So I got a Milestone X from Cellcom about 2 weeks ago and rooted it the other night. I have heard that the Milestone X is practically the same as the Droid X. I have superuser and all that stuff so the root did go through and I used rooting instructions for a Droid X. When I used Droid X Bootstrap though and went into clockworkmod recovery and tried to update it, it said the update.zip file was missing. (E: Can't open /sdcard/update.zip (No such file or directory). Installation aborted.)
My question is, if I get a Droid X update.zip would it work the same? I'm kind of worried about bricking my phone since its less than a month old but if it does get bricked, will the Droid X unbricking stuff work the same?
Sorry if this is a stupid question
Thanks for the help though!!!

Are you on GB? If so you have to use droid2 bootstrapper not droidx bootstrap..... just throwing that out there...
SGT+CM7=AWESOMENESS!!!
It's running 2.2.2 so I guess its froyo right?

What exactly were you trying to flash in cwm? You do not have to rename your zips to "update.zip" you can install zip from sdcard if you cracked the recovery with DX bootstrap app...
SGT+CM7=AWESOMENESS!!!
Well originally I was trying to install just the update file which I got installed in the last couple minutes but now I'm trying to install Cyanogen 6. I haven't tried any other mods besides that so I'm not sure if its just not compatible or what..
Pretty much I'm brand new to Android modding so I know pretty much nothing and haven't read up on it because I'm not sure if its the same as a Droid X.
**** it. Never mind. I had to factory restore my phone because apparently the "update" I did reverted it to 2.2.1 and I couldn't get service and my SD card wasn't being recognized so I couldn't do a restore... I try again later when I know more about my phone..

What method did you use to root seeing as its cellcom because my friend has one with cellcom but z4 root didn't seem to work
I used superoneclick root on the pc to root my Milestone X on cellcom. I have yet to find a way to flash cm7 and not lose my data settings on cellcom. I have not tried using the Droid2 bootstraper method... Considering trying it... I want CM7! lol

Ok so as my previous post stated I just got my droid x and rooted it. I am in the process of installing a rom but have failed at this point.
For starters I have the droid x bootstrap installed and "running". Buy "running" I mean I can get to the clockwork recovery but only buy the bootstrap button or battery pull for 1min then boot. Booting while holding the home button stops at the exclamation android guy. I cant get past it no matter how hard I push the search button . So thats one of my problems but not a big one.
When I went to install liberty 1.5 I did a data factory reset and catch wipe then installed the rom. It got stuck on the liberty logo. So I tried again this time following the guide on these forms on how to install a rom correctly. Same thing. I tried three more times following three different guides and still was stuck at the liberty logo. So I gave up and followed the install guide on these forms again, but just restored from my backup. I am good and running again but I still have the liberty logo, which from what I read is normal.
When I got home from work I started digging into why it didn't work and found several things that may cause it. Now this is where I get lost. I have read the sometimes it just fails and you need to try again. But I also read the doing a SBF will also fix this. So I dug into what a SBF is and how to do it since this seams to be the #1 fix for everything. WHAT, UHH, MMMMM, K. So I read you will need to flash 2 files to SBF successfully. I have no problems with the RSD lite as it is only one file and you cant screw that up. But then I comes to choosing the right SBF file for your phone I get lost. All the versions listed are WAY below what I have. I am currently on 4.5.588. So I jumped over to androidforms to see if theirs anything their. They list x.x.596 as the most recent OTA but when I go to check for updates it says there are none.
SO, my questions are:
Is the reason I cant flash the liberty rom because I am running 4.5.588?
What do I flash if I need to SBF?
What am I missing about this OTA update? Is it being rolled out now or is my rom the most recent OTA?
Is their anything else I need to know that might help me in the future? Like I said I am new to this area of the forms and have not clew whats being released, changed, rooted, or what ever else.
I came from a rooted eris so Im not root dumb. But their is a big difference between the eris and the X.
ANY HELP WOULD BE AWESOME THANKS!!!!!!!!

The new 2.3.3 OTA is stable and very nice looking on my DX, OTA not rootable yet but give it time.
Biggest life saver about the DX is the the part of the phone that ppl mess up and turn their phones to bricks is extremely safe on the X, not bulletproof but all the info in these forums I believe can bring them back regardless of what happens. I was very overwhelmed at first with my X but very comfortable now that ive successfully managed the sbf.
Yeah that's one of the things I really noticed. If you brick your phone it seams its not the end. So im still a little confused with your explanation on SBFing. You say that 2.3.3 is the latest OTA but its not rootable. So am I looking at the wrong number when I say my version is 4.5.588.

Reading the noobs guide to droid x allowed me to figure out that I have the 30.04 bootloader and I will need to flash the 2.3.34 file. But I would still like to know why my version is so much higher then 2.3.34.
By far, this is the easiest way to sbf back to stock froyo

Was able to flash the liberty gingerbread rom tonight! I am kind of wondering if the version of ota/bootloader I have is the reason liberty 1.5 wouldn't work for me.

your looking at the version of the software build, complete jargon here but say your on android 2.2.1 version blah blah blah, what i was referring to was although you may have a higher version of 2.2.1 than what you are reading, a lower version of a higher android software such as 2.3.3 is better than a higher version of 2.2.1 same page?
Hi All,
This question is for my wife's Droid X rooted with Z4 with the Droid X Bootstrap. It is my wife's phone & the only reason I rooted it for her was so that she can use the Wireless Tether with her iPad 2. I have the Thunderbolt & the Xoom.
Anyways, so with that said, I have NOT been keeping up with the Droid X development. All I know is that I had used the one click z4 along with the Droid X Bootstrap. Now with the Gingerbread OTA popping up & wanting her to update, all I've been telling her to do is to deny the update. How do I update her from the Stock Froyo to Stock Gingerbread, while keeping root?
Any advice will be much appreciated. Thanks!
It's been said in several other threads, but basically the only way to get root in GB is to start with a rooted Froyo Droid X in stock condition (all bloatware intact and not frozen with Titanium Backup). Then install Clockworkmod's D2 Recovery Bootstrap (that's right, D2, not DX) and then apply the 2 update files mentioned in method 2 of P3Droid's update (search this forum for it). I also found that it's really helpful to do a Clear Data while in Recovery just prior to upgrading. This eliminates some lockups and other strange black screen wonkiness after the upgrade.
If you mess up, just SBF back to the Froyo OTA (again, search this forum), reroot with z4root and try again.

Putting CLockwork Mod on Droid X from adb
Hello,
I apologize if this is question has been answered, as I am sure it has, but I am still missing a small piece.
Although still a n00b, As a bit of background, I have been much more successful rooting and installing ROMS on my Nexus S 4g. This Droid X adventure is for a friend, and it seems like a whole new world.
I did read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=940986
and while it was great, I'm still missing a piece.
I have the Droid X, rooted, and the issue is I mucked up a ROM(its sticks on the red M) and wanted to go back through CWM recovery. I can get to CWM, but no matter what button combos tried, I can't get it to take an 'enter' , not from the power button or from the camera button.
Here's what is strange, when I boot into recovery on CLockworkmod, although I had flashed up to version 5, it shows in vertion 2.x and none of my keys allow me to select recovery options (no keys work).
I am tring not to have to SBF an image back and start over, as I have a good CWM backup on the SD card, if I can just get to it.
I'm thinking if I can get to CWM 5.0.2.0 I will be set, and I want to put 5.0.2.0 in from USB mode and ADB.
Question, from the CWM web site the recovery file is a '.zip', not an .img, and there is no .img in the zip.
What ADB command do I do to load this into my droid x, or am I waaay off base already?
recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-droidx.zip is the file I d/l
p.s. Is Koush's Droid X bootstrap program perhaps the missing part of this puzzle?

One thing that might be causing it... Is your using Droid x bootstrap with USB debugging enabled... Try using Droid 2 bootstrap instead

The Droid X is stuck in USB Mode (but , yes the application did have USB debugging when it was last alive).
So, I guess, like this:?
adb push bootstrap-1.0.0.5-droid2.apk /system/app/
I know a noob making a new thread is bad, but I feel like I need very specific advise here.
I've been running Cyanogenmod for years, it was unstable, no progress was being made, I could not use many of the phones functions and once 2.3 officially hit the Milestone X on Ntelos I decided, "Hey, I think I'll take the official rom and just root it".
So I SBF's back to an official SBF and for about a month I did everything I could to get an OTA update to roll out, it never came. I got antsy and searched the web for a 2.3 SBF for Ntelos and found one with the filename
1FF-p3a_shadow_cdma_shadow-user-2.3.5-4.5.1_57_MX2-34-111019-release-keys-signed-ntelos-US.sbf.zip
Which I found on MotoSBF
So it worked, I managed to root it and it's been horribly unstable, so about a month ago I decided that I'd take Cyanogenmod with all of it's faults over this. In reading over the threads here I found my DX Bootstrap would no longer work so I got DX2 BS, and installed Clockwork Mod Droid X 2nd init. Previously I had attempted DX BS which when flashing Cyanogenmod I'd get a boot error, I think I have made progress with the DX2 bootstrap as I no longer get a boot error I just get stuck with the M logo forever.
So would I be correct maybe to assume that it's Cyanogenmod that is now my issue? I want a custom rom that is at least gingerbread and pretty clean/fast, I don't know which ones work on an Ntelos Milestone X except MIUI (and I have to be honest, I HATE MIUI, the cluttered desktop feel of the iOS is one of the things I hate most about iOS in the first place).
I just need two bits of advice here, is the ROM I'm flashing most likely the issue, and if so, what ROM would you suggest for my particular phone.
And let me also check if my steps are correct.
I install DX2 Bootstrap Recovery
I install Rom Manager and my Premium, flash clockwork recovery DX 2nd Init.
I boot into DX2 Bootstrap Recovery, factory reset, install ROM from SD Card.
That sound like proper procedure being I'm on the latest OTA rooted?
*edit I should add that I have attempted to go back to previous versions, but that does not work out sadly*

your missing a few steps I believe that maybe is causing your instability issues there is a newer version of clockwork mod that is more suited for your phone download rom manager and flash for the droid x its 5.0.2.0 click reboot into recovery after flashing new recovery
1 wipe/data factory reset
2 wipe cache partition
3under advanced wipe dalvik
4under mounts and storage wipe/format system (for some roms read op instructions for flashing)
be very careful with 4 if you reboot on accident you will be left without a system on your phone!!!!
5 flash the rom and the gapps recommended for that specific rom
6 reboot system
all these apply to flashing in one form or another for a clean install omit #4 if you are fearful most roms these days format the system before installing anyway pooka`s cm7 charge while off seems to be very stable for me try at your own risk like any rom yacks cm7 is good to plus it allows updates through goo app in market but I noticed fc`s with adw launcher when switching to landscape mode but overall not bad
Gave it a go step by step, end result is still just a locked Motorola logo
If everything you have tried has failed it definitely to be the ROM. As a side note i think a root can be unstable because the os linux is very unstable. My pre update root to gingerbread was unstable. I even had linux on my PC and it was just as unstable.

In another thread I found someone mentioned trying to install CM with the bootloader updated, and they posted a ROM that was pooka-something..
worked like a charm..
Any help I will take... I'm having the worst luck with my aquired droid x stock with .621 system update... I know its a terible idea for a first time rooter.. I did manage to get root, and i have verified it with root checker app. current settings are as listed:
2.3.5 android version
2.6.32.9geadffa3 kernal
4.5.604 system version (after the .621 linux root)
As far as i can tell everything is fine with the root process i did, if not maybe someone could tell me im wrong by my current system versions??
I did use the milestone sbf (i assume) this is the tutorial i used youtube.co m/watch?v=UtD4lQW8Rmg
I can't get rom manager to reboot into recovery, this is also the only app i have downloaded after the root.
I cant get any rom to manually install from sd card either. I know i am doing something wrong, just dont know what. There are tons of threads on this .621 problem and i cant quite skim them all down to my particular problem. Literally all i have achieved is rooting and i am starting to wonder if that is even right.
I would love any help possible especialy as far as usuable roms with this root and how to install them with this kernal...
Thanks in advance for any advice!
don't use rom manager, most rom you can download though it, will not work
I would just flash back to 621 with
ezSBF 621 and root .iso
then there are several compatible roms links in my list

Ok i am reflashing it now using your method.. so what bout making a restore before the rom, i couldnt get that to work either with rom manager and CWM.. dont use either an just manually load the rom from sd card? i know these questions are stupid to you, i am new and learning, sorry and ty so much for your time.
you need a bootstrap first, to get cwm working, I just use Droid 3 Bootstrap
links and directions
[HOW TO] Install/Use Droid 2/X/3 Bootstrap
will i need the bootstrap no mater what? reason i ask is the girly got the card with her, i aint got a way to buy it atm
you need bootstrap to use cwm, you need cwm to make nandroid backups and flash roms
just use the modified DX bootstrap, in my link
man, i know i gotta be getting on your nerves. i still dont see a link to the modified bootstrap. i only see instructions and a video link
under install, there is 3 options
droid 3
modified dx
droid 2
link will take you here
