Makes sense. Just hope it's not something else. One report is speculating the announce being pushed back to December.
some of articles all link back to this one

people are saying it's out of respect for Jobs..that makes sense.
Google's CEO worked on Apples board so it's out if respect for Steve Jobs & they didn't want to destroy the new iPhone 4s with better phone & OS with all its goodies

theres now rumor that the new unveiling will be in london on the 27th of oct.
Androidcentral says why:
http://www.androidcentral.com/samsung-officially
Update: Google's explained why the delay. Works for us.
"We believe this is not the right time to announce a new product as the world expresses tribute to Steve Jobs's passing."
Honestly, it makes sense to me and I don't blame them. I'm just happy I got to see a video of it.
I think it's actually a poor business decision. The business of business is business and business is war. Take every opportunity you can get, and they just gave Apple a big one.

This is a valid point. One would think that Apple had some idea that Jobs was on his way out. It did strike me as a bit strange that they announced this lackluster new device and announced the death of their CEO the very next day. I dunno.
So you are saying steve waited until they release his device to die? Or you are saying they waited one day to give the announcement that he die?

The Nexus was suppose to compete directly with the Iphone 5.
I hear that the Iphone 5 was suppose to have the newer LTE chip which runs cooler and uses less power. My opinion is the Nexus Prime was suppose to compete directly with the iphone 5. If the iphone has the newer chip which is currently being developed it would own the Nexus Prime.
TBH, if Steve Jobs was healthy, would he delay the release of a phone if someone else iconic passed away? Let's say Bill Gates passed away, would Jobs do the same favor? I think not, he would probably do it to steal the thunder.

Seriously is apple really that scared?
I really hope this doesn't delay the Australian release.
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-...samsung-from-selling-tablet-in-australia.html
They must be that scared
you never heard anything from apple until just recently when the android phones and tablets are really starting to challenge apple, they now see android and the companies that make android phones/tabs as a threat and they cant develop iOS fast enough to stay ahead so are now doing all they can to slow the pace of the android train down.
lets be honest iOS has been the same since launch and it really needs a overhaul.
Seriously?! I used to respect apple with there innovation and cutting edge technology but since they began all these lawsuits and injunctions I have totally lost all respect for them and their "big bully boy" attitude towards its competition. Shame on Apple! They must really fear the 10.1 TAB... Maybe alienating themselves from Samsung who made a fair bit of Apple's components wasn't such a good idea....
For now, Apple has successfully blocked the sale of the galaxy tab 10.1 in Australia till the lawsuit is settled. who know how long that is. I really hope samsung blocks the ipad3!
I don't think Apple is scared, the iPad is way too dominate at this point, I just think they're greedy assholes.
Seems like someone in Australia is drinking too much of icoolaid than Foster beer. C'on mate, you need to cool off drinking Foster not icoolaid.

I wouldn't be too sure. Second quarter numbers show that Apple's share of tablets shipped in the second quarter dropped from 96% in 2010 to just over 60% in 2011. Android's market share increased from 2.9% to over 30%.
If that isn't scary to Apple, then they're fools.

Ordered mine online, there weren't any turtleneck wearing Apple agents at customs making sure my Tab 10.1 didn't get to me.
Also, no one in Australia drinks Fosters beer because a) it's horrible and no one in their right mind would drink it and b) it's only sold internationally and you can't actually buy it inside Australia unless you're at an airport or something.

Good for Samsung. TBH, they should just kiss & make up. It would benefit if both sides were to do that in the long run.
The tab is now delayed thanks to Apple. I cant believe they are complaining about "touch and feel" and "finger gestures". The only finger gesture Samsung should give apple is....
http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2011/08/samsung-officially-postpones-galaxy-tab-10-1-launch-event/
It's great, a mate of mine has an iPad 2 and I've got my GT10.1 and we can't see any similarities between either of them when we compare em. They're two entirely different beasts for different consumers.
He had a play around with my Tab and was like "dude, this is so different from what I'm used to with the iPad".
I have an iMac and MBP at home. So an iPhone and load would make alot of media swapping easier. But honestly, Android allows me to design the device interface better for how I need it for quick access on the go.
Apple may find themselves on the other side of those law suits when they finally decide to overhaul their UI. Serious, their iOS5 redesign of notifications has been in Android since 1.0! Watch out Apple.... your doing exactly what you are accusing others of doing to you. All you need is to be the Microsoft of the 2000's .... you recall how you dealt with them right? Next you'll be developing an Android iTunes App and an Android iPhone/iPad.
Tread lightly with all your lawsuits. I came to Apple for home computing because my needs are DJ, remix, and simplicity and great one stop support between the two environments. Don't make me regret trusting you by worrying about only the competition and not your customers

Yeah. I mean... Even if some people won't have a clue what a Galaxy SIII is, they'll still go and check out the phone simply out of curiousity - due to the massive promotion the phone will have worldwide (mentioned during commercial breaks in bumpers, on billboards, on the news, etc.)
I think Samsung has done this as insurance against Apple.
They know very well that Apple, despite using less powerful hardware, will still be able to amaze the masses and pull off decent sales - just because it'll be an iPhone. Apple at this point doesn't need promotion, since the huge mass of their consumers promotes these products on their own - though they may not know it.
Samsung is quickly rising to the top and to maintain the momentum until the next iPhone launches this Fall, and to maintain the sales of the SIII, Samsung will need something. Considering the Olympics are one of the most watched and discussed events on TV, the SIII will sell on its own.
I think that the iPhone 5 is also one of the reasons why the wireless charger has been delayed till September and why the 64GB versions will be launching later (most probably around the same time). Chances are that Apple will unveil their next device, which too will most likely support wireless charging, in September/October as well.

Cupertino believes the Galaxy S III violates at least two patents, one the data tapping patent that's also being leveled against HTC and the other a unified search patent that covers Siri; not surprisingly, Apple isn't keen on that strangely recognizable S Voice interface. A hearing was already scheduled for June 7th and is now taking on a new sense of urgency, at least in Apple's mind: it's arguing that the rumored nine million pre-orders (still unconfirmed) are evidence of the potential damage if the US court lets the dispute slide. Samsung has already said that the injunction call won't affect its rapidly approaching US launches. The company had better hope it's right, or it risks disappointing a lot of early pre-order customers.

whats new with apple. I guess they figure they can't keep doing minor upgrades expecting to steal android customers when Samsung, htc and the likes are coming out with bigger, better devices and the isheep are beginning to see the light on the horizon and the great potential android has and is becoming better everyday version.

Well, you had to know this was coming. S-Voice does sound exactly like Siri. Needs more cupcake answers to crazy questions though.
But seriously, Android has had voice commands for a long time before Siri. Maybe it didn't talk back to you, but at least if you said "Search for XXXX" it would just go ahead and do the search without some dumb robot lady saying, "Do you want me to search for XXXX?"
I watch my wife try to use Siri and the app becomes more and more useless every day. Almost every answer she gives now is "Would you like me to search for the answer to that?" Then my wife tells Sirii to go f#$% herself, and Siri says "Now now, that's not nice" lmao

No, apple did not invent voice actions - but really, samsung didn't have to make s-voice look like such a blatant rip-off of siri - right down to the glowing mic.
Just saying that it could have been designed differently.
I think it has something to do with those 9 million preorders of this beast! Apple used to be a great company until the stopped innovating (after the 1st iphone) and throw all their money to lawyers!
I'm sure Samsung knows what they are doing and prepared for this. They've been sued by Apple already, and making the SGS3 I'm sure they knew what they were doing when they made S Voice, etc.
What is data tapping? Do they mean toggling it?

For the second time in a matter of days, Apple was granted a temporary injunction by a US court banning sales of a Samsung mobile device - this time the Galaxy Nexus smartphone.

This is the first serious blow to google and android. The galaxy tab doesn't count for much of Samsung's overall sales, but the Galaxy Nexus is a popular device (and was the ICS flagship).
If the courts ultimately rule in Apple's favor in regards to the unified search patent, that could have devastating consequences for Google Now and S-Voice. Apple has nothing to lose here, they only had to put up 96 million in bond (chump change) and if the courts rule in favor of google the people who couldn't buy a Nexus (and bought an iPhone instead) will negate much of that

Apple has to put up a bail amount (millions in this case) to the court to ensure Google will be paid for losses if the court case swings the other way and the Galaxy Nexus is found to be non infringing. Once this is paid, then sales should be stopped.

I wish Verizon would hurry up and get their S3 out the door.
From Foss Patents website:
"Apple is now probably going to think about requesting a preliminary injunction against the Galaxy S III smartphone. Earlier this month, Apple wanted to add that device as a second accused product to this process. There were two patents with respect to which Apple believed Samsung's infringement had the same pattern, and the '604 Siri patent was one of them. If Apple moved for a preliminary injunction against the S III now over the Siri patent, it would be very likely to win, but it would have to accept a postponement of the trial of its first lawsuit against Samsung. This is a tough choice to make, but a motion over only one patent wouldn't necessarily cause a huge delay."

Definitely feels like a let down but the initial reports are they are just stopping development. Maybe they will honor the 3 year patch and 2 year OS upgrade promise. I love this phone, flaws and all. If the company sells and the patent portfolio goes, I have zero confidence in any new accessories for this phone. Great idea, poor execution.
While Rubin says Essential will still be around in some form or another, it makes me wonder how much longer they will offer OS/security updates for the phone?
