Is there a way to root a mt4g running the official gingerbread update?
If there is a way, can you still flash all the roms available for the mt4g?
Roms work with any version of android? Ex. Virtuous Unity running on 2.2.1
vs. Virtuous Unity runnging on 2.3.4

I did search and thats why I'm asking if gingerbread is root-able.
And I dont want to downgrade, that is why I'm asking if ginger bread can be rooted
My question is:
Can a Rom (example: virtuous unity) run on ANY version of android from 2.1 and +
so if virtuous unity can run on 2.2.1 on mt4g
will it also work if mt4g was on 2.3.4?
or is the rom just meant to run on 2.2.1.

I don't think you're understanding how it works. You have to downgrade back to 2.2.1 because 2.3.4 can't be rooted. Thus the need for the downgrade. VU doesn't "run on 2.2.1", you're basically flashing a completely new firmware on your phone with VU.

Hi,
I live in Canada and just got the new HTC Panache (made for mobilicity), which is pretty much like the HTC MyTouch4G or so i've heard. (The difference being that the Panache comes with 2.3 Gingerbread as the stock rom)
My question is, can i install the roms for the Mytouch4G such as Virtuous Unity or Royal Ginger onto my Panache? or should I wait for roms that come out specifically for the Panache??
First you would need to root it but I don't think there is a way for the panache yet...

I've heard you can use the Visionary method, just use Gingerbreak in place of Viisionary. If it's rooted with S-OFF after this method, then you can use the Panache just like the myTouch 4G.
Tryed everything

I have mobilicity Panache 4g as well. You can root it (I used this guide to downgrade & root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912) and use any rom from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=796. Go for coderz roms as he is really good with his stuff and still keeping our device rocking

Most likely a rooted 2.2 evo running a rooted stock 2.3 gingerbread rom; this has to be the case as there is no root for gingerbread.

what is a 2.2 rooted gingerbread rom? That doesnt even make sense.
There is absolutely root for stock gingerbread, just not if you accepted the OTA.
This guy probably just updated the phone to a pre-rooted Sprint EVO gingerbread rom obtained from right here on XDA.

Though on the point, its people like him that scam everyone into buying something its not, then let someone new to xda buy it then start a thread of 'I HAVE S-OFF GINGERBREAD ROOT!'
Just calling it now.
Okay, so I've looked everywhere and cant find my answer anywhere. I want to install a custom ROM (specifically royalginger 2.0) and don't have a data plan. The guy I got it from activated it with his SIM and then I just put mine in and it worked. I don't mind rooting.
I'm stuck on android 2.2.1 and want 2.3.4 with the new version of HTC sense (arching buttons on bottom, cube like app menu) and I only have a 2gb SD card which I'm willing to wipe. My question is, if I install the custom ROM, will I need to activate the phone again? I have no data plan so I can't do this. Or does the custom ROM have the option to activate over WiFi?
Also, what are my chances of pricking it?
Then You cant use Aosp roms
The aosp roms (plain Google roms like royalginger or cyanogenmod) dont support WiFi support.
Your going to have to use the newer sense roms which have an option for using WiFi to activate..... I prefer TDJ RCMix3D Runny v1.5.0 MT4G:: [SENSE 3.5]

AOSP ROMs such as Cyanogen(mod) do Support Logging into your Google account over Wi-Fi. Why do you think CM is so popular on the Nook color? and it has no HSPA(+),EVDO, Wi-Max or LTE Support. In fact, i just tethered my Nook to my Glacier to activate my account on it.
So if I do the virtuous unity, I can do the activation again without a data plan? Also, can it be done with only a 2gb SD card?

The Os will be written to the emmc and pulled off of the sdcard so yes?
And yes you can sign into your account via wifi and use that strictly. Just make sure to remove the apns and turn off auto sync and data to keep it from connecting to the servers of the cell phone provider

Okay, It got a little sketchy and I used gfree for s=off and then got perm root from visionary.
Umm, so the Rom I decided on was virtuous unity 2.37.0 because from what I read thr latest was too buggy and kept crashing
Good choice?

You should have a Permanent root, Latest Rom Manager & ClockworkMod Recovery Installed. I also recommend you to update your BusyBox.
Click to download Virtuous Unity 2.37 or Virtuous Unity 2.39 Rom.
Procedure
1. Download the Virtuous Unity Rom.
2. Do a Nandroid backup.
3. Make a Full Wipe (data & dalvik).
4. Reboot to Recovery & Flash the Rom.
Now reboot & enjoy the new Rom......
I have a problem, my bootloader says
00.85.2007? My understanding is that its supposed to be 00.85.000? Or is this nothing?
Also, in clockworkmod recovery, whenever I clock something, it just has a thing with an arrow that goes around it. I left it running for 7 hours and it still was doing it so I pulled the battery.
Anyone help? The phones on and running again

The original bootloader is 0.86.0000
The Rom you used to update might be something different....
Haven't installed the Rom yet, this is after root. I ended up having to use the gfree method to get s=off and VISIONary+ r14 to get permanent root.
And yeah, I know its 00.86.0000, wrong button
But it says my hboot is 00.85.2007
When I did the gfree, looking at directions from another site it said to use the command "./gfree" as the last command which I did, but another site says its "./gfree -f"??
Can I still flash the new ROM with the 00.85.2007 bootloader? I DO have root, and I DO have s=off
Edit: I'm also currently still on 2.2.1, no OTA update and this ROM looks awesome

I just had a shift 2.3.3 and spent a day or so bringing it back to 2.2 with root and the clockwork boot manager.
But how do i get a 2.3.3 or newer ota or as close to factory rom as possible to work with root?
I saw a rom called synergy which looks similar.

If you want the newest OTA 2.3.4 just rooted. Then Sparksco has the newest Rom in Rom Manager, as turkbot stated. Although if you go that route you will not have WiFi / USB Tether. You will just be on the Newest OTA 2.3.4 and Rooted. If you want a Rom that's based off the newest OTA but very close to Stock. Then newSense is what you want. Very close to Stock with extras, and very reliable. MikShifted G , not Stock. Many extras, and very reliable.

1. Is a radio that is from a GB firmware compatible with phone that is running a Froyo firmware?
2. If not then would i have to upgrade to the rooted 2.3.4 and then be able to change the radio?
3. Also does a nand backup made on one radio and firmware work on a different radio and firmware or would it just revert back
I've never heard of radios being incompatible with ROMs on this device.
The radio is not backed up or restored by a nandroid.

That is just what I suppose. I wouldn't take any risks flashing GB radio on Froyo...could brick it. So just stick to same firmware, same radio.

Yes. You will be stock GB, except rooted.
You may be right, as I know other devices have this issue. The thunderbolt, for instance has at least one thread dedicated to the topic. However, I don't recall anyone EVER reporting a brick related to radio version on the Glacier.
Can anyone report that they have?
