Hi,
I have noticed that some (ex: 4.017.03_EMEA_CUS7) of the A501 stock updates contains a 3G folder with some firmware updates (I suppose for the 3G chipset).
Is it safe to apply these firmware updates to the 3G chipset regardless of the region initially intended for ?
Do you think they are mostly general purpose (fixes/improvements) updates or can contain region/carrier specific settings, thus possibly disrupting the 3G depending of local telco carriers/norms ?
What I'm worried is applying a firmware update without any possibility to flash it to a previous version.
Thanks.

Firstly I would like to thank all the developers with their fabulous Rom making our SGSII even better.
I have been on Litening Rom ever since I got the phone 10 weeks back. I rooted the phone the very next day I got the phone and enjoyed all the new leaked updates, tried various rom and settled with Litening.
This may be helpful to people suffering with some network issues or to 1st timers after rooting their device.
One thing I noticed with leaked firmware meant for europe, the network of mobile service was weak, at home and work place, it would show network not more than 1-2 bars and sometimes none. I assumed that GSII gives out a weak signal. And than I tried flashing CSC file meant for India and latest file released through Kies was KF3, downloaded the file from Intratech's thread and flashed it through Odin. Immediately after rebooting the phone I have observed much better network signal ( almost full 4 bars ), slight improvement with 3G too.
Now after flashing every new updates on the Rom I flash the CSC KF3 file and GSII works much better.
Here are the links for CSC file, thanks to Intratech.

or you could download the file straight from below link

Cheers!
MODS: please move the thread to General thread section.
But csc only contains some carrier info...i think flashing modem does matter? And yes the signal is worse when we use european firmwares
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
YES the what CSC only does is it contains the pre bundled apps for the specific region and contry and has the automatic internet and mms settings for the specific contry..it doesnt help in boosting of network or signal..the network and signal totally depeds on modem used and not CSC..
Is this not in the wrong section anyway.
Its not rom development .

I don't think it will help anyways. Firstly, it doesn't affect the signal reception as CSC contains only region specific files which might include APN settings for operators, region specific apps, language files, etc.
Secondly, SGS2 gets locked or something to the CSC it is first flashed to, and it doesn't change afterwards no matter what CSC you apply ( through recovery or ODIN ), you'll get a error that it can't access /system/CSC/..
Read more about it here,

Am sure modem file would make a difference but in my case after flashing every updae on custom rom have successfully flashed CSC file and it has indeed made the reception better. Not had any issue with reception. I can confirm this as i have observed it using the network at same place without flashin the file and after flashing the file, it surely improved. I have done this for over 2 months now.
And ya never got any errors while flashing the file through Odin. I have requested Mods to transfer this thread in General section in my first post.
I have Wave 1, S8500. I wonder is it safe to flash other country to my phone? Mine is Malaysia, with Bada 1.0.
I want to upgrade to Bada 1.2 using this S8500DXKF1/S8500OLBKD1,Singapore(Singtel) which can get from here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=2&m=GT-S8500&r=2
And flash it offline using this guide: http://www.tsar3000.com/Joomla/inde...s8500-wave-firmware&catid=57:how-to&Itemid=84
I hope it's a correct way.
The files from here: http://www.tsar3000.com/Joomla/inde...15:samsung-flashes&catid=55:samsung&Itemid=82
Seem very confusing. Too many to choose and don't know if it cross country compatible or not.
I'd say yes simply because I'm using non-Philippine firmware on my phone
Firmware's are usually varied by region. I believe this is mainly because of the languages included. For special releases such as those from carriers, it may cause your device to lock on to those carriers. I'm not sure, I've never tried.
Most importantly, since this device is quad-band, you should have no issues with the radio firmware.
If anyone could give me link to XME firmware?

It is fine, I am in Australia and use the UK firmware.
You'll probably find that it's due to the networks in each country. before a firmware can be released, the network has to basically put in their customization and branding/logo's etc but they also need to liaise with samsung and give it the thumbs up before it is available to the public. Some networks will take longer to approve firmware and the way most companies are run, there will be an entirely separate department within the company for each country, hence why a firmware may be approved in T-Mobile USA but not in T-Mobile UK for example.
For non-branded/sim-free variants, they actually have to wait until ALL networks approve the firmware before it's released, hence why the stock UK BTU firmware is always the last to get updated.
If so, where would I find it? Otherwise, can I flash tmobile's security on top of my U firmware? Lost access to company email, might have to flash back to Tmobile firmware..
You can go www.sammobile.com and search up the firmware by phone model.
Hello mate,
Unfortunately there isn't an update yet for G935U. Apparently the only update out as we speak is for AT&T.
Have you seen about it?
Using SM-G935U over T-Mobile
There is now. Check here: https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G935U/
Which firmware are you guys downloading? Looks like theres quite a few options. 2 options for USA and 1 unkown plus verizon, T-mobile ect. Also has anybody tried rooting it with the eng.bootloader?
My latest patch is Dec 1st/APL2, are you up to date?

I've used the USA version of the "U" firmware (on my G935T, from T-Mobile). I've not tried the T-Mobile version; so I am unsure of the differences. The reason I used the generic USA version was because I assumed it would be more likely to not include all of T-Mobile's bloatware. When flashing using Odin, use the latest "U" version (currently APL4) of firmware for BL and AP and use the latest T-Mobile firmware files (currently ver APK1) for CP and CSC fields.
If you search XDA, you will find several threads involving rooting the G935 for T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon using the "U" firmware and eng.bootloader. One such thread can be found here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-s7-edge/how-to/how-to-root-s7-edge-t3410470. The GS7 root is not without problems. Common complaints (versus stock firmware) are: reduced battery life, running hot, lack of some carrier-specific features (i.e. visual voicemail, FM radio, etc). Some of these issues can be (nearly) resolved with various kernel tuning and patches but, in my opinion, the stability hassle is not worth the minimal gains from rooting at this time. However, if you do choose to root, using the "U" firmware is recommended by most people in order to improve stability and battery life (a great improvement over rooting carrier-specific firmware but not quite as stable as unrooted).
Can the U firmware be used for flash an S7E running the November update (4APK1)? Are there any benefits of running U firmware vs TMO specific firmware?
Hello Folks,
As the thread title states, I'm looking for a way to update to the current firmware from stock (G892AUCU1AQG4) - I bought the device a few days after it came out and promptly unlocked it and took it to Canada - OTA Updates are obviously disabled as I'm not on AT&T and there's no indication of a manual update method via USB on AT&T's support pages. Any chance someone has pulled ODIN files for all of the updates (As they seem to be building off of one another, indicating it's basically a nesting doll scenario where I assume I'll need to run update after update in sequence)? Or is there another way to go about this that doesn't involve going stateside and buying a sim and plan?
Did some searching and found a few threads with links or references to the stock files, but didn't see any means to update from stock to current (Or even just the first 8.0 variant)
Cheers and thanks in advance if anyone can save my Canadian bacon.
Edit for background information: I've tried forcing an update via SmartSwitch (RIP Kies) but it says the device is up to date, making me think it's also just checking for an OTA update, but given there's no update available on my wireless network it just dead ends.
