As the title suggest, my contract is up next week. Shd I get a Xperia S(S$318 with contract) or Optimus 4X HD(S$188! With contract) or maybe Xperia Acro S(price not sure yet, shd be similar to Xperia S)? Any suggestions is welcome

I'd go for the Quad-core Tegra 3 Optimus 4X. But then again, its LG. :|
By all accounts LG are terrible at updating their Android phones.
I spent a week with an Xperia S and didn't like it. How about a Galaxy Nexus?
The ICS update on xperia S is terrible... sony dosn't do a good job ... acro s come with ICS (I'm right?) I think it will be good..
LG is terrible in updates ...(optimus 2X and 3D and black is still not recived the ICS update....)

But the 4X is shipped with ICS.
I did consider a galaxy nexus but in my country, Singapore only offers the 16gb version, which is simply not enough for me

Exactly, LG did a very bad job with their 2011 lineup. That's why I am having a second thought abt getting the 4X HD...

Is it your primary phone or secondary one?(most contract based phones are primary)
If I in your shoes, would definitely go for arco s
LG phones look great in hardware specifications but they are LG, even they have tegra 3
you know technology is doesn't downgrade...
sony will not release any quadcore this year
and probably next year will get the 2nd gen quad or whatever
sony is so late in the game..
xperia s cant even match with the speeds of s2.having a higher proc. speed
When does xperia sl come out is it this year or next anyone got the specs on that it should be a little better than xperia s ?

16GB version of Google Nexus is still better that Xperia phones or LG, thrust me. Plus, you can use USB OTG. You can also consider buying Galaxy S3 if it isn't to expensive for you. Those two are currently top Android phones on the market in my opinion.
Why not just get the One XL? Beats the other phones in terms of CPU power, isn't too far off with price (depends on your plan), and you can use 4G once it gets rolled out
In my experience, LG isn't the worst in software updates (*ahem* motorola) and there's more customisability because they don't lock most of their phones at all (my O3D being a good example). However the UI is heavily customised and you might not like the LG flavour of ICS.
Xperia S looks cool, feels fast even though it has a Snapdragon S3. Sony is also usually good with software updates (the ICS update being the exception rather than the norm) and their phones are generally zippy.
Xperia Acro S... no experience with it, it's not even here yet
Still, keep your options open. If you can wait until September, wait til then. The PC show offers the best deals
This is crazy. Get the Sammy S3 or GNote. Both are way better than any of those mentioned so far. Or just wait for the GNote 2, this will be the best phone around.

You should go with the Nexus or the GS3. You could use some cloud storage, or go with the GS3.
Thanks for all ur suggestions guys. I decided to pick up a 4X HD and give it my sis. I will probably change my phone around November now. Hopefully Xperia GX will arrive on the international market by then

Here's my thoughts on the Sony Arco S:
I got it to use while cycling so I wouldn't have to worry if it got wet (or I used my sweaty hands). It is my secondary phone (primary is a Galaxy Note). Before this, I had an Samsung S2 and a Sony Active. This is replacing the Active.
Very solid feel slightly heavier than you would expect for its size. Screen is nice. Came with ICS (4.04) installed. It also came with a recharging base unit which is very nice. It has some software that recognizes when you drop it into the base and will launch any app that you want. It is a nice phone all around BUT I prefer my S2 as it is about the same size. However if you NEED that water resistant feature this is a great way to go. The Active worked but it was too small, this one's screen is nice sized.
RevDoug
I prefer acro S. It's have ip67 certificate
Sorry for my bad English

re: buying x10
hey there
I have been using x10 mini pro since 18 months nd nkw I want to upgrade. x10 is the only phone in my range with 4 inch screen. how is dev support? battery life.can I use this phone for 2 yrs? thank you!
Hey, are you serious about buying a x10? There are better (Sony) phones out there for the same price, I'm sure!
You'll get the Xperia U or the miro(when it comes out) for more or less the same price, and both are wayy better. Not to mention the HTC One V, and the Samsung Galaxy S II(for a higher price), and the Samsung Galaxy S Advance. These phones are newer than the x10, and hence get better support from their respective companies.
And you shouldn't choose based on screen size alone, the processor and the RAM are most important when you choose a phone. Also the year of release of that phone, that determines how much longer the phone is going to be supported by the manufacturer. At two and a quarter years of age, the x10 is one of the oldest android phones there is...Sony stopped its updates for the x10 with Android 2.3.3 whereas the current Android OS version is 4.1.1
If you do want a 4" screen, these are good options:
Sony Xperia P
Samsung Galaxy S Advance
Google Nexus S(which is quite old, but it's a Nexus phone, hence the most support)
Meizu MX-4 Core
LG Optimus 2X(although LG has stopped support for this, it's still a good phone, a better one than the x10)
HTC Desire V
Samsung Galaxy S Duos(when it comes out)
Hope that helped
ya. I know its too old but ccan u suggest some 3.7 inch + screens in 270$ or less.

Dev support too is decreasing for the x10. Many developers like Feravolt, doomlord, and now FXP have stopped their support for the x10..FXP will not be developing CM10 for the x10, and the others have already left.
As for you, you could buy the Xperia pro..costs about the same(13k rs) but has more ram and a better processor. The Xperia neo works too
awww. I didn't know fxp nd doomlord stopped the support. then I've to rethink. thank u so much!!

And you miss the most important thing...
We were glad to provide the Android 4.0.4 upgrade for our 2011 Xperia portfolio across most markets and the majority of models but, after thorough evaluation, we have concluded they will not be upgraded beyond Ice Cream Sandwich.
Beyond Ice Cream Sandwich we would not able to guarantee owners of these smartphones the user experience you expect and we demand. We will however, continue to support all these products with firmware maintenance releases.

Seriously, my phone runs much smoother in JB than on ICS... Thnk you SONY -.-
Seriously Sony's multimillionaire software department can't make a good JB firm for Neo/Arc/S and can do it for Xperia J?
Disappointing but expected news. I'm personally not surprised. It's most likely for marketing. And anyways it's been almost 2 years already since their release. I guess Sony wants everyone to buy their current and future lineup of Xperias.
We should also be thankful that Sony upgraded our phones to ICS. LG isn't even upgrading their 2011 phones as far as I know.
Sony Mobile isn't as big as Samsung or HTC. Cut them some slack.

So, first you moan because Sony doesn't give out an update.
Then, if an update is released, then you moan even more about all the little problems it has.
They are not your slaves. Give them time to work, you are not the only customers out there. Besides, your phone is not the only one there.
But atleast they should have update arc s to jb isnt 1.4 ghz enough for jb wtf they was saying that they are checking the devices etc.
Fully crap i just bought arc s its still in market and here i am with no jb update
I should have bought s2 instead
I wont buy sony now in future

I only don't understand why they don't upgrade the arc s... But I think this is the biggest problem with android. Look to samsung, the sgs plus was released almost the same time as the arc s, has similar parts and price and didn't even got ics...
I think the problem is that Sony is lazy to do the JB upgrade. JB requires same requirements as ics the only down side is the 512 mb memory but other phone with the same phone power will still deliver the JB hope they can get back in there word qnd deliver JB to us.

No excuses for Sony really they could provide codes so developers can port JB into older devices unless we launch a huge outrage just like the X10 fiasco.

Best way is ..more of us ...to don't buy any sony phone ,because they take this fkkk solution ....not to give us ..the owner of 1.4 GHz ..sony device ..a taste of JB...., that's shame ...
I will sell my device and bye a decent phone....( to have 1GB RAM , front facing camera , enough internal storage .., not like this ..420 MB...., and also a decent battery .) , because I don't want to spend all my money to bye a new phone ..every 5 months ...
This is why I'm getting a Samsung phone next year. Samsung's flagship model from 2011 got JellyBean. and what is more pathetic, JB is incomparably smoother and faster than ICS.
time to change brand!
Well, the last few weeks I've been confused whether my next device will be a Nexus, a Lumia or an Xperia,
now I just need to choose between the first two
(Not that Lumia will surely provide better support, I want to know how good/bad is WP8 through experience, I'll keep the arc S though, still the sexiest phone I've ever had)
according to a benchmark result leak, the existence of C680X is confirmed

it is running android 4.2 and scrren is 1080p
it is close compared to Xperia Z (C660X)
i think it will just be overclocked version of Xperia Z at 1.7 Ghz (just guessing because sony always make overclocked extended version of device re S n SL etc)
if sony is going to do what it always does then late mid year launch maybe...

but the number is different (xperia s was LT26i, the sl was LT26ii). So i'm guessing it is a different device.
Maybe device with 6.44 screen? http://www.xperiablog.net/2013/01/21/is-sony-really-planning-a-6-44-inch-xperia-device
C680X is a 5" device while C670X is the 6.4" phablet.
So basically they get a new flagship after 3 months. That's what i dont like with sony, they release so many phones in a year and replace their flagship to often.

Who said Z is their ultimate flagship? Maybe 2013's ultimate flagship hasn't been revealed yet.
You think Sony's first quad core phone will be the phone they will use against the upcoming Galaxy S IV?
Surely the company has more plans than being second to the S4 .
agree.

So you think this new phone will hit the market in three months? It'll probably be slated for a H2 release.
hmm 6.3 inches is a bit big, handling the new Z, I'd say it is the largest a phone would be comfortable for me to hold. Wonder if Sony will go for a stylus as well?
anything above 5 inch is no go for me... i could hardly manage note 2 when i had it for some time. 6.3 sounds more like tablet...
Anything below 5" is too small for me now!
If the 6.3" phablet rumor is true, then my note1 will get replaced soon...

it's a big upgrade from the galaxy s2 so if your not interested in another phone like Htc one or sony xperia Z then you should get it , i know i will

In the same boat.. Have the i9100 and skipped the S3. Debating between the S4, One and Z..
You should definitely update. S2 is yesterday's news. Which phone to upgrade to is your decision to make.
Definitely upgrade bro. The s2 is old news now. Two generations behind. I'm going to upgrade from an HTC One S.

If you are interested in the Samsung's technolog in S4, I think S4 is a great upgrade. HTC One or Sony Xperia Z are also another options, but my suggestion is choose S4 if you decide to upgrade.
What was it about the S3 that you didn't like? And what does the S4 have that makes it desirable over the S3? I'm sure if you answer this you'll have your answer.

I owned Xperia Z currently, has been using HTC flagship phones (Sensation/One X) also have S3.. I will be getting S4 for my wife haha...
I have a very bad experience with HTC after sales service.. might not be returning to HTC anymore.. The fool me twice..
Bought two flagship phone and was downgraded the flagship status after a few weeks owning it..
Tried Xperia Arc before now using Z, UI wise is not as nice as Sense and TouchWiz.. but acceptable with less rubbish...
I would definitely consider the upgrade if I was you. My wife has an s2 and the s4 is a massive upgrade.
Maybe not
I am using a HTC Sensation from 2 years ago, and I find the phone still able to meet most of my needs (except for the battery time :crying. I am not a crazy app user, but I do use some essential apps like camera, IM, evernote, forum, and occasional gaming as well. The phone is definitely slow compared with S3, Note 2, but does it bother me enough so i want to change my phone? NO.
I say unless you have heaps of extra cash that you don't care much for the cost, then upgrade; otherwise you can still get a good 1 - 2 years out of your S2 (which is a better phone than my sensations)
how about comming from an S3
Coming from S3, not really worth it IMHO. Most of the S4 software features will be coming to S3 in an update soon. But if you have a 2011 device like me, definitely worth it. It's a massive leap

coming from an S3...meh...I bet all of the gesture options could be available through hacks in the near future. So some people might not want to because it isn't that much of an improvement other than software. That being said, I'm the type of person that flocks to the best screen available. M personally, I would upgrade just because of the screen itself.

I hear ya. I have an S3, and just the other day went to T-Mobile and played with the Nexus 4. Oh man that screen is so much nicer. I don't think I'm gonna stick around with Samsung screens anymore. I'll see what the S4 is about, but if its anything remotely similar to the S3 its done. IPS LCD is so nice and bright. Makes me sad to look at my blue tinted S3, even though I'm using a custom AOSP ROM with a color fix for the screen, still not the same.
I can't decide between the S4 or HTC ONE >.<
