Ive been trying for about a week to get CM6 on my incredible. And i see some of the people on this forum have it. Ive contacted developers and users alike but for some reason I'm having trouble. After Root, I downloaded and installed Rom Manager but I'm unsure what to do next. I tried to flash Clockworkmod with the app, but when I boot up into recovery, I dont see The Clockwork menu, or the Nandroid backup option. I dont want to Flash the rom without being able to make a backup or install custom Update.zip files. Does anyone have any suggestions???PLEASE PM me for any suggestions!!!!!!!!!!!
If you aren't seeing the clockwork recovery, then you didn't run the reflash tool after you rooted. Run the reflash tool and it will load the custom recovery correctly.

Chances are if the unrEVOked tool isn't working, you may not have the right drivers installed. Check their wiki to make sure you do. Also, to get the nightly CM6 builds (when they resume, which will likely be shortly) you do have to buy the ROM manager premium license from the Market (which I recommend you do anyways as it goes to Koush who is the one responsible for developing CM6 for the DInc).

I just downloaded Rom manager for the first time, and it is giving me a message that I need to install Clockwork Recovery before using the program. But of course, I already have CWR installed from using unrevoked. I'm confused about the various responses in this forum as well as others. Some say you can reinstall CWR on top of the existing one just fine; others say if you install on top of an S-off version, there will be problems.
Which is true and how can I start using ROM manager?

You either need to manually edit the ROM Manager .settings file to get it to realize that you already have CWM recovery, or you have to let it download it for you. Doing so doesn't cause any problems (anyone who reported that it does is wrong).

Well I used the unrEVOked RC I got in there irc today on my friends Incredible, about 2 hours ago actually. I found out the it now does the unrEVOked root and unrEVOked forever (S-off) all in one. After I did that I made him buy ROM Manager. When you open it at the very top there is a button that says something along the line of Flash ClockworkMod Recovery. I clicked on that button, it asked if I was on the Incredible CDMA. I clicked yes and it automatically downloaded it for me. I was able to use ROM Manager to put CM6 on his Incredible with no problems.
Hey guys, I'm very much a newbie here so bear with me. I upgraded to the 2.21version about a month ago when some upgrade came out. Thinking it was an official upgrade I did it. I flashed the phone and it seemed to work ok. The problem is the camera doesn't work rendering my bar code not to work either. It seems ok other than that item, but would really like to get the camera up and running, and since Samsung doesn't seem to have the real 2.2 upgrade any time in the near future, I would like to fix this without flashing it again. What can I do to fix? Phone info is Model number sph-d700 baseband version s:d700.0.55.dk28 kernel version 2.6.32.9 fyoyo.dk28

well, are you rooted? it might just be the build. there are alot of different 2.2.1 builds out there for the epic. if you are rooted, you can just flash another rom, it will fix the issue. if you arent rooted, you will have to follow that guide to get back to stock. and i know its alot to decipher, but just take it ONE STEP AT A TIME. i would search for youtube videos on how to do it too, thats what helps me the most.

download the app "superuser" from the market, then download "android terminal emulator" from the market, open the terminal emulator, type "su" hit enter, and if you are rooted, a pop up will come up and say "blabbity blah is asking for superuser permission, accept? hit accept. if it worked, you should see this in the terminal emulator now "#" without the quotes, that is how you know if you are rooted. if nothing happens in terminal emulator, you are not rooted.
If there is a newer version, I would not mind going to that, if there is. I did do this about a month ago.

even if there is, you would have to go back to stock and then flash it through odin man
It said "not found" in the blue screen of su. I can only post every 5 min, bear with me, and thanks again for the help. What's next? Ok, going back to stock would be fine till samsung finally goes to a new version. If I go back to stock, will I lose everything? I did download Ti backup and it doesn't work. It says "please verify if the rom is rooted". And then it doesn't work. I guess I could have checked there to see if it was rooted.

Look under the section for odin stock flashing. And btw DK28 is not officially by samsung. It is a leaked build and they do recommend against not installing it since it is not finalized. The current most official kernerl is DI18 so you should grab the tar.md5 for that rom version and flash back to stock using odin. If you still want to try unofficial froyo roms make sure you use the one click root and recovery method to make sure you are rooted after going back to stock DI18. Then you are free to flash any froyo roms you want. Hope this helps man.

my understanding of odin is that in order to update builds, you have to downgrade. like 3/4's of the roms here make you unroot/downgrade, then re-root in order to install them.

I have been flashing for a while and never had to downgrade to update builds. If you have already flashed to the leaked stock DK28 you can install as many DK28 based roms as you want through clockwork mod as long as you wipe data/cache. You are definitely right in regards that he should odin back to stock Eclair DI18 since he is having camera issues because that definitely might help as it has helped me many times.

Okay i think you may be a little confused. There is no newer build. There is ONE stock DK28 leaked build which is what i assume you have. Now there are custom roms BASED on that leaked build which have various customizations and whatnot. You are more than welcome to flash a custom rom of your liking but they are not "newer builds", just customized roms based from the ONE leaked DK28 build.
Your best bet is to go back to di18 and wait on the ota. Stay there a little bit and do some more reading and learn a little more before you start doing this stuff. Learn about rooting and flashing roms. If you didn't know if you were rooted or not then most likely you were not. Use Odin to go back to di18. I know ut sucks losing all your data but in doesn't take that long to set your phone back up. Good luck.

This guy is right. What you have is most likely the stock version of the DK28 build. That version is known to have many issues. Being on that stock build of DK28 according to the info you posted, you are welcome to flash a customized DK28 ROM that has addressed these issues.
Again, you will not be required to downgrade your build in order to flash any customized ROM based on the same build (DK28)
For practical purposes, to flash (install) a custom ROM you WILL be required to be "rooted" and install a program onto your phone that gives you the ability to flash. The program that is universally used is called "ClockworkMod Recovery" and employs a simple "one-click" method to install onto your phone. This one-click method also gives you the root access on your phone that is required to flash a ROM. You can find the program and instructions on how to install it here:

does he still have to flash the DK28 modem?? i am totally new to odin, im coming from 4 HTC devices, so ODIN is like new territory to me.

He does not have to flash the DK28 modem because he's already on it. This is indicated by his baseband version being S:d700.0.5S.DK28

You need to install the "new" CWM.. the old (green) one doesn't work with the new kernel..
im not sure if im missing it but where do i get the new cwr

i believe if you dont flash the recovery either before or at the same time as dl30 you cant go back and flash it either...im not 100% on that though

Does anyone have a working link to the OLD Fascinate CWM .tar? The ones in topic here about is aren't working at all, they either give 404 or say that the poster's links are too busy and were disabled.

I flashed the New CWMR then DL30, I can get into CWMR with no problem.
I wish the new version did show a different version number though.

Maybe it was a bad install or my phone just doesnt want CWMR first. Either way it works now.

Just to clear up any confusion, the "new" CWM is also green, so don't think that the "red" CWM is the new one. The red one is just for voodoo kernels, and the last time I checked, neither the leaked DL30 stock build nor the Super Clean DL30 build supports voodoo, which means you actually need the CWM posted here: http://kaessa.com/files/froyo/DL30-cwm.zip
All of the above is true.
Be careful using that recovery, since it still uses koush's (BROKEN ASS) recovery.
I will try to put together a usable package tonight that uses the red cwm instead. That was a mear proof of concept test, not really meant for distribution.
oops, I totally left this part out but my cwm works perfect still, I never installed the new cwm package, I will now though.
I installed the new CWM first then the DL30 rom - this sent me to the TwLauncher force close loop of death. Reinstalled ROM 1st then new CWM and I'm now rocking 2.2 ...

hmm...I'm scared to even touch mine. lol. Followed one of adrynalyne earlier guides where you use odin to much cwmrecovery.tar and then flash clockwork mod in Rom Manager (can't seem to find it now). Rom manager says version 2.5.1.0 and I can still get into cwm.
I disabled voodoo, installed the new cwm, wiped cache/system reset, installed the super clean .7 with no problems at all.
I also rebooted after the voodoo disable and after I flashed the new cwm.
I can't wait for voodoo, the lag is driving me insane!

I can confirm that flashing the recovery after installing DL30 didn't work through Recovery mode. I attempted it twice to no avail. I'll retest with the new Red CWM when it's released.
Up until today I never did anything to my droid x as far as rooting and roms. I kept everything completely factory and android was at its latest version which is gingerbread 2.3.3 and system version 4.5.605.MB810.Verizon.en.US.
My goal today was to finally experiment this and install Liberty Rom. I completely failed because of all the version complications and plenty of other errors. Before I describe my final problem I should backtrack and let you know exactly what I did today so you can possibly get me out of this mess.
1. The very first thing I did was follow all of the steps at a forum on droid-life "How To: Get Rooted Gingerbread On DROID X" sorry it won't let me post the link.
After all of this I ended up with gingerbread again, but I guess a rooted version. No idea why this was the tutorial I followed when trying to install liberty. Throughout the tutorial I ended up buying "Droid X BootStrapper" because the tutorial had me use it.
Right after this tutorial I bought an app called Rom Toolbox for $5.00 downloaded Liberty through it and was trying to install through it. Every time it rebooted I would get a black screen. Never worked so many issues probably because I flashed the wrong sbf or something.
Here are the programs that I ended up buying today:
z4root (free), DroidXBootStrapper ($2.00), Rom Toolbox ($5.00).
That is everything I have done and all of the apps I own. Can someone please start fresh and give me short instructions to start from scratch on how to get the latest and greatest version of Liberty on my droidx from where I'm stuck at now. I want to completely start over and I am willing to do anything. I hope the apps I bought help and I also want to assume 2 of them probably do the same thing and I didn't need them.
Buying those tools will at least help support 2 members of the community (Koush & JRummy).
I'm pretty sure Z4Root does not work on the GB versions of DX firmware. That's probably why nothing is working. You aren't actually getting root.
you are on the .605 version of GB (when you see references to .602, .605, etc ...)

You may also want to download the Droid2 recovery rather than the DX. The D2 version is a little newer and I think avoids a slight bug on later kernels when Debug is on. The D2 version works just fine on the DX. It can be downloaded free from here:

Once you are rooted and have recover properly working, you should be able to use the Rom Toolbox to download and install Liberty. Just make sure you read carefully about the 'version' requirements on any ROM.
Oh ok so I was rooting it wrong.
I easily rooted the phone using Pete's Motorola Root Tools. I realized that Rom Toolbox Pro accesses clockwork recovery when the phone is rebooted instead of the phone just restarting fully. But, I still want to start fresh and do everything from the start again. Please let me know if you have any suggestions in the way or order I am doing things. My phone is currently up rooted at 4.5.596 and rooted by Pete's Motorola Root Tools but I want to start over from the beginning so here is what I am going to do:
Note: Before I do anything I am going to format my SD card for a fresh start.
1. Use RSD_Lite 4.9 to Flash my phone back to 2.3.340 using a file called VRZ_MB810_2.3.34_1FF_01.sbf. I always do this part with no problem.
2. Do a hold power+home then search and do a system wipe/restore. Then Activate service, sign into gmail etc.
3. Now that the OS is loaded (the old version with the grey bars 2.3.340) I am going to root my phone using Petes Root Tools. (I hope I can root it with this tool when the firmware is this version.)
4. Put the 3 zip files I have on my SD card to upgrade to GB 588. Also put my GB 596 file on here.
5. I will download 1 app. D2BootStrapper. Bootstrap recovery, reboot into recovery. Install all 3 zip files from SD card. Now I boot up in GB 588.
6. Now I go right back into D2BootStrapper. Bootstrap recovery, reboot into recovery. Install GB 596. Now I have GB 596 rooted and loaded.
7. After this, shouldn't I be able to download Rom Manager Premium and Rom Toolbox Pro and test as many roms as I want? always reverting back to my original backup.
I noticed after installing liberty I was getting all kind of force close popups. And the phone wouldn't connect to service. But then I just held power + home then hit the up/down arrows and did a wipe/restore and it loaded liberty and everything works. Is this normally what has to be done when installing roms?
If there is anything wrong with my process please let me know. Whew I can't believe all that I learned in 1 day.
You've got a lot of steps there that really aren't necessary. When you install a ROM like Liberty, it replaces EVERYTHING in /system. Thus, about all that is left from a .596, .588, .602, etc install is the kernel. The Kernel doesn't change very often in Motorola builds. The last change was on .602. Thus, for your purposes there is no difference between .602 and .605 (FYI, .605 was just a keyboard fix over .602).
So, if you search around, you should find an SBF or AIO flash file to get you to .602.
Or you can simply take the OTA update from VZW after SBF'ing to .340
Once you've flashed your Rom, be sure to clear data/factory reset. You should then start with a clean system.
Alright, if you don't mind can you please let me know what steps I can avoid.

So my goal should be to get to .605, then root it. Then install roms from there?
On your first post you said you were on .605. I'm assuming that is still the case.
If so, then root it with pete's tool (I think you've already done that).
Install D2bootstrap, then ROM Toolbox and install your rom from there.
I have to be honest, in that I've not used Liberty in a while, nor have I used Rom Toolbox. It shouldn't be a problem, just make sure that the version of Liberty you are using is for the GB kernel. Some of the older versions of Liberty (Which I did use, and like) were for the Froyo kernel (in that case, stay on .340 and do your upgrades).
Make sure you wipe data in recovery after installing the ROM. Lots of 'Boot Loops' are due to not wiping data after flashing a new rom.

Yeah I read up on all of that. I actually might not end up going with Liberty. Going to try others like ICX. But before I do any of this I need to get to .605.
No I am not at .605 I believe that's where my phone was before I started all of this.
Right now I am flashing back to 2.3.34
Once I am back up and running there. Can you please recommend the easiest way to get to .605 and that will be my final question.
.605 should update automatic. If not you can disable the updater using titanium backup by freezing system updater.
1. Use petes tools install cwm as well
A. Droid x bootstrap get this
B. Titanium backup. Backup your apps
2. Make a backup using cwm and backup apps with tb
3. Put the rom zip files on the sd card.
4. Reboot to recovery. Reformat system data etc
DO NOT REFORMAT THE SD CARD.
5. Wipe cache davik etc.
6 flash rom. And reboot.
7 run tb for your apps
Should be a smooth and clean install. The roms are already rooted so no need to worry about that. Hope this helps

In this list is an SBF file for .602. Since you seem comfortable with doing SBF's, I would just SBF straight to .602 and root it from there.
Don't know much about ICX, but would encourage you to look at the CM7DXGB thread over at Rootzwiki as well.
ohh, well I just went to Settings > About Phone and its auto updating to .605
Am I not going to be able to root it after this update or should it be fine.

Pete's Root tool should root .605 just fine.
One last thing
As far as Clockwork recovery goes.
Should I always be in the latest version 5.0.2.0 (the blue version)
Or the old version 2.something (the green version)
Why is there 2 version and why would I ever want to flash back to the old version 2.something?

Couple things most of the updates are to add support fix minor bugs etc.
I run the one from petes all the time I forget which version. I haven't had problems.
On my mt4g slide I had to flash a modified verson of clockwork due to my phone being newer and not as much support
With that said its not a difficult process to get a new recovery image. You would need terminal emulator and root explorer. Couple of great guides on here on how to do so. Also other methods as well.
All in all the ones that pete's give you should suffice. Unless your one of the extreame types of people who want the newest or like messing around.
Just remember backups can make the process and hassle of soft bricking your phone much easier to fix and takes a few mins to do.
Look around the forums lots of great information from the devs, experts, etc

The newer version changes the way backups are stored. The new format is smaller and quicker.
Among other issues/bug fixes as mentioned before, but the backup issue is important as the new version will not restore the old style backups.
