Tab shows MTP connected all the time - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

My tab shows MTP connected and a little X on the battery quite frequently. While it is like this, plugging in to power does nothing, as I'm sure that is what the X is for. Also, battery drain appears to be about 1% per hour on standby while like this. Or, sometimes it shows the charging battery status even when not connected. My first impression would be that it is a problem with the connector port.
Anybody else had this happen? Any suggestions? I'm on pre-rooted TW. I'm planning to try another ROM before reverting to stock.
I'm also out of my 30 day return window with Amazon. Think I should try to contact Samsung after I revert to stock? Think I could get a new Tab for this issue?

Did you try factory resetting?

MTP connected and a little X on the battery and not charging
Hi,
I have the same problem.
Changed different chargers (original). Done factory reset.
The problem is still here.
Is anybody have an idea what is that?
Regards

Sounds like a faulty USB port, you probably need to send it to a service centre.

Battery/LED Issue

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help. On plugging the charger into my wife's Desire Z, the LED momentarily went orange (as per usual), but then started alternating between green and orange. Also, from appearing as if the phone was actually charging, it seemed to stop - and indeed has now lost all charge.
The charger works fine on my Desire HD - so it's definitely her phone.
After alot of googling, I've seen mention that this can happen if the battery is overheated, but I can't see how this battery has become so hot - plus, it's been off a day now and still won't work at all.
I'm guessing it's a battery issue, but just wondered if anyone else had experienced a similar thing/had any other ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Sounds like you should get a new battery and try that. The micro usb port might be broken. Does this issue occur when you plug it into a computer?

It does exactly the same when plugged into the computer.
Strange!
Will see if I can get hold of another battery at the weekend to try it.

Nexus 7 boots when plugged in, freezes when unplugged

I've had an issue with my nexus 7 for the last few days. I found it dead when I had it off and charged. Then it wouldn't charge. Eventually I saw on here someone recommended blowing in the use port to see if that helps, it did. Now though, if the tablet is off and I plug it in, it boots. And if it is off when plugged in, unplugging the power freezes it, which I can demonstrate with the battery screen. Then I have to force reset it to get it to boot. See the quick video I made to show Google support (they are sending me a new device). This started after 4.1.2 rolled out to it. Factory reset didn't fix it. Not rooted or unlocked or anything. Just wanted to share.

Have the same problem...did switching your device solve the problem???
I haven't had any issues with the replacement device. Factory reset the old one twice and it still happened. Did a fresh format before sending it back and still had same issue. Hasn't heard of anyone else having same issue. Good luck.

Try unplugging the battery and plugging it back in, could be a loose connection?
You'll have to remove the back to do this.

Agreed, sound's like a battery problem, hense it will boot when plugged in, as power is being provided.
Wereas when un-plugged and dependant on the battery, it shuts down.
Try re-plugging the battery like stated, or attempt to replace it.
If you check the video I put a URL to in the first post (and at bottom), it still runs on battery, but you have to unplug it when it is already on to not g have problems. Works fine on battery if you plug and unplug it when it is on, so I don't see how it could be a loose battery.

get into recovery and try a cache wipe to start. if that doesn't work, do a factory reset. have you backed up your apps or anything? doing a factory reset will wipe your data and you'll lose all apps, settings, everything, but it will take the tab back to "out-of-the-box" setup.

What happened to cause this? Did you let it drain down to zero? Did it go from 50% to 0% at once?
More details please on what led you to this point.

Plug into wall charger, turn tablet off, let it charge for an hour and see if it boots back up.
Not USB, to weak.
And......you really should know better then to root and do intensive tasks with 13% battery. Just saying.

warrant replacement. call where you got it(google play, asus, other) and get a replacement. its a known issue. i had my replaced last month(google play store) because it stopped charging. they didnt give me a hastle, and sent a replacement out fast.
Have the same problem, battery is working good but looks likes battery sensor malfunction, so system doesn't know battery status!.
Don't know what is the effect of that for the battery life!.
Tried every thing to fix that.
Any way, the only solution is RMA, already called Google, and they agreed for a replacement.
So, don't wait, you got 15 days since you got it for a replacement.

I had this problem when I had the latest bootloader installed on my device, everytime I tried to charge it from (what it thought was) 0% the tablet would turn on and instantly turn off again because it had 0%.
I somehow managed to get it into fastboot and loaded the older bootloader (the one which won't let you into recovery without being connected to USB) and the tablet began to charge without turning itself on!
I left it to charge for about 2 hours, turned it on and it had enough juice in it to stay turned on and charge the rest of the way to 100%.
Not sure what the reason / cause of this was, my battery was at about 10% before it happened and it suddenly depleted to 0%!
Hope this helps!

my situation is different here, like this, I got my shipment at work, open the box, turned on the device, it's like 40%.
test it then put on the table for charge, take a look was in 98%..... after half hour it's 0% with on red battery icon.
Now sometimes battery work and I can see the "xx%", sometimes it stayed at 61% for 1 hour of use then jump to 42%!!
Sure something wrong with the battery sensor!.
This is a classic example what happens when people don't take the time to educate themselves on rooting their device. Anyone who owns a nexus device should know where to find factory images for both old and new firmware. And I always charge via USB and not AC. AC overheats my battery way too much. It can cause serious damage to your device.
Just saying

After root USB, disconnect/reconnect problem

I just rooted by phone with this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45692679
(basically replace a file g2_security on the sdcard and reboot)
After the root was complete and I'd rebooted the phone a couple times, my USB connection keeps getting lost. This started exactly after the root, so I assume it's somehow related. Has anyone else seen this problem?
So far my attempt to fix it has only included disabling usb debugging and changing the usb mode to charge only. Other suggestions welcomed.
Try changing USB cable

I'm having this problem with one of my chargers, and when I plug the phone into a computer it says charging but the battery doesn't move at all.

Similar issue with mine after root. Regardless of what setting its on it will charge through the Aux but wont play music through apps like it did before in my car. Music will come out of the speakers but the car wont recognize the phone. Shows "AUX not recognized" Might go back to stock to see what it was.
I am having issues charging as well.
This morning the phone while showing the charge icon in the battery display only was at 55%. I noticed by accident that when the screen is off and I get a notification via text or mail that charging quits. The icon shows as if it charging but the red LED no longer is visible and if you have the screen on long enough the % begins to decrease. I have to unplug and plug again for the charging to take hold.
Would anyone else mind testing a text when the screen is off, charger on and see if this disables their charge?
My problem seemed to stop after a few hours.. I don't know what changed. The host computer didn't reboot, the phone did reboot maybe another time or two, the cable stayed the same. No idea what happened.

Not responding without being charged

During one night my phone just broke down. The screen just stays black and the power button doesn't do anything if the phone isn't plugged into a charger. When charding the phone vibrates, a battery empty icon shows up and it shuts down. It then repeats this as long as it's plugged in. When I pull the plug the phone goes blank again.
While plugged it tries to start when I press the power button. It gets to the samsung logo and shows it for awhile. Then it just shuts down and continues to show the battery empty icon.
I can get to the recovery and download bootmenus. In these bootmodes the phone doesn't shut down unless I pull the plug.
I flashed the original firmware with odin but it did nothing. The system status still shows: custom. But the system binary is Samsung Official.
I tried to switch the battery but it didn't help.
This all happened overnight and I havent installed any apps outside the playstore in a long time and I rooted the phone like 5 months ago. I haven't flashed any custom roms.
Do you think this is a hardware or software issue and should I take the phone to repair? My only concern is the system status and will it affect their will to repair my phone.
Edit: When I flashed the original ROM back the phone could not reboot when plugged into the pc. I had to pull the plug so the phone shut down. Then I plugged it into a wall the phone rebooted normally but couldnt once again get past the samsung logo.

Different charger didn't help. And when plugged into a computer it behaves the same as it was plugged in the wall.
Sounds like a faulty battery, check to see if its swollen and maybe go buy a new one.

Ah, i missed that. Maybe something happened to the actual connector in the phone to the battery, something like that? Whatever the case definitely sounds like a hardware issue.

Just to make sure, I'd advise finding someone else with a working S5 and borrowing their battery to put in his phone to see if it boots........
If it does, I can say with pretty much 100% certainty that it's a faulty charger port........
Edit......having said the above, I've just re-read the OP, and the fact that he says there are signs of life when he plugs it in leads me to think that it's not the socket itself, but something else........
Maybe a problem with the charging circuit?.......
