My opinion - NO, NEVER AGAIN.
All this stuff with the locked bootlader, the huge efforts needed to flash custom rom, and there are again things that doesn't work.
Another thing - the lack of Dual Touch...

to be fair, I realy love my Xperia (is my first android phone) and I am satisfied about the performace of this phone, taking into account the price of this smartphone, but it realy suck's that other devices like htc or samsung have the similar or worse hardwer than our xperia and these phone's have latest update of Android softver!
Big thank's to developer's here at XDA, for their efforts to make our phone a better and faster phone, if XDA not exist, I would have sold my phone and buy me another cheaper htc or samsung with the latest update!
I'm pretty sure that my next smartphone will be Xperia Arc or Xperia Play!

When Xperia mini will be available in Hungary, i will buy one. Just compare with other phones in the category: mini is the best buy

Even with the new phones, will SE ever keep updating OS for them? Or just release them to 2.3 and never update to 2.4+ ? Like us, who were abandoned with 2.1?
I agree to the point that newer phones have better hardware spec. But look, compared to other manufacturers, there's nothing impressive from SE. Xperia Arc? SE's best phone? It sucks with Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon 1GHz, in comparison with Dual-core 1.2GHz ARM Cortex-A9 in Galaxy S II.
What I am most disappointed from SE is they MAKE and they FORGET. Us? They MAKE us BELIEVE them.
Sony Ericsson: make.forget.
X8 will be my last SE phone.
My phone will be iPhone 3G or dual core based on tegra 2 android device THAT ISN'T MADE BY SE!

I love my SE...but, for the same money, i can have LG OO (OS is supporting is incredible). For the first time, when i saw the Xperia Arc i say: This is my future phone, but i be afraid of the OS supporting. Now for me. I will buy in future other Android device (probably something from Acer or (I never believed that I say) HTC), or Nokia with WP7.
Sorry for my bad english.
Well, X8 has a very nice hardware comparing it to the price, but lack of support is just killing. I know they want us to buy new mini series next year, but I'm not going to give in. Next time it will be some nice HTC or Samsung - I'm thinking about Galaxy Pro. Or something like Wildfire S, but with better display resolution. We'll see next year

Actually, I changed my mind about SE phones...
My next droid will be LG, because they have lousy devs and cracking/unlocking bootloader is easy. I think best support talking custom **** is on LG's side.

True, true..
Im really doubtful if i will buy a SE again. One plus side with SE is that they have opened the bootloader for the newer phones.
Maybe I'm a fan of SE but my phone is X10 mini pro were abandoned ( no upgrade to 2.2 or 2.3). I can change branch in future.

After one of the biggest online revolt against Korean Giant Samsung Electronics by its consumers after announcing straightaway that it won’t be coming out with ICS Android 4.0 for its 1st Generation Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab line up, now it seems like Samsung had to bow down to the reaction of its customers. Samsung today announced that it will be going to review its decision for not rolling out ICS for Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab which clearly suggests that Samsung Electronics will soon be going to unveil the ICS Android 4.0 version.
This decision comes after so many forums reported that when unofficial ICS Android 4.0 builds are taking rounds for its 1st generation line up of Samsung Galaxy Tab and Galaxy S then why can’t Samsung can optimize for the same. Some of the leading forums also kicked off an online petition request which was supported by users in a huge number and in turn has really shaken Samsung and is now forced to review its decision.
just hope that this “Review” will soon be converted into a speedy roll out of ICS Android 4.0 for its 1st generation Galaxy devices which includes Galaxy Tab and Galaxy S. Do, share with us your reaction and thoughts on this as it will further help us and to you as we will be passing this feedback to Samsung.

if ram is the main problem then what fate will come to the newly released galaxy s plus, and galaxy w, and galaxy Y. they all have 512 or less mb. HORRIBLE SUPPORT is the main problem here. look at SONY ERICSSON and learn samsung!

Don't see why they should learn from Sony Ericsson. They are not faster than samsung updating their phones. Samsung has 2.3.6 for most of their phones while SE has 2.3.4.
Never really saw the reason to release the Galaxy S Plus. Atleast, here in Sweden it costs more than the S2. That's Samsungs main problem. All these models that are the same as the others. They have Gio, Ace, Mini, Galaxy Y? They are mainly the same phones. If they would instead only release two of them, like the Ace and the Mini, they would have time to upgrade all the phones. WAKE UP, SAMSUNG!!!

It's just Sony now fyi.
I usually don't join in these discussions; however your statement is untrue.
My wife's SE X10 flagship smartphone from 2010 is NOT getting an update to ICS.
How do you explain that? This phone was released with android 1.6 and would not get an update to gingerbread at first, also the phone was uncapable of multitouch and would not get an update... I doubt many would agree with you that SE update policy was great back then.

I think your best bet for updates is to go with the Nexus phones.
get back to the topic guys,.. we need to do something,..
Ontopic; Samsung might also consider to release drivers for the hardware for coming android versions... although a vanilla android 4 from samsung would be nice.
How much flashmemory does ICS with touchwiz need and how much does the SGS have?
I know 2 things
1. i9000 can run ICS unoffically
2. can run Modern Combat 3 smoothly
So Samsung - don't be lazy, it will hurt your business! i had i5700 spika that wasn't updated, i9000 that wont be updated - i will not make this mistake for the 3rd time...
People at Samsung mobile are so stupid they think that we will buy S2 when we don't get ICS on S1
Samsung U can't force us!

Probably 1GB of RAM like the SGS II. Touchwiz in its current incarnation for the SGS II is a memory hog, and probably would not work on the SGS with ICS if they tried.
They would most likely need more than one branch of Touchwiz to bring it to other devices, and this is probably the reason why it won't be released for the SGS and devices with less than 1GB of RAM.
I don't think its not possible, I think Samsung just does not want to spend dev hours on older devices in which they won't see a return in investment. (and of course, you won't be going out to buy a new device)
Like it or not, Apple has changed consumer expectations for updates. I understand its much easier to do such a thing with a limited amount of devices, but in the eyes of the average consumer, that is not their problem.
Don'r exite guys, it is just a rumour confirmed by GSMA!!

We were glad to provide the Android 4.0.4 upgrade for our 2011 Xperia portfolio across most markets and the majority of models but, after thorough evaluation, we have concluded they will not be upgraded beyond Ice Cream Sandwich.
Beyond Ice Cream Sandwich we would not able to guarantee owners of these smartphones the user experience you expect and we demand. We will however, continue to support all these products with firmware maintenance releases.

Seriously, my phone runs much smoother in JB than on ICS... Thnk you SONY -.-
Seriously Sony's multimillionaire software department can't make a good JB firm for Neo/Arc/S and can do it for Xperia J?
Disappointing but expected news. I'm personally not surprised. It's most likely for marketing. And anyways it's been almost 2 years already since their release. I guess Sony wants everyone to buy their current and future lineup of Xperias.
We should also be thankful that Sony upgraded our phones to ICS. LG isn't even upgrading their 2011 phones as far as I know.

I only don't understand why they don't upgrade the arc s... But I think this is the biggest problem with android. Look to samsung, the sgs plus was released almost the same time as the arc s, has similar parts and price and didn't even got ics...
I think the problem is that Sony is lazy to do the JB upgrade. JB requires same requirements as ics the only down side is the 512 mb memory but other phone with the same phone power will still deliver the JB hope they can get back in there word qnd deliver JB to us.

I will sell my device and bye a decent phone....( to have 1GB RAM , front facing camera , enough internal storage .., not like this ..420 MB...., and also a decent battery .) , because I don't want to spend all my money to bye a new phone ..every 5 months ...
This is why I'm getting a Samsung phone next year. Samsung's flagship model from 2011 got JellyBean. and what is more pathetic, JB is incomparably smoother and faster than ICS.

Well, the last few weeks I've been confused whether my next device will be a Nexus, a Lumia or an Xperia,
now I just need to choose between the first two
(Not that Lumia will surely provide better support, I want to know how good/bad is WP8 through experience, I'll keep the arc S though, still the sexiest phone I've ever had)

hmm 6.3 inches is a bit big, handling the new Z, I'd say it is the largest a phone would be comfortable for me to hold. Wonder if Sony will go for a stylus as well?
anything above 5 inch is no go for me... i could hardly manage note 2 when i had it for some time. 6.3 sounds more like tablet...

That would be really a shame, the z1c isn't "old" and there are no hardware limitations for getting an update. z1c was released in Europe January/February 2014.
I was opitimistic until today that my device would get the Marshmallow update. I'm curious if they will at least deliver security fixes for 5.1.1.
When you say that you will now switch to another brand - well, please tell me, who sells a smartphone < 4,7 " with high end hardware and better support?
Good question grisu59964. Hopefully by the time my contract is up in May 2016 something new and shiny will catch my eye.
I've had Sony phones since they bought into Ericsson and to be honest they're not always great. Loved the 1st Walkman phone. (still have it in a drawer) But the Xperia U stands out as a particularly bad example. It couldn't even run Sonys own update to ICS.
Still, even with its faults like not locking the screen while its against my ear during a call, or the mysterious battery drains, random restarts, music player volume and the previous shoddy updates I do kind of like my Z1C.
I guess it's nearly time to root and add a nice custom 6.0 rom.

Thats sad. I still hope 6.0 will come to z1 even if its not in the list. Like some said, there is no sence on leaving the z1 behind with a Snap 800. I would like very much to see the efficiency of the battery saving that has been developed in 6.0.

I've got a S6 and Z1c. In my experiences, Samsung camera focus speed blows Z1c away(picture quality indeed Z1c still doing good though not as nice as S6) but if you need waterproof and microSD then Z1c better and much cheaper. Alpha is a bit expensive, you should compare it with Z3c in this price range.

Quiet simple : xiaomi is the choice i will change to. It's a software engineer, using the phones as a bridge between user and software. They're producing without win merges, the only contra is the online selling and the shipping duration. Regarding price - hardware related stuff it's the best at the moment.

Unfortunately, Xiaomi has only devices starting at 5" display size (size comparison). And who says that Xiaomi will provide software support in two years? Unfortunately, not really an alternative.
For now, I hope that CM 13 will make us forget that we use officially obsolete hardware.
heck. Z1 Compact is exact same specs of Nexus5 and not getting Android 6.x?
Z1C is more than capable. its just that Sony wants us to upgrade to Z5 Compact, so they won't make official marshmallow rom for it.
its the usual term : planned obsolesence.
As the updates are flowing in, i feel we've been followed much closely now, so on second thoughts, I'd go back to symbian and have Linux based laptop, sorted. Why can't we port gingerbread on contemporary handset? An OEM will never be complete and a custom rom would never match OEM's algorithms, catch 22. Look where CM had started and what now it has become same sh*t in different way.
Every company wants control but I have faith in Developers, especially independent. And all this "security" thing is overrated, what are trying to hide anyway? rather from whom? I mean, as a consumer.

Side question, If I Bootloader unlock my Z1c, i know i lose the DRM keys, but what exactly i lose in functionality ? lower camera performance like on Z3c?
It would be shame if Sony would just drop Z1c. Leaving it with Stragefright 2.0... The phone should get the update.
I won't change this phone for at least another 1 1/2 years, so marschmallow would be great to stay with...
shame on sony, if they drop the suppport..

I thought 5.1 fixed it - http://www.ibtimes.com/android-511-...ria-z1-z1-compact-z-ultra-rolling-out-2096910 - or is there another one?
