[Q] 3 Android Men on Skateboards Issue - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone. I did a bit of searching and cannot find a solution to my problem. I have been jailbreaking iPhones since they first came out, but this is my first Droid phone. I bought this phone in this condition hoping to fix the issue and use it for myself.
So far I tried pulling the battery and turning on the phone with the power button and the volume down button. I get to the same screen with the three guys on skateboards.
I understand jailbreaking iPhones and rooting android phones is completely different, but i'm confident it won't be that difficult to catch on. So anyone who has any quick tips or a solution to my issue I would very much appreciate the help.

First off a Droid, is from motorola, this phone is an android.
Second, what can you do to your phone, if anything at all.
Three, just try turning the phone on normally.
From my fist to your face, enjoy.

First of all Droid is a Trademarked from VZW and Lucas Arts. The HTC Incredible is know as a "Droid". and the DROID Charge is made by Samsung.
Second of all he told you. He can get into the hBoot, or bootloader.
Three he said said he bought with a condition that he had to fix. So i'm assuming it's pretty much all he/she can do. Quite being a jackwagon.
to the [OP], at the top of your screen you should see a .86.xxxx or a .85.xxxx or a .89.xxxx what are those numbers.
you will also see "s-on" or "s-off" which one do you see?
the reason i ask is because that will tell us what ROM you need to download and try to flash via the hBoot.

I was just trying to figure out exactly what he can do, so I can better understand the problem. Wasn't trying to start any problems with anyone. I just get a little annoyed when people call every Android a Droid, sorry if offended you or him.
From my fist to your face, enjoy.

Thanks neidlinger. So when I got to that screen with the three (An)Droid Men there was no text on the screen. I contacted HTC support and I sent them the phone since it was still under warranty. I did a bunch of searching and I do believe there is a hardware issue with the phone.
Highway. Your response was completely uncalled for. I stated in my post that I am unfamiliar with Android devices since I have primarily dealt with iOS devices. So first of all don't act like your suddenly entitled to insult and correct everyone who posts something a bit inaccurate, especially when they acknowledge their lack of experience in their post.

In my defense the first thing I said, it's something I always say,I was trying to give you some info. Not make you sound or look stupid. As for the other two, like I told him,I was trying to see what exactly you can do with your phone, so I can understand it an view it on my phone, to see how I would fix the problem. sorry if my military background is a problem with y'all, maybe for now on,I won't bother to help anymore.

I know this is black and white, and it's really hard to "read" how someone typed something. Rather it be in a light joking manner or full of sarcasm. We thank you for the help. It' means alot to everyone that visits these forums. But one can say "you have a face that will stop a clock" or "when i look at you time stands still". It's in essence the same exact phrase with the same exact meaning but it can be taken two totally different ways.
to the [OP], hope you enjoy your new Android phone. You'll see it has it's ups and downs to iOS. Make sure to hand around, you might learn something here and there.

It was a bit sarcasm on my end,I guess I need to work on how to type things, that sound correct an not dickish. My bad if I offended y'all in any way. Hopefully next time we won't run into this the problem ever again. So why aren't you a mod?? I seen your other post in different threads, very informative. For now on I think I'll ask you bout problems, lol (that's a joke btw)

Good bye HD2, it's been hell and back.

For the last 6 weeks I've had nothing but headaches between two T-Mobile HD2's. I bought on release date, 3 days later I was better off tossing it in the freezer because all it would do is freeze. It also lagged, was buggy and a glitch fest. Apps didnt work, screen didn't work, Sense UI wouldn't load ugh, I can go on. I got another HD2, within the first 7 hours it froze on me too lol. It also had the same issues as the first.
I just want to thank everybody here in the forums for helping solve my phone issue, as I've research and tried everything but they did not help. Also thanks to HTC and T-mobile.com for putting up with my madness lol, although T-Mobile allowed me to get my OG plan back (and keep my HD2), I can now leave T-Mobile (im under no contract) to get something else (leaning towards the Evo 4G over the Nexus One).
P.S. I hope T-Mobile gets there act together and releases a patch ASAP, it sucks that such a incredible piece of hardware is having a lot of problematic issues.
that's weird,I assume you were on stock rom which is why u got the issues...custom roms eliminate those issues u have on stock rom.
i dont think it's so much the stock ROM, mine's been wonderful with the stock ROM. it's more that he was unlucky enough to be one of the first bozos who got the phone with version 2.10. for me, rom version 2.11 has been nothing but bliss, so much that after trying several custom roms i went back to my stock 2.11 because, compared to it, all custom roms suck (winmo devs aren't as good as android devs).
there's a thread with stock roms and 2.11 is usable even without hspl (i kept hspl out of personal preference and I'll try to make my own build). good luck to you anyway. i suggest you get a nexus one and flash desire rom (or heck, get a desire)
If it is freezing, the first setting I would check is
Start > Settings > Menu > All Settings > Today > Items
The setting "Today timeout", at the bottom left hand corner,
should not be selected/enabled.
why shouldnt the today timeout be selected, just out of curiosity?

I think its more of a "You don't know how to use such a powerful piece of equipment!!!" There is nothing wrong with your phone, its just easier for you to believe your own lie when you return it by posting for others to read what horse doo doo it is,...Like for example, "Transformers missing do to a Faulty sdCARD"...sorry I have full reset my phone several times just to erase everything and removed my sdCard with no Data loss issues, I agree with the other guy, I think its you and you should properly close your apps before claiming its your phone...Ever heard P.E.B.K.A.C before?...Problem Exists Between Keyboard and Chair!!! My phone has frozen at least once every day it seems like. But I think i solved the battery issue. I bought a second battery!! Haha, I am so S M R T! At any rate, I love this phone for the big screen and fast internet. I just wish I had a way to get mp4's to watch. Or that more books on barnes and noble were free.

It's obvious you have no idea what your talking about and lacking the intelligence to do so. I have plenty of videos posted here showing how horrible my two devices are (do a search). It's HTC Sense UI that is the problem, not WM6.5. I've shown HTC reps and T-Mobile reps my phone, they've test and diagnosis it, and if it wasn't for me, there wouldn't be a update on the way. So keep talking ****, that's why your teeth are brown.

I was with you till you said the bolded
how solipsistic can you be to assume that based on your pathetic user experience that tmobile and htc would generate an entire updated rom to suit just your needs??? Give me a break dude...
this is xdas not fan pandering to overly zealous delusional users that are so far up steve jobs craw they can see his prostate...I mean seriously what the frick???
And I admit for 80% of errors it is brought on by the user and not the device itself. The hd2 has its flaws. All phones do...but for most users they are iphone/android converts expecting the same experience without doing any research on htc and windows mobile. And to those users, yes I say they do deserve any error they get. Why? You didn't take time to learn about your device. This isn't something as simple as a flashlight where you press the on button and something magically happens. Its a pocket pc and that means a lot...
Closing this thread as it is turning into a bashing session. Lets keep it civil.

Enough Already, Stop Flashing Your Phones.

I feel that everyone flashing their phones is making the phone manufactures upset. They go to all the trouble and make a nice stable, mostly usable pieces of software and you go and tear it apart and make something else.
I can imagine someone sitting at their desk now crying into their hankies saying "why, oh why don't they like my OS?
People work very hard and put their blood, sweat and tear into a project and you go and dismiss it like it's got cooties.
This is not right. Why not stay with what the cell phone gods decided we should be using? OK, fine, be that way. Never mind that different countries get different versions of the software at different times. Never mind that they work sometimes better, sometimes worse than other countries version of the OS. Never mind that some phones die when the upgraded OS gets installed onto the phone, this does not matter, it's still not right.
You bought a phone, live with the OS. I say "Stop flashing now".
Ian

I guess you don't see a little tongue in cheek when you see it.
I think the OP is being sarcastic/ironic
I'm not sure if you're being serious or if you're joking... If you're joking, then, you got me.
If you're serious, then that's absolutely rediculous. If I purchase a $500 piece of hardware, I'm going to damn well do whatever I'd like to it. I'm not leaving it up the the manufacturers to decide what software I use on my phone. (Especially Samsung - TouchWiz? Social Hub? Really now?)
If I void the warranty or otherwise render my phone unusable, that's ultimately my fault. But I'd rather bring it upon myself to modify ROMs to my liking rather than blindly allowing a manufacturer to dictate what software I use, what updates should be installed, etc.
tl;dr: If I buy a phone, it's my phone, no one elses.
EDIT: Guess you were joking... I shouldn't have typed out all that.

You gotta be kidding!
In a way I agree with you that we should respect the hardworking from Samsung engineers. But the offical ROMs were really laggy and with bugs.
Laggy, no need to explain, everyone suffers from it.
Bugs, for example there are lots of reports about Social Hub not working with Froyo. Difficulty connect to Kies! These are all the OFFICAL FUNCTIONs straight from Samsung!
XDA's ROM cooks make SGS a LOT better than just stuck with offical ROM. Don't you think we should be thankful for their hardworking, sweats, .... ?
Okay, if Samsung in the beginning made something like Froyo 2.2.1, I might stick with it. But that was only a "IF".
Farewell!

And what freaking planet do you live on? Every piece of equipment manufactured these days is altered by the end user in one way or another. Do you drive a box standard car? change the wallpaper on your home pc/ laptop, redecorate a brand new house or add a conservatory? all this is called progress and modification to the end users taste or preference.
Sorry mate but your just talking a pile of **** and it sounds like you should indeed have a iphone enjoy your box standard Galaxy S and remember not to add any new wallpapers or ringtones as thats not what God intended....

A more fool-proof way of detecting the fools is picking out the endless stream of OP's looking for help with their "bricked" phone. Literally one after the other of original threads talking about the SAME thing. Posted right after the pinned topics on how to solve most of these issues.
I know that w98seeng was joking but maybe he's on to something
I just flashed to 2.2.1, through registry hack,
man its good,
Can`t speak about GPS, but there`s no lagging in my phone,
I highly recommend to anyone not to use any custom firmwares anymore or even lagfixes,
probably they serve only for useless benchmarking, adding troubles to troubles,
Maybe Samsung finally realised how to make the phone work, and maybe Nexus S experience helped a bit..

Goodbye Omnia 7

Hey hey XDA. Ive been lurking for a good year or two and have never really had a need to post, but I felt it might be useful to share my experiences with the Omnia7. I got it almost after launch in the UK and was...slightly unimpressed. My love for the handset grew, however the technical issues also started to swell. Firstly I experienced the unresponsive home button issue and had the handset replaced twice due to screen issues. Secondly, the frame started to crack recently and trust me, I dont do anything with my handset to cause it to crack...nor do I bash it around causing the paint to flake off!a
Anyway, the final straw was yesterdays 'black screen of death'. I was using it as normal and put it in my pocket after class. I am walking home and go to check to the time only to find that it wouldnt respond. This is followed by a random reboot followed by a series of white lines flashing across the top of the screen...followed again by a load of pink and green dots appearing and disappearing. The phone reboots again and then works...only to repeat again. Add to this an OS which has yet to be given any sort of new lease of life beyond a bit of copy and paste...well...im saddened.
Orange were kind enough to send another one today but having reviewed my options, im afraid to say im jumping ship back to Android. I was under the impression that the Omnia 7 was a well built handset with a solid OS...but that doesnt seem to be the case. That or im incredibly unlucky. :/ Phone is heading straight to Amazon Marketplace in its shiny new packaging!
Anyway, thanks for providing lurker over here with some amazing advice. Just my two cents! Adios.
Sorry to hear that it didn't work out for you.
How much are you selling it for?

Yeah it sucks that ive had zero luck with it. On a brighter note, im finally investing in an HD2 purely so I can get back to tinkering...so I might end up back with WP7, albeit in a modded form!
Ive listed it for £300 GBP. Its a bit less than what most people are selling them for however I want to sell quickly in order to get another phone. Im currently using a ghetto as all hell nokia and it pains me to use it :/

Sorry, but see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=929460
The unresponsive issue is something people are confused about and think it's a handset problem. It's not, it's not responsive for a reason and that's when the sensor is covered! See the thread.
As for the other issues, I agree, that's crap luck by the sounds of it.
And dude, I agree with the poor effort from Microsoft regarding updates and copy and paste. I mean it's like they have ignored the competition and the things people really need on their devices. Copy and paste shouldn't be an update, it should of been there in the first place!
But with time, I believe WP7 will stand strong.

Definitely not working for any company, and I have developed many Android ROMs and never had this problem. I've been here since 2005, for crying out loud. This is my first Samsung ROM, so I admit to being new there. I will even accept your "stupid idiot" comment, as I guess I deserve it. Although, I wonder why 150 people have downloaded it and only two or three people that I can see have been bricked. Something must connect those with issues. We need to find what it is.
Also, I am happy to pay for the de-bricking of those who are legitimately bricked i.e., followed instructions, have a receipt from JTAG, or whatever it is). Just PM me.

Absolutely. I understand. I have gotten into many messes since i started developing, and know that panic. I just need to know everything you.and the other user who had this problem can tell e about your device so i can find out what the common denominator is. So, confirm it is the wifi and 3g version you are using, and what build you are coming from, if you would. Are you using a sim card? Have you tried pressing power and volume up for a while? Thanks. Also, does your tablet feel hot at all?

So, confirm it is the wifi and 3g version you are using, and what build you are coming from, if you would. Are you using a sim card? Have you tried pressing power and volume up for a while? Thanks. Also, does your tablet feel hot at all?

Well I used yours as a base, just chopped the usual crap out, resigned, flashed, everything seemed OK. Initiated reboot, bam, doesn't turn on.
Charged all night, tab is hot along left edge, so I'm guessing still charging. 8600.

let us exchange the ideas
first we need to get the device powered so maybe remove and return battery could do something?? but how?
any external way to use it throw usb slot while charging ?
I would try pulling the battery but have no idea how to get the case off.
Steve, just wondering out loud whether those who have the hard-brick issue be because there are on pre-production hardware, so they have a slightly different hardware SKU. Hence your ROM does not work for them.

That seems to be the case for one of them. I am not positive about the others. I am having a hard time getting people to just tell me what build they were using prior to the flash...There seem to be 3 people who have had this porblem, and there must be something linking them, although it may be something random. Need to figure it out.

I came from P6800ZSKL2. Dont know if it was from the very first production line, but judging by the quality (i bought three, all with crap displays) they probably were.
Also, i believe the device is on and trying to unpack something because it is indeed warm.
This of course means that there may be hope of getting into download or recovery yet... i will drain it for 34 hours and then attempt to turn it back on.

Please see sk806 original thread- we have been "discussing" why you might be having "problems".

Uh, not sure about the quotes, but yes, I am about to try something that might answer the question of why some bricked. If the answer is affirmative, however, the only solution likely is JTAG...

BTW, his "suggestion" was "incorrect." Still not sure what's up. Will keep posted, and like I said, I'll work something out with JTAG for those who got bricked yesterday and posted about in in the original thread before I responded.
Steve
For the record hard bricks on the Exynos 4210 will occur generally in one of 3 ways:
1) Mis-matched boot.bin and sbl.bin
2) Incompatible boot.bin and sbl.bin combo
3) Invalid PIT file flash from an earlier generation TAB or Galaxy S device
Anything else causing a black screen is simply hardware failure.

HTC D2 Android upgrade -or-Save me from brain damaged brother

Hey Guys,
I'm home for the holidays and my brain damaged brother decided it would be a good idea to see if my cell phone was water proof and accidentally dropped it in my parents pool. He said he will buy a replacement as soon as he earns enough money, but based on his current spending habits, which is primarily focused on beer and girls with room temperature I.Q's, I'm not going to hold my breath.
To make a long story short, he gave me an old phone of his to use until such time as he wins the lottery, or Jesus comes. It's an HTC D2 with the ungodly Windows 6.5 I believe. It looks like it will work for awhile, but I'd rather not use Windows. My brother came out of his drunken stupor long enough to direct me to this website, and told me to ask about upgrading the phone to Android. Due to his beer clouded vision and limited language skills, it seems he is unable to do this himself.
Is there an easy way to upgrade this phone to Android? I read through quite a few of the posts here, but found so many confusing options and variations I don't know what to do. I know most of you guys can build a nuclear reactor with a paper clip and chewing gum, but are there any instructions that even a Psych major can follow? I'm not stupid, but I'm not and engineer either. I'm going back to college soon, so I would like something stable that I don't constantly have to fiddle with.
I found something that shows how to install Android "Ice Cream Sandwich". The video is a bit dated, so I don't know if it's the easiest way. I want something simple to use. Is "Ice Cream Sandwich" recent enough for me to use my favorite apps? Is it stable? Is this even the best way to do it? It seems a bit difficult to follow and I don't know if I can even do it. The website here won't let me post the link, so I doctored it up a bit.

Sorry for the long post, and especially if I put anyone off with all "my brother" rants, but he just dropped my phone in the pool about 2 hours ago and I really needed it while I'm home. I tried finding help somewhere else at first, but received a message from a guy, who makes my brother look like a genius, saying he'd help me if I sent him a naked picture of myself. Uh, thanks, but no thanks.
I only have about a week left to stay here, so if I don't get the phone working by the time I leave I guess I can use the Windows phone. Any help or insights would be welcome.
Thanks!

Too. Many. Details ..... But I guess it is worth it against who might flame you for not "searching" and "trying stuff on your own"
For people who just want to know the question, it's highlighted in red.
To be honest, you WILL have to do some reading before installing Android on that device. Depending on whether you want to keep WinMo or not and on what matters the most to you.
But as to not confuse you, I'm going to assume you want Android on NAND using MAGLDR bootloader.
Follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044830 which should guide you through the whole process.
I can also assume that ICS should be fine for you, but if it doesn't suit you, feel free to try others. But ICS should be recent enough for most apps.
Follow that thread, and if you get stuck you may come back here and tell us where you got stuck and why and we will try to help.

Thanks for the reply, I did extensive searches and was overwhelmed by the hundreds of different options and opinions. I will just try and sort the easiest option I can to get his phone working like my old one.
Thank you again!

The way you describe your brother is epic. You're really cute.
Anyway, from second post is all you need... It actually helped me too. I'm looking for a guide like this after few hours of searching.
