So I start with some history:
SGS i9000
Currently using 10.2.2 (just flashed) JVQ
Android 2.3.4
When I got Darky 10.2 everything seemed smooth. Problems started to occur little by little. Battery drain, always 98-95% when taking off from the charger. Strange tilts, app / screen just freezes and after a while automatic reboot. Strange slowdowns, sometimes friends can't call me...
I think it's all because of custom kernel and rom.
Now I can't connect my Samsung to my Mac. It charges but no connection. I tried different cable, flashing 10.2 to 10.2.2. Wiping everything on the phone. Nothing. Phone is in Mass Storage state, also tried USB Debugging.
It's kinda hard to reflash this thing to previous systems because how do I flash with Odin without usb connection.
Any ideas?
You might try another PC with a fresh USB driver install. I'd suggest a Windows running one.
Restart phone and comp.
@zomirp: i'm not an idiot
I've done everything one could imagine. Tried PC instead of my Mac. Different USB cable. I've reflashed, wiped all data + dalvik cache. I've tried to switch USB from PhoneUtil to Modem and back to PDA but no help.
Boot into recovery and restore your nandroid backup from known working config. You have a backup right...?
Failing that, can't you download 10.2 again on your phone, restart in recovery and install using CWM?
@dolphindos sorry to hear that your phone is misbehaving.
I had something similar, but instead of immediatly blaming the software, I decided to take a look at the hardware.
what are the odds that software changes hardware....
I think your usb connector crapped out just like mine did recently. I went to the repair center got it fixed and all's fine now.
My thoughts have a look at the hardware
Yes that is a possibility. Well I guess I need to find a way to get stock firmware flashed since I can't take the phone with Darky's to manufacturer.

After some moderate success with One-Click-Root (it failed after giving root and installing CWM), I can't seem to get my Epic to behave on either my laptop or desktop. It still recognizes drivers, but whether it's in Debugging Mode or not, it seems the connection freezes. On XP, explorer.exe locks up unless I unplug the phone. On reinstalling drivers and plugging in the phone, it'll install the phone drivers halfway, halt, and won't continue installing unless I pull the USB cable and reconnect. I've tried resetting the phone with different stock firmware versions but can't seem to get around the problem. When I try to reapply One-Click-Root, half the time it doesn't see the phone, or it halts near the beginning.
Here's what's recently flashed:
Firmware version: 2.2.1
Baseband version: S700.0.5S.EC05
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9
Build Number: FROYO.EB13
I'm under limited understanding that the baseband and build are a mis-match, but at this point I'm trying anything to get this thing to work. Otherwise it seems I can only flash ROMs via ODIN, and most only seem to support CWM. I've searched for almost a day and haven't seen anyone else with this problem.
Thanks everyone for your time.
Have you tried a different USB cable? EDIT: Also, this should be in Q&A.
Ah, my apologies about posting in the wrong board. I've tried the stock cable, one from RadioShack, and another from an Evo.
I should also note that with or without Debug, the microSD refuses to be explorable on either platform of Windows.
I'd suggest you Odin to stock, then restart the process from there.
I bit the bullet and downloaded Sprint's update, originally believing anything official was evil. So far the update is making things work. I got One-Click-Root to work without a hitch. I'll update on whether or not CWM and a custom ROM works.
CWM v3.0.0.6 has successfully installed. Bonsai4All ROM successfully installed. Mounting with or without Debug still not working, however.
First off let me say hello to everyone! I have never posted here but do A LOT of lurking . Big ups to all the devs here. You have helped make my Fascinate 100 times better than it was out of the box. I post over at fascinate forums and posted this issue I have been having. If anyone can help out with this I would appreciate the hell out of it.
Running
Community Rom v 1.2 w/ stock kernel(WHICH IS AWESOME BY THE WAY! Best Rom I have ever used hands down!).
EnV Theme(which is equally awesome!)
Can not get my computer to recognize my phone via USB(phone issue)
So here is what happens.
My USB mount was working fine until last night. Now every time I connect my phone to my computer I get a message in the bottom right corner telling me windows does not recognize the USB device.
When I click the message I get this
USB Device Not Recognized
USB Root Hub
Unused
Unknown Device
When i click the unknown device I get this
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
This is not a computer issue...it is a phone issue. I have tried plugging my phone into 3 different computers, installed the drivers, and get the same issue every time. If it is an internal error there is nothing I can do because I can't Odin back to stock and take my phone in to Verizon.
Things I have tried
Uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers multiple times, different drivers(generic and the ones from the samsung page), fixing the drivers, different USB ports, different USB cables, different rom, different kernel, re downloading drivers(both).
I cannot figure this out. If anyone can help me it would be much appreciated.
:edit: My phone WILL charge when plugged into the USB.
p.s. Once my Pizza gets here I am going to attempt putting the phone into Download mode. I completely forgot to check if Odin would recognize it in DLM. If it does I am reverting back I am going to revert back to stock and have a rooting/flashing party by myself tonight(I have beers).
I'm sure your already aware to make sure your in usb debugging mode. mentioned it just incase.
Yes my phone is in debug and set to mass storage. I want to try a hard reset but don't want to be such with a stock fascinate if it doesn't work.
Alpha Tappa Lambda
I had similar problem, and my Odin wouldn't work either.
Turned out to be some dirt in the usb port, cleaned it out with a scrap of paper with isopropyl alcohol. After a couple of cleanings, the PC recognized the device for the first time in 2 weeks. I am not the only one who has had physical problems with the usb port, search on it. The Fascinate seems to be fragile in this respect.
Of course, if your Odin detected the phone then its something else...
Good luck.
I had this exact problem and it was the USB cable for me
I didnt think of it initially cuz it would charge my phone fine
I went through every step over and over and even reformatted my entire PC
Then i grabbed by coworker's ATT captivate charger and everything worked fine...
so my suggestion is to find someone with a samsung OEM charger and see if that's your problem
I also think it has something to do with the USB port. I had the exact same issue and it ended up being dirt in the port on the phone

I had the same thing, would charge but computer wouldnt see it. Cleaned port with a little rubbing alcohol and it worked like a charm.
My new phone will be here tomorrow. I ended up flashing ED01 with CWR and now have a fully stock fascinate ready to be sent back.
I haven't read this thread for awhile but I wish I would have tried the cleaning method before having to get a replacement phone in. Oh well...should be a fun re rooting a brand spankin new stock phone tomorrow
Well now I know what it was. I just got my new phone in. All was well.
Rooted to EF, Odin'd the EC01 radio, and flashed OTB 1.3 and was just setting everything up. I rebooted after flashing everything.
Then came the fast media scan hack. Guess what...my phone will no longer connect via USB after flashing that.
Does anyone know how to remove this? I can no longer Odin anything and I am pissed off right now.
p.s. not pissed off at anyone in particular...it's my problem for flashing not the devs...but seriously this sucks.
Re flashed the Rom, went into terminal emulator and restored the default media scanner, rebooted phone, rebooted computer, USB works fine.
Right after I flashed the fast media scanner I had the same problems I was having before...now everything is working just fine. Not trying to bust on adrenalyn or anything. Just reporting my experience with the fast media scan hack.
Cannot Get Computer To Recognize Phone
I tried installing the Anonymous ROM and got bricked. A friend of my was able to get it back to factory settings. Now, no computer will recognize my phone.
I have tried several computers, 3 windows 7 computers and 1 iMac. None of them recognize the phone.
I have tried two different cables and every USB port on all of the computers. Nothing seems to be working.
All I wanted to do was get the Sprint crapware off my phone and now I can't even get back to where I was.
Also, when I try to do the ROM manager I am getting a file signature error.
You can try Software Data Cable app, This app allows you to connect to your computer via the same wifi connection. You might give it a shot.

I had this problem once. I think i went into my usb settings and click ask on connect or something like that. Worked for me at the time.

My phone is doing that now how do you undo the speed hack?

I was in the same boat. Was rocking UKB ComRom 2.0 when all of a sudden I could no longer connect my phone via USB to my PC. I was running Windows Vista and had never had a problem before. I tried multiple PC's and multiple cords. I was worried that I would have to get a replacement.
I cleaned the USB port on the phone with no luck. Installed and deleted and reinstalled the drivers 3 times with no luck. Made sure USB settings on the phone were correct. Toggled the USB settings a few times just in case- no luck. Did a Dalvik and Cache wipe with no luck. The only thing that worked for me was the do a factory reset/Wipe and then redo my phone from there. It left UKB ComRom 2.0 on the phone and I just had to add back in my data. Just an FYI.
ive had this issue since ukb 2.0 i moved to cm7 mtd did a full data wipe and still have this issue >,> wonder if i have to manually change it or somthing
Just had this happen again today on my phone. Fixed it back on the 29th after doing a factory reset and then reinstalled my apps/ etc......This time all I had to do was a Davlik, Cache wipe and it seemed to fix the problem. Never had this happen before ComRom 2.0, but not it is happening more frequently it seems. Any ideas?
Hi guys, my phone has had a little problem occur, my usb port is no longer working, can't charge my phone etc...I have got spare batteries so that's not an issue but naturally I want to be able to transfer and flash things over usb cable....so to do this I need to put phone back to stock, I've tried flashing the stock Rom that came with it using mobile Odin pro, this was five except Wi-Fi didn't work and when typing *#1234# I had no csc(I had also flashed triangle away prior to this) only I still had philz recovery not stock...so I tried flashing my backups and kept getting failures...I have since managed to flash the Google stock djembys that I happened to have on internal sd.
Can anyone think of tell me how to get everything stock Samsung again? With no usb connection!
cheers in advance
Hi.
After searching through the forum to find an answer to this issue, I didn't find anything. Therefore I'm creating this thread.
This issue started when I updated OTA to a CM11 nightly. Now whenever I plug my phone on the outlet to charge it or to the computer, it doesn't assume that I unplugged it when I'm done. In other words, it's always charging / always connected to the computer. I've tried to do a full wipe of the phone but it didn't solve the issue. This only happens in certain roms. I do not remember doing a factory reset and flashing the stock rom with ODIN.
However, when I unplug the phone and remove the battery, the issue is fixed. Whenever I plug it back, it starts again.7
I appreciate your help.
Thanks alot.

Never had this problem. The only options are to flash stock rom via Odin OR wait for CM11 stable update. Try giving a hard reset.

Hey my friend!
Well if you'd bought a huawei nothing of this would be happening lolol
Just kidding, well it may be related to the way how you switch off the usb connection, have you tried already to select in windows the safe switch off USB mode?
If it isn't that problem, after a nanbackup try to wipe cache and dalvick cache, and if the problem continues a full wipe may be needed, formatting system, data and cache... And freshly installing the new update from CM11...
If still continues... Well you can always trade your device with your neighbor LMAO
Anyway I would wait for a new update or a stable release...
Good luck.

Try to clean up your charging point by brush or any suitable thing. some shorting might be there by dust or any other thing.
I had the same problem and resolved.
I did everything you suggested a couple of days ago. It didn't work.
Nebur, m8, could it be related to the modem baseband? Because it also happens when I connect it to the charger. After I unplug it, the phone says it is still charging...
The plot thickens.

Hmm... Baseband / Ril mismatch perhaps!?
But doubt it... I think that the problem is more related with usb permissions (kernel config) than with any other thing... But that's MHO...
I had BlackDiamond.N8.PIE.V2.0 over a year on my phone and it was working with no problem.
today I decided to update my phone, first updated the TWRP to the latest version "TWRP-3.4.0-0-hero2lte" updated without any problem,
then I downloaded BlackDiamond N8 Port V10.0, wiped everything (even internal storage), and installed the ROM,
it installed successfully, wiped the caches, reboot to the system, android loaded without any issue,
after loading into android, I added my google account, and I was testing the phone, after 10min of working with the phone,
while I was testing the camera app (it's was a little laggy) my phone freezes and after a couple of seconds, the screen went black! I thought it's gonna reboot, but nothing happened.
I tried to hard reset the phone by pressing "power+volume down+home key", but it didn't work, connecting to the charger is nothing happen, there is no LED light, my phone is completely dead
does anyone have any idea why this happened? installation and booting to android was completely fine, everything worked fine, and suddenly my phone freeze and hard bricked.
you know this is not the first time I'm installing custom ROM, I'm done it before and I've always been careful, never had any issue like this, but this time really I don't know what happened and to be honest, I really love my S7 Edge, I don't want to replace it.

Possibly a hardware problem. You will have to take some technician for a more accurate analysis.

if it's hardware, why I didn't have any problem before updating the ROM? is it possible updating damaged the phone?
one more thing, I saw some people use a dongle called USB-JIG on dead Samsung phones, that enter phone to download mode and after that flashing with Odin.
do you think it's work on my phone?

It can occur, despite being very difficult. I already corrupted the xperia bootloader I had, but it never happened on my samsung devices. I even have a s7 edege and I am changing his rom and I never had any problems. As I said, you should take the device to an assistance center to get an idea of what really happened. Perhaps it could be a hidden problem, which was only expressed by changing the rom, or it could give the same problem with the old rom. What I can say is that a simple exchange of rom, would hardly cause a hard brick in a device.

You can also try, because if your device is not completely dead, it can come back to life with this procedure. But I still recommend taking the device in for a technical assistance.
There are 3 cases in this:
1. If you flashed a corrupted/wrong bootloader in twrp/flashfire or anything that doesn't blocks a wrong flash like odin. Your phone is dead for good. Only a usb jig/repair box or a local mobile technician can fix that.
2. Your phone is bugged with black screen. Installing a custom rom can cause weird things. Sometimes hard stuck with screen off/black .. now you need to wait for battery draining itself completely and then plugging in charger and trying to get in download mode. If you could go in download mode then you can reflash through odin and it will be back to normal. Although sudden turn off and then complete deadness is often a hardware failure.
3. If phone after draining completely doesn't shows life when connected to charger and can't go in dl mode then its either hardware failure or bootloader problem like in no.1 point. You will need to take it to a mobile repairer or use a repair box/jig nevertheless.
