Yes it would be kind... but it seems no one is interrested in.
It would take having the kernel sources, new library files, and camera.apk. Which Sony Ericsson phone already has it?
Would be cool

Our Camera is **** so I doubt even if we had the 3D Sweep it would not look any good anyway.
Strange that it is listed on SE site as a feature, could be a mistake though.

It's all explained in the Sony Ericsson blog
Global roll out of new software
In late September we announced the rollout of Android 2.3.4 in the Nordic Countries. Today, we’re happy to share the news that the upgrade is starting to roll out all over the rest of the world. Since the Nordic release we have made some additional changes which means that this update is actually new also for the Nordic consumers.
The phones that will get the software update are: Xperia™ arc, Xperia™ PLAY, Xperia™ neo, Xperia™ mini, Xperia™ mini pro, Xperia™ pro, Xperia™ ray, Xperia™ active, Xperia™ neo V, Xperia™ arc S and the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman™. The update will be available for all unlocked phones and most operator variants but there will be local deviations. There are also some deviations on feature upgrade depending on phone model. Google Talk video chat will only be available for phones with front facing camera. Xperia™ PLAY will not get 3D panorama sweep but it will get HD video recording and the other goodies below.
The highlights of the update are:
Google Talk with Video Chat for smartphones with front-facing cameras
Updated Facebook inside Xperia™ functionality for enhanced like, share and discover abilities. We have talked about Facebook inside Xperia™ on previous posts.
Xperia™ smartphones introducing world’s first 3D Sweep Panorama functionality powered by Sony.
16x video zoom
The software upgrade will enable consumers to turn their Xperia™ smartphone into a mini-mobile PC by connecting USB peripherals (mouse, keyboard or game controller) to Sony Ericsson LiveDock™ multimedia station. Connect the smartphone to a TV via HDMI to get a big screen experience.
Gesture input – text input by swiping the finger from one letter to the next
WiFi DLNA
Screen capture – allows the user to share a screen grab from anywhere in the phone.
It’s quite a lot to grasp all at once. That’s why we are making next week an Update Marathon, going through one of the features more in depth every day. Stay tuned Meanwhile, you can check out the video from the guys at Developer World.
We’ll try to keep you continuously updated on the kit release. For a complete list of kits released up until now, please check comments below.
I would just like the panorama app to actually work it sucks that my old x10 can do it and that it works on other phones except this thing I hold in my hand kinda pathetic for a brand new phone IMO

Xperia Arc/S, Neo, Active, Mini/Pro with GB 2.3.4 has it. Just the Play not :/ Is Sony trolling us? They told they would maximaly support the Play but no 3D Sweep atrough it has a good camera. (Yea "just 5Mpx" but sometimes a lower res. is better)

This is a old news cutting but what happened to the wireless tv link ?
" Sony Ericsson have also took the opportunity to point out some updates for the X10, X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro. They tell us that all three devices will received the Android 2.1 upgrade "in Q3 2010", although their blog seems to state "Q4". But wait, the big news for X10 owners is that...
"Xperia™ X10’s position will also be further strengthened through the addition of HD video recording as part of the same Q3 upgrade. A further upgrade to the Xperia™ X10 in Q4 will make it possible to connect and display wirelessly content on your television and enhance the Timescape™ and Mediascape applications."

Not sure why SE announces so early. Why not just wait and announce plus release it at the same time?
Thought it would be already upgrade to Xperia neo, but it seems a downgrade instead.

I makes sense as the new firmware is announced with new features on the comming phone models. I am sure everyone would complain if SonyEricsson had not promised to release this for the existing phone models like our Xperia Arc.
I can just imagine how the discussion would be instead, everyone complaining that SE is not delivering the new firmware to the Xperia Arc etc. It is also bad that they promise to deliver the same firmware to our xperia arcs that they include in the new phones
I am very happy to hear they are continuing to deliver new firmwares with extra functionality this frequent to our "old" arcs. Keeping even new models with allmost the same hardware specifications makes it much easier to continue to develop and improve the firmware which will work on all of the phones. Our Arcs might beging to be left behind when alle the new phone models are released with more powerfull hardware.

The camera is a bit smaller but you do get a 3D like screen and hdmi out. To me it sounds like an upgrade and the 5MP might even deliver as good or maybe even better pictures than the current 8MP camera especially if they have improved the optics as well. Lets wait an see until we see the first reviews how the camera performs.

You're totally wrong. As it's been said before, the only difference is the camera. Because of the Japan Earthquake Sony is having difficulties producing the Exmor R-sensors, so the Neo V is just a regular Neo without the Exmor R sensor. It's just a cheaper Neo. There is nothing better abuot the Neo V.
Looking forward to this update, in particular the 3D panorama shot. Glad that SE are continuing to release updates like this.
Now if only they would include Smart Dial........
Doesn't seem like much of an update comparing to what we've got with the latest FW. I'm not really looking forward to seeing this one on my arc, but I'm okay with it. Maybe if they add some more features... I hope they will, it's still a month or two until the release.

Are you serious? I mean, you don't have to go mad about the update, but still. You can't expect a lot of new features every update... We're pretty lucky to see so many things getting added at all really. How many manufacturers add so many features to a device after release?
But okay, everyone their opinion. What would you like to see in the next few updates then?

In the latest software upgrade we did for the 2011 Xperia™ phones, we’ve included WebGL™ support. By doing so, Sony Ericsson is the first mobile phone manufacturer to support WebGL for the Android web browser. WebGL basically makes it possible to extend the capability of the JavaScript programming language to allow it to generate interactive 3D graphics within the web browser. Read more about Sony Ericsson’s WebGL support after the jump, and find out about special considerations to keep in mind when developing 3D web applications targeting touch-enabled devices.
In this article, Anders Isberg from Sony Ericsson’s Technology Reseach department explains more about WebGL and what to think of when you develop 3D web applications for touch-enabled devices. If you scroll down, you will also find three WebGL examples that you can browse to from the Android browser, if you have the latest software on your 2011 Xperia™ phone.

Given how slow they are, not even releasing phones with ICS from stock in my country, and phones are still waiting on their ICS update, you can't take that as "Xperia S won't be getting JB"
Imo no flash support on JB makes it terrible (for my use anyway) because that was always something that android had over ios. And Yeah i watch a lot of football matches off streams which requires flash player.
Im still happy with GB on the Xperia Play everything is fine and working.
I love this phone and it'll take something really special for me to replace the Xperia Play.

To be fair, to me that sounded like it getting JB with the project butter feature missing.
If it doesn't get it though, that's just terrible, even the Sony fanboy in me think's that's complete BS!
You can?
If we didn't get ICS, what would make you think we would get JB?
The only thing left to do is showing sony how you appreciate their update philosophy and stop buying their crap.
The play will have been my last sony phone for sure. I wouldn't risk to buy another Sony phone, just to find out the next android version won't be coming to my phone, because sony can't be bothered to keep their customers happy.
How long have those new Xperias been out, 3 months at best? Already they make you feel stupid for making the choice to get one of these
Haha lol,
Xperia 2011 won't get it official but xperia s will.
That's a promise they maked to google
And don't say xperia 2011 needs to get it, it won't. HTC and Samsung are just the same.

No you cant, the webkit core has it specifically removed. If you sideload flash then you MIGHT get flash support with a fully alternative render engine like Opera Mobile, but for legal reasons they will probably block it too.
I dont really care about embedded flash either, if a site is still using SWF or FLV containters instead of HTML5 standards then they deserve to be left behind. YouTube moved from Flash to HTML5 over a year ago, many sites have since.

I find it to work pretty fine aside of battery life being reduced and camera missing camera2 API. If you think its half bodged version, what should Samsung and HTC owners say about theirs... Memory leak bug still present after numerous tries to patch it, while Sony released it already bug-free...
By all accounts, 5.1 still has the 'mobile radio active' bug that is draining peoples' batteries. I have noticed that bug and am currently testing my second install of 5.0.2 to see how much of a problem it will be with my usage patterns, so I might end up going back to 4.4.4 rather than forward to 5.1
Sony's Lollipop is great. Samsung freaking had to cease the update of Galaxy S5 because it was so bad. Sony's one actually had only one or two bugs which quickly got fixed. There are nearly no issues on the lastest firmware really minus the headphone profiles bug

Sony's lollipop has the same bugs as stock android as far as I can tell. It does have a few nice extras, but also has a few fugly touches and some bloat.
My biggest gripe is the Android "mobile radio active" bug... is no-one else experiencing this with the sony firmware?

No man, Sony Lollipop sucks because the Ram Managment is very, very bad... Maybe you don´t use a lot multitasking, but users that buy this phone and use it for work and need a good amount of apps opened all time with 2GB or 3GB of RAM are very disappointed, we are waiting 5.1.1 too, to see if Sony fixes that, we hope that. With 2GB or 3GB this problem doesn´t have to happen.

I haven't noticed any issues with the D5803_23.1.A.1.28 second release of 5.0.2. Rooted and running very nicely; battery life seems similar to KitKat, possibly very slightly worse (could be an updated app causing that).
