So I went on My Verizon account a few minutes ago to pay my bill and this is what it says next to the picture of my phone:
"Eligible for a Discount!"
"You ARE eligible to upgrade with discounted pricing. If you upgrade on or after 5/18/12 you are eligible to receive an additional loyalty discount."
And I clicked that and went to the page that shows available phones and pricing and it's showing 2-yr contract prices e.g. iPhone4 16GB new 199.99 and Droid Charge new 249.99. I thought it was an error and I clicked the Droid Charge and followed through up to payment and the total for the phone was 249.99 plus tax and activation. Obviously I didn't follow through because if I were to get a new phone it would be the Nexus Prime =D.
Last time I went to checked out phones it said I was not currently eligible for an upgrade and showed off-contract pricing. Is anyone else's account showing this? It has thrown me off a little bit.
Update 10/8:
Went to talk to a rep today and the main line on a contract gets to upgrade after 12 months. The pricing is based on a new 2-year commitment plus $20. Early upgrades can only be done at Verizon retail stores and online. Nexus Prime, here I come.
I saw the early upgrade as well.
I am not receiving the same treatment

my mom's line says the same thing. they'll let you upgrade and renew your contract but the phone will be at 2 year price with no additional discount for upgrading on or after your upgrade date.

I got an email from the with the early upgrade. I guess they want to add an additional 2 years to our contract. If you keep upgrading every chance you get, pretty soon, you've going to be locked into a 4 year contract making it almost impossible to leave.

How can they do that? By signing a new 2-year agreement the old agreement is invalid. That means that your contract expires 2 years after you sign the new agreement but not the 2 years plus the extra time left on the current contract.
The main line can actually upgrade once a year. But I at lower discounted price that 18 mths.

The prices is it showing me are prices I would pay at 18 months e.g. iPhone 4 16GB new 199.99 and Droid Charge new 249.99. These are fully discounted prices not partially discounted. Also, I thought Verizon did away with annual upgrades even for the main line?
Verizon did get rid of annual upgrades, but only earlier this year. If you signed a contract before they took the annual upgrade away then you are still grandfathered in.

Because they are some shiesty bastards lol. I called enough times and complained about my droid eris being laggy and not having enough ram to run the system let alone any added apps. I told them the only way to get it to run right is to flash a new rom, but that would void my warranty. Agent said he would let me chose any new device for free other than the thunderbolt(which was just released at the time)... So I had them send me a new fascinate and got to keep my eris, don't ask me how or why but they did it. About a week later when I went to log on my vzw account to pay bill I seen my contract was extended one year(on top of the 2yr I agreed to on the eris 6mo prior) without even telling me!! I didnt get too upset because they sent me a brand new fassy for free. My point is: Vzw wireless policy depends on the region of the country your call got directed to... I have been told so many different policies on what they can and cant do, you would think your talking to a completely different company. Vzw is the like the damn weather man, the forecast changes everyday!!!
Signing a new contract does not necessarily void a previous one unless it explicitly states so. Ever notice you sign a two year contract but they let you upgrade after 18 months.
2 reasons..1. they want as many people to update prior to the new 4th quarter phones come out. that way people will have used their upgrade discounts and pay a higher price for the latest phone.
2. they want to jack the revenues for the 4th quarter where vast majority of pure profit is made (think black friday).

By signing a new contact chances are you will no longer get the unlimited 4g, but fall in to there new tiered data plan. Be very cautious when upgrading your phone if you have unlimited now.

This is false...if you upgrade from 3g smartphone to 4g smartphone you keep unlimited data long as you had it before the tired plans went into effect. I called about it and went on the website to check. It would let me upgrade to lte and keep the same unlimited data just had to pay retail since im under contract right now.

Yea like I said I went through the entire process up to payment. It offered me the $30 2GB plan and my old Unlimited $29.99 plan. Obviously I would choose the latter. Only if this evasive Nexus Prime gets launched soon...
called vzn last week about the missed calls and not getting text or pic messaging and the tech i talked to said the problem is known and that vzn was allowing early upgrades plus an extra $50 off if you have a fascinate. told her that was nice but i shouldnt have to pay for a new phone since mine was less than a year old. still waiting for the second tech to call me back. not sure what they are going to offer as a replacement phone yet but it had better be good.
If you have the unlimited data plan, make sure they do not rope you in on their new data plans. When my Fascinate got replaced, the reps at the VZW store also changed my data plan as well. I was furious when I found that out, and they refused to fix it.
Called the VZW customer support, I explained the whole ordeal and they fixed my data plan back to unlimited. Just be cautious when you try to upgrade, make sure you'll get that unlimited data plan (disregard this post if you entered Verizon with the new data plans )

Okay I'm confused...
I ordered a Nexus S from best buy for $199 and it just arrived today... I called tmobile to activate the phone and they said I can get setup on this Even More Plus plan which has no contract and is $20 cheaper than the regular plan... not knowing anything about this I just said sure????
So now I'm reading more about this Even More Plus stuff on T-Mobile and it says you have to buy a phone at full price to qualify for this price.... buuuuut I paid bestbuy $199 for the phone.... how/why/huuuuuuh?????
So... I verified on my tmobile account that it is infact setup as the Even More Plus for $59.99/month... and also verified bestbuy billed me $199 for the phone...
what am I missing?
It does say that you might get an ETF added onto your account if you started a new 2-year plan already -- might want to look into that.

He'll be OK. I went into a tmobile store to activate it and they switched it after the fact. Basically treated as a price plan adjustment. doesn't require a new contract.

But that's what I'm saying... they didn't start a 2-year plan on my account... and I didn't have tmobile previously (this is new service).
I've called and talked to a few people now on tmobile and they're all telling me I have no contract...
Isn't bestbuy getting ripped here? Shouldn't they have charged me $529 for the phone if I was going to get this no contract plan with tmobile?
Weird... I did the same thing, but mine auto-activated. And I was given a 2-year contract with my Nexus S. If you don't have a contract though, kudos. You saved over $300 and $20 monthly!
I would chalk it up to their mistake and your win. Congrats. I love Even more Plus

I didn't even know about it until now... I hadn't really payed too much attention to the plans, I was more so getting the phone to try it out. At this "deal" I can't really give it back though... lol
Bestbuy.com has been having problems with their mobile orders communicating with T-Mobile. It took me 2 days and hours on hold to actually get this phone ordered and the person I finally got to push the order through for me said there was a communication error going to T-Mobile... so he pushed it through "manually" and shipped me the phone... Well, when I got the phone the SIM card it came with wasn't activated so I called and they're telling me no contract.
yay?
yay!
Now just to adjust to the blueish tint on this screen and I can finally be happy...
Damn, explain how you did it. I would like to try this out!

Well T-Mobile officially sucks as far as service.
I wonder what will happen if I discontinue service with T-Mobile when I'm on a plus plan... will this come back to bite me in the butt later from best buy or do they no additional ties after selling me the phone???
Here is a catch: you still have to oblige the remainder of contract even you migrated to EM+.
For example, if you signed 2 years contract today and change to EM+ 6 months later, you still have to oblige the rest of 18 months and still subject to ETF if you have your number cutoff or ported out.
This happened on me as I was on 2 years contract after obtained TM717 with contract and migrated to EM+ 8 months later.

Ya but I didn't sign a 2 year contract then go to EM+ 6 months later... I signed up at best buy for new service then called T-Mobile and activated the phone with EM+ and they say I have no contract. As far as I can tell, I could easily just port my number and get no ETF because no contract. Unless best buy follows up with it somehow?
So i am not up for upgrade until march 2012 but i decided to check and see what the OTD price was thru att for the atrix on my account. I pulled it up, and oddly enough it showed 199!
I went through the checkout process, but it wouldnt fully process the final checkout because i have unlimited data and i wouldnt pick a new data plan. Instead, i printed out my cart showing the final price of 199 + tax and took it into our local ATT store.
Talked to the manager there and he said he'd grandfather my data plan in, AND honor the price given on the website! so i'm getting my atrix tuesday morning for 199 even tho i just used my upgrade for my captivate in july!
SO STOKED!
How did you manage to get it for that price online? I'm in the same boat as you, I upgraded to my captivate in august and i'm not due for upgrade until 2012
If this is true, can you provide a few more details? I would also love to give this a shot.
Holy cow. Is there any way this is possible if you aren't a current AT&T customer? Lol

When they pay $500 for a phone it doesn't make sense for them to sell it for $200 without contract. It would never be able to happen in my store and my manager is extrememely lenient.

Wtf.........
Well, luckily with AT&T no phone of mine has ever really been "on a contract"... When I called the cancellation dept to preorder my Atrix....errr.... "switch to Verizon or Sprint".... They told me if I stayed, they'd cancel the last 10 months of my contract if i signed a new 2 year contract...and they gave me the Atrix for $174.99 with free overnight and no upgrade fee.... This is the same trick I pulled when I upgraded my phone last time 1 year into my 2 year contract! In other words, their "contract" is really BS if you talk to the right person in the cancellation dept who will keep throwing it out the window to keep you as a customer.

Nice!! Ive never tried that thinking they might go ahead and just cancel my service instead of giving me what I really want lol
Don't worry about having that happen. The goal of their "cancellation dept" is to do just the opposite. It should be named the "retention dept"! The first thing the guy told me on the phone (which was kinda cheesy) was "I'm superman and I have superpowers to keep you a satisfied AT&T customer!" And he did indeed have the superpower to throw my existing contract out the window and alter the presale price of the Atrix. Just call up, act dissatisfied with your current phone...ask how much your termination fee is...point out that it's cheaper for you to switch carriers than pay full price for the phone... then you're on your way to a new cheap phone! :-D

when i'm able to get back into my ATT account ill post screen captures
i ordered mine on the website out of contract, have my receipts showing the 199 price, lol. it was a flaw in the preorder website for the phone,it was because of the dock price, a att rep just reported to me. they called me and told me they would be canceling my order and redoing it at the full price,as it was an error, i told them to cancel my contract while they were at it,if they weren't going to honor a price i agreed to pay, they then agreed to let me buy the phones at the 199.99 price

I did almost the same thing. I bought the inspire for 99 on a new service contract. I then went online 3 days later to see what the price of the atrix would be without contract. When I got to check out it was $199. The phone is now in the hands of fedex for delivery tomorrow.

Same here. Bought a Captivate back in July '10, iPhone 4 in Nov '10, my line (the Captivate) was only ~7 months into my current 2 year contract.
Last Wed (the 16th) went through the normal process, added the phone as an "upgrade" for me, went in the cart for $199, changed (again, right online) from the $30 Unlimited Data to $30 Unlimited Data w/ HSPA+
I *suspect* this was simply an early upgrade allowance (plus pre-order discount), and I'll be into a brand new 2 year contract.
Phone is on the FedEx truck due to be delivered today (in the next hour or so).
I got an email today From: "Sprint" <[email protected]>. I thought the notes were something we all want to see. The bold part is what i find the most interesting.

Can you actually use the airave upgrade though?
They'll just say someone had an incorrect file added to the reply they sent etc. I think you might be able to sweet talk your way into it for this year at least. 2 friends from work went to the local 3rd Party Sprint dealer they like and he was going to reset the upgrade dates for them. I don't know what he does or how he did it, but he did for her cousin/relative earlier that week. I think she said he had a heat ticket created for them both.

You're not supposed to be able to, but people ahve done it. A few peeps on Sprintusers changed that to their primary line once it had a year showing on their account and upgraded phones. Then immediately switched the AirRave back to that line when they got home. I don't know of they have closed this loophole or not, it's not supposed to work that way.

Wirefly shows it as eligible for an upgrade haha.. sort of tempting.
Well it's funny because as soon as they added the Airave line to my account it was eligible.
Hmm, if I can use the $150 upgrade discount on the airave, I'm going too! They won't do crap for me about their 3G speeds. They just say: Okay ...to everything I saw. Mindless robots, I think.
Hmm, Amazon Wireless is saying that the airave line is good for a discount...
Like I said it works and people have done it. But it's not normal protocol, I dunno if they would do anything about it though?
I've successfully used the Airave to grab an Epic last year for my wife. Looked on the web page when it was done and saw that I didn't have an upgrade available for the Airave so I knew it worked.
The funny thing was, in the process of reverting the #s back, Sprint accidentally canceled my Airave rather than switch it. When they put the Airave back onto my account, they reset the upgrade status so it said get $150 off the new phone again.
I'm premier gold now anyways so no problems getting the yearly upgrade but now I have three with me, my wife, and the Airave.
best bet is to keep your evo nice and shiny, sell it on ebay and pay retail for your new phone, im assuming evo 3D. worst case it costs your $100 or so but you dont have to sign a new contract.

How did you go about using the upgrade on your airave line?
My mom recently washed hers and the best option is to just pay retail for one, but if I can use the airave $150, I'll do that for her; our 3 lines still have $150 discounts.
So, if I use the airave line/$150, the contract reups and starts at 2 years again, right? Then...when we use the $150 discounts on the 3 evo lines when the evo 3D comes out, the contract will reup and start at 2 years again, right?

I just walked into Best Buy and told them I wanted to use my Airave number. The reason I did this was when I bought the Evo, I heard the workers saying that yes it was possible to some other customers and that they've done it.
Now, I then headed to a third party Sprint store to had them switch #s back on the same day. The crux of the situation was that you had to wait at least 24 hours to switch back. Well, since my wife had work calls, I tried and do it that same day and it kinda sorta worked out. That was when they cancelled my Airave instead of switching it Weird thing was my Airave still worked for the next few weeks. It was when it stopped working and I saw a $150 extra charge that I called and asked why I had this charge and why the Airave didn't work. They said cause I called and cancelled it and I'm like no, I don't want to cancel I want to switch.
Yes, I think it renews the 2 year agreement of the Airave cause when I did it and went to the website, it didn't have the upgrade a phone for $150.. now it does cause of Sprint's little snafu but I don't need to use it for a while since I have 2 other upgrades
Yes all contracts renew to 2 years if you opt for the full discount.
Att,verizon, and t mobile all making it possible to upgrade every 6 months or with verizon I believe its a year, any one herd of any news of sprint doing this? I would love that, because phones do need a upgrade every 3-6 months, I would definitely be willing to pay an extra 10 or 15$ to be able to do this

I just wish Sprint would bring back their BTA (bill to account) option. I don't mind paying full price for a phone if I have a month or two in which to pay it and with the BTA feature, if I scheduled a purchase just right (day after a new billing cycle started) I had two billing periods before it was due.
I'm not sure Sprint will go down the early upgrade road since they've taken the unprecedented step of offering the unlimited data forever plans but time will tell.
being a former sprint rep, they do have an early upgrade program but it's a little bit different. So basically your upgrade or discounted pricing is in exchange for 2 year contract. Phones normally MSRP from 450-650 for the smartphones. So what sprint does occasionally and it's based purely on the account, as well as payment history, tenure, and other factors (from what I've been told), they have an upgrade now offer. Instead of having to pay the full MSRP on the device, you would have an upgrade now amount that could range from 50 bucks to 275. The way that the program works is that you would pay that upgrade now amount and by doing so it would get you to your upgrade pricing. It is NOT buying out your contract. Simply means you are upgrade eligible. So say you have a 50 dollar upgrade now and you wanted to get the GS4 which retails at 249.99 before the 50.00 mail in rebate (which would bring it to 199.99), you would basically be paying the 249.99 for the device, and then an additional 50 bucks which is your upgrade now offer bringing the OTD price to 299.99 before tax, but you still get the 50 dollar mail in rebate. Another thing about the program, I would not be an MOD EDIT to the rep about this program too, because company policy says that this is supposed to be a one time offer, and if you do not accept it, we are "technically" supposed to click a little box that says decline offer, and then you just have to wait til your normal upgrade time. At least in my store we don't normally do that, unless the customer is irate or gets escalated, we leave it on there for the customer. Also, sometimes the upgrade now ill drop as it gets closer to your 20-month upgrade date, but sometimes it will not. Also, at least in corporate stores, we have to do everything in the same transaction, so you cannot pay the 50 bucks, then run to best buy and get the phone for cheaper. People have gotten fired for that, and our DM highly emphasizes this. Another thing you can do is cross upgrade, which means using someone elses upgrade, so if you have someone on the same account and want to use their upgrade if you know they don't plan on upgrading for a while, or even someone on a different account, then you can use their upgrades. one thing to note though when cross-upgrading, you WILL lose your mail in rebate. Hope that helps!

And you can BTA still, however you can only do accessories on consumer accounts. If you have a business, you can BTA devices and accessories. So if you have a Tax ID or self employed, by all means, GET A BUSINESS ACCOUNT! lol

Kinda/sorta related to this is something we learned a few weeks ago: Sprint apparently offers the ability to "gift" an upgrade... I'm not sure I got the explanation exactly right, but basically it looks like if you're eligible for an upgrade, but someone else on your account isn't, you can give them your upgrade at any time.
In addition, we learned another nifty "trick"... if you have multiple lines on your account with different contract dates, you can, if the dates work out, in a sense upgrade both phones each year! Here's how it works...
This year, my wife and I had SGS3's, my two kids had some old Nexus'... we went in to the local Sprint store and upgraded my kids' phones to the SGS4, since they were eligible... but my wife and I were not for another year... we couldn't very well have our kids having better phones then us of course, so at the same time we had them swap our SGS3's with their new SGS4's... just literally change the lines on all four phones. Me and the wife got the SGS4's, the kids the SGS3's. As it turns out, the kids were SUPPOSED to have had the SGS4's for 30 days before they did the swap, that's apparently the rule, 30 days before you can do a line swap... but they let it go this time anyway since we had previously been told we could do the swap the same day but the waiting period wasn't mentioned.
Eh, whatever, the bottom line is that every year we can go in and effectively upgrade ALL FOUR phones... the kids will always get the hand-me-down's and be a cycle behind the latest models, but hell, an SGS3 is nothing to balk at today, and they'll be very happy with the SGS4's next year. If your contract dates are far enough apart like ours then you can do this too (if one person doesn't mind being one generation behind too). It's not illegal or against the rules at all

That's funny. I got my SGS4 by adding a new line to my account and swapped the SGS4 on the new line with my SGS3 on my current line the night I got the phone. It's the only time I've done it so I don't know if the dude just didn't care or didn't know. Also...much like you, By the time the next Galaxy comes out either my line or my 2nd line will have an upgrade I'll be able to use. It's a nice system.

So you pay an additional $10 a month and they allow you to swap your phone for a new one? I didn't know you could do that. Guess is like paying io front for a new phone

i did the early upgrade last year and they billed me the 150$ it cost to do the early upgrade.. so i only had to come to the store with the 200$ plus tax for the phone.. then i just tried to do one again they said i could.. but they stopped billing the $$$ its costs to upgrade.. they said it was 200 to early upgrade but they said they stopped billing that u have to come to the store with the money when u buy the phone.. so i said screw that! so i needed 250$ for the s4 plus 200$ to do the early upgrade.. i just ended up starting a new line to get the s4.. i should have just waited cause they put my other line in sesonal standby for 6 months.. but i dont have anyone to take over that over line when the 6 months is up.. so im screwed pretty much ill have to do a ETA which will be 350!! wish there was something i could do since im still keeping my s4 line.. 350$ is a bad hit.. will they give me time to pay the 350$ off.. cause i cant pay it at once.. ill could pay extra on my bill every month till its paid off tho.. if they let me

It's not a promotion it's their new Mobile Share Value plan. Every Next device, device that's completed a two-year contract, and customer owned device receives $15 off the monthly device charge. Here's the catch. While the prices for the data packages remain the same (Mobile Share<>Mobile Share Value) the cost per subsidized device on the Value plan goes up $10. So if you a subsidized device and a non-subsidized device on the same plan you'll end up saving $5 ($-15 non-subsidized device $+10 subsidized device = $-5). I have two non-subsidized devices and my monthly charges dropped $30.
Thanks for the info. I will go into an AT&T Store, over the weekend, and see if I can benefit from this. I have a Note 3 that was given to me by Best Buy, as an insurance replacement. I'm not knowledgeable, but doesn't that mean I own the device?? I talked to AT&T this even, by coincidence, seeing what they could do to lower my monthly bill. I mentioned switching over to T-Mobile, and the offers started pouring in. I got six months free unlimited texting, my bill for this month was reduced by almost half, and I was given 5,000 extra rollover minutes! The retentions rep was also going to give me an early upgrade on the spot, somehow not realizing I already owned a really new phone. It would be cool to see if I can also get this $15/mo off of my bill, too!
Here's a comparison of the new vs. old Mobile Share plans. I don't think the old one's offered any longer. You can see that the new pricing can save you money under certain circumstances and cost you money in others. The old plan lowered the monthly price you paid per device based added to the plan with larger data plans being charged lower monthly device fees. The new plan is flat.
That was a game changer what T - Mobile announced at CES... I'm staying with att though. After 7 years of sprint and horrible service att has been very good to me. Plus the service is outstanding in my area

So what does this mean?
if you have a phone out of contract you can save money? If you upgrade your phone the usual way with the 2 year contract they charge you a little more...and if you go with the next plan what happens?
thanks sorry for the ignorance but the post to me isnt 100% clear

Still confused, myself. Talked to someone at AT&T last night. They were really apprehensive about entertaining my question about this plan, as I only have a single line. There's a lot of conflicting information out there. I've literally seen some reports which state that if you only have a single line of service, and you either own your device or are off contract, AT&T will automatically move you to this Mobile Share Value Plan, and you save $15/month. However, I've seen other reports that mention this plan is only really beneficial for multiple lines of service. And, the AT&T rep I spoke to, also backed up the latter. She stated it would cost more for a person with a single line, in the long run, so she doesn't recommend that plan to people like me. So, I don't know what to believe. Details seem really sketchy and all over the place.
didn't save me any money because i have too many lines to benefit. AT&T already discounts each line as you add more and more. switching to this actually increased the cost for some of my lines from $30 to $40 so it offset the savings of switching to the $15/line plan. YMMV
I still don't know why anyone in their right mind would sign up for the next promotion.

In case your one of those people who like to keep current tech. With this plan you can get the newest phone each year and not have to be on a two year contract or pay a large amount up front for the phone.

You "own" your device. You are still under the terms of the contract you signed when you purchased the original phone. The phone you got as a replacement "junk out" does qualify as a phone purchased as full price. The $15 off per month only applies to AT&T Mobile Share Value Plans, it sounds like you are on the old Minute plans. You are getting a better deal with the promo that AT&T is giving you now, switching plans would could potentially cost you more.
I hope this is helpful.
Also check out this website:

It breaks down the different plans AT&T offers and thankfully it's closer to plain english.

No, he is still under a contract for the previous device. Once the 2 years from the device he purchased originally from Best Buy is over then he would qualify for the $15 off with the new mobile share value plans. As of right now he is still "paying" for the original device as device costs are built into the old AT&T plans.
I hope this clears that up a bit, if not let me know.

Its really a great deal. Nothing down and your plan drops 15 bucks a month to 25 per line and whatever the days is. We have have 10 gigs where we used to pay 120 for it 10 GB has gone down to 100. Each line that is on the next plan goes down to 25 a month from 40 a month.
I thank T-Mobile for keeping he pressure on them
