I've never dropped my phone or spilled anything on it, but last night I hit my power button and it never came back out. It still works, but barely. Since I've had the phone it's been uneven (one end looked stuck and the other end moved in and out). Does anyone have experience fixinging this? Big red told me it's physical damage and I can buy a new phone or pay for a warranty replacement. I was thinking of taking it apart, but would like to avoid buying a tiny torx to get it all opened up.
If it's less than a year old then you should have a manufacturers warranty. If its older then I would consider paying the insurance. It sounds as if the button itself will have to be replaced. You could get a damages x on ebay to use for donor parts, but it will probably cost you as much as a n insured replacement. Good luck.

Ok guys, I realize some of you may think I'm a bastard for asking, but here it goes...
I got a G1 through T-Mobile. Love it, I can deal with the suck ass battery because I have a car charger. Fast forward I few weeks and I noticed I have 3 or 4 stuck pixels. most of them aren't very noticeable, but one is like the freaking north star, really annoying. Then the creaking started. I figured I'd have to live with it since it was past my grace period.
Then I started browsing this forum and noticed people were getting replacements for pixels and creaking. I rooted my phone, which was a godsend, since I could now tether.
Everything was great, then one night I drove to the convenience store on my way to a bar, I put phone in my pocket, buy a few cigars. I walk to the bar down the street, take out my phone to sit at the bar and there's a large arching crack. I couldn't believe it. I was so pissed because I love this phone so much and I spent $200. I didn't even put any pressure I just put it in my pocket. Ruined me night. Is it possible that swinging open the screen could have caused it? I use the keyboard a lot.
I can't afford to get a replacement with the insurance, if it's going to be over $100. Besides, I've only had the phone for a month and a half. That's why I want to ask: if I send it in under warranty for the pixels and creaking, will T-Mobile charge me when they get the phone and see a crack in the screen? Is it possible that the crack is covered under warranty for some bizarre manufacturing defect with the keyboard?
I realize some may think it's kinda underhanded, but I honestly was shocked when I saw the crack, I am ultra careful with this phone and I've never dropped it or put extreme pressure on it; and technically, I will be returning it for the creaking and pixels.
A crack in the screen was not caused by sliding open the phone it had to have some pressure put on it to happen. Unfortunately it is not covered under warranty through tmo or the manufacturer the only way to get it replaced is through insurance $130. Never fun but a crack to the screen is not covered by HTC under there manufacturer warranty. If you do send it inwith out saying anything about the crack you will be charged an out warranty fee when the phone comes and the warehouse sees there is a crack on the screen. Then voiding your warranty completely best thing to do is just get your money together and pay for your insurance that is why you have it.
Your pretty much SOL. Regardless what was wrong with the phone prior to the screen breaking its no longer covered under warranty. You can still do a warranty exchange if you don't tell them about the broken screen but when they get the phone back Tmo will charge you $110 out of warranty fee. Sorry for you lose but looks like your wallet will be a little lighter.
argh! Well THAT didn't take long. My S4 fell about 14" onto the floor and the glass shattered the day I got it. Putting aside for the moment how disappointed I am that the phone failed the most basic of drop tests (I've dropped every smartphone I've ever owned multiple times from greater heights and this is the first one that broke...and so easily).
I decided to attempt to repair the glass so I ordered a replacement glass kit and went for it. The repair itself was fairly straightforward and pretty much just like the S3.
After getting the whole thing back together I noticed that when I do a screen wipe to remove fingerprints (applying a bit of pressure to the screen) I get a bubble in the center of the screen...like it's sticking to the digitizer/LCD screen below. The kit came with a small suction cup which I can use to pull the glass away from the digitizer and the bubble goes away. It seems to have gotten better from yesterday to today - it no longer sticks during normal use, only during heavy wiping.
So...can anyone give me some direction here? Will it just dry out and take care of itself? Should I take the screen off and clean the LCD again? Should I try using several layers of adhesive to increase the gap between the glass and LCD/digitizer?
Honestly I'd call the company and ask them...this shouldn't be happening and if it were me, I'd get a replacement. Then again I always carry insurance. Best buy is free screen replacement.

I got my phone from Sprint...the insurance has a 30-day grace period before it goes into effect and a $200 deductible for broken screens. I cancelled it.
The guy said he'd be more than happy to send me another screen...I just want to make sure it's not something I did. This screen is OEM, but of course there is no glue between the LCD and glass after the replacement.
I didn't know there was a 30day grace for replacements. This must be new. I've had my phone replaced before 30 days after I bought a phone before. And screen insurance replacements are $100. Just did one not to long ago. This is why I only by from Best buy now. I make them price match Sprint.com and then buy insurance through them at the discounted rate if you pay up front. No deductible on anything and only thing they don't insure is lost or stolen.
But back to the original problem... If the suction cup tool doesn't fix it then you can try to clean it off and redo it again before send it back for another one. Just not sure why its sticking like that.
Here is one option, but this is why I buy my phones from Best Buy and get their Geek Squad protection.Unlimited replacements and no deductible. I had to replace my screen when I had my S3 a month ago through Sprints insurance Assurion and it cost $150. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPXVnTlrqeo
My S4 screen got two hairline cracks about a month ago and expanded a little. The phone was working fine but this was bugging me. I went to Amazon and purchased a new OEM replacement glass (cost me $4; skeptical on the OEM claims). Anyway I removed the old glass successfully with a heat gun and a plastic iPhone tool and removed all the old adhesive off.
Being stupid I peeled the black adhesive and balled it up. I went to put on the new glass and I realized the new glass doesn't come with adhesive on it. After installing it I then realized that I actually cracked the LCD (I guess from the pressure when I was pressing a bit on the glass to make contact with the adhesive I thought came on the glass). Anyway, my phone doesn't turn on now (screen is dead) although the phone still works. I removed the screen again and threw everything in a box.
I'm without my personal phone now and I'm stuck using my company phone for the time being for personal stuff. I looked at Amazon and the replacement LCD is $200. I'm not on a contract with this phone and don't want to sign a contract with AT&T or I lose my current minute package I have. I purchased this device from Craigslist from some guy for $400 a couple of months back.
What is the best route to repair this? Keep in mind I don't have insurance since I purchased this outright. This is the 32GB model. Should I just sell it AS-IS on Craigslist? How much should I ask?
By the way I think Gorilla Glass is BS. My phone fell about 4 inches on the ground and got two cracks.

Sell it as-is, ask around $150 - $200... someone who knows how to fix it will gobble it up. Take that money and spend a little extra and buy a Nexus 5 from Google. At least this is what I'd do...
If you really intend on keeping it.

Agreed. I'd rather have the Nexus 5 anyway.
Really sorry to hear about your phone though. I personally wouldn't risk replacing the LCD, you may break something else while inside..
If anybody wants to buy it let me know via PM. If not, I'll just hang on to it until the S5 comes out. I'm sure the price of the LED screen will drop.
I purchased another S4 (16GB model in White). It sucks because the broken one is a 32GB.
Update: Sold the phone to some guy who owns a cell phone shop for $175. Not bad.
Hello,
My girlfriend has owned a Moto X Style for 3 months, which she was unfortunate to drop into the ground outside. It had the original bumper that came with the phone and a tempered glass screen protector on, so there were no visible damage to the phone. As it was slight rainy, the phone got a little wet and when she picked it up, there was already a little water behind the screen, and she turned it off and dried it off and let it sit in rice for about 19 hours to get the moist out. After 19 hours she tried to use it and it looked fine as all the water was gone, but about 1-1,5cm of the screen now does not register touch.
The phone was only on the ground about 20 seconds, so is it covered by the warranty?
The phone does have that nano-coating that is supposed to protect it from water spray.. I believe dropping your phone into the ground once is considered normal wear and tear, or am I wrong?
Hard telling what will happen, I have had zero luck with Moto warranty work. My wife was told 5 weeks for her phone to be replaced on a warranty claim and my moto 360 was denied warranty work for blue spots on the led. So, my guess is if none of the moisture detectors/stickers if it has them are smeared then you might do okay just telling them it stopped working. Don't tell them about the water or the drop. You can see what happens, but moto warranty center in U.S. is now being looked at for a class action lawsuit due to terrible warranty work. I am never buying moto again because of this.

Dropping, especially in water is not normal wear.

You can try. I've owned 2 moto x phones (1st gen and style) and both have been through far worse situations with no damage to screen. It looks like that fall must've damaged her screen somehow. I don't think this is covered under warranty.
No damage, as a result from water or drops, is covered under the standard warranty. If you have insurance, then you can file a claim. If you wish to try and do a warranty claim, be prepared for it to be denied should any evidence show water damage internally. State it quit working and leave it at that.

Thank you all for answers. I have been in contact with Motorola customer service and the warranty does not cover it. They sent me details for a repair shop in my country.
My only chance now is my insurance, which takes for ever to process..
I am considering to buy a new screen + digitizer and change it myself as it does not cost too much and it is relatively easy. My only concern is that the phone stops working in the long haul because it is impossible to know how much was damaged by the water.. The phone is usable and is in use now, and the only problem is the touch still.. Is it worth a try?
If I send it in for repairs they may probably say it's unrepairable because I believe there are sensors in the phone that detect water damage, and I will have to pay for them to ship it back unrepaired...
If you have insurance on your phone you should read through it to see what is covered. Most cover water damage and cracked screens (lost/stolen usually not). If water damage is covered, most insurance companies will either give you a reconditioned model or in select few cases give money to replace it. If you are really lucky you will get a new one.
This is assuming you took out insurance specifically on your phone. If you are referring to homeowners or renters insurance, you will have to check your policy. Many cover the phone as a result of "acts of nature" or theft/robbery but may not cover accidents of your own doing.

Did it work?
I have similar issue and wondering if you replaced the front screen did it work?

I ended up buying a new screen with the frame and I changed it. It was pretty straightforward as I followed some youtube guides. Phone works perfectly now. I recommend that you buy the new screeen with the frame and everything because it's a real pain to change without the frame.
The centre strip of my touchscreen doesn't respond to any touch input, it's a perfectly straight strip in the middle of my phone. The glass is not broken, the phone is in great condition...
I can't reclaim on the warranty as not in the US atm, nor can I give up the phone before my warranty expires..
Same problem even in TWRP so definitely hardware related.
Any advice on a fix?
Thanks
If this phone was easy to open up I'd say pop it open and make sure the digitizer ribbon cable is firmly seated on the motherboard. Long shot, but if a few pins aren't making good contact maybe you could see some behavior like you're describing.
However, with the non-removable back and the fixed battery where it is this isn't the simplest check. You need a heat gun or a hair dryer just to get it open. Maybe watch some screen replacement videos and see if you feel like you're up to taking it apart yourself.
Also, tampering with this has potential to void your warranty, assuming it is intact.
My Pure has the same exact issue except it's directly on the nav bar. It happened after it was dropped. I used gravity box to raise the nav bar height by 20% and that fixed the issue of me not being able to use the home, back, and multitask buttons. Much easier than taking the phone apart.
This happened to me so i filed a claim with squaretrade. Online, they tried to replace it with a moto x (first generation) so, i quit trying online and called in for a claim. They don't have this device so they paid me out in cash. I had to pay $70 deductible and within 7 days, i received a check for $479. Then i bought a new one with bamboo back for just under $400 with Amazon prime. Winning.
I did call a local shop and they said they could fix it for $80. But, mine was from water damage so, i didn't want to risk it having more issues later.

I have the same issue. On mine. But it's actually on the nav keys I sent it for repair but they sent it back and no repair was done . Worst things they sent it even worst now I have going touches. No crack screen or anything. Definitely not buying another Moto product

Who did you send it in to for repair? It's obviously a problem with the digitizer. It can be caused by too much pressure being applied to the screen, water damage, or trauma to the screen. A crack isn't necessary for this to happen. It can and does happen on any brand of device. I wouldn't blame the manufacturer unless they were the ones you sent it to for repair. A local shop should be able to fix it for under $100.
