Verify how to go back to stock - Desire HD General

Hello everyone,
Ok so it's time for warranty repair. My phone's memory is pooched. I have permrooted, SuperCID, Radio Unlocked and Eng S-OFF. I'm with Telus mobility.
I have searched as much as I can and as far as I can tell I need to:
- Flash back to 1.32 rootable rom (from http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-root-telus-htc-desire-hd/)
- Gain perm root from there (same link as above)
- Use the same tools that I used to get Eng S-OFF to put everything back to normal (from http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-gain-radio-engineering-s-off-on-telus-htc-desire-hd/)
- Get the stock ROM from http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Ace
- Flash the Stock ROM
At that point everything should be back to normal?
I just want to confirm and if so then hopefully this thread can serve as a one-stop for people needing to do the same since I can't find any other thread that contains all this info.
(yes AddictiveTips I still find the be the clearest and easiest to follow guide)

i´m sorry to hear you´re having problems with your dhd but i do agree that a good thread like this if done right should almost be a sticky for people in your position, not that i´d wish it on anyone. good luck with your repairs

Yes the steps you listed are correct. It should take you no more than 2 hours start to finish.

It would take less than that except it took several hours to get permroot again because the phone keeps locking up or not booting properly.

Sometimes that happens, a factory reset will usually fix most issues.
Remember to switch on USB Debugging before you try to remove ENG S-OFF.

Dont dare me to do anything
Disabled HSDPA/HSUPA, soft reset and everything perfectly fine. Left it 10 minutes and soft reset and everything fine, then finally reenabled it and soft reset and everything fine. Im not sure what happened to your phoen to cause that error but im glad it fixed itself eventually with a hard reset.
This is a good reason to put HardSPL on your devcie even if its just to save your phone from being bricked in the future so you can always get back into bootloader and flash a stock rom and stock spl back onto your phone if needed.
If you want to stick with your stock spl then be very very careful of any changes you make to your phone in the future.
I've done it on a couple occasions (for the same reason as you did) with no adverse effects. Using stock 1.66 ROM.
lol, ok, thanks for the test!
I'm yet to learn what you have just said about hard spl, will look into it! nooby alert

i was on 1.4, probably just a coincidence, i fail to see why that would have done that to my phone but something went wrong. Perhaps the 1.6 will be more stable for me

Just follow the link in my sig on "Flashing your first LEO Rom (for noobs)" and it will give you all the information you need to flash HardSPL. Its extremely safe to do and will protect your phone from possible bricks in the future.

it does only for the time you have the customizations made.
You can flash the stock rom via microsd to put the device to pristine condition for warranty servicing.
Read very well mskip's thread in the ROM development forum stickies
Which incidentally is this one

Nothing works!

Trying to step out of the bubble and get back to custom ROMs, I tried to install 3VO.2.50.12509 but before I did. I tried to hard SPL my device. I used JockyW's 1.19 hard SPL. It "worked" but it would brick at startup [HTC splash screen] and not go anywhere. I thought no big deal, and I ran ROMUpdate and it never moves past 0% when flashing, it stays there FOREVER. I turned on my device and entered boot loader mode, and it tells me that my SPL version is 1.26.0000. What is there that I can do to fix this? I really am not much of a fan of the ROM that T-Mo has to give. If anything, can someone at least tell me what is wrong?
You must use Goldcard model to flash your device back to life, then re-install Hard SPL. I made a mistake like you before 2-3 days, and I only made a goldcard to save my device life.

[Q]How to S-OFF your HTC Legend?

Hello, where can i found a good and easy tuto to make the legend s-off???
I cant find a clear step by step
Thanks a lot !!!!
Hi.. Step by step is given in the process..
Just go to www.alpharev.nl download the iso and boot it.. Then you are instructed..
Othervise search the development section.. There are 2-3 threads regarding this issue..
How safe is this? I am concerned about modified HBoot and partitions, as surely this is the stage that can brick your phone.
There were a lot of horror stories when it came out, have things settled down?
EDIT: I would say it's not very safe at all. My first impressions are that the script is fraught with danger. First try failed to copy files and aborted (perhaps I said yes to install Clockwork Recovery when I already had it?), 2nd and 3rd tried it simply didn't go into fastboot despite pressing the power button loads of times. Each time a nervous battery pull.
Given up, before I end up with a bricked phone.
If a make a nandroid and something with s-off go bad,can i restore the backup and everything is ok?

No, if HBoot flashing fails, the phone is bricked.
Ok,was easy, make a iso boot cd,3 steps and everything is ok i have s-off in the legend
@CrazyPeter: I think it's more scary than dangerous. The timing in step 1 and 2 is way off, but step 3 is straight forward(this is the dangerous part). You just have to make sure the phone is connected.
Edit: I had to count to about 4.5 seconds after the -------> before pressing power. When it tells you to press power it's to late.
Sent from my Legend using XDA App
You certainly need to know what you are doing.
It's VERY possible you get lucky and get past stage2 but fail on stage 3 timing, if this is the case, then you have a partly updated boot and you need to boot recovery and nandroid backup (in the Advanced restore) the Boot partition and then try everything from the beginning again.
It took me 5 times round this route. It wouldn't be so bad if the script detected that you were restarting after the first timing critical bit and carried on from there.
As I remember there are no timing on step 3, only 1 and 2. Once you get past step 2 it's pretty easy. It can still go wrong though, if you loose connection when the bootloader is flashing during the 3rd step.

Now i have S-off,to enter in recovery mode what is the bets method?
Hello!
I've read lot of different topics here, but still cannot find exact answer for my questions.
I have a HTC Legend Device with S-ON.
It's CID is HTC__038, and HBOOT version is 1.01.0000
Do I have any chance to S-OFF my device? Does success of S-OFF'ing depends on how fast you press buttons during procedure? Can I still use custom ROM's without s-offing my phone?
Thanks a lot!

You cannot S-OFF your Legend if the HBOOT version is above 1.00.
The chances of an S-OFF success do not solely depend on "how fast you press buttons".
You can still use custom ROMs without S-OFF.
S-OFF
Can i use AlphaRev 1.8 HBOOT reflash utility with temp root to get S-OFF, i have an unbranded legend, open network phone (not sim locked) and HBoot 0.43.0001, Radio- 7.05.35.26L, I'd like to try CyanogenMod. I have been trying to root my phone using paul modaco's tutorials with no luck. Please help
To install AlphaRev your Legend must be rooted first.

Noob Qustions about Rooting

I'm new at this so i got all these noob qustions
First my DHD have built 2.42 with Arabic Regional Support ?
so
Do i need A Gold card ?
How do i know if my phone is S-Off or Not ??
What the best way to S-Off , Radio S-Off or Eng S-Off ?
When i downgrade will i loss my stock ROM ?
or i'll lose it at S-Off or rooting ?
Can i backup my stock ROM before i start rooting?
Rooting can mean radio off or/and eng off. Refer to desire HD development for rooting. Different build requires different ways to root.
Gold card, you will need one if your downgrading a branded phone. Branded phone includes any network locked phones and also unlocked phones. Even if you buy your phone out right from somewhere, there's still a big chance that it was locked previously. You will know when it says incorrect CID when your downgrade in bootloader.
Either radio or eng off allows you to flash any custom ROM, for beginners its recommended to have radio as its easier, while enthusiast have eng off, but most of the time, both. However to flash a radio, the recommended way is to have both off
The question about backing up your current ROM. After you root, go download a recovery app namely ROM manager which lets you back up your current ROM, meaning you can restore your stock ROM anytime you want. Hope that clears up a bit.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
You only need a goldcard if your dhd is network branded.
If you havent done anything to it yet it will have S-on
All the information you need is in the first post of this thread Link
If you downgrade it you will get a clean stock rom, losing all the data you havent backed up eg contacts, apps, app data. Anything on your sd card will be unaffected and you can use mybackup (30 Day Trial/Full Version/Root Version) to backup you data (but not app data because you dont have root).
Root your phone and use the root version (also free) to restore the backup. It restores with one click but the non-root versions need you to confirm each app installation.
First i'd like to thank u for ur reply , its very helpful
So i got this facts now, Correct me if i'm wrong
1- The best is to have both Radio and Eng S-off
2- I only need Gold Card if get incorrect CID
3- Downgrade , S-off and Rooting , wont replace my Stock ROM and i can back it up
Using ROM manager
4- I can backup my Info Using mybackup
Is this information correct ?
Hi,
i used TiTanium backup after a temp root and this very good guide in Desire HD dev topic:

That is correct. But if you have to choose between eng off or radio off, radio off is a better choice because it's more permanent. You can still remove it whenever you want

i think downgrading does replace your stock rom, just with another stock rom. but it'll be like a brand new phone out of the box after you downgrade, everything will be wiped.
i did the downgrade using the link posted above, and i didn't realise it would do that. I thought i could downgrade, root, back up, flash rom, restore. turns out i should've backed up before downgrade.

after you have downgraded, you could always do an OTA update. so essentially its still the stock ROM that your phone came with.

If your radio off, no, you don't have to root again. Radio off is one of the most permanent thing you can do to your phone. However you can still radio off anytime you want.
However, if your only eng off, you might have to, depending on what version of bootloader you upgraded to.

Comments on your steps.
1. i havent actually personally tried mybackup. but you do realise restoring apps and data from your stock to a custom ROM is different than restoring it onto a stock RUU, simply because custom ROMs might run slightly different. but by all means, try it. i am sure thats not enough to break your phone. you might have to redownload some of the apps tho.
another interesting thing to add is, gmail syncs your contact your email. after a fresh flash, all you have to do is resync. it doesnt give back your msges tho.
3. format your sdcard to fat32. this is important because larger sd cards default format cant be read by bootloader.
6. rooting can be divided into 2 types, eng-off and radio-off. what your doing here is an eng off procedure. skip step 9 all together.
7. make sure you radio off since you will be updating to OTA. some OTA breaks eng off, but radio off would still remain.
10. you might have to eng off (radio off would remain) again if you do an OTA update. i suggest moving step 6 after step 11
keep us posted on your status. good luck.

Looks good. But I can't personally vouch for it since i never use his frevo toolkit before. But from what I can guess it's just automated script to run adb commands. So it should be safe. I say go ahead and enjoy rooting and flashing and tweaking and so on.

I have to update the Froyo 2.2 for Ginger? if so? how? help! Thank you!

What I am gonna do to go "Completely Stock" --Help me here people please--

So, after rooting with revolutionary tool, i gotta go back to stock for waranty purposes.
My stock version is an arabic one, so here is what I am gonna do,
1. Use a WWE froyo RUU.
2. Push hboot 1.0.0001 through ADB.
3. Run my locale version RUU (Arabic One) (Froyo) which will bring me to hboot 1.0.0002. --iHope--
Is this procedure right ?!
Please I need fast feedback in order to start doing it as I need to send my phone to waranty as soon as possible.
Thanks everyone!
Please refer to this thread
PS: First time I used that RUU my hboot was 0.8.x so I only had to run the .exe file WHILE THE PHONE WAS BOOTED INTO BOOTLOADER ( Hold Power Button>Reboot>Bootloader)
I re-rooted my phone soon after with Revolutionary but did not used any RUU.exe because I will not go stock yet.
If the RUU won't work while the phone is ON, just reboot it into Bootloader, that should do the trick.
after rooting my wildfire and testing many Roms and even going back to the original RUU, i can say that it will never be like the stock Rom
Thx guys for your effort,
but I know how to do all this, I am not that newbie!
I just wanted to know if the procedure is right, so I can be safe!
And I just did it, and I am done, smoothly with no problems!
Have you got your S-ON? I want to know because I want to unroot soon for warranty reasons and my phone was S-Off since I got it from Vodafone...
