is pretty much the same phone as we all seen ports running great.
If they don't want to update an old phone its their prerogative but at least be honest about it.
Edit: just realized they never said sgs wasn't powerful enough, they just won't update it. I can understand the raging but can't help it if they aren't willing to do it...
I will never buy samsung phone again
why do not update galaxy s to ICS with have as more spec with Nexus S
Official? Source?
Besides that:
Nexus S = Google
Galaxy S = Samsung
It's in Korean. I will post a new post with translation.
Pretty much rules out any chance of us getting the update ever.
If I had to guess, I'd say it's because of the retarded filesystem Samsung locked stock users into. Regardless, it's a ****ty move by Samsung nontheless.

Because then you wouldn't buy a new phone. I suspect the file system was also a way for them to force you into buying a new phone. Planned obsolescence.
You have to wonder though, Samsung release a few phones with similar/lower specs to our phone such as the SGS+, and the Galaxy W, and their releases haven't had one year behind them. Will they really not update them?

Bad bad baaaad,no ics :( i9001 is hope?

But i9001 s plus???
Samsung has shared one of the most disappointing news of recent weeks – the Galaxy S alongside the Galaxy Tab won’t have an opportunity to taste the delicious Ice Cream Sandwich platform..
The information is certainly a big letdown for the owners of both devices, especially since the Galaxy duo had been Samsung’s flagships before the arrival of Galaxy S II and Galaxy 10.1 tablet.
According to Samsung, the update cannot be rolled out for its two award-winning products because of their hardware, reportedly incapable of running the brand new Android 4.0 platform smoothly. It is fairly doubtful that this is the true reason of the issue, since Samsung Nexus S is getting the anticipated update, and both the Samsung Galaxy S and the Nexus S are very similar devices in terms of specs.
Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich offers redesigned interface and several new features, including Android Beam, enhanced multitasking, new lock screen, control over network data, and more. http://electronicinfo.us/news/samsung-says-no-to-android-4-0-for-galaxy-s-galaxy-tab/

[Ics 4.0] Samsung plans to Offer ICS 4.0 for Galaxy S & Tab after Huge Demand !!

After one of the biggest online revolt against Korean Giant Samsung Electronics by its consumers after announcing straightaway that it won’t be coming out with ICS Android 4.0 for its 1st Generation Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab line up, now it seems like Samsung had to bow down to the reaction of its customers. Samsung today announced that it will be going to review its decision for not rolling out ICS for Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab which clearly suggests that Samsung Electronics will soon be going to unveil the ICS Android 4.0 version.
This decision comes after so many forums reported that when unofficial ICS Android 4.0 builds are taking rounds for its 1st generation line up of Samsung Galaxy Tab and Galaxy S then why can’t Samsung can optimize for the same. Some of the leading forums also kicked off an online petition request which was supported by users in a huge number and in turn has really shaken Samsung and is now forced to review its decision.
just hope that this “Review” will soon be converted into a speedy roll out of ICS Android 4.0 for its 1st generation Galaxy devices which includes Galaxy Tab and Galaxy S. Do, share with us your reaction and thoughts on this as it will further help us and to you as we will be passing this feedback to Samsung.

Refund us and give us all a SGS II
The power of the internet! Truly amazing!
bad news : http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s_to_get_a_value_pack_update_instead_of_ics-news-3583.php
Guess we need to push harder then.
i just read that too
the reason samsung gives out is a lie. they just want to shrug off their responsibility
if ram is the main problem then what fate will come to the newly released galaxy s plus, and galaxy w, and galaxy Y. they all have 512 or less mb. HORRIBLE SUPPORT is the main problem here. look at SONY ERICSSON and learn samsung!
My next phone will be a Google phone.
Nexus rulz!
LOL extra bloat above bloat instead of AOSP when you give the performance excuse?
You can't be serious.

Don't see why they should learn from Sony Ericsson. They are not faster than samsung updating their phones. Samsung has 2.3.6 for most of their phones while SE has 2.3.4.
Never really saw the reason to release the Galaxy S Plus. Atleast, here in Sweden it costs more than the S2. That's Samsungs main problem. All these models that are the same as the others. They have Gio, Ace, Mini, Galaxy Y? They are mainly the same phones. If they would instead only release two of them, like the Ace and the Mini, they would have time to upgrade all the phones. WAKE UP, SAMSUNG!!!

It's just Sony now fyi.
I usually don't join in these discussions; however your statement is untrue.
My wife's SE X10 flagship smartphone from 2010 is NOT getting an update to ICS.
How do you explain that? This phone was released with android 1.6 and would not get an update to gingerbread at first, also the phone was uncapable of multitouch and would not get an update... I doubt many would agree with you that SE update policy was great back then.

I think your best bet for updates is to go with the Nexus phones.
get back to the topic guys,.. we need to do something,..
Ontopic; Samsung might also consider to release drivers for the hardware for coming android versions... although a vanilla android 4 from samsung would be nice.
How much flashmemory does ICS with touchwiz need and how much does the SGS have?
I know 2 things
1. i9000 can run ICS unoffically
2. can run Modern Combat 3 smoothly
So Samsung - don't be lazy, it will hurt your business! i had i5700 spika that wasn't updated, i9000 that wont be updated - i will not make this mistake for the 3rd time...
People at Samsung mobile are so stupid they think that we will buy S2 when we don't get ICS on S1
Samsung U can't force us!

Probably 1GB of RAM like the SGS II. Touchwiz in its current incarnation for the SGS II is a memory hog, and probably would not work on the SGS with ICS if they tried.
They would most likely need more than one branch of Touchwiz to bring it to other devices, and this is probably the reason why it won't be released for the SGS and devices with less than 1GB of RAM.
I don't think its not possible, I think Samsung just does not want to spend dev hours on older devices in which they won't see a return in investment. (and of course, you won't be going out to buy a new device)
Like it or not, Apple has changed consumer expectations for updates. I understand its much easier to do such a thing with a limited amount of devices, but in the eyes of the average consumer, that is not their problem.
Don'r exite guys, it is just a rumour confirmed by GSMA!!

I think this was a final decision. CM9 is coming.. so there is no problem.^^
please start read stickies....

[Q] Nexus 10 vs Sony Xperia Tablet Z

I'm in the market for a new tab... clearly not going to get an iPad.. so.. my short list is down to 3.. N10.. the soon to be released Xperia Tab Z.. or the Galaxy Note 10.1
I know the Sony's not out til the end of the month.. but is it worth the wait?!
Galaxy note looks well spec'd.. but I'm not sold on the UI..
Hit me.

Nexus 10 is awesome but id wait for the tablet z. It looks awesomer lol and the device is built to last. If you dont mind having the update of os later then z is good. I wish Google would make the next nexus device with Sony I'd buy it for sure.

If you really need LTE, external SD card slot, and IP57 certification (dust/water resistant), the Sony tablet is a no brainer. It's also a whole 2mm thinner and 100g lighter.
If you really need the PLS display and pure Android RIGHT NOW, get the Nexus 10.
Thanks both... Sounds like I should wait!
Or, if you already have an lte phone rooted (like me) and tether plus have home WiFi you need not worry about this:silly:
