What would it cost . . . for 1 click Root. - Acer Iconia A500

Just curious. How much it would take to intice a dev to put in the long hours it would take to root 3.2 with a 1 click root product. I'm thinking, those of us who are interested could pitch into a pot and make a collection to go to the first dev who brings us an easy root?
Maybe I'm crazy, but it looks like we are going to have to come up with an incentive to get a rooted 3.2 without having to jump through a downgrade/upgrade hoop.

Best to wait for ICS as it'll be here shortly, then pass the plate around

I too agree ice is to close around the corner to ask anyone to put more time in development for honeycomb. My tablet will stay as is. On a stock rooted 3.2.
The developers all have lives .and will get back motivated when they get something new to play with.

Is ICS Even Guaranteed for the A500? I mean I Know you can load Custom ROM with it and such.. But It runs great with the Stock Rom? Im just curious if ACER is even Planning on Sending out ICS for the A500.

One NEVER knows with Acer, but if they don't, it'll be the last Acer I ever buy.
ICS will be out inside of a month, and the A500 hasn't been out a year yet. If Acer stops support inside of a year, I'll bet others will feel much the same way.

Acer has apparently told Telstra Australia that they are updating A501's to (Android 4) ICS in December. I heard this from a Telstra representative at a store. So its good news I guess.

I think I'll dump Acer anyway... I had a terrible experience with support, switched three A501 and everyone of them has bad pixels. I'll wait for Transformer 2 or Slider and then will see...

Don't they have to? I believe a manufacturer has to support a device with upgrades for 18 months as part of their agreement with Google to have Google apps on their devices

There is no market logic in Acer not updating to ICS. They don't have anything new to sell, so updating the A500 will only increase their sales.

I would still wait for the (near)stock rooted ICS. The chefs do a great job considering the resourses they have, but for me stability is a must and that's what is lacking in the cooked ROMs.

+1 That's why you start with a pre-rooted stock ROM, and cook your own.
Then it's completely setup the way you intend for your own personal use!

As others said, it would be better to wait for ICS. It's not just rooting a stock 3.2 that's the issue, with the new bootloader, you still wouldn't be able to install CWM or custom kernels. So to completely open it up, you'd have to downgrade the bootloader. And there's already a process for doing that.
If your updated to 3.2, just downgrade it to 3.01, root it, add cwm, then install a pre-rooted (near) stock 3.2 ROM.

i havent had a problem yet with a cooked rom or my recooked rom.
Then again i am all about device experimentation so....

I downgraded, rooted, installed CWM *AND* installed Lightspeed in about ten minutes. All of which was done without the aid of a PC - downloaded the downgrade, unzipped with Estrongs, followed the instructions.
If that's too hard maybe you shouldn't be rooting in the first place, because I'll put money on you coming back having broken something.

Questions about Froyo...

So I have rooted my N1 and have cyanogen, when froyo comes out and I decide i want to try it out, do i have to upload the original rom and then upgrade? or what is the best way to do it? so i can go back to cyanogen if i decide i like it better? trying to keep it as simple as possible...Thanks!!!
You don't have to do anything. It will come out as an OTA, Cyanogen will get his hands on it immediately if not a few days before the release and it will be incorporated into his ROM. You will likely have an updated version from him based on Froyo including all his extra goodies before the stock OTA is even 100% rolled out [they usually do it over a couple days].

From Adobe. Check this out:
http://blogs.adobe.com/conversations/2010/04/moving_forward.html
We look forward to delivering Flash Player 10.1 for Android smartphones as a public preview at Google I/O in May, and then a general release in June. From that point on, an ever increasing number and variety of powerful, Flash-enabled devices will be arriving which we hope will provide a great landscape of choice.

Flash requires 2.2, so a "general release" in June would mean that 2.2 would arrive sometime before then or concurrently.
Either way, we (rooters) will get both much, much earlier.
Thanks paul. I hope theres a ton of youtube videos that come from that convention.
I hope froyo has this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ae01yz5z99E
Also if you get bored, watch that video over again with closed captoning, very funny =)
I doubt google is bundling Flash with the AOSP code. That would mean adobe is making flash open source(not happening) or google is locking up android(not happening). With all the talk about decoupling the android OS, the chances of something like a video player being bundled to the main OS update happening are very very very minute.
Flash will be a separate .apk, but the OS will need the frameworks to support it.

It irritates me because he states it as a blatant fact, where it should be said as something less direct. It is a possibility.. but it isn't exactly set in stone to happen - especially with how Google has been so closed about this release.
Froyo being leaked would be a god send, but I won't be holding my breath, simply to be suffocated at the end.
Why do you guys think flash requires 2.2? It comes incorporated into 2.2 but if you have 2.1 you will be able to install the apk and be good. Adobe said flash is coming to android 2.0 and above.

I credit this to the lack of good stickies in this forum. Ok maybe I should change the word "good" to "useful" stickies. But there really should be a good Q&A sticky to answer everybody's question so that they don't ask it again in a new thread. For example: how many posts have you seen recently that ask "how do I root my phone?".. not many (unless its people panicing because they think they've bricked their phone) and thats because of that sticky at the top. I'm sure Paul will put together a guide (someday) and it will be at the top in no time.
Mod edit: I will pass your suggestion to the responsible forum mods.

Someone hurry & root this official Sprint 2.1

So i got one with root and one thats rooted and I gotta say this yes all these posts whining need to stop. But I do want to say why not? There aren't any roms as fast as this right now and everytime that there is a good one it gets ****ed up or forgotten before its done. The only thing that has any hope is the froyo thing right now because all the devs are working on it together.
I hate to admit it but I agree one hundred percent with dark shnieder. A million times we all said dont install the new signed 2.1 releAse and this shows that ignorance is the downfall for those who do not listen. Do yourselfs a favor all u ppl who installed stock 2.1... when the community tells you not to do something don't ****ing do it. Now deal with your ignorance until 2.1 is rooted.
I don't care one way or the other, I've had working 2.1 for months and I am very happy with it. If you were dumb enough to flash a ROM without researching it first, you get what you deserve. I've been running damages ROM's since they came out and have had little to no issues. I am currently running 2.08.1 and have no problems at all. So, if they come out with another update to DC or not, I'm am very happy with the ROM I have.
Hell, Ive been running ports of Android versions since Donut started to get ported (it wasnt a daily for me since I couldnt get SMS working) then played around with early 2.1 builds. I can say I was one of the few that actually saw all these 2.1 ROMs evolve from pretty basic stuff, kinda like what Froyo is right now.
I learned my lesson back with the PSP: "do not update to the latest and greatest if you know the community will come up with better stuff in days if not hours of that release".
Not everyone flashed the 2.1 RUU. I took my phone in for service and it was deemed hardware failure. They gave me a brand new phone and installed 2.1 on it without asking me if I wanted it. I asked for another phone with 1.5 and they said no LOL. So I am stuck with 2.1 stock until someone figures out how to root it. And I can't wait, because some of the ROMs I have been reading about sound real nice.

I would wait on the root and keep it private until froyo gets released, the rooting process you guys do come up with might get heard by the wrong person and they could patch it in froyo. this is a common practice when it comes to hacking devices that i have seen, once exploits are found generally the dev waits for the next update that way it can be rooted as well. Just my opinion...

Usually, root is device specific (I think). If Google releases Froyo after our "2.1 root", it most likely wont be patched since the Hero is not on the list to get that upgrade.

ICS coming tomorrow! couple questions...

Alright so as we all know the transformer will be receiving ICS tomorrow but i have a couple questions...
1) If we are rooted with razorclaw and apply the update, will we brick our phones or will it just remove root an apply the update?
2) Is there anything we should remove if we are rooted before applying the update?
3) Are you excited to get ICS yourself?!?
4) What are some of the MAIN improvements of ICS to the transformer?
Thanks in advance for any any help!

Yes, very excited. As for the features I think Asus uses the stock ICS without much changes to the UI like TouchWiz. So can't you use this as a reference?
http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-4.0-highlights.html
1. If you're still on stock then you'll get the update and it will remove root. On a custom rom, you wont have the OTA unless you flash back to a stock rom. You'll have to flash a custom rom with the update if you want to remain rooted.
2. No, the root apps will just simply stop getting root access.
3. Who isnt? Everytime i swipe through honeycomb I feel like getting an iPad
4. Speed is the first along with better memory management. And the improved launcher
So the original TF is getting ICS tomorrow? Does anyone have a link to flash the stock from back on it? I have the Galaxy Nexus and love me some ICS. Thanks in advanced

I'm more than a little skeptical that we will see the update tomorrow or later tonight depending on how you factor in the time difference. Outside of that one single post in a discussion thread on facebook, ASUS has not really made any other announcements on it. But who knows we might get lucky and see it tonight/tomorrow.
All of that being said, It is a little annoying to see people ask about taking this update and then hoping for another root method. I don't really understand why people cannot either install ota root keeper or wait for a rooted version of the stock image. What is one or two more hours or even a day. ICS will offer some improvements but I doubt they will be as dramatic as people seem to think it will be.

Depends on how you're rooted. You still get it if you're rooted and are on a stock ROM, it just won't install if you have CWM installed.
If you don't have CWM installed, you'll get ICS and no root and a new locked bootloader. Of course this assumes you're not running a custom (non-stock) ROM. If your not running a stock ROM then you'll never see it.
Anyway, take the OTA you'll loose root and will need to find an ICS exploit to root it.

I guess my question on this is why do we care so much about the release. I am pretty happy with HC and could not imagine what new features or tweaks ICS could have that would make me want it so bad...
Even if we did get an official update we would want a custom rooted ROM anyway
Geez
World Iconia Peace. and stop the when will we threads.

New market?

My gf has the evo shift so but I notice she doesn't have the new market. Does the evo get the update at all? Or just certain phones ? I know my epic has it.

Is there any reason you can't use the gapps installer in this thread to update it?

Try the latest stock sense rom in my sig it has the latest market already built in
Funny, I noticed my phone's not getting the updated market either. I'm back on stock 2.3.4 right now and noticed the market wasn't updating no matter what I did. It could be a temporary problem.
Yeah but like I said it's working fine on my 2.3.4 rom -__-

Can't say for sure, but it sounds like she's one of those people who does't root, so she probably has stock and your rom probably wouldn't help. Sorry bro.

sometimes it takes a little bit for the update to kick in.

Most people do not Root their devices because they hear a lot of horror stories. Usually from other people who don't enough to fill a thimble with their knowledge. Either because they don't seek the correct information, or they do not follow directions properly. Believe me I'm related to a few of them . Know it alls, who nine out of ten times cannot even explain the terminology they throw around when they're " giving advice". If you take the time to explain to someone the Pros and Cons of Rooting a device. Hand them all the information you can, and let them make an informed decision. Most, not all, but most will choose to Root their device. I'm done with my rant . Now back to what I was doing. Rooting a device for one of those miscreants whom I refered to.
