My New Desire HD - Desire HD General

Finally I purchased a Desire HD on Tmobile without any contract ( I Paid just for the phone) Waoow things did change a lot since all the roms I tried on my beloved HTC Blueangel.
It is locked on T Mobile
SW 1.39.110.1 Is this the latest rom? Although so far It didnt bother me all the bloatware from T Mobile, Is it worth leaving them alone ? I know it is possible to debrand desire and unlock etc. Is it also possible to Debrand Desire HD and unlock and flash with HTC Stock rom? Or shall I just not bother?
And also realised some of the HTC things dont work well HTC HUB unable to download catalog etc. Any reason?

Hi,
I got mine on monday afternoon, coming from a Desire.
By Tuesday morning it was Rooted running Leedroid's Rom, wow what a difference.
Only thing I dont like so far, (yes the screen is not as sharp/colourfull, but you do get used to it, it's just when they are side by side you really notice it), is that the ringtone etc is a little on the quiet side.
Apart from that, what a piece of hardware.
Good luck whatever you do, just enjoy it.
Cheers

Been reading on leedroids thread, Although it is easy to follow the instructions, I just would like to know what is permaroot s-off etc mean?

I've noticed the same thing, I've heard that HTC are working on the Hub. Congratulations on a great purchase and welcome to the DHD community.

Woohoo
Since I got my new phone I can not stop reading
I completed visionary temp perm root
And S off unlock etc etc. checked at the boot S -off is there so now my existing orange sim works on this tmobile branded DHD all good.
I have done all this in order to actually put a stock rom on to my new phone without any tmobile bloatware on it.
Now the my phone is ready for a ROM
Can I just put HTC stock rom ? If I do will I be able to install a custom rom later on ? Would I loose root or any other features so far?
Many regards

If you're going to all that trouble, why bother with the stock ROM when LeeDRoid has created (and supports) a truely great custom ROM 1.51? Highly recommend it, as he has made it with a custom kernal allowing easy OC or UC with SetCPU & Smartass governor.
You made need to ENG S-off before flashing the recommended radio though. But make sure you do a full backup with ROM Manger and also copy full sdcard to PC first.

Thanks for your answer, I dunno why I kinda want to keep it stock for a little while before I start flashing with Developers excellent roms

Good idea. Then you will actually appreciate the advantages of leedroid when you get around to flashing it. Flash it straight away and you won't really know what the difference is.
-----
Someone Swyped my idea.

If I was to flash with stock rom later on can I flash it to Leedroids rom later? As I read stock 1.72 2.2.1 somehow deroots and makes changes so can not flash it to custom roms ? Is that right ?If so what do you think my next step ?

As far as I know, you have to downgrade to 1.32 first.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
Then root again s-off with visionary, you can then upgrade to a custom rom & kernal (over/underclock CPU).
Some ROM are optimized to work with certain raidios (battery / reception performance, so to flash the suggested one, you'll need to Eng s-off as well.

All worked for me

on the first link about downgrade it says!
System requirements:
HTC Sync (or ADB drivers)
Desire HD with build number 1.72 or higher
Not sure how this is related to me as mine is currently on 1.39

OK, I got you, the post wasn't that clear. Your now stock 1.39 considering upgrade to 1.72 or other OTA update / ROM?
If you upgrade OTA, it will "unroot" your phone, and then you'll have to follow the steps (or some of) I outlined in my previous post. That is if you wish to have root again.
If you wish to upgrade and have root, best bet would be to just install a custom 1.78 ROM and kernal to match.

Yes, for now I just want to upgrade to stock HTC 1.72 and perhaps later flash a custom Rom as I am not very clues up on Android devices ( coming from wm environment) as my previous post what should be my next step ( clean HTC stock Rom ) ?

How do I check my CID ? I cant seem to see it in the bootloader screen ? and anyone know what simlock image crc etc do?

I'd recommend getting permanent root (visionary), eng s-off AND radio s-off, install rom manager from market and flash clockwork mod recovery from it, and then there is a guide on here to upgrade to 1.72 without losing root, by flashing it through clockwork mod.
Still, the easier option is to install a custom rom since those will obviously not try to unroot your phone.

From Fastboot menu -> Bootloader -> System Info
If Super CID, should have CID-11111111, meaning carrier ID unlocked, enabling flashing of ROM other than carrier specific (I think).
Image CRC - not too sure, possibly checksum of certain working harware, radio etc?????????? Anyone?

For the dutch who want to root there 1.72 DHD....
hypervortex . com/?p=50
For non-dutch...google translate
It's a really great written artikle on how to downgrade and root your DHD

Thanks,
Now rooted, s-off and eng s-off and debranded

Well you can wait for official froyo and update, or you can install roms now when there are plenty of good froyo roms already, which become updated on the release of official froyo.
Overclocking can't brick your phone, don't set it to max as it becomes unstable. I duno about language, ask the devs. Nandroid = take a backup of your entire rom (phone memory), sd card back up is obvious, titanium backup = taking a backup of all your apps and settings and storing it on your sd card so you can restore it back.
Yes you can unroot by dling any RUU from www.shipped-roms/shipped/Buzz -> Connect phone to computer with usb debugging on and run the RUU which is an .exe file. Then root with unrevoked.
How do I know which RUU to pick? And wtf is clockwork mod? And radio?
And going to recovery? Anyway so would u guys recommend rooting?

RUU picking is very simple just look for the version number 2.1.x eclair 2.2.x froyo
and pick the one u want.
Clockwork mod is a utility for installing the roms and make back-ups of ur current rom with all you settings and files and everything.
I would definitely recommend rooting your phone cuz it allows u to take the most out of ur phone overclocking, live wallpapers (depends on ROM) and lots of other stuff
Good luck deciding

Oops i accidentally clicked the thanks button for you. LOL
Check which software version is. Usually in Menu -> About phone (or something similar). If the RUU of your version is not there, i would recommend dling a similar one to yours, or a WWE one. To go to clockworkmod (recovery menu). Hold down trackpad and press power button to turn on phone. This is where you can flash new roms, kernels etc (by going to Install zip from sd card). Kernels are ... special thingies for your phone that make it awesome, like Jacob's overclock kernel.
No rooting does not decrease your battery life, i wonder where you got that from :|

Hi, you have to copy the ROM's to the sdcard path, not in a folder.
You need an overclock kernel to overclock if you have a ROM wich doesn't have it. Usually, the Custom ROM's you can find on xda already have overclock kernels, so you don't have to flash one. If you want to overclock the stock HTC ROM, you will flash a new kernel.
Overclocking definitely improves the performance of the phone. You don't need to set it to 768 MHZ instead of the original 518. With just 576 (or less) for example, there is a big difference!

sdcard path? lol I really don't understand anything What about the radios? what do they do? And btw i coulnd't find buzz/wildfire RUU from shipped roms ANd when I root and if i don't install any rom will it just use the stock rom?
And do i need to install titanium back up and the nandroid thing before i root?
The ROM can be placed anywhere, on the root of the sd card, or in a folder. doesn't matter. all you do to flash it is go to 'Install zip from sd card' and then select the rom.
You can only install titanium backup after you root, and you can only do nandroid backups via clockworkmod (recovery) which is available when you root (using unrevoked).

1. SDCARD: I mean just in the sdcard, not in a folder inside the sd card.
2. Do not care about the Radio. The cooked ROM's will usually work. The Radio ROM contains the drivers for the communication devices of your phone. Some ROM's need one or more specific Radio ROM's to work properly. Usually the chef, who created the ROM recommends a Radio ROM. But don't mind, if your Radio Rom does not match, you can always flash another without needing to flash the ROM containing the Operating System (OS) again.
3. http://www.shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Buzz (You will ask which one you have to download, tell me where are you from)
4. When you root, you can keep using the stock ROM, but rooted (so privileges). You don't need to flash another ROM if you don't want to

Why isn't rooting and custom ROMs as easy as the standard Desire!?

I've done a fair few flashes with my Desire and always found it quite easy to follow and do, but I am so, so, so confused about how to go about attacking the HTC Desire.
Essentially, I want to root it and install a custom ROM (maybe change a radio, that's it). However, there is no set of instructions in any one thread, it's all over the place.
So far, i've managed to permroot my brothers phone using Visionary. Now, the next step is getting Clockwork Recovery. However, there seems to be two version 2.x (installed by ROM manager) and version 3.x. Apparently the former doesn't work for CM7... but I cannot find how to actually get Clockwork 3.x installed (easily...).
What are the most popular DesireHD ROMs and do they all require Clockwork 3.x? Also, what is S-Off... and do I need it!?
Because standard Desire does not have nearly as tight security as DHD has. You need S-OFF to get clockworkmod, and if you want to flash CWM 3.x, you need ENG S-OFF. Only gingerbread roms need CWM 3.x.
S-OFF: Phone security off, internal memory becomes read/write, you can flash anything you want, no version checks etc.

I suppose so. So basically, the steps are:
Root phone - Done
S-Off/Eng S-Off
Install Clockwork Mod
Install ROM
The bit I find trouble with is how to do the clockwork mod bit. It seems like CM is the best DHD ROM, but that requires Clockwork Recovery 3.whatever and to get that installed you have to go through a ton of SDK stuff. Is there an easy way to get it installed?

Simple answer, no.
Please try following the advice you are being given and search the development forum, if your not willing/able to devote the time to reading up on S-OFF and installing CM7 please leave well alone and save us all a little time
To be honest I think that dhd is quite easy to root. You have one click tool in stickies so really a monkey could do it.

Yeah, downgrading makes it a bit harder, true. But after downgrading it is a breeze.

I wouldn't hold your breathe, whilst there is a simple-ish downgrade route the chances of anyone going to the great effort of needlessly finding and exploiting a new security flaw are remote. Anyone desperate for root will probably take the downgrade route and anyone unable to grasp the steps involved would probably be better served by a stock rom
I'm looking forward for an automatic tool to downgrade...Jkoljo

Tech support, without root access you are unlikely to do anything terminal to your DHD software wise, so that should limit your tech support to hardware issues. With root access ham fisted people are returning phones with user inflicted software problems

Revert Back to Telus 1.84 ROM

Hello
I'm trying to revert my phone back to the stock ROM from telus. I've downgraded to 1.32 and gave up when i found out that sound on the desire HD doesnt work on CM7.
How do I revert back?
ive searched the forum and tht's all ive found
" just flash a stock RUU? That uses your PC to flash your phone, not bootloader."
any help would be appreciated. Where do i get the RUU file and how do i go about doing this.
A $10 paypal donation will given to anyone who helps. i really need to get the phone back, its my girlfriend's. (
btw i have turned S-air off and done a perm-root with visionary already.. how do i get the cherry back in place?lol
You can flash either Raidroid in clockworkmod, or use Telus RUU. Android Revolution HD is also a good (the best) option if you want performance and good battery life.
Raidroid is a stock ROM that will keep your root and S-OFF, so it is easy to flash a custom ROM in the future. RUU will revert your phone to stock, Radio S-OFF will remain if you used it. Android Revolution HD is the best custom ROM out there. Every option gives you working sound.

Nope, Telus users are reporting that it works great. Some users have had small microphone echo while using it, but that can be fixed by flashing a simple zip in clockworkmod just like you would flash a ROM.

ok, i'll try android revolution hd. Earlier today when i checked the terminal was showing the # instead of $. now when i checked, its back to $. I went on visionary app again, did a temp root and perm root, and checked the terminal again but its still showing the $ sign.
i don't know what the build number is for, but its now on 1.32. I wanna go back to the 1.84. I've noticed that the revolution HD has the 'official HTC RUU 1.84.61.2', so in the process of flashing the ROM, 1.84 should be back, right??
I'm a little bit confused about baseband versions and md5 checksums. mine is 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M. which radio version should i flash with?
I'm totally new to this and I hope to get working by tomorrow night. I really appreciate your help, donation will definitely be made once i get this thing working. i couldnt pick up any calls today..lol

Android Revolution works perfect, and has lots of customization options.
In case you still want Cyanogen, CM7 nightly build 12 worked just fine on my Telus... It has the sound fix built in to it.

Thanks a lot

After you flash a ROM with 1.84, you'll be back on 1.84
I wouldn't mess around with radio just yet, it works fine using stock Telus radio. If you notice battery drain or reception issue then flash the recommended radio.

ok so i'm running revolution HD right now, and the in-call sound quality is really bothering. I've installed that zip file mentioned above that is "supposed" to fix it but still the same
Are you running CM7 on yours?hows the incall sound quality? i might revert back to the stock ROM. Its weird how a slightly modified stock ROM is giving such an issue.

Noob questions.

Hi, so I've been reading the forums for a while, trying to figure out how to root my DHD correctly, as well as installing a custom ROM..
I have Software Number 1.37.771.3
I assume this does not need to be downgraded, but just want assurance. Alll the downgrades need to be from 1.72.XXX.X
What is the most popular custom ROM to install?
What does flashing new radios do? And are they necessary?
What does S-Off do?
How will I be able to install my stock ROM back once I install a custom rom?
I know some of these question can be found by searching, but some parts are not clear to me.
Thanks.
Hiya, 1.37 does not need to be downgraded so you CAN root that.
The most popular roms I believe are either ARHD or rcmix hd (but it is down to personal preference, some roms give you things some others don't/can't)
Once you install a custom rom, sometimes you need to install a different radio to get better battery life, gps signal etc etc.
Radio s-off gives you the ability to install a custom Rom on Ur dhd, I'm not sure if its true but I think it is a MUST if you wanna install a Rom.
Eng s-off is needed to flash a radio, but you only have to have eng s-off if you wanna flash a radio.
You can just radio s-off to install a custom Rom and not have to have eng s-off to install a radio.
You can get back to stock by flashing the branded/unbranded ruu through your computer (its easier that way, I had trouble doing it through SD card last night, just run the exe. File through computer and follow the commands) , it will get rid of custom Rom, eng s-off, custom recovery and root all in one go, so all you need to do after is temp root and radio s-on, and you should be back to stock. Or you can do a nandroid backup (someone jump in cos not too clear on this point either)
If anyone wants to jump in and say if I got it wrong please do, but that's what I done last night.
Is your handset branded by any chance mate?
Cos what I done last night was flash the WWE unbranded Rom and now I'm unbranded, cos I used to be branded by vodafone, now all the vodafone crap and stuff has gone from mine.
Oh also you might wanna check before you start whether u can get your hands on a branded Rom cos if you have trouble with handset and need to send it back then your gonna wanna get it completely back to normal.
Anyway hope this helped and if you need anything there's lots of people on here that will help you as best they can.
Good luck ;-)

The most popular ROM is probably either LeeDroid HD, Android Revolution HD or CyanogenMod
Flashing a different radio is not usually required but can give you better performance.
S-off lets you install custom ROMs of your DHD, you cant flash a radio and Im pretty sure you cant flash a ROM without S-off.
The stock ROM (version 1.32.405.6) can be downloaded from CyanogenMods downloads page. Link
This might be useful too. Link
Also HTC Ace was the codename for the Desire HD so if you see HTC Ace anywhere its the right phone.
ARHD 3.5 has just been released.
This was exactly the thread I was looking for, I've been reading these forums for the last week trying to get my head around all the information. Im guessing once you understand all the procedures it starts coming a bit more naturally, doing my first flash tomorrow

Good luck mate, I did my first one last week, it was nerve wracking lol some people like me need a little more help and clarification from more knowledgeable members on here.
But we all in the same boat innit, just don't start too many threads on it cos you'll end up getting a warning like me, it was harsh but I'm gonna have to accept it looool anyways good luck and if u need any help just ask.
And make sure you follow all the steps to the point, cos you could end up with some unrectifiable problems ;-)

It depends what you wanna do, if you wanna unbrand your phone use the WWE ruu, if you wanna return Ur phone back to the way it was then use a official 3 branded Rom, and as you know if you want a particular custom Rom then just flash one of those.
I got my WWE ruu from xmoo's thread, it has a whole list of different ruu versions, so just pick the one you want but I suggest going for the 1.32 xx3 cos you can still root that version if you wanted to.

Flash a 1.32 RUU, then root and do s-off. Simple as that.
As Hawk said. You won't be able to actually preserve it, but have to root it again, as you will lose root by flashing stock.

what do you mean by "back to stock", if you wanna preserve "everything" it's not really stock!
but, i guess you could restore your nandroid backup... or do what guys above said so!
I assume he wants stock RUU ROM, no custom ROM or kernel, .... but with root intact.
He will lose the root by flashing stock RUU.
So just root again and not flash any custom kernels or custom ROM.
I don't know why, up to him, but he just asked the question, and we provided the answer.

If you are selling it I would guess IMPO, it is better unlocked anyway.
And the same goes for the ROM, I would advise the Ace_HTC_WWE, rather then the _Vodafone one, which proberly has a full of their blow-wear, as you must know what it was like when you purchased it.
But like anything else, the choice is your.
Take Care

yes definatly im going to make sure it has super cid, so yeah ill beusing the WWE version, thanks for your help
very very very much appreciated
EDIT: so i dont need to worry about upgrading the radio? or downgrading?
Follow part of this downgrade thread. You need to DL the PD98IMG.zip file.
As you already have root, skip the adb temp root part, and follow this copied directly from the above guide;
•Put PD98IMG.zip to your SD card. Do not put the file into a folder...... Do not extract
•Reboot while holding volume down, it will go to the bootloader
•Follow the instructions (start the update)
•Done. You can now proceed with old S-OFF methods, and remove the PD98IMG.zip from your SD. I recommend Radio S-OFF for new users.
Then,
Follow this guide for temp/permroot with visionary and S-off using
Easy Radio Tool DL Link at end of 2nd post
Then,
Follow this guide for ENG S-off using the
Easy S-off tool DL link at bottom of page
Hope this helps, just make sure you read every in full at least twice.

umm not sure if you understand where i am, im on a custom rom already mate, im going back to stock, i dont need to downgrade
Well when you follow Upintheair's instructions, you get a stock ROM, and it is not really a downgrade because you do not have to use the command line commands. You do not have to run the radio s-off tool, though. Just run ENG S-OFF tool.
The other way is to flash Raidroid Stockify series ROM, it is a rooted stock ROM that you can flash in clockworkmod.
