install app on sd on htc mini hd - HD Mini General

hi all i m new on android on our device.
i have that problem :
on my device i have a sd with 8 gb (i know..it s not very much... ),with installed android, and other app on by wm 6.5.
android some days ago started to say impossible install the app because not enough space.
i linked device on pc,and see there are about 2 gb free space on sd... ...
well where is the problem for android?
he decided to give some space factory how device's space, and need a partition to see remain space how sd space?
sorry for my english i m from italy(and google traductor it s not better than me).

Maybe a market problem? The updated market gives me low space errors sometimes. in phone settings you can go to manage applications then tap on 'all' and scroll down to market and tap on it. then tap in uninstall update. Works for me for the next app I download but then it updates again and gives me the error for the next app. Sorry if i'm not understanding you but it's worth a try.

thanks for the quickly answer, but i don't think it s a market problem, because in the notify bar there is in continue the messagge the space it s finishing...but it s not true....20 minutes ago i erased 900Mb lol.... i suppose a pair of app on 900Mb free can be installed....or not? (i mean app and not games.)

i suppose android decide to take some space(for example 3gb of the sd) and use that how device memory.
then when that space it s full,it say the space it s finish.
maybe if our sd it s partitioned (for example a part with the apps of win +exe of android and another part called sd,used for sd card for android) can install app in sd space how sd and then not how device memory.... lol...i know it s complicate to understand what i m saying..

Maybe your sd card is partitioned? Try instaling http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html and see if you have something wrong in your sd card

no no my sd is not partitioned

Have you tried simply rebooting or rescanning media files?

if youre booting android and installing apps on that droid... maybe its because of the size limitation of system.ext2 files which created... who knows.... right...

memory card ?

sorry for this question but i've just got this amazing phone but i've put some apps on the sd card and can't find the sd card on the phone ? even googled this but to no avail ! please help a newbie , thanks !
you mean the physical location of the SD Card? Its under the back cover. You need to remove the battery to get it out.
Also, apps are not stored on the SD card, but rather on the internal memory of the phone.
A couple of things. First you need to set up the phone for non market applications. This is done thru Menu>>settings>>applications and check the box that says Unknown Sources.
Next, if you use Astro or some other file manager, you can go to /sdcard and whatever folder you keep your apps in.
I use EOEAppsinstaller to do this. It searches the whole SD card to find any APK files. Works great.

Yes and no. You can put apk's that you find on the net so you can put them on the SD card so you can install them but as for installing them so they run off the SD card that won't happen until you root the phone.

+1 for Astro File Manager! It also has a built in apk installer AND task killer. I love multitasking apps.
your movie should appear in the Gallery

another yes and no. Due to a bug both RAM AND ROM are limited to ~230MB ...all are waiting for the next update.
Took me 10 mins to type this in landscape mode due to keyboard bugs!

The 512MB Flash ROM is shared between the OS and your installed apps. The amount left over for your installed apps after the system reserves space for the OS, scratch, recovery, and update partitions is around 190MB or so. Google mentioned that they are working on allowing us to store installed apps on the SD card so the size of this partition should not matter eventually.
The 512MB RAM is not used for storing the apps, it is used for running them and is a different set of memory. In 2.1 there is a kernel limitation that prevents them from using all 512MB just yet, but the next version of the Android Linux kernel will remove that restriction and we should see another 100 to 150 MB of memory available for use. That improvement won't have any impact on how many apps you can install, just on how many apps you can run at the same time and how much work they can do before they elbow other apps out of the way.

Sound cool if they really let us install on sd would be very nice and for me no more reasons to root my n1

Even more importantly - there would be no more disincentive for developers to start creating more interesting media-rich applications.
As it stands now, if you put a 10MB app on the market very few are going to be willing to waste that much space on their phone to download it. So, you wouldn't make much money on it. So, you are likely not going to bother developing it.
With relaxed storage restrictions will come nicer (looking, at least) apps...

sorry for my dumb question..but how does it work? i installed 2.5 on my rooted milestone with 1gb ext2 partition on sd card.
then i chose "install app2card/transfer apps"..it said that all apps were copied to ext2 and i can see it from the drive infos.
but now? i have the apps both in internal and external memory? i wanted to free some space in internal memory..how can i do it? i tried to translate the vietnamese page but it wasn't so clear (at least for me). any help would be very appreciated, thanks.

after transferring the apps, have you reboot the phone? if you've rebooted, open App2Card to see whether it is successful or not.
if there's no error message pop-up and the AppStatus: is showing "Locaton: SD CARD" then you're good to go.
to clear-up your internal memory, power-off the phone, remove SD card and boot.
(don't worry, it will boot) with something like the phone is reset. there, uninstall the apps that appearing in the list. (except App2Card) it will clear more space. (don't worry about the apps, it's already copy to your SD card).
once you've finished, insert the SD card and reboot.
then, click Menu>Wipe>Dalvik-Cache>Internal Memory
it will release some more space in your internal RAM.
hi thank you
use milestone 2.1 rooted and run app2card 2.793 ...goes fine
but find weierd issue with wifi and fat 32 sd card. i do reboot & pull out sd card still same..
if milestone able to conect wifi network the fat32 seem not mounted/ not accesable
turn off the wifi restart and fat 32 can read .but then turn on wifi ,not able to conect to same wifi network
how to fix this...thx

How to move app to sd card for nand roms!

Hi guys, i found an app in the Amarket called Move2SD Enabler! This app change the root of the app and u can move it on sd, even if the app is installed in the phone memory! I'm italian so the app is in italian and i dunno if the app is multilanguage! so i post a guide how to do!
search and download the app!when u open it u have to choose external to move all app on sd! then u choose apply and give the root permissions and then u go to settings and manage apps and move downloaded app on sd.. nad save a lot of internal memory... bye guys! hope this helps u!
Hello !!
Maybe this is not good post for reply to this , but i was thinking about apps running from sdcard , remember, nand is internal memory, so if you put apps on sdcard (external) you should be less better life battery than apps running from Nand, this will access more times to the sdcard and it will remember you time of non-nand roms ...
You decide ! ...i have an usage of sdcard for Photos , videos , downloads, etc etc... maybe i tell true...you should test it ...you will see better battery life i think....

JPhilouxx, for European users, the big concern about NAND is the low internal storage of the phone after installing the NAND BUILD. Sometimes the free memory at the start- without adding any app, just the NAND BUILD as is- is just 180 MB. Taking into account that some apps can not run from SD, like Google Maps, Opera, ADOBE FLASH.... we have serious problem just to use main apps. Always the message of low internal memory appears everytime you are updating google mail or google maps. Even some apps can not just move to SD completely, so we are waiting for any fix to this low internal memory. I have seen that some developers have started to split the IMG into SD although main system is loaded from internal memory.
In the meantime, some apps like our italian colleague is talking about can be a little help.

This is what I recommend.
Root your HD2 Android phone by donwloading z4root.apk.
http://tinyurl.com/32yarv5
Apply and restart phone.
Download and install ModInstallLocation.
http://tinyurl.com/3a2flgc
In Superuser app, allow ModInstallLocation app.
Restart phone.
In ModInstallLocation app choose location 2 (SD Card) and save
Maybe restart can't remember.
From now on any app you download will AUTOMATICALLY be installed on SD card. Also you can move your existing apps from Phone to SD in the Application settings.
BRILLIANT STUFF!

Thank you very much for your tips. Thinking to avoid Titanium Back Up for the moment, as not all app are restored to SD, so it will be better going one by one.

Thank's for this answer , for me i've installed all my apps , i think more 60 apps with low and good sizes as games etc... it run fine and very smooth with cpu clocked to 806mhz, i have tweaked rom via Cyanogenmod in the performance menu and i have a really big difference on speed, when i click on my tasker for end apps i have +300mo free on ram, but really thinking about desire hd roms , i've tested each one and i have this message memory alert with 20apps or 30, depends on size.. my choice is CyanoGenMod Rom's because no really need to install this "Apps2sd" and my battery know it!! i have 25mo free internal memory on my Hd2 with all my apps installed ..soo what else ?! i don't need )
My 8gb sd card have a much free space for all others things ..
sorry if i don't really understand all you message but i see what you want to say!
Thank you Mr Rocheau
But really this will be nice if it's splitted to sd because many desire hd roms will be not very "usable(???)" with low memory , so i prefer return to non nand desire hd builds on sdcard like before ..this will be the same i think for battery life ..maybe not ..all advices are welcome !!! ))
Maybe you should go 'hybrid' and place applications that you use a lot on your internal memory. And apps that you don't use a lot (like games and navigation software for example) on your SD card. This way you will only use extra power when you use these apps.
For the moment I'm waiting on a clean android NAND build. Sense takes up a lot of NAND space..
yes this is true ,before i've installed senses roms , desire hd build, with nand tech' and exactly do the same thing what you say , this is an option , really !
Each of us should test more and more tweaks like that and we'll know how many drain on it with our batteries.. So much more times on our lovely Htc HD2 !!! we need to spend more time on it for find the best hardware configuration for an usual daily rom, i think future is with CyanoGenmod Rom's they are the best for our HD2 and stable for daily use... sorry again i'm french i don't speak english so much..thanks

[Q] market place tells me "no space" with over 2gb of internal storage left!
As some of you may have read on an earlier thread of mine where my phone got stuck looping Droid screens it has now come back to life.
i now have this issue that when i go onto market place to get my apps back, it tells me there is no space to install this. i have a 16gb card which has been partitioned as fat32 for music etc and ext 2 for apps. its formatted the same as before my phone died except im now using a 16gb card not 8gb.
why is it telling me there is no space when clearly there is?
thanks
Hi
I think you are confusing internal storage and sd storage.
If you use a program like titanium backup, it will show you on the opening page all the available storage you have (internal,sd and ext).
If you have no internal storage, it's possible you didn't use correct system partition according to the [OP] recommendation.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA Premium App
The Market did that to me earlier too. It's some kinda glitch. I was able to download the app after I just tried a few times.
^ Shift Faced
You can use spare parts 2.1 Update (it's somewhere on the forum) to make App2SD+ install apps on the External storage (the ext2/3/4 space)
I think that you need to download a script that fixing this problem because the market application needs a links to the cache files.

[Q] Insufficient Space for apps

I'm sorry if this has been asked already but I'm really new to all of this, I recently put the cyanogens rom on my HD2 and everything works fine but for some reason I can't download apps on the marketplace because it says Insufficient Space on device but I have a 16gig sd and 555mb still left on my internal?
go to your apps from the settings and move them (start with the largest) one by one to the sd card.

I've done that but for some reason it still says I don't have enough space is there anyway to make the sd the default place where marketplace downloads go to?
search the market for app2sd, you'll be notified each time you can move a new installed app to sd
Same issue
Im having the same issue. My phone says that i have used 19mb and i have 768mb free on the internal storage. But when i try to install something i get an out of space error. This is the first time that ive had this issue. ive gone as far as wiping everything with task 29 and starting over with a new rom. same issue. Any ideas?
Try to install a rom with ext support and create ext 2 partition with cwm recovery in magldr , it will work i think.
That could help:
1. Reboot into CWM Recovery
2. Advanced\Fix Permissions
3. Reboot
