but in bright light everything is good , do i have a hardware problem or is this with every x5 . will upload a vid by tommorow , but until then pls help me !!!!!!!!
Say thanx to its ****ty camera and sensors
Its not just yours but all of us has this problem.
No need to worry about it

I think it is just designed to do that, trying to improve shooting in low lights...
there is no camera in world that will not lag in dark conditions if it have output to lcd. It's just impossible.
Try cm7 rom. For me it has the best camera response. Don't imagine something dramatically different. Our camera trully sucks
yea it takes 5 seconds to take pictures in dark.
exactly , it takes 5 seconds 2 take picture in dark
BUT one of my friend has motorola defy n his camera doesn't lag a bit in taking picture in dark light whereas my x5 ( as mentioned earlier) takes almost 5 seconds in dark .
lol , i was taking a picture of a car n when i FINALLY clicked i had another car on my mobile .
one more i think as we r using oxygen n cm7 beta version , v can expect better results whem official 2.3 rolls out.

it's VERY normal. even DSLR (professional) cameras takes that long to shoot if they uses automatic focusing. Phone (DSLR) does not shoot until it focuses on object, because at night it can't see on what to focus - it takes very long tome, because adjusts sensor sensitivity (ISO) to get more details to be able to focus. if there would be option to disable auto focus - it would took picture in second.
when i shoot in dark - it auto uses LED to see objects so it shoots like at day for me (if object is near)
HOw to shoot fast? -->
in camera app go to settings (dot at top of menu in right corner) and in Focus mode check OFF - and it won't lag anymore cause it won't try to focus ;D
Related
Could anybody inform me of the changes with camera performance with the new update? (other than auto flash and geotagging)
How fast is it to load and focus? what are the images like?
All reviews i have read are based on the old software, so wondering if those reviews would have been much better if using newer firmware?
Any samples?
Many Thanks.
Here you go.. photos taken in Hamburg yesterday with my X1, smabergs 6.0 ROM with the new Camera and HTC Camera..
Same place, different app:
R3A: http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/5708/dsc0025a.jpg
HTC: http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/240/imag0004f.jpg
I don't know if it's a problem with smabergs ROM, but focusing takes ~1-2s and then after ~8-10s the picture is taken.. terribly slow for me.
A collection from last weekend using the different focus methods.

Doesn't seem to be too slow

these pictures are never taken by the Xperia Camera xD
By the way, I was searching in R3A cam the self-timer / autotimer / automatic release, didnĀ“t find it. Can anybody help, or is this basic function missing?
thanks for the samples, dont look too bad.
But 10 secs to take a photo is really slow! anybody else experiencing this?
after a softreset, speed of the camera is back to normal.. 1-2s
Really 8 - 10 secs to take a shot ???
1- could be the SAT link time
2- could be the flash charge time
I am pleased with the results, it is not a PRO camera: it's a phone with camera and I don't expect PRO pics
IMHO it makes decent (not "brilliant" or "great") shots
I took this one with zero adjustments, just grabed phone from pocket and shot:
If I need better shots, I take my cybershot with me
hello guys i want the best Camera Configuration ( macro or single or infinity ......)
because really my camera suckss my xperia was .14 and i debrand it to .16 but my camera is very bad !!!!!
Or the problem is with the photographer
I saw on Esato some amazing pictures taken with X10.
cant complain here ... best pic ever with that phone .. and fastet ever seen readjusting from light to dark places ... the only thing i dont like is the autofocus .. it cant focus to close to an object ( that is 3 - 5 cm away from the camera lense like my x10) but since i rarly do that i dont care
ok noblack can u tell me ur config.
I've found using the camera on Touch Capture, 8mp, Normal scene, Centre metering, Auto white-balance gives me the best pictures.

my pictures are just awful! i'm really hoping this is a softwer issue, i have a prototype so i'm running an old 007 apposed to 016 which is the newest afaik
sample 1 sample 2 sample 3
btw. can this be cleared with photoshop? it's just silly to have an 8mpx camera and have this bad pictures!
i'm using 6mpx wide screen rezolution, everything else on auto/single focus

pretty sure it's the firmware of ur phone that's giving out crap picture. i didn't even bother changing the setting on the camera and the pic comes out just fine. it does pretty amazing in dark places too for a phone
what si ur firmware ?
firmware version 1.6
baseband version R1DA007
i have
firmware version 1.6
baseband version R1FA016
what is the different !!!!
yours is newer
I think the problem is your phone.
Try using EV -1 here has improved 50%
-1 EV is too much...
I think -7 is better and also, for better results is a photoshop app on the market.
A bit +contrast and saturation and everything is ok.
My images are a bit ... washed so, -7 EV + contrast makes them a bit better.
I'm not happy either with the quality compared with what picture i saw on esato.

hello guys,
my camera is rubbish, i mean while moving the phone and watching the camera view everything is blurred (dont tell me focus), and when taking a video it records that nonsense
Are you using the Stock HTC ROM? If so what settings are you using? I had no problems with the quality of the Camera or Camcorder.

Revolution HD 1.7, i dont remember the quality on the stock rom, but i think it was better
omg now its very good, i did nothing :S
yesterday i was in a trip to the wild, imagine how many great pictures i missed :S, maybe because i was in the night?? but why do it lag in the night?
Generally pictures taken at night don't look very good. As the the camera sensor cannot pull in enough light.
Next time your out taking snaps at night try adjusting the ISO settings, that could also create more "noise" in your photo. Test and adjust until you find a happy medium.

Motorola's camera-app is a real pain... You have to try a different cam-app from the market. My suggestion is "Camera 360". There is a free trail version at the market. This cam-app provides not only "funny" effects, but also a better image-(post)processing, and also the ability to choose a 100%-jpeg-quality setting, so that saving-artifacts are reduced to a minimum.
At the German Forum "Android-Hilfe.de" we've discussed this topic a while ago and some people were complaining that the autofocus hasn't worked at all (blurry pictures etc.).
So if you're not hearing any sound coming out of the MS2 (I don't mean a speaker-sound! I mean clicker-sound directly from where the cam is!) while you starting the cam-app, or while your holding the cam-button half way down, you have probably a hardware-failure!
If you are getting stripes, you probably have the cameras 'scene' set to something like Steady Shot, make sure the scene is on auto (changing from steady shot to auto removed the vertical bands from my photos when under fluro lights).
And strange sound when camera is starting up
Tested but problem still persist. E-mail to complaint Motorola but they tell me this is due to hardware limitation. Helpless!!!
I don't expect amazing photos from a tiny sensor on a phone but I do expect progression and better image quality than ancient devices, considering that sony are the king of camera sensors.
But to my surprise the macros are ridiculously shocking on the xperia Z. Needs at least a foot of distance. Check the comparison below at equal distance.
What gives?

On/off makes no difference. Only having flash off and holding it still long enough to semi focus automatically will take a legible photo.
The software is just so messed up. During the photo sequence, you can see it focusing reasonably well then it instead gives up and vomits out a blurry mess.

proof is in the pudding. Lets see some macro shots from around 1.5" (which the viewty does easy).
The more I mess about with this camera, the more it annoys me. My screenshot of the camera app gives me better results than the photo itself.
Left is screenshot of the macro pre focused and ready to shot. Right is the end result.

set to manual mode, EV to -2.00. and slowly adjust the EV value to your preference.

Yeah I hear you. After further experimenting, it seems to be an issue with the flash. In good lighting with flash off, decent macros are possible. With the flash on its totally hopeless. Its strange because almost all other devices produce better macros with the flash/light. I remember how my old 2mp w810 could take great macros with the flash. It definitely seems like a software issue to me.
There are also occasions when the lighting is poor and it is therefore impossible to get a decent macro result.
Left (flash off), Right (flash on)
Just play around with manual settings
Don't know why some people complain about camera of Xperia Z. It is a PHONE, first of all, not a Digital Camera.
And the other hand's, if you adjust settings properly in MANUAL MODE you can get these results:
(I shoot pictures on different zoom, iso and metering levels as you see here; i had to resize them to upload here but the macro is its stock camera's job):
I find it satisfying from a phone. If somone wants better than these, BUY A CAMERA
If you take a close look on the last one, you can see even the number graved inside of the usb port of the charger. I just saw now, never before

I am guessing that you are using digital zoom to get the last close up shot? I only want what my other devices can do. But the focussing is incredibly temperamental.

The last 3 pictures are yes, with digital zoom. The first had no zoom at all. I changed only settings.
I used like this:
- ISO 100 or 200 (depends of your light conditions) or 400 (this also good in twilight conditions I think) if you don't use flash at all
- metering mode SPOT (or Centre if you have less light)
- focus SINGLE or TOUCH FOCUS
- White Balance; it is according to your light enviroment (I use always Cloudy or Incandescent)
- No HDR, No Image Stabiliser, and hold it steady
The distance between the lens and the charger was about 8-10 cm (maybe less).
(But you really can do good macros if you use 1-2x digital zoom)
Try it and let us know how it is. Post examples.
And do not forget, LG had XENON-flash. We don't know what could we get from XPERIA Z with a Xenon instead of LED...
Here's my results

Right : Flash off

I don't use digital zoom as its pointless and Lg just uses a normal LED flash.
You guys seem to be taking your pictures from further away than the macros that I am attempting to capture.
This demonstrates it:
The LG (Left) can capture at less than half the distance of the xperia Z

I do not understand why are you trying to take macros. But if you feel so, use the LG instead of Sony. I made what I could with it, it is macro enough for me. If I need more than this, I use my WX80 Cyber-shot. But you could sell LG and get a camera. Or get a K800 Sony but XPERIA Play has very good macro too Or you sell the XPERIA Z and buy all the above mentioned devices.
I am sorry but I don't think you should suffer with it this much.
(I still think this is software isue of Z's camera, because clearly can see sometimes it catching when focusing even from 3cm, therefor hope Sony will solve this problem soon)
