I thought I would mention this in case anyone else was interested in these findings. I just bought the 8.9 Tab, and according to the Samsung website, their 30 pin USB connector is not compatible with the 8.9 tablet. I even talked with customer service via live chat and they told me the same thing. Didn't make much sense to me, so when I saw one today at Best Buy, I decided to buy it and give it a shot.
Good news is it worked fine for me..I tested with a USB thumb drive and a dell USB keyboard..both worked. Tried my external USB drive, but no luck. For one, its probably the wrong format. For another, the booklet says the connector supports 32GB max and my hdd is 500GB.

Hi all,
JUst looking at moving over to a smaller device for a while. I have another Ameo coming soon and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in purchasing my current model.
Its got some small scratches on the front (not the screen) where the keyboard has rubbed the paint away, 1 on the left above the keyboard and 2 on the right, one above the front facing camera and 1 under the vueflow button (usual) and the charger died yesterday so I have been charging VIA USB.
Apart from that it is a:
T-mobile Ameo. CID unlocked running AP4.00.
It has Igo and TomTom on it both with Euro maps.....the errrr unregistered versions....
I got most of the bits that came in the box apart from the charger.
Comes with the 4-1 Cable for USB host TV out etc.
A TINY little USB hub for it and a mini Trust Wireless mouse.
A 512 Mini SD card
Headset
Spare Stylus
That little Bag thingy (which I found very usefull)
and I still the have t-mobile box with all the bits and docs
PM me if there is interest.
I would accept trade in if anyone has a decent laptop for sale. (I would pay up to a few hundred more for a trade up to a decent Core2 Duo or T64 with dedicated Nvidia or Ati graphics......)

That's a great price!
Hi to all
I had recieved the dock and a good HDMI cable.
I tested in a Toshiba 37WL66Z, perfect video, but no sound, ( In the same tv I have connected my laptop and I have sound ), then I thought that it was the dock or the cable, so I tried this in a second tv I have Toshiba 32AV500P, two years newer that the first, sound ok in both HDMI inputs.( so cable and dock are OK ).
What is going on?, I had searched the net alot, but I have not found a solution, I have read that there are people having the same problem with me, concerning the dock.
Can I do something? is there are different protocolls, that the devices communicate each other in HDMI connections?
Can I made an upgrade or something else?
Thanks in advance
I think the compatibility is not a 100%. I had some troubles when I hooked my Tab. It's unbelievable that there is little to no information about the dock to find while searching on Google! (Troubleshooting)
Yes you are right no info, I had searched everywhere, the tab is a new model, perhaps in the future?, very stange though.
Perhaps the compability problem will be solved with a firmare upgrade?
I cannot found a link to ask Samsung Korea directly to check this matter, because a lot af us have the same issue.
If anyone knows a link to them?
I connected my dock, the tab makes a connected sound, but the tv doesn't recognize the dock, so no sound or video.

Ah. that's exactly the problem I had. This is the routine that usually resolves it.
1. Reboot Tab for a fresh start
2. Hook up the dock to power. (Apparently this is required)
3. Dock the tab.
4. Make sure it shows as "charging".
5. Plugin the HDMI cable. (make sure you don't move the dock too much! the connection is crappy and very easily loosened)
Thank you friend. I suspected I would need the power cable. I got one off ebay yesterday.
You have to add #6 to the steps: hold tongue out to the left side at a 30 degree angle. ;^)
Is it possible to connect USB hard drives to the phone to access its files? I think I read something like that in a review a few days ago. It really got me wondering. I think the reviewer said the Nokia N8 also has this feature. Can anybody confirm?
There is a youtube video showing this, its several weeks old (searching for galaxy S2 usb host should bring it up, at work so can't get into youTube to supply you a link).
Thanks a lot! Seems to work just fine!
Here's the video if anyone needs it:

Yep, looks good. I purchased an el-cheapo adapter from Ebay to try out when I get my SGSII in a week or so (its been confirmed to work with the Xoom, so hopefully will work here too, the official ones aren't slated for release until June).
Be interesting to know whether it will do more than just USB drives - USB keyboard/mouse/gamepad support would be nice too!

It seems working smoothly with a probably FAT32 usb stick, the question is would it do the same with an ext3 (don't even dare to ask NTFS...) external hard drive?
Go to the accessories forum and look at my thread there on USB OTG - my video is a lot better than the one shared in this thread FWIW.
Hi Guys,
I bought a Noosy U-disk (4 gb of space + acts as a microSD card reader) for my N10 and I'm disappointed that nexus media importer doesn't do anything when I plug it in. It just says "connecting......waiting for media" and I can never access the files on it.
I bought this thing b/c of it's potential utility with it's microUSB on one side + USB/Card reader on the other. I am desperate to get this working since I am constantly on the run in the hospital and need fast access to my notes & guidelines without eating up all my storage. I'm not interested in rooting b/c I have it set up perfectly and don't want to redo all that redownloading of apps etc...and I don't know what I'm doing lol.
It works PERFECTLY with my Galaxy S3, however.
Thanks and I really appreciate it.
(Note: I also bought a couple of OTG cables but they are taking FOREVER to arrive since they are coming from China)
attached is a pic of my U-disk
Hi there sa278. First of all, if it's working with the samsung galaxy S3, we can all guess where is the problem. However, if you want to root your device, there's a method that won't erase your data, and it is automatically, fast and accurate. Look in the forum for superboot, you just need to install the drivers, and double click a .bat file, the rest is up to the program.
I have to say that nexus media importer will let you use the permission of "write" (plus the ones that you have on non-rooted) by rooting your device, but that's not necessary in your case (non-rooted device can only read and execute).
You can give it a try, but it's pretty weird. Have you tried with any other usb? Goodluck!
Sorry for my english
The developer for NMI is very responsive if you email him. I bought the same U-disk device and could only get the built in drive to work, not the card reader. The developer and I emailed for several days and tried to get it to work. Rooting won't help you get the u-disk to work. We tried that as well. I ended up buying a micro-usb microsd card reader instead from aliexpress that works perfectly with NMI.

Do you mind posting a link to the micro-usb microSD card reader you are currently using from aliexpress? I was really hoping this U-disk would work...how disappointing
Thank you.

No problem. This solved my problem of storing movies on my Nexus 10. This is the link: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/USB-OTG-Connection-Kit-MicroB-MicroSD-Card-Reader-for-Cellphone-PC-Smartphone-free-shipping/701881177.html. It works perfectly and is small enough not to interfere with the headphone jack.
Not working anymore
I just recently got NMI for my Nexus 7 and using my OTG cable i was able to use my Seagate 1tB external to view movies and music but now when i connect it i keep getting a Connecting USB Device /dev/bus/usb/002/002 Waiting for Media that lasts forever...any ideas?
Hey everyone I'm doing a car install of a galaxy tab a 7.0 and I have a joycon usb controller and flash drive I need plugged in to a powered otg hub I have. Everything works great but my hub only has a switch that goes between charge OR otg not both. Is there a kernel or custom otg cable someone can guide me to to make this possible?
Thanks!
-Dave
Hi there,
Ditto for me. Have it working on Nexus 7 2013 and hoping to do the same on the Tab A (SM-T285). How far have you got? I'm about to setup a breadboard with a pot on pins 4 + 5 as a standard 100k doesn't seem to do it.
OTG simultaneous charging
Hi
I have the same requirement, apparently one needs a custom kernel where this is enabled. Have anyone made progress on this ?
Dang, saw this thread and hoped for more information. I am testing out an SM-P580 to replace my Nexus 7 (2012) and need to see if OTG and charging work together. I am hoping to find some time later this week to connect it up to the car and see what works and what does not. The biggest headache is the charger port is reversed compared to the port on the Nexus 7, so currently, I cannot see the screen to test anything. Hoping that OTG + Charging will work, because at that point then things (hopefully) get easier and I just need to fabricate mounting the tablet in the dash.
Fitting a 10" tablet while making it look at least semi stock is not going to be the easiest thing in the world, so I am hopeful of getting everything working before starting to tear my car apart.

Did you find a solution? Which device did you use instead of Nexus 7?

Nothing yet, the Samsung I have did not work with OTG + charging and I did not want to pay $50 for an adapter that has so so reviews at best. At the moment I am getting set to try an LG G-Pad 8.0, which I am fairly confident will work as it has 2 USB ports, a full sized and a micro. The only problems I can see with this are that the USB ports are on opposite ends of the device, which might make it difficult to actually integrate into my dash, I am debating removing the rear cover and seeing if I can relocate the full size USB port or both to plug into the back instead of the top/bottom. The other problem is, for this particular model at least, finding any updated ROM's / root is proving difficult. It's an LG UK-495, would be cool to find some ROM's and possible SIM unlock it as well, I could the put a Google Fi chip in there and use it for calls right from the dash.
