Cannot turn to standby (screen off) - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hello all,
I have a problem with SGS1 (T-Mobile brand) of my colleague. It cannot turn into standby (screen off). After trying to go to standby it promtly turns display on. This is happening if I try to turn off screen by lock button or time delay pass. Can anybody help me with this please (without hard-reset)?
EDIT: No lock-screen apps etc. has been installed.

If you let the display timeout happen does the screen turn off properly then?
What ROM?

Official 2.3.3.
Now it is solved. It seems it was some sort of SW bug related to dryed battery which was very low when this starts happening. So after some minutes on charger is everything OK.

So the only way to go to sleep is to press the power off button? This might drain the battery if you forget to do that. What if the device is waken up when there is a new email? It won't go back to sleep after that?

You are not the only one who has noticed this.
Obviously there's a registry hack to alter the settings but you would still have the same problem albeit with different settings.

[Q] Screen fade after few second - should turn off

After official KK update when I leave my phone with unlock screen it fade down, and instead turning off it stay fade down.
When double tap it, or press power screen turn off.
I'm thinking its some kind of software setting - but can't find any.
I have 15sec till screen turn off but it fade after 11 seconds and stay that way. I tried cover sensors with hand but same thing.
Im on stock KK, D802.
Display > Auto off, bright 60%, Screen Saver 15sec, Screen saver: fade, auto rotate: on, dream settings: off, smart screen: off, smart video: off, led: on
When i turn off screen saver it dosn't fade.
When I change screen saver effect it just fade, so it looks like screen saver is broken in KK ?
Anyone ?

The brightness thing is what really annoys me. When you turn the screen on, it's always at minimum and you have to wait a second before it brightens up!

I think that is the stock ROM bug. I am on 20a version, can someone confirm this with stock ROM newer version? Did LG fixed this?
Have a similar problem with my SGS3 and drives me crazy.
Does this also happen when using double tap and the hardware power button too?

Screen won't turn off automatically?

In the past week or so, my screen will not automatically go to sleep at all. I always have to press power button to manually turn it off even though I have screen timeout set to 1 minute.
There are times when I wake up and the screen has been on overnight due to a popup notification.
Any help?
Possible problem with the proximity sensor?

How would I test that?
I think there is a proximity test app on the Play store.
