Looks like the epic. But will probably have something different just enough to f*%$ us over.

What's the release date...its an epic clone and once its out we'll easily be able to port everything meaning CM7, MIUI, and ASOP roms with custom kernels...better looking forward to this than waiting forever for our own official version...smh

So far the only 'different' I saw was that its shipping with Gingerbread.. lol

N the lte n 4g difference. Would that make it a different kernel?

different kernel but not source. We can probably delete the lte sections of the kernel source and either add wimax or just keep it 3G only. I talked to deca yesterday on the IRC and he said he's not gonna use their source, but maybe jt1134 or another dev will. He ported other CDMA SGS devices to CM7 and MIUI.

I think based off it having the same keyboard (unlike the nexus), being TW overlayed (unlike the nexus), having the same exact specs (processor, camera, RAM, etc.) as our epics minus cosmetic appearences and carrier branding (unlike the nexus) the fact that samsprint took our epics off the EOL list pending this release (at least its what I points to)...that this phone will be a lot more relivant in getting us what we need...and in getting us way farther than the nexus could...#fairtosay

See, thats the million dollar question. The Nexus S 4g was supposed to be identical in everyway but the keyboard, but obviously that wasn't the case.
Also, lte removal should be easy as deleting a few files or editing the .config.

Well, I'm atleast grateful jt was able to get the .35 kernel up, and hopefully he goes as far as to tinker with the Stratosphere's source as a lot of us are curious if it will at all be more or less help than the Nexus S's source. As for Deca, I do also understand his stance in this situation. He's already done a lot by getting us a CM7 beta build, so if he decides to wait for official source, then I guess we'll all be waiting I mean, we've waited this long on Samsung already, no turning back now

Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
Most devs are absorbed into marketing, rather than true power behind the phone. Hence, 90% of developers that have Sprint work on the Evo.
The Galaxy S is heavily underestimated when it comes to great entertainment product.

Really? 4G is the network. Same reason it's an Epic 4G. 3D = 3 Dimensions, it's a 3D screen like 3D movies. They're not sequential version numbers like software, they're describing features of the phone in the name.
Um...........

epicslayer said:
that maybe, but for the average joe or suzzie who walks into a sprint store and see the evo 3d and evo 4g one would think that the Evo 4g is the newer model and here is why.... lets look at apple...
iphone
iphone 3g
iphone 3gs (s for second edition)
iphone 4
iphone 5? or 4s? or 4gs?
ipad
ipad 2
see they go up in numbers not down....
Also notice how in the name of evo 3d it says nothing about 4g like the evo 4g, evo 4g Sh!tless so i am betting sprint is dumping wimax and the evo 3d is just 3g thus the 3d is refering to 3g data and the d part for the revision d of 3g data...

I don't think the GPS will ever be perfect. I am just hoping all the random reboots are finally gone. I found it is more related to battery power. As my battery got below 30% and my memory was cleared out. It rebooted once an hour until I put it on charge then no more reboots.

You mean SamSprint. Samsung released Gingerbread to Galaxy S series in Europe months ago. My guess is FCC restrictions in the US make Sprint and Samsung (as well as the other US carriers) work together to make it conform. Thus the modem issue.

The FCC is primarily concerned with hardware - I have no idea how they would have anything to do with holding back a software upgrade.

Not sure but that would be the only difference with Galaxy S series in the US and in Europe. Of course if the FCC has caused restrictions in our hardware that makes the European version of Gingerbread not compatible, there would be the connection.

Both of those are CM9, not stock ICS. I believe OP is asking why there is no Epic4g involvement in team ICSSGS.
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/team-icssgs-brings-pure-aosp-ics-to-samsung-galaxy-s-line-up/
CM9 is gonna be great, but if I had a choice I'd probably run stock ICS.
We are NOT getting ICS so get over it or write Samsung. Sorry to sound so abrasive but you are preaching to the choir. There is no reason why we shouldn't except it would take Samsung 10 months to get it working on Touchwiz and BML.

This build is not built by Samsung. I'm sure the Epic may be able to work with AOSP ICS now that we have WiMax drivers for it and most of the guts are the same with the other variants. We no TW, I'm sure there is enough space for AOSP ICS to fit.

Of course it would work AOSP but Samsung already has the Nexus's out there for that. They are not going to shift gears and strip TW out of all the Galaxy S phones. We have to rely on our DEVs to get ICS on this phone.

Team ICSSGS is an independent team not affiliated with Samsung. The op was probably asking if there were any Epic devs on Team ICSSGS and if the team will release a version for the Epic. They already have AOSP ICS builds for the Captivate, Vibrant and International SGS.
These builds are not coming from Samsung

Well that answers my question. Read the link I posted above. This has NOTHING to do with Samsung and NOTHING to do with Cyanogenmod. He was asking why we are the only Galaxy S variant not involved in Team ICSSGS. Again, nothing to do with Samsung.

I would say because devs on the epic are becoming scarce and/or stretched thin. My suggestion is to learn how to develop, ask the team to join, and start coding!
Sent from my Cyanogenmodded Epic4g! Wanna fight about it?
to muyoso: I think you are referring to what icssgs is doing as stock is going to cause more confusion.. Stock on epic 4g would be an official tw room from Samsung.. An aosp type rom is what icssgs is working on.. (since none of these phones are in anyway aosp phones)
To OP: Their are a bunch of skilled devs on their own team working on an ics aosp-like rom for this phone.. They are awesome people.. Doing this on their own time... In their own way.. If you want aosp ics than get a galaxy nexus.. Otherwise respect these guys and don't ask them why they don't do this (aka joining another Dev team or project) .. Moreover without the epiccm7 team their wouldn't even be a twinkling of an idea that anytime soon you could even expect an ics rom on the epic..
And next time put this in Q&A..
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
It wasn't a request to get it worked on I was just wondering if anyone had taken a look at it as developers.
I am kinda a stock kind of guy with my phone and it interested me when it came up on the news feed today. I simply made the thread to get a bit of chatter about another possible (even though highly unlikely) avenue for ROMs for people that like their phone to look more stock. That's all.
Sorry I caused such a fuss. I promise my question was in no way asking the current developers to leave their current projects. I will probably try CM9 when it comes out.

Reading the recent chatter in the CM7 you might not have to wait long.
Sent from my 4G Cyanogen Epic.
AOSP ICS will quickly be forgotten the moment CM9 is released.
Am I wrong? I don't see any benefits on using that over CM9.
There are modifications to the AOSP that CM sees as benefits and there are pros and cons to that. It interested me that there was another team out there that was trying for the purest form they could build.
I happen to like the stock launchers that Google make and from what I have looked into regarding CM is that it comes with ADW or LauncherPro and not the stock launcher and that's what I would prefer. Just a preference thing really. I'd actually like a nexus model but the ones that I have available think SD cards are from the devil!
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Trebuchet is the stock ICS launcher allowing users more control over orientation and transition feature and more features later, they're not using ADW any longer. CM9 in it's current state is AOSP. It's an Alpha, there's not heavy modifications and few optimizations to it yet. Perhaps some actual looking into it would be preferrable. CM9 itself isn't official yet. And once we get it, it'll still not be official until the whole is considerd official.
That's awesome to know!
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
that word stock on cell phone roms is so confusing.. Like on Samsung phones the GB stock launcher is tw... Maybe Android standard launcher would be a better way to refer to it . Ie ics standard launcher.. Not saying to do that at all, just frustrated with such confusion for the word stock

Most likely not, my cm9 from source is bootable but not very stable of course my kernel is built from the ground up and no where near complete since proprietary driver source for the evo isn't available for ics thanks to HTC EOL'ing the evo so they couldn't be forced to drop an updated Dev kit, I've had to either hack gb drivers to work with ics or attempt to write the drivers from scratch which has been an excercise in getting a nice migraine but somethings gonna give and ill either get it working or die trying evo tho I don't use my evo as my main phone anymore I've committed myself to getting that f*cker working come hell or highwater

Trust me when I say getting ics working takes a hell of a lot of work and time with no official support >_< I can compile 3 cm7.2 mods with new goodies before I can get one cm9 done and about 90% of the time it feels like I wasted the time compiling cm9 cuz what was fixed was so minor it doesn't feel like it made a damn dent in the FC city its like going to war with a water gun and thinking you're gonna survive

Seems like trolls.
Don't feed the trolls.

Thread for discussing/begging for CM10 Jelly Bean

They thought CM9 couldn't be ported to the Epic 4g, but a valiant corps of devs has done amazing work and gotten every single major feature, including 4g, to work in cyanogenmod.
Now that android 4.1 has been released, it is only natural to ask if it will be possible for the Epic 4g to keep up with CM10 when that is released, and to talk about the prospects and excitement of that idea.
Let's do that here, and not in the discussion threads for CM7 or CM9.
Please read forum rules before posting or making threads

No, we all knew it could be done...
And JB is better optimized and can easily be ported.

Because all of the gnexes use the same kernel and just need edited ril files to fix service.

My coding experience is limited to MatLab so since you develop correct me if I'm wrong. JB is version 4.1 so since it is not a full step up and we already have drivers that work for 4.0 CM10 will not be as difficult as CM9.

I assume they just tweaked the UI and features, cleaned up code, optimized, ect.

Hrmm...the low level tweaks they've made in project butter concern me, in regards to whether or not the hummingbird SoC can handle it. The UI is going to put even more strain on it than ICS, and I feel ICS is already borderline the max/slightly passed what it can handle....I suppose we'll see though.

Have you been working on a port? If so, I'd be willing to test for you. I can help!
Let me know if anything Marcus, I'm getting LMDE back onto my laptop and getting everything set up again, wanted to start over.

Ah for sure, if anything let me know. So I can disappear for a few more months haha.
Not sure if this is relevant but adobe is no longer going to support its flash player for android 4.1 or higher. Saw this while browsing through flipboard.
