[Q] Problem with unlocking after ISV Beta Cleanup - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

Hi, So I updated to 7720 no problem and wanted to do the isv beta cleanup which wasn't working so I relocked the phone using chevron after reading that several people did this and the update worked and then they could unlock again using chevron.
Now I have a device with the isv beta cleanup update that is locked and chevron keeps bringing up the standard can't find device error whenever I try and run it (yes, I have transferred the certificate again and installed it) and whenever i try to deploy the device unlock cab using the cab installer I get what is shown in the picture below. Does anyone have any ideas?
(I have tested the device and it is definitely locked at this point in time)
Thanks

you dont need to reinstall certificate or unlock cab.
just hard reset and your unlocked from start! its bult into the rom! you just need fresh updated start of os not updated start!
boot phone and at gogogo hold both vol buttons then hit vol- 2 times.

I know you have to hard reset when you update to 7720. I did that. And the unlock was fine, but after the cleanup update I can no longer unlock. Are you suggesting that I hard reset AGAIN?!
I spent so much time setting the damn phone up ~_~

[Q] "Remove" WP7 Chevron?

Hey all. I am currently an android user looking into trading for a focus.
Problem is, the phone had WP7 chevron run on it and now has the nodo update.
My question is; since MS said no more updating for phones with chevron run on them, can I remove or revert to a non chevron installed state? From what I have read here, nodo "breaks" chevron, does that mean I can install future updates?
I just want to make sure I dont trade for a crippled phone...
I got the Samsung update after the NODO. Mine was Chevron 7 updated for NODO.
Where did you get the Samsung update? How did you apply it?
Also, is there a way to flash the original OEM firmware to get a "stock" phone?
Waiting to see
I used Chevron on my Focus so I could debrand it and used the timing trick to get NoDo myself, so after the MS release, I spent a while poking around online. As near as I can tell, what MS was warning against was the use of the chevron updater tool, not the original unlocker. MS had already said NoDo would basically "fix" the original chevron hack, so, I think they had that covered. If it was just an unlocked phone that got the update naturally through Zune (even if by trickery), it should be within what they expected. But, the updater apparently forced the NoDo update using some other function on the phone, and that seems to be where the worry is coming from.
But, in the end, if you don;t have a Zune backup from before the update (mine didn't successfully keep them, so, no rolling back for me) the only thing any of us can do is wait for either the next release and see what happens, or for someone to figure out how to get a rom. So far, I'm expecting to see the update first, but, you never know.
I am new to WP7 and would hate to get a crippled phone. Thank you both for your info.
I used the chevron ulocker. It ran in a DOS command window. It did the pre NODO, then it did the NODO. A few days later, I connected it to ZUNE and it announced there was a Sansung update. It went fine.
1.Chevron actually will not affect ur update. What MS said was using Chevron Updater MIGHT prevent you from further update, but what actually happened is that people used Chevron Updater still got Samsung Firmware update.
2.Get rid of Chevron unlock, is easy, just do a factory reset.

Pretty much what this guy said. I did the NODO timing update on my debranded Focus. Samsung update wouldn't show up in Zune until I did a Factory Reset.

[Q] Question about Chevron Unlock after phone reset

I have the Samsung Focus and have Unlocked it with Chevron Unlock Tool. I already updated to the latest firmware version, the one with copy and paste and it seems that the Chevron Unlock is still intact as I can still sideload apps.
I want to reset the phone to wipe all my personal info since I'm going to sell the phone, so:
1) would resetting it wipe the Chevron unlock even though I've installed the Samsung tool that prevents relocking?
2) Would I still be able to use the Chevron Unlock with the latest firmware on the Focus? (in case the next buyer wants a Chevron Unlocked phone)
TIA.
If you do the format reset then yes the phone will be relocked. It will be in the same state as it was when it was new in the box.
Chevron is just "Dev" unlocking the phone, allowing code to be installed and run that is NOT signed and vetted etc... for marketplace.
It isnt a true "Jailbreak". All you are doing is installing a cert and then Dev unlocking the device so a reset clears all those settings.
The latest OS upgrade will NOT chevron unlock. You can reset, unlock and then update via the official AT&T updater with zune and it all works and stays unlocked. I have done this to 7390

So you mean since I already updated to the latest firmware, Chevron unlock would no longer work?
You are using the term "Firmware" and I am referring to the NODO update. So if you are at 7390 then no chevron doesnt work.
I did the official AT&T update and was able to use the backup it made to revert to the original OS, chevron unlock then NODO update and am still unlocked.
If you want to make the phone "unlockable" for the next user,
I would use the Zune backup to revert to 7008, if that's still possible, and from there, do the "reset"
This would remove the unlock, but the new owner of the phone could unlock again in this state.
If your backup doesn't restore the phone to 7008, but 7390, there is currently nothing you can do to "reset" the phone and make it unlockable

[Q] Help needed with chevron

Hi guys.
You will all properly think here we go again with this noob question.
I have spent several nights figuring out how to jailbreak / dev unlock my omnia 7 without success.
It was an official t-mobile de version but i did the resistor trick to enter download mode and flashed the retail version i could find in one of the posts.
Now i am on version 7.0.7392 and i would like to unlock the device so i could registry edit my region so i can have a dutch phone when the mango update roles out. ( i also tried downgrading to nodo )
i have read much post but every time i get a error communicating message.
i have edited my host file, installed dev phone software installed certs, stopped running services on port 443, etc. etc.
but i couldn't connect to the phone with chevron.
Do i need to be on a special firmware version or something before this works?
is there someone out hear ho could help?
is there nobody how could help me?
hello,
i had the same issue as you a while back. if i remember correctly, chevron doesn't support nodo - i think it only supports 7008 or earlier. so, flash a pre-nodo rom, and remember to put your phone in aeroplane mode before you connect it to your pc to dev unlock it. also install samsungtools.xap and select prevent devie relock, as well as enable 3g toggle if you want - i find it very handy. reboot your phone after selecting prevent device relock in the samsung tools on your newly developer-unlocked phone.
Hi there thanks for the reply, i have already downgraded to version 7.0.7004
but still the same errors, cant communicate with phone. make sure you are running zune and the usb cable is connected.
do i need to run this from a windows xp machine?
i have done so many things now, installing dev tools. edit registry , airplane mode downgrading firmware, stop running process using port 443, tried 3 diferent machines already now. i cant figure it out.
Is there any solution for this problem .I am on 7008 and getting the same errors I need to install apps on this device
I managed to get get it work. but it is verry strange.
i do not know what it didt to make it work.
but you need to install windows developers tools ( start from a fresh install of zune and developers tools ) run chevron as administrator with the screen unlocked.
Also make sure you install the certificate on your phone.

I need your help..i still cant get mango!! EDIT SUCCESS!!

I went from v2 - 7004-7392cab -devicepro.cab- zune to 7403 - 80004005 error trying to install isv 7720.
Looked all over the internet for this code and somebody found a solution on this website(half way down the page)...it relates to a samsung device but if somebody can explain how do i apply this to hd2??
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...o/60e728c6-2cfe-47fc-a996-344a9d1c2c0d?page=2
Ps i try cab 7403 to 7661 but fails with error code straight away..WHY?? Do i need devicepro.cab again?? What would be your advice /route if i wanted to try the cab install to mango? Detailed guide would be awesome
Im running out of patience now i think
Why dont you try to flash your device over Zune?
Just install V2 ROM and then follow the instructions and update via Zune.
Rosetti you couldnt have said better. I Updated All Through Zune. DeviceProvisioning.cab is needed for going from NODO to MANGO.
Yeah dude do it over Zune the last stages are way easier over zune
i can't believe i tried everything else but not this method...thanks all ..i will report back later 2nite..
I dont believe it!
all week i have been messing around with cabs files as people were constantly reporting errors with zune thats why i decided to avoid it but il be damned!
process took around 2hours from start to finish..still got cleanup to go but i rather get some sleep..
i just went from 7403 rom .turned phone off
format sd card
enter magldr - clear and enable stuff
usb mode
flash v2 rom
set up date and time
zune found february update
zune found 7392
Send devicepro.cab via cabsender
zune found 7720 took fooking ages
zune finds cleanup - gta wait till 2mro thou..
not one trick applied ie hard resets/change time zone/reserved space/virus off
it was as simple as that..good nite!
i followed yuki v2, then force update with zune i got 7xxx (forgot) then again force update i got 7392 but then i cant force it anymore to get 7403 (before final force to 7220). i tried 1 sec then pull the internet cable. no success. tried 3,4,5 secs, also no luck. comments?
Once I succeeded in installing Mango on HD2, but then I realised that it's not unlocked. So I flashed my phone again... and now I'm stuck on 7008 and Zune's not giving me any update.
Can you please help me? My hair is all grey

How did you realise this, Venerable sir? Did it say it in toms xap(number of reasons)? Did you try to send dev-unlock-remove.cab then dev-unlock.cab?
You might have saved yourself some trouble and hair dye

I have to say, I tried every possible timings (all between 0 and forever). Don't work for me. Worked with the NODO update on second try. Mango - no chance.
*edit: Don't know why. Yesterday cab sending did not work. Gave me an error. Went to bed. Just thought I'd give it a nother shot - worked. Sent the .cab and Zune found the update for my Phone instantly!
Now all I am lacking is the activation key - waiting for the replay by MS.
Thanks to all, that made this possible!
**EDIT²: Now after finding the update, and installing the first step to Mango, I get stuck at the CLEAN UP update. Can't get it solved. Any suggestions?

[Q] XBmod-Yuki 7720 upgrading

Hello!
I was following the instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1246040
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1236027
And had no problems getting to 7392. After that though, things got weird. Upgrading to 7712 (Step 14 in the first link) did take ~1.5 hours, but what was strange was that the phone said update succesful while Zune said update failed.
I (probably unwisely) didn't think much of it since the phone said it was ok, so I continued on to install 7720. That gave me the following error in WP7 Update Cab Sender:
"Error: Update device 08b958c3 - 899aeab3 - f2ff1ads - b3b31663 Complete with error code: 8018004D, error message: IU <Image Update> installation failed on phone: No applicable packages."
Plus, the phone would tell me that the update failed and to read the messages Zune gave/try again.
Looking at the phone information in Settings/About though shows that it is running 7.10.7720.68. I seem to have all the Mango features too. Can anyone let me know if the phone is ok to use or what I did wrong? I really like Mango so far (quicker than NoDo for me) and I'd hate to load all my apps, contacts, etc, just to redo the entire installation again.
Thanks!
PS: Let me know if there's any information in my email that I should censor out for any reason, I'll come back and edit it (or mods are welcome to fix my post).

Hi ChronoZero, it looks as though you are good to go!
You have the correct version number, and you if you didn't send provisioning, it can't be the RTM(which, confusingly has the same version number!). I think MS have simplified zune updating so it goes direct to 7720. the "no applicable packages" usually means you have them installed already. If it is the RTM, then you will get an offer to from zune to "cleanup" and won't lose any data anyway.
Enjoy!
Edit; Nothing wrong with your post. Welcome to the forum
Edit 2; You did do the hard reset at the end? It is important for unlocking the device etc.

Hi Robbie,
I had to do the send provisioning to do all the updates as I couldn't get the force Zune to update trick to work. Zune also hasn't tried to cleanup the phone and instead says "An update is in progress. Wait until it's complete. C101007B" when I look at the update screen in Zune.
I did do the hard reset at the end but not after 7712. Is that a problem?
Thanks!

Perhaps zune is waiting to finish the update or an earlier one.
Have you plugged the phone in and synched anything yet?
I would be tempted to restart zune and see if "in progress" message re-occurs.
I would also hard reset the phone now that you have 7720.
Then possibly re-install zune.

I restarted my computer and ran Zune again. It did find a new update called "Mango ISV beta Bundle: Cleanup" and this time it looks like it was successful!
I'll hard reset my phone now and get immersed in Mango.
Thanks again!
