I have a BELL Desire Z which I rooted, S-Off and then flashed with the HTC Sense ROM from Paul O'brien. I am having more issues than anything so I want to know how I get back to the stock ROM.
I take it you dont have a nandroid backup? You could try that RUU method, it usually restores your self back to stock. I have my stock nandroid iimage lying around if ya need it.
Sent from HTC Desire Z using XDA App
The bell rom posted is .1, not the .5 version that's shipped.. so I don't think it's the same. So the RUU method wouldn't work..
I did a backup, but will it reset all my personal settings etc?
Is there a stock released ROM from HTC or bell or even an update on the way?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Be careful ! Do not try to flash an RUU that is older than the ROM you have, if you have S-OFF or you could end up bricking your phone - see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838484
You can use the "debranding" guide in the dev forum to go back to an older ROM if you have S-OFF.
In about it says the software is 1.34.405.5
What do I need to do exactly to get back to stock safely.

If your current ROM is 1.34.405.5, then you should be able to safely use either the stock 1.34.405.5 RUU, or the ROM extracted from that.
It's if you're trying to flash a ROM with a lower version number than that you're already running, if you're S-OFF, that you'll run into problems.
Thanks for the info, is there anywhere to download the stock Bell ROM from? Alot of these threads are confusing for a n00b like myself with all the abbreviations and different versions.
I basically want to get back to stock, root the phone, delete the bloatware and overclock it.
I was wondering... if you made a nandroid backup after having done some app installations and such of the stock rom, and you flashed back to that backup, you'd have your original ROM with all the app installations and settings you set right? What happens if you then proceed to do a factory reset? Does the ROM revert back to stock? Or does it simply revert back to the state of the ROM when you made the backup?

Although several stock ROMs are on this forum, unfortunately it looks like the current Bell ROM isn't there, only an older one. It would obviously be very useful if someone could get hold of it and upload it.
You can do a factory reset to set everything back to how your ROM came initially, if it's still on the stock ROM. But if you want to delete the bloatware and overclock etc, you may well be better flashing a different ROM, have a look and see what ones sound good.
My question is sort of along the line of that of the OP, since I'm somewhat new to this process still I hope you'll humor me. I've done a ton of reading, but I still have a few q's I couldn't seem to find buried in my research...
I have a Bell Desire Z, unlocked, rooted, S-OFF. I installed ClockWork & flashed the recovery partition and did a nandroid backup of my stock Bell partition. I then did a wipe / install of the non-sense G2 ROM Paul put out and have been using it (and enjoying it) quite a bit.
I think I'd like to try a Cyanogen ROM now, is it really just as simple as flashing the RC3 (doing a complete wipe, obviously) and then I'm good to go? I can then just restore apps/settings with Titanium...
If I want to revert back to my original Bell ROM, do I just restore that ROM from the nandroid backup I made as soon as I installed ClockWork?
If I'm on Pauls G2 Rom (or Cyanogen's ROM), and I do a 'factory wipe', that just resets the factory settings of that particular ROM right? It wouldn't take me back to the stock Bell ROM would it? (very sorry if this seems noobish)
Thanks folks.
Anyone?

Yes, you can wipe and flash Cyanogen. Yes, you can restore apps with Titanium. However, I don't yet understand how this works with "system"-type apps. e.g. what if you are using a different SMS app in Cyanogen to the stock ROM, can you restore your messages ? Of course if you are restoring an app that you installed on your stock ROM, to the Cyanogen ROM then Titanium should do it fine.

Yes, it just takes you back to the factory settings for that ROM that you're currently on. It won't take you back to the original ROM that came with your phone if you've switched to something else.

You're welcome. I was pretty confused by what Titanium did at first, until I actually came to use it (along with a Nandroid backup) to do a backup of all my stuff and restore (using Nandroid) after I'd temporarily reverted to an earlier ROM.
I need to revert back to the stock Bell Desire Z ROM as well but didn't make a backup.
Hi,
I have following problem:
Yesterday i tryed to follow the unroot and S-on guide but it was late and i flashed the g2 rom to my Desire z.
Now i cant recover back to my stock sense rom. Every time i try, i am stuck at the htc splash screen.
I've tried serveral other e.g CM7 rc0, some Stock Htc roms, and 2 other rom.
The only Rom that is working is the virtuos rom, it showes me in Settings->Phone identity->Model Number "tmobile-g2" i think thats the problem why i cant flash back to another rom.
Can someone help mi please fix this?
Thanks in advance and sorry for my english.

You can use any of the custom ROMs, doesn't matter if it is a G2 or DZ. Have you used all of the wipe functions in the recovery before flashing a new ROM?
Hi,
The problem was that i flashed the g2 stock rom...
I changed my clockwork recovery version from 3.0.0.0 to 2.5.1.1 and i was able to restore to my old backup.
But i have 3 more Problems now. I have no Settings and no on screen keyboard and can't root (every time i try sense restarts and then my phone crashes).
I am trying now to install a RUU to get everything back to stock.
Use a pc10img.zip to restore everything back to stock.

I've tried but hboot posts me "lack of heap!"
Finally I purchased a Desire HD on Tmobile without any contract ( I Paid just for the phone) Waoow things did change a lot since all the roms I tried on my beloved HTC Blueangel.
It is locked on T Mobile
SW 1.39.110.1 Is this the latest rom? Although so far It didnt bother me all the bloatware from T Mobile, Is it worth leaving them alone ? I know it is possible to debrand desire and unlock etc. Is it also possible to Debrand Desire HD and unlock and flash with HTC Stock rom? Or shall I just not bother?
And also realised some of the HTC things dont work well HTC HUB unable to download catalog etc. Any reason?
Hi,
I got mine on monday afternoon, coming from a Desire.
By Tuesday morning it was Rooted running Leedroid's Rom, wow what a difference.
Only thing I dont like so far, (yes the screen is not as sharp/colourfull, but you do get used to it, it's just when they are side by side you really notice it), is that the ringtone etc is a little on the quiet side.
Apart from that, what a piece of hardware.
Good luck whatever you do, just enjoy it.
Cheers
Been reading on leedroids thread, Although it is easy to follow the instructions, I just would like to know what is permaroot s-off etc mean?

Woohoo
Since I got my new phone I can not stop reading
I completed visionary temp perm root
And S off unlock etc etc. checked at the boot S -off is there so now my existing orange sim works on this tmobile branded DHD all good.
I have done all this in order to actually put a stock rom on to my new phone without any tmobile bloatware on it.
Now the my phone is ready for a ROM
Can I just put HTC stock rom ? If I do will I be able to install a custom rom later on ? Would I loose root or any other features so far?
Many regards
If you're going to all that trouble, why bother with the stock ROM when LeeDRoid has created (and supports) a truely great custom ROM 1.51? Highly recommend it, as he has made it with a custom kernal allowing easy OC or UC with SetCPU & Smartass governor.
You made need to ENG S-off before flashing the recommended radio though. But make sure you do a full backup with ROM Manger and also copy full sdcard to PC first.
Thanks for your answer, I dunno why I kinda want to keep it stock for a little while before I start flashing with Developers excellent roms

Good idea. Then you will actually appreciate the advantages of leedroid when you get around to flashing it. Flash it straight away and you won't really know what the difference is.

Someone Swyped my idea.
If I was to flash with stock rom later on can I flash it to Leedroids rom later? As I read stock 1.72 2.2.1 somehow deroots and makes changes so can not flash it to custom roms ? Is that right ?If so what do you think my next step ?

As far as I know, you have to downgrade to 1.32 first.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
Then root again s-off with visionary, you can then upgrade to a custom rom & kernal (over/underclock CPU).
Some ROM are optimized to work with certain raidios (battery / reception performance, so to flash the suggested one, you'll need to Eng s-off as well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841076
All worked for me
on the first link about downgrade it says!
System requirements:
HTC Sync (or ADB drivers)
Desire HD with build number 1.72 or higher
Not sure how this is related to me as mine is currently on 1.39

OK, I got you, the post wasn't that clear. Your now stock 1.39 considering upgrade to 1.72 or other OTA update / ROM?
If you upgrade OTA, it will "unroot" your phone, and then you'll have to follow the steps (or some of) I outlined in my previous post. That is if you wish to have root again.
If you wish to upgrade and have root, best bet would be to just install a custom 1.78 ROM and kernal to match.
Yes, for now I just want to upgrade to stock HTC 1.72 and perhaps later flash a custom Rom as I am not very clues up on Android devices ( coming from wm environment) as my previous post what should be my next step ( clean HTC stock Rom ) ?

How do I check my CID ? I cant seem to see it in the bootloader screen ? and anyone know what simlock image crc etc do?
I'd recommend getting permanent root (visionary), eng s-off AND radio s-off, install rom manager from market and flash clockwork mod recovery from it, and then there is a guide on here to upgrade to 1.72 without losing root, by flashing it through clockwork mod.
Still, the easier option is to install a custom rom since those will obviously not try to unroot your phone.

From Fastboot menu -> Bootloader -> System Info
If Super CID, should have CID-11111111, meaning carrier ID unlocked, enabling flashing of ROM other than carrier specific (I think).
Image CRC - not too sure, possibly checksum of certain working harware, radio etc?????????? Anyone?
For the dutch who want to root there 1.72 DHD....
hypervortex . com/?p=50
For non-dutch...google translate
It's a really great written artikle on how to downgrade and root your DHD
Thanks,
Now rooted, s-off and eng s-off and debranded

Hi, so I've been reading the forums for a while, trying to figure out how to root my DHD correctly, as well as installing a custom ROM..
I have Software Number 1.37.771.3
I assume this does not need to be downgraded, but just want assurance. Alll the downgrades need to be from 1.72.XXX.X
What is the most popular custom ROM to install?
What does flashing new radios do? And are they necessary?
What does S-Off do?
How will I be able to install my stock ROM back once I install a custom rom?
I know some of these question can be found by searching, but some parts are not clear to me.
Thanks.
Hiya, 1.37 does not need to be downgraded so you CAN root that.
The most popular roms I believe are either ARHD or rcmix hd (but it is down to personal preference, some roms give you things some others don't/can't)
Once you install a custom rom, sometimes you need to install a different radio to get better battery life, gps signal etc etc.
Radio s-off gives you the ability to install a custom Rom on Ur dhd, I'm not sure if its true but I think it is a MUST if you wanna install a Rom.
Eng s-off is needed to flash a radio, but you only have to have eng s-off if you wanna flash a radio.
You can just radio s-off to install a custom Rom and not have to have eng s-off to install a radio.
You can get back to stock by flashing the branded/unbranded ruu through your computer (its easier that way, I had trouble doing it through SD card last night, just run the exe. File through computer and follow the commands) , it will get rid of custom Rom, eng s-off, custom recovery and root all in one go, so all you need to do after is temp root and radio s-on, and you should be back to stock. Or you can do a nandroid backup (someone jump in cos not too clear on this point either)
If anyone wants to jump in and say if I got it wrong please do, but that's what I done last night.
Is your handset branded by any chance mate?
Cos what I done last night was flash the WWE unbranded Rom and now I'm unbranded, cos I used to be branded by vodafone, now all the vodafone crap and stuff has gone from mine.
Oh also you might wanna check before you start whether u can get your hands on a branded Rom cos if you have trouble with handset and need to send it back then your gonna wanna get it completely back to normal.
Anyway hope this helped and if you need anything there's lots of people on here that will help you as best they can.

The most popular ROM is probably either LeeDroid HD, Android Revolution HD or CyanogenMod
Flashing a different radio is not usually required but can give you better performance.
S-off lets you install custom ROMs of your DHD, you cant flash a radio and Im pretty sure you cant flash a ROM without S-off.
The stock ROM (version 1.32.405.6) can be downloaded from CyanogenMods downloads page. Link
This might be useful too. Link
Also HTC Ace was the codename for the Desire HD so if you see HTC Ace anywhere its the right phone.
ARHD 3.5 has just been released.

But we all in the same boat innit, just don't start too many threads on it cos you'll end up getting a warning like me, it was harsh but I'm gonna have to accept it looool anyways good luck and if u need any help just ask.

It depends what you wanna do, if you wanna unbrand your phone use the WWE ruu, if you wanna return Ur phone back to the way it was then use a official 3 branded Rom, and as you know if you want a particular custom Rom then just flash one of those.
I got my WWE ruu from xmoo's thread, it has a whole list of different ruu versions, so just pick the one you want but I suggest going for the 1.32 xx3 cos you can still root that version if you wanted to.

Hi all,
I am in need of some help I had a Branded DHD on 3, which I unlocked for my DAD who is on Vodafone it was working for a good 3 weeks then either said no sim inserted or lost signal a simple power off and back on seemed to fix it.
However more recently it has given up all together no signal and now wi-fi issues.
The phone was rooted and running ICS The Collective rom , my Dad did not like it so I put on a sense 3.5 rom and as above was running no problem up until now can anyone advise me if indeed it does need a new radio or is there a simple fix?
I have searched long and hard for a solution but nothing if anyone could help it would be great !!:good:

Does this mean its un rooted again? so I will now need to start again?
It's not un-rooted but S-ON means the security flag is ON. You need to use the AAHK to install an ENG H-Boot with S-OFF, if you want it. It's not really necessary though. The easiest way to flash a radio is through AAHK, if you have no experience of going it before. Read through the AAHK manual fully before doing it. You can't just flash radios in recovery.
It seems you already have the latest radio from the last world wide update for the DHD. I'm going to link you to a newer version, try that and tell me if it fixes your issues. If that doesn't work, I'll link you to an older version which might work. Radios work differently for everyone, depending on the frequencies used in their countries. So it's not a case of 'newer is better' for radios.
New radio (12.68.60.29_26.16.04.09_M) - http://goo.gl/V06BH
Old radio (12.62.60.27_26.13.04.19_M) - http://goo.gl/jnxBx
Just one thing, BEFORE you flash any of the above radios, just download the corresponding RIL for your 26.14.04.28 radio and flash it in recovery. Run your phone for some time and see if it makes a difference. If you're running a Sense ROM, you need to flash the corresponding RIL for a radio, not so for AOSP ROMs like CyanogenMod/AOKP. Similarly, if you flash any of the above radios, flash their corresponding RILs too (I can't find a link to the RIL for the newer radio, but you can flash one for the older radio). You can get RILs from the link below.

What you are trying to ask is that you are unable to boot into recovery? have you lost your recovery? or you are not having an option in bootloader to go into recovery?
Have you done the superCID thing? I don't know how to do it exactly but there are guides. Search for them. I'm guessing that may be your issue.
