Firstly I would like to thank all the developers with their fabulous Rom making our SGSII even better.
I have been on Litening Rom ever since I got the phone 10 weeks back. I rooted the phone the very next day I got the phone and enjoyed all the new leaked updates, tried various rom and settled with Litening.
This may be helpful to people suffering with some network issues or to 1st timers after rooting their device.
One thing I noticed with leaked firmware meant for europe, the network of mobile service was weak, at home and work place, it would show network not more than 1-2 bars and sometimes none. I assumed that GSII gives out a weak signal. And than I tried flashing CSC file meant for India and latest file released through Kies was KF3, downloaded the file from Intratech's thread and flashed it through Odin. Immediately after rebooting the phone I have observed much better network signal ( almost full 4 bars ), slight improvement with 3G too.
Now after flashing every new updates on the Rom I flash the CSC KF3 file and GSII works much better.
Here are the links for CSC file, thanks to Intratech.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
or you could download the file straight from below link
http://www.multiupload.com/8PSY68J8O3
Cheers!
MODS: please move the thread to General thread section.
But csc only contains some carrier info...i think flashing modem does matter? And yes the signal is worse when we use european firmwares
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
YES the what CSC only does is it contains the pre bundled apps for the specific region and contry and has the automatic internet and mms settings for the specific contry..it doesnt help in boosting of network or signal..the network and signal totally depeds on modem used and not CSC..
Is this not in the wrong section anyway.
Its not rom development .

I don't think it will help anyways. Firstly, it doesn't affect the signal reception as CSC contains only region specific files which might include APN settings for operators, region specific apps, language files, etc.
Secondly, SGS2 gets locked or something to the CSC it is first flashed to, and it doesn't change afterwards no matter what CSC you apply ( through recovery or ODIN ), you'll get a error that it can't access /system/CSC/..
Read more about it here,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17255044#post17255044
Am sure modem file would make a difference but in my case after flashing every updae on custom rom have successfully flashed CSC file and it has indeed made the reception better. Not had any issue with reception. I can confirm this as i have observed it using the network at same place without flashin the file and after flashing the file, it surely improved. I have done this for over 2 months now.
And ya never got any errors while flashing the file through Odin. I have requested Mods to transfer this thread in General section in my first post.

I am in Singapore on Singtel network.
I flashed about 10 days ago the I9505XXUBMEA rom from Sammobile.
Since I flashed I have had very very poor signal (voice : calls not going through or calls dropped and data : close to no data at all) .
I have a limited experience with flashing roms.
I have checked that it wasn't something related to my network or card by switching the sim back to my GS3. No issue there...
I tried to flash DX... modems with no change...
Can someone help me ?

I would suggest Reset the device completly which is suggestable after an update
And see mostly some bad system file would be causing this Reset from device will clear finger crossed
Note: Data will be lost incase u do reset back important things first
Ok, few more solutions for you.
1) Try a CSC change, not sure if that has any effect on your network. Find one that's for Singapore or SEA region.
2) Try flashing a rom from Dejembey's, haven't had any network issues there. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250824
I'm on MF8. Maybe you should give that a try.
Ohh and please share your wiping procedure you tried earlier.
Cheers.
I flashed the new rom without problems.
I am still mainly stuck on G for the data...
It might not be the rom or modem...
Any ideas of what could be the cause?

I've seen people saying they have a baseband for GSM and another for LTE. Where can I see this? All I see in "About phone" is "Baseband". It doesnt say specific for GSM or LTE.
And How can I get different basebands for each radio? In baseband collection thread all of them are just 1 zip file, so it updates both, right?

anyone?
I see .zip packages that are supposed to upgrade GSM modem to one specific version and LTE to other version at the same time. Where can I check that?

Thank you!
I was thinking that as well, but in Omega ROM's thread there is a zip file that flashes a modem for GSM and another for LTE
**If you are having the old bootloader XXUB flash GSM_Modem_XXUEMJ5_and_LTE_Modem_XXUBMH1.tar file with odin by selecting phone.
**If you are having the new bootloader XXUD flash GSM_Modem_XXUEMJ5_and_LTE_Modem_XXUEMJ5.tar file with odin by selecting phone.
That's why I'm asking.
Any idea?
You shouldn't need to touch/flash another LTE modem unless you have problems, the one already on the device should work just fine. I don't know specifically what might be in Omega rom to require those instructions as I've never used it, but I'm running XXUEMJ5 GSM modem with the 'old' bootloader on Foxhound 3.1, and everything is working as it it should. I've never touched the LTE modem/the one that was on the device when I bought it is still on it & LTE works fine in areas where my carrier has LTE coverage.
If you're about to flash Omega rom, I'd say follow the instructions (or ask in the thread), if you're not, I (your mileage might vary though, obviously) wouldn't touch the LTE modem at all unless you have problems with LTE connectivity, WiFi or sound.
Edit - Going back through some posts/threads I have bookmarked from months ago, people who messed around with non-HLOS.bin files seemed to have a funny habit of borking their WiFi & other stuff. As I said above, I wouldn't be flashing one separately unless you had a good reason to (I.E something like the Omega thing where it's a specific instruction as part of flashing the rom), or flashing a rom/something else borks your WiFi/LTE/sound or whatever as I said above, the one already on your phone should do the job.

thank you vey much, but....
too late hahaha I've read your post right after flashing that zip. Everything seems fine but can't test LTE yet because my plan doesnt support it. I'll try to upgrade to LTE this week and I'll search for a method to revert LTE baseband if I need it in the future.
Thanks again sir.
Hello,
I recently upgraded from Xperia Arc S to Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505.
I bought my device from Hong Kong, with HK firmware. After I opened the package I put my SIM inside,
the reception was not very good. I was instructed by the company to use GSM only since there is no
LTE network in Israel as of today.
I flashed a couple of ROMs since and today I am on MIUI v5 which is my favorite, the reception remains
the same in all ROMs, quite bad compared to my old Xperia Arc S.
I was wondering about basebands and modems, I have been watching those two names floating around
the forums quite a bit and I never got around to playing with those.
So my questions are as follows:
1. Is there a different between modem and baseband or are these two just different words that refers to the same thing?
2. Does changing a baseband/modem can help get better reception?
3. If the answer to 2 is yes, which one should I get?
Thanks,
Oded
Yes modem/baseband are the same thing. Go to SamMobile website Google it, then go to the firmware section, choose the S4 find your carrier and see the latest rom for your carrier in the file name will be some letters and numbers like XXNA5 etc. This will give you a base to start with. Or tell me your operator and I can take a look.

Thanks for the quick reply. How do I find out which firmware I need to download? Israel is not in the list. My carrier is called Orange. http://orange.co.il/
behind the battery it says:
GT-I9505
SSN: -I9505GSMH
RATED
Made by...
Imei...
S/N...
EDIT:
You didn't answer if the incorrect baseband can cause bad reception... it sounds to me like it does but I just want to make sure.
I also noticed that when I reboot my device it goes back to WCDMA only automatically so everytime I reboot/power off I need to reset it to GSM only using *#*#4636#*#*

1. Same thing .
2. Yes.
3. You can check it from here that Base from your country/Provider . And you can download it from here
The problem is that Israel is not on that list, I think because we don't have LTE network and my device is LTE.
My carrier is using GSM network only.
Israel don't sell the I9505 officially, they have the I9500 available from your carriers.
Looking at the I9500 with Orange the latest I9500 modem is: I9500JKUEMJ9
Obviously do not flash the I9500 modem but you can try XXUEMJ9 from the I9505 instead.
From here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192025
Download the modem and flash via Odin. You can any of the I9505 modems. Just try until you get a good one, and as for LTE it doesn't matter in the network settings you will obviously be choosing 3G option instead.

I see, well, it didn't work, I flashed about 7 different modems and I still get bad reception indoors and good reception outdoors.
I will try to test other SIMs of other carriers on this device to see if reception improves.
Thank you very much for you help!

Really? I ask this question because when flashing stock 4.4.2 I had to flash a specific modem otherwise it wouldn't work. If I flash another modem different from FNA5 won't it cause problems in the ROM?

Depends what bootloader your on, I'm assuming your on the new bootloader so you need to flash both the LTE and GSM modems. I'm on a GE 4.4.2 rom and old bootloader running on an older modem and not got any issues. Try it and see what happens you can always flash another after or go back to a 4.4.2 modem.

OK thanks a bunch. If not too much trouble can you point me to a list of the modems you speak of? And is there anywhere where it's detailed how to flash both modems? When I changed modem in the previous ROM's I only had to flash one.

This thread has all the info you need:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192025
A small tip to whom ever is reading this: If you have reception problems just go to someone with the same phone model and just write down the information in about phone section such as: baseband, core, build etc so you know which one works 100% if your phone is the same model.
Anyways, nikzDHD, I9505XXUEML6_MODEM worked best, I flashed 90% of the modems... took me forever :/
I had purchased an unlocked sm-n900 because I figured it might be what would work best with my carrier ( Straight Talk) here in the US. Ive had it for a little less than a month now and have had constant connection issues. Today I saw a thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2475714 In here it is mentioned that
Choosing right modem can make a huge difference as it affects reception, data speed, stability, battery life etc.

So I figured I should investigate flashing a new modem and maybe thatll help my situation. The thing is while looking at my phones info I found out the CSC country is Argentina. Does this matter at all? Is this leading to the problems with my phone or is this from the ROM i flashed (CriskeloRom Note III V05) Im just fed up with the constant connection problems and the constant having my phone go into emergency only mode. Where do I go from here? Do I need to flash a different modem, or an entirely different rom? I dont even know if I can flash any of those modems /: Heres some more info I have Latest firmware info
PDA: N900UBUCMK1
CSC: N900UUBCMK1

Hi All,
I've got terrible signal where I'm living at the moment so I'd really benefit from getting the wireless calling through the EE firmware.
I've downloaded the firmware file but I'm a bit stuck. The firmware file itself has extracted to five separate files:
AP...
BL..
CP...
CSC...
HOME_CSC...
I'm assuming that I've got to select all of these within Odin, however I'm unsure of the difference between the two CSC files. Both seem very similar in file size.
Does anybody know the difference and which one would be the correct one to flash?
Cheers
What was the format of the file you extracted those from?
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
It was a zip file from sammobile:
Model name Galaxy S7 edge
Country United Kingdom (EE)
Version Android 6.0.1
Changelist 110166628
Build date Fri, 19 Feb 2016 09:57:29 +0000
Product code EVR
PDA G935FXXU1APB9
CSC G935FEVR1APB4
How do you tell what is on the phone mine said it was coming from ee but then it said it was coming from the company I used which was buymobiles.net so I don't know if I have a proper ee one or a sim free I guess so might flash software once you work it out
You've probably got an unbranded one like me. It's usually pretty obvious when booting up whether it's carrier branded or not.
Think I'll wait for now until somebody can confirm the difference. I'd like to know what it is that I'm flashing
Yeah I think I am unbranded I do have the wireless option and it is on my package I called to check might turn it on it says it can take 24 hours to turn it on.
I've got no option for wifi calling in my settings. Boo! ;-(
Mine is settings, applications, phone then wifi calling at the bottom why would I have it and you don't my phone is not from ee weird
I have the option and my handset came from EE but appears to be unbranded.
Perhaps the branding isn't as obvious on the s7 then. I definitely don't have the option in there
My CSC is XEU with the firmware on my phone

OK so for anyone thinking of doing the same, I have gone ahead and flashed the firmware and enabled WiFi Calling.
I selected all files in Odin with the exception of "HOME_CSC" (I used the standard CSC_EVR).
After enabling the option in Settings -> Applications -> Phone, I text WiFi Calling to 150.
As I'm in an area with crap signal I can already see the WiFi calling symbol in the nav bar and have made a few calls with it. All seems well.
Some very subtle changes in the EE firmware but very close to the stock in terms of branding.
@mmotti The EVR firmware on Sam Mobile is shown as G935FXXU1APB9 is that the one you flashed that enabled wifi calling on EE? Thanks.

Flash the CSC file that contains a PIT file in it, The firmware on Sammobile has a CSC file called "CSC_EVR_G935FEVR1APB4_CL7211170_QB8683672_REV00_user_low_ship.tar" and that's the one you need to flash, otherwise Odin just get stuck if you flash the "HOME_CSC_EVR_G935FEVR1APB4_CL7211170_QB8683672_REV00_user_low_ship.tar"
I bought my phone from the Samsung store, and flashed the EE firmware, it will wipe the device(or did for me anyway). but now I have WIFI calling and working perfectly, only issue with using the EE firmware is that firmware/security updates are super slow :crying:

I did it and everything is fine. I got WIFI calling that is working and that was my main priority. Doesn't seem to be any downsides compared to the XEU firmware.
Hey everyone.
Thanks guys this is just what I was looking for, im using an EE sim on pay as you go but I have an unlocked Galaxy S7 Edge that I bought online NOT from EE.
1. So If I install this firmware I should be able to use wifi calling and hd voice?
2. Are there any downsides to flashing this firmware?
3. Will this reset any settings in my phone do I loose any information.
Thanks
