New pocketPC user. Got the Tilt a couple of days ago. First post, so forgive me. Very PC literate - still learning on the pocketPCs. Testing out ROMs now, thanks to all of you.
When I bought my case (Krusell), I just added on an aftermarket car charger (Fosmon). But I've been reading some of the posts about blown USB ports and a few other issues that seem like they could be power related. As a noob, did a ton of searching on the forum and can't find where anyone has given any opinions about aftermarket chargers. Part of me says stick to HTC or even AT&T brand because they are made for the unit (although an actual HTC is a pain in the ass to find and get shipped to me in Florida for an upcoming trip). Another part says they're all probably made in two factories in China and all I'm doing is paying more than twice as much for the same unit. Just don't want to risk having a problem on my new baby.
Any opinions?
I've been quite happy with my VersaCharger Pro from Boxwave -- works as a wall or car charger, and can put out the 1000 mA the Tilt needs.

Bingo! I've used Audiovox(HTC), Motorola and Blackberry home chargers, Motorola and no-name car chargers, my work laptop and my home desktop and all have charged my Tilt with no problem at all.
I'm interested in this particular topic too !
It's actually quite hard to get the specs (current in A and voltage in V) for official car chargers ! (and quite hard for many chargers).
The official wall charger gives 1 A and 5 V.
It would seem that you don't find that many mini usb chargers providing 1A.
You can find some on ebay but then most would provide... 5.5 V... could that arm the Kaiser ? I wonder, if anyone's got an idea.
Going for a lower current would mean the charging would be much slower.
Some extra notes about USB car chargers. Usually they will only provide 500mA and you won't have them work well with a regular sync cable (usb <-> mini usb) except if you mod them by welding two pins in the mini usb part (look for more information on the hermes section of this forum).
Today I had someone tell me that the best option for a car is actually an inverter with a home charger plugged into it. They said that Li-Ion and other rechargeables aren't meant to be charged via DC and that's why they sometimes (albeit rarely) brick via car charging. However, an inverter will prevent that. Sounds like BS to me, but I am not knowledgeable at all. Thoughts on this?

I flag BS! The charging circuits for the li-ion batteries are not built into the charger itself. Its built into the device. The purpose of the plug-in chargers is to provide enough current/regulated power to run the device and charger it.
Anyone seen where to buy extra power adapters? Be nice to have one with a longer cable. Stock one is very short.
Wish it was USB charged....

I couldn't stand it anymore so I snipped my wire and added another 4 ft.
I have been trying to get an additional PSU and car charger for my Acer. Went to Frys, tried almost EVERYTHING they have on those Universal PSU and NONE of them work in the pin connector for the Acer. What gives!
Try to get a free tip for my Energizer Xpal and also result in zero search. Any fellows have a pointer to where in getting the right tip? Thx
So far the ONLY one that I have found that works is the Enercell 12 / 1.5 with the 'G' tip, but it's like $30 at RadioShack. The tip itself is a little long and if it wiggles it will stop/start charging off and on.
I'm working with a few people to find some at decent price for us.
anyone measured the dimensions of the charging tip at all? If worse comes to worse we could always buy a generic 12v 1.5a AC adapter from ebay and buy the tip separately to solder on.
The USB port wont be able to charge the tablet fast enough and the battery will still drain. I've found that this happens on my Xperia X10 mobile phone. I have to disable 3G data in order get it to start charging.

The 'g' tip for the Encercell is 1.1mm x 3.0mm

thanks for hte dimensions... unfortunately they don't sell that brand over here in Australia. I'm also reluctant to pay ~$30 for a charger.

I can confirm the Radio Shack Enercell (12vdc, 1.5a) with the 'G' tip works. Picked one up today for $29 (get the tip for free) and its currently charging the Acer as I type this.

No charging difference at all except I don't have to have my face mashed up against the wall while it charges.
I used a piece of wire from an old 1amp charger I had. The extra piece doesn't even get slighty warm. 1.5 amps isn't all that much juice. I did solder the connetions too.

Even at $10 it is grossly overpriced
Acer needs to offer a PS with a six foot cable that is not crazy thin like the stock PS.

a quick look at the wall power supply says that it it needs 12V at 1.5 amps with center of tip positive.
The Wal-Mart car charger puts out 2000ma (2amps), and has a tip that works.. It works PERFECT and it only costs 15 bux.
usb charging is out.. usb is only 5V at 500 ma (.5 amp).. not sure why everybody complains about wanting USB to charge their tablet. Even if they did add it, it would take so terribly long to charge it, you would get mad. With the proper charger and voltage, it only takes about 2-3 hours to fully charge the thing...

This has been a topic of discussions for a LONG time hopefully you'll know.... Couldn't there be a potential issue with charging at 2 amps when it calls for 1.5?? I was told you could use less but not ore without causing damage to the battery?
I have a 'demo' on the way from overseas to try that I should get Wednesday. I will let you know ASAP.
This is a big issue with me as I prefer a charger at home and the office and I'd like something that I can charge on my desk 'without my face mashed up against the wall' (as atomicwedgie so perfectly put it)

The Amp rating on wall chargers is what the charger is CAPABLE of outputting, not what it is always outputting. As long as there is current limiting built into the charging circuit (which is a must), then the charging circuit in the A500 won't pull any more amperage than it needs to charge. Don't worry about buying a higher amperage charger than is needed, but do worry about buying one that is lower as it can overload the charger.

Yes... pulling too much amperage is a very bad thing.
Has anybody noticed that the Play store listing for the Nexus 10 only lists the tablet?
Maybe they wanted to save a few bucks and figured that we'd all have phones with a charger cable already, but it's kinda lame that we'd be paying $400+ for a tablet and we won't even be getting a charger with it. I'm going to have to buy a separate cable for it myself; I kinda want to charge both my tablet and my GNexus at the same time.

I would hope that the listing isn't completed for the box because it's not out yet. I'm hoping that it uses a 2A charger, in which case most people don't have so they would supply it.

It follows the policy for Amazon Kindle HD 8.9, where no charger is included but it includes the micro USB charging wire. Also, Nexus 4 includes all the accessories including charging wire and the charger.

I'll be amazed if they don't supply a charger, i think it more a case of they are not listing it because of regional differences, I got a Sony Xperia S Tablet and noticed that the charging accessories changed for different countries, some would have just a socket to usb convertor, but i got like a mini laptop AC brick as we use 240v in the UK, not 120, so best to just leave it off for now.
I will be interested to see if they charge through the microUSB or via a magnetic charger as standard, and if they charge from MicroUSB, how much the magnetic charger would be

Does the Nexus 10 support wireless charging too? That's pretty cool if so. I think about now is the cue for IKEA and the like to start producing high-end tables which automatically charge anything on top of them. Then you can truly be wireless (well, the table would have to be plugged in, but the odds are you could hide the wire from sight). Since the table is powered, they might as well give it a backlit surface, too. Now that would be a table.

I'm doing some research on car chargers that can output 2 amps to the phone via a USB cable, but the trick is getting the phone to pull more than .5 amps from a car accessory outlet. So far I haven't had much luck. There seems to be a lot of info on ipad stuff, but not much in the way of high powered Android devices. So I thought I'd start a thread about compatible car chargers that will allow a full 1.8 amp pull from my car outlet, and see what you guys and gals think and have tried. I've attached a pic of my current setup. It's a Proclip holder on a 2012 Mustang. I've used this same setup for several previous phones (S2 Skyrocket and S3). The holder itself is adjustable to accommodate various phones with cases.

Data pins need shorted together, either in the USB cig plug, or some micro USB cables are this way...
Additionally, the USB cable you use needs to have thick enough power wires to support 1.8A charge draw. Many USB cables use 28 AWG wire for the data conductors, and then you get varying degrees of wire gauge for the power conductors depending on manufacturer. Some people use 28 AWG for both, some use 26, and good cables are made with 24 AWG wire. The thicker wire gauge means less resistance so less power is lost and more can be put into the battery. To pull a proper 1.8A the phone probably should have 22AWG power wire in the USB cable really...

Hi, not trying to hijack your thread, but can you tell me which case you are using? I like the fact that it has a large lip around the screen.

What model pro clip holder is that? I need to replace the one from my nexus. May hold out for the G2 specific one with the cable built in (like the nexus one I have now), but no telling how long that will be.

It's the Body Glove case from the AT&T store. It was the only one they had at the time, and I didn't feel like waiting to order one so I overpaid in exchange for some piece of mind.

It's the holder I ordered for my Skyrocket a few years ago. It's a generic adjustable one that fits a lot of different phones with cases. It has fit my SR, GS3, and now my G2, all with cases.

I have a custom 5 inch up angle micro USB cable I ordered from www.usbfirewire.com. It is a very thick wire, thicker than the charging cable the G2 came with. The one in my pic is probably not thick enough for a 2 amp charge.

Spot on. FWIW, the LG OEM cable is 20AWG on the power wires. This is the only viable explanation as I can't get the OEM wall charger to work with any cables I have sitting around (24AWG at best).
So would we be better off just using the factory charger with a power inverter or is there an actual car charger that will work?
Provided you short the data pins in whatever car charger you buy (if they arent already) and you get a cable with beefy power conductors then you should be able to draw 1.5-1.8A of power through a car charger. You have to make sure the car charger will do what you want though, many 2A chargers also have 2 ports to plug into. What they don't tell you is that each port is limited to 1A and both together will give 2A draw, but not to charge one device. The car itself also may limit power to the charger as well, I know my car specifically says 1.4A max through the cigarette plug. So it is possible to do, it is all just dependent on so many other things that you have to check off the list.

That's what I'm trying to figure out. I'm tempted to try that Scosche charger, with my thick USB cable. I installed Currentwidget, so I should be ale to see at what rate I'm charging at if I decide to order it.

I like the Powergen dual 2.1A USB charger I got off of Amazon. Has served me well. But really, anything 1.8A+ that's quality will do. The trick is going to be the USB cable. Still trying to source one from a reputable site, but you want something with 20AWG for the power. If I find something, I'll post it. Thus far I found two sites, kinda obscure, but not thrilled that the shipping alone costs more than the cables which run $6.

I suspect the phone can detect the charger capacity because my OEM LG cable works on both the Apple and Non-Apple ports on the Powergen charger. Since that's the case, the phone doesn't seem to care if the data pins are shorted or not. And the Powergen is advertised as 4.2A total, so 2.1A per port.

Something worth considering is looking at charging cables labeled for tablets. They usually charge in this amperage range. I plugged my g2 into my kindle fire HD charger (1.8A) and didn't get any slow charge warnings.

Doesn't that come with the same Amazon branded usb cable you can get by itself? Take a look on the cable. A lot of times they label the wire gauge.

The charging issues associated with this phone has been a huge PITA. I've been carrying my stock cable around just so I can charge my phone!!! Subscribed so I can maybe help out with some info...

Are you certain that's not just the data side that is 28awg? Very surprised you can pull 1.8A at 28awg.

Just got my Nexus 10. Where is the Menu button?
I'm looking for the sleep timer in Pandora. I know I could access it under the Menu button in other device, but this Nexus 10 doesn't have the Menu button and not showing anything similar. I dig under settings but nothing there about SLEEP.
Background, I did all the updates and got KitKat. I don't know what they change/improve with KitKat but I'm not impress.
A few more questions...... should I dig to find the CPUID if worse come to worst should I need it? My A500 needed the CPUID to get access when it bite the dust. I hadn't root or anything yet, I did that with the A500 but seem nothing I do need root. I spent months looking through and trying to fix my A500. Nothing work. Can't flash any of the ROM, can't restore. All I got are Acer logo/dead android icon/attempting to read backup.zip rom from microSD. Seem like the memory is corrupted.
What accessories do you get for your Nexus 10? I got the adapter cable miniUSB to full size USB so I can plug in my flash drive. Sux Nexus don't have microSD.
What case do you like and why?

I can't believe this tablet take so long to charge from zero % to 100%. I've start charging it since 9am and now it's 4:12pm and only 97% charged. wow Using the AC charger that come with this tablet. Manual said the charger is 2A but the tiny text spec on the charger said 0.2A.
Well I can answer the charging. Buya pogo charger. Also for a case the moko slim is a good cheap case.

thanks for the reply. I read it wrong... input is 100-240 with 0.35A. The output is 2A at 5V. That match with the owner manual. But wow that is a very long time to full charge. I think spec for USB is 3A max. I'll check out the moko case later. thanks.

USB is limited to 5V, the charger is putting out 2A, or 2000ma per hour so 9000Mah should = 4.5 hours, But:
max microusb can handle 1.8A, so it becomes 5 hours.
Power loss in charging (e.g. heat) is about 10%-20% (each battery is different) so becomes 5.5-6.25hr
Above 85%, to protect the battery from overheating and over-voltage, as part of battery longevity, it slowly moves into trickle charge. Compare how long it takes from say 60%-70% to 90%-100%, there is little to gain in waiting to go from 97% to 100%. Next time look after 6 hours it should have been 90%. See this chart.
You can overcome one of these limitations by use of Pogo cable which isn't limited by 1.8A of microUSB and can give 2A. Side-benefit is it is magnetically connecting so doesn't wear out your data socket microUSB with all the plugging in to get electricity. It will still trickle-charge but get you to 85% faster.
I confirmed today that the Pogo cable does not disable the microUSB socket i could use a USB harddrive (Stickmount) and use my 4G USB dongle (PPP-Widget, kernel replacement), whilst receiving power, but the 2Amp input is still not enough to charge and tax the N10 with power demands, it was slowly still discharging powering ~600mah USB harddrive plus full brightness display plus Wifi was >2A slightly.

Also the menu button should pop up on the right side of the soft key bar in apps that need it. And if you want faster charging you can buy a pogo cable which charges faster but it costs 25 dollars. I would recommend just charging before going to sleep and remove it early in the morning. It takes about 5-6 hours to charge fully from a low battery like 10 percent so an extra hour shouldn't make a difference on the charger. I looked it up and it said that it's best not to leave it longer than 9 hours on charge but less than that should be fine and that was for a phone so im sure the tablet can stay longer without issues.

So I've had a N7 for 17 month and a N4 for 11 month and N10 for 4 days. My experience has led me to focusing on energy input to balance the large output from the larger screen. Battery logs shows a lot more goes into the display than my N7. The power input is still only limited by microUSB plus you got the trickle-charge >85%.
So here's my list:
A dual 2.1A PSU, to get as much current as possible from the wall when I'm near a wall. The Samsung supplied one is 2Amp which is perfectly fine as the supplied MicroUSB cable is limited to 1.8A anyways, so the Pogo cable not having that limit is limited by the PSU so got a slightly higher Ampage one which can also charge something else concurrently. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BSC7FW0/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Hmmm, I do in hotels and other situations where noise is an issue sleep with noise-isolating headphones, a Buff to keep headphones in my ears and either a brown noise or pink noise depending what is the noise type in the hotel, works good when the guy in the floor above bangs his doors from 1am and the guy next door banging around from 5am. I'd typically NOT do that with a N10 but my N4 which I have anyways in Airplane mode to not be disturbed and with an alarm set so I wake when I want to not earlier.
I guess... you mean sleep with music coming through the N10's speakers? Well its rare I could do that, either wife or someone in next hotel room or I'm on a flight and need headphones which don't annoy the next seat so noise-isolating earbuds are what I use, nice to have the speakers.
I also have one of these http://www.amazon.com/Outdoor-OT6001-Bluetooth-Adapter-Devices/dp/B009A136T2 which allows me to not cable connected to gadget (phone, N7, N10, laptop, etc) and it lets me use regular headphones which only last for me 3-6 months and is cheaper over the long term than bluetooth headphones.

I mean the sleep in Pandora. I want to set Pandora to turn off in about 30mins or so. but I can't find this menu to get to set sleep. any1 find this sleep?
