I will have to send my Desire HD back to HTC because of a broken battery-lit. I need full stock because of the warranty. Is this method sufficient or do I have to change radio and S-ON as well?
I wake up everyday looking for news about 2.3 getting released. I am on 2.2.1 so I lost the ability to root. So i hope this comes out soon and if anyone has any info please post.
Officially it should come out in "coming weeks" as this tweet suggests - http://twitter.com/googlenexus/status/16974464310845440.
But there's a way to root your 2.2.1 anyways. Follow this guide:

SuperOneClick works great if you still want root.

Just unlock your bootloader.
I have tried the super one click no luck
Other than unlocking, which is the preferred and safest way to do it. You could just follow the guide that was linked here. I did it for my friend just last week because he was afraid of the official way to root for some reason. It worked perfectly.
Yeah I did it the rageagainstthecage way.

Odd, are you sure you have the latest Super One Click? It worked fine for me 2.2.1 N1 on T-Mobile.

Works fine for me. Did you get stuck at the looping problem after following the steps in the OP?
The way around that, as many of us have discovered, is to turn the phone off then run SuperOneClick and select 'root'. Turn the phone back on once 'waiting for device..' is shown in the program and then just leave it until it finishes.
Ensure USB debugging is enabled before you get started and that your PC has the required drivers installed. (Check Device Manager).
To be fair the Original Post needs updating as the instructions aren't very good without the above being mentioned.

Dumb question but, does that method allow you to install custom roms (e.g. CM7) without unlocking the bootloader, thus keeping the warranty?

Using exploit to root allows you to get rooted device without unlocking the bootloader. However, I cannot tell you 'your warranty is kept' for certain(as long as bootloader is locked and you can revert to stock, I think it's okay).

This does not unlock the boot loader....... and, yes you can flash roms once rooted.
Good luck on that warrenty buisness.

If you do revert to stock there should be no way to tell you ever modified the rom, isn't that right?

Unfortunately you can only relock the bootloader on Nexus S, according to a Google Android developer

Is this "official" though? It's been 23 days since that post.
We'll get it, but I'm just bored of waiting. With so much anticipation, we'll probably be disappointed. Hope not.

His question isn't about relocking the bootloader. But as long as you reflash the stock ROM and recovery, then I don't think there would be a way to tell without further examination. Regardless, HTC isn't too strict with the warranty claims, as many members on this forum have claimed warranty and sent back rooted phones to HTC. You should be fine.

that's 3 weeks. "coming weeks" being a PR equivalent of more than a month, we should be waiting for gb another 2 weeks at least...
It's only 5% of GB, but you can have the keyboard from it. A definite improvement and works perfectly on my N1 with 2.2.1 (no root needed):

First off im not a noob. i have/had a nexus s; captivate, att sgs2 all rooted flashed and the sort. my wifes atrix 4g is a mystery. it could be because i havent spent as much time with it as the other phones but anyway heres the prob: when she got her phone it was running either 2.2 or 2.2.xx cant remember but i rooted it using gingerbreak. then she did the gingerbread update on top of the root. here is the problem. the phone still has the supersuser app and looks like its rooted but its not. how do i remove all of the the components of the root then reroot? theres nothing wrong with the phone it works fine no problems whatsoever. a lil info any advanced users could use: system version 4.5.91.mb860.att.en.us running 2.3.4 kernel 2.6.32.9-00001-g41bc3e0 [email protected]#2 build# 4.5.91
any help will be appreciated. ill try to check this tread as often as i can. we just had a newborn 3 weeks ago and a 2yr old running around as well as working full time. feel free to send a pm with any question r possible solutions. thx

What makes you think its not rooted?
In any case, try "re-rooting" using the info in this thread.
Any app that requires root permissions says its not rooted. ill try that and see what happens. thx

Hi
the last few days my Defy has been nagging me about updating to 45.0.2310.en.GB
is this the one that you cant root?
and is the update worth it?
Thanks
With that rom, there will be no way to root or to downgrade (or to downgrade to a rom that is rootable)

Hi,
It should ask you if you want to install it once it has downloaded. Just say no to that.
Simples.

if your really desperate, you could try smashing the screen in the bottom left, which would mean they wouldnt be able to see the ROOTED, but that would ruin your whole digitiser, meaning your 'touch'screen would just be a 'screen' and smashed one at that :silly: (not recommended:laugh

You need to flash back to stock thru lgflash. When in download mode it will show rooted, run the tool, go back to download and back to stock. And under settings will show unrooted. I have already done it a few times.

Use that guide. I've used it a few times already.
Will vzw charge you full rate? I would assume not, as i can't imagine them looking anywhere else besides under settings and download mode screen.
The first time you are in the download mode it will show rooted. After flashing back to stock, go back to download mode it will show stock.

I hope not, but they'd send it back to the factory for refurbing, they do a more intensive scan, but I doubt they'd do a massive, if this is 100% legit this wouldn't really leave any trace. VS980

So does that mean that your root status in download mode has returned to normal? I just bought my G2 and I'm hesitant to root it because of what appears to be an irreversible consequence.

I think I got lucky, very very lucky. If you're worried about not being able to return it, don't root it until you're sure, then and only after you're happy with it root it.

How about for D802, how can we revert it back to unrooted status? Any ideas? Thanks!
Btw, I'm not yet rooted. I want to be sure first if I can revert the status back to stock.
Verizon warranty doesn't care if it's rooted. I've returned a grip of phones still rooted with no problems
I already returned my G2. I have no clue. Sorry.
