So, I think I messed something up. I replaced my wpa_supplicant file with a hacked one in order to recognize and connect to Adhoc wireless signals such as the on from my E4GT phone. It seemed to have worked, but I realized that there was an issue with the tablet consistently scanning even after it connected. I decided to go back to my previous wpa_supplicant which I had backed up. I kept getting an Error when attempting to connect to my home's wireless network. So I figured a Full re-installation of Overcome 1.1.0 would do the trick. Voila! It's working again!
However, I realized that my network doesn't sleep when the screen is turned off. I set it up under the Advanced Wireless Settings and still won't do it. I know it takes a while for the WiFi to actually turn off, but I have waited hours and it is still not doing it. I am running the same apps I was running before all this mess, so I doubt it is a specific app.
PLEASE HELP!

My is stuck at scanning and never finishes. I've tried both the Vanilla and Sense Sky Raider ROMS, both have had the same problem. I tried to search the forum and found something similar but it was with Sky Raider 1.9. Anyone heard of this or seen this happening?
I have the 2.x radio installed, ran the Goodies from Koush.
Thank you,
Jesse
I have skyraider 2.2 and I don't have this problem. did you wipe data and clear cache before installing the ROM? Also, even if it is stuck on scanning, does it display any networks as being available?
It has my home network remembered and it will connect with that. I'm at work now and there is a wifi connection here. When i turn on wifi (widget or settings) it goes to scanning and never list any connections. I cleared cache and did a full wipe before installing. I'm gonna format back to stock and reload the whole thing again. I'll let you know.
I would strongly recommend trying elsewhere first before you go thru the hassle of wiping and reinstalling. some companies will not have their SSID broadcasted... there could be some issue with your employer's wifi network..
I would suggest you at least try it some where else like a starbucks or something before you conclude there is a problem with the rom.
Starbucks down the street, i'll try it. Thank you!
Question: On your incredible, when your wifi is turned on, whats the sequence it goes through, mine says "turning on..." then "Scanning..." it never gets passed scanning.

Usually, its turning on, scannning, obtaining ip address, and connected

When wifi is turned on (or toggled on and off).. I think by default the wifi is in scanning mode. .. which is why when you are get back to your house, it connects automatically. If there are no wifi networks available.. it may seem as being "stuck" in scanning.. but that I believe is a normal status when wifi is turned on.
I don't think it'll do a "scanning".. and then report back saying "no networks found"
People can confirm what I am saying here.
Well, this is gonna sound ridiculous.
So at work I was trying to connect to my buddies iPhone (jailbroken, he has wireless tethering) but the iPhone wireless tethering is Ad Hoc. I did a google search and noticed that android doesn't detect adhoc connections (?). I went to lunch and there was a hotel nearby. Turned on wifi and it detected the hotel. I guess I was just impatient.
Sorry about the trouble.
Thank you guys again.
Jesse
Edit: Before posting the original problem I didn't know the iPhone tether was Ad-Hoc. I thought it was a normal "infrastructure" connection. It wasn't until I used "Wifi Buddy" (from the market) that I realized I couldn't connect to Ad-Hoc connections.
well, I am glad you went about testing it further before wiping your phone
I have a problem with my Nook Color's Wifi.
I received my refurbished Nook on Monday, and installed cm7 that night. I've got it overclocked at 1.2ghz and running smoothly for the last 3 days without any hangups or any other signs of problems.
The wifi was working great until this morning. Now, when I turn my WiFi on, it hangs on the Connecting... notice under Wi-Fi, and it eventually goes to Disconnected, and none of the nearby networks show up. The message then continually cycles between Connecting and Disconnected.
I was wondering if this was a fixable problem? Or if this is a damaged hardware issue.
I've taken a (bad) cell phone picture of the WiFi screen where it shows both the Connecting... message and Disconnected one. The top network "Commodore" should be active, and both my laptop and phone are connecting to it just fine right now. I've attempted rebooting and turning the device off for 15 minutes.
I'm really hoping I don't have to return and exchange, because I really like the Nook Color, but without WiFi I just simply can't use it.
1. activate wifi
2. go to wifi scanning
3. remove one secured SSID
4. add a secured SSID: generally your own one.
It disable airplane mode and everything is back online.

This fixed mine too... weird
Anyone know why this does this? how can it permanently be fixed? CM7.2 ?
I tried searching and I've not found this issue addressed, but I may just be doing it wrong. But, here it goes anyways...
This house has 3 T-Mobile G2s, all with the same OTA. Only mine is rooted. However, none of them will stay connected to wifi. The wifi icon is showing up and it says that I am connected to the access point, but in status it says that mobile network status is disconnected. I can't do anything data related after it times out. If I disable and re-enable wifi it stays connected for a bit before it goes dead again. The handset doesn't go into sleep/screen doesn't turn off. Before I updated I did a Factory Data Reset, then re-entered all my information then let it update. Is there anything I can do, or try?

Being that all 3 phones cannot stay connected I'd be inclined to say look at your router... I'm assuming you've done all the obvious things like reboots, battery pulls, "forgetting" your network and then re adding it? Are other devices in the home able to maintain a wifi connection... your computer, for example? You've tried resetting your router?
If the screen isn't timing out, have you checked your Display settings? What makes you think the screen timeout is related to the wifi problem?
Well in the past on my myTouch 3g... wifi at times would get wonky after the screen timed out/it went to sleep. So was just adding that information here. Yeah, there are at least 8-9 other wifi devices here that can connect to the router just fine and send/receive data. I've tried "forgetting" the access point and then re-adding it, resetting the router, battery pull... and the same thing happens. And the router doesn't have MAC address filtering either. Can't ping google.com or 72.14.204.105 from the phone, but my pc can just fine. If I disable wifi it works as it should. Its just I only have realllly slow EDGE service in the house.

Hmm... by default wifi should turn off when the screen times out. Unless you've changed the wifi sleep policy. I had mysterious wifi trouble before on a different device (endless "obtaining ip address" loops) and the only thing that worked for me was restoring an older nandroid. Obviously, you're no longer rooted and that's not an option... but it's super unusual that 3 G2 phones are experiencing the same problem. And they're all running the Gingerbread update, so maybe that's the common denominator. I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful. I'd definitely pay T-Mobile a visit.
I've not messed with the wifi policy, but my last phone would just drop wifi completely and I had to forget/re-enter everything to get it back. If it was the update then I would think the problem would be more widespread. Going to try fiddling with the router some more since that would most likely be where the issue lies. All else fails will just rollback to an earlier nandroid, like you had to do, and seeing if I can't get at least mine consistent. Thanks for your help and letting me bounce ideas off of.
Ok over the last couple months my Wifi will randomly connect on its own. I have checked about every setting I can find and checked any new apps installed and cannot find what it turning it on. I have searched through about a dozen threads about this but have not found an answer. I will turn it off and not even 2 seconds later it will turn it on again. Im tired of this. Esspecially at work since the proxy filter blocks a lot of websites/content so i have to keep it on 3g connection.
Any insight or hidden settings to make it only turn on when I manually connect (yeah i know....)
I am running on the R2D2 2.3.3 version (2nd to last firmware update)
FXR
I fixed that on my CM7 D2 by using FXR WiFi Repair. Don't forget to reboot.
I'm pretty sure that's what fixed it, but at the same time I used Startup Manager to turn off a bunch of stuff that may have somehow made a request for WiFi. iHeart Radio and stuff like that.
It will delete all your hotspots...

I have noticed this only since the latest update to the Note 3. Before when I left range of my home wifi the phone would go to LTE and upon returning home, automatically reconnect to my home wifi. Now it goes to 4g when I leave, but does not reconnect when I return home. Last night for example, I had been home for a couple of hours and wifi was still turned off and the phone was using 4g. When I manually turned on wifi, it connected immediately. I have played around with settings but can not seem to get it to reconnect automatically as it used to. Below are my advanced wifi settings. Thanks!
Notify: Off
Passpoint: Off
Sort by: Alpha
Keep on during sleep: Always
Always allow scanning: Unchecked
Auto network switch: Checked
I would swap the last 2 checks you have listed. The first check, even though it will scan intermittently, will not affect battery life enough to worry that much about. This also assists in location discovery. The second check will cause your phone to disconnect from your current wifi and force you to manually reconnect if there is ever an unstable connection with your WiFi that the phone detects.
Just my suggestion.
♢NoteIII♢
I did change those but may not have had that combo. The last one, auto network switch, I may have just toggled that off, then back on to try and get it to stick. Intuitively, to me at least, that seems to be exactly what was happening before and what I want now. It was automatically switching from wifi to 4g when I left, and automatically switching back on when I returned to my home network. It seems that turning that off would be the opposite of what I had before, but I will try. My home wifi network seems very stable. Five phones and six computers and none of us ever have trouble with it that we notice.
Thanks! I'll try those options and test it out.
Well I tried that for several days now and it did not work. Tonight, for example, I had been home for 3 hours and then noticed the phone was still using 4g. I switched on the wifi and it immediately connected. I think it is turning off when I am away for wifi for an extended period. I do not remember for sure, but I think before, wifi did not actually turn off. I think it just went out of range and then started using it again when I returned home. I don't really recall the specifics except that before I never had to do anything to get it to start using our home wifi network. lt would just automatically reconnect when I got home. Now unless I remember to turn wifi on manually, I could be home all weekend and still be on 4g.
Any other suggestions anyone might have would be appreciated. Thanks.
