I consider myself a search guru, but man finding the right Froyo rom for my Epic has become a nightmare. I just traded my HTC EVO 3D for an Epic plus a few $$$$, but it has a custom rom installed. I like being rooted, but with stock roms.
I plan to go back to the latest firmware updated, then do the one touch root process, but must have the stock rom.
I truly appreciate any help out there
Since you are a Giants fan, I will find it for you. I think I have the stock EB13 ROM that will ask you to update to EC05 immediately after first boot if you want me to grab that one for you..

Go to the Development forum and search for either EC05Plus ROM or ReRFS ROM. Both are mostly stock and prerooted. If you really want stock then go to the top of that forum in the stickies to the one on how to fix a semi-bricked Epic. That has the full stock tar and Odin links then you can root that.

As usually John we are both right there with the help...Especially for a Giants fan!

Yeah, unfortunately I have to get to my PC to get the stock version I have but Kenny is right..ReRFS is a good way to go. EC05 Plus is another good choice

What would be the benefits of rooting right now? I just have the urge to mess with my phone for some reason.
Having root access to the phone...getting rid of bloatware...having root access apps...flashing one of the lighter ROMs we already have...being ready to flash a froyo ROM as soon as it hits...toying with the phone...lots!

Interesting, I guess I'll root today. What themes and roms are currently available? And anyone know when the "real" lag fix is coming?
Theres a couple different themes in the themes forum...nothing that appeals to me. Theres also a very nicely cleaned up rom in the dev forum. Install clockwork and check that out

In your opinion what is the best rooting guide to follow? There are a couple out there.
the sticky in the development section lol
Yeah I went to one click root. Followed the link to Android Central and followed the manual directions listed there.

It's out now?!?!
Found it!
I'm guessing we just flash this the same way I used to flash stuff on my droid? No need to rename to update.zip since I'm using clockwork, correct?
I dont understand why people want voodoo...what does it change?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
it changes the /system to ext4 format from FAT(i believe it is) which is much much faster on system read and writesso makes phone run way smooth

Just flashed voodoo. HUGE difference!
If i flash voodoo would i be able to switch back if the need arose?

Rooted, Clockwork, Titanium Pro worth every penny (froze all things crap), voodooed.
Battery life and spiffyness is sweet. At 75% battery when at this point in the day I would be at 35 to 45%. Do it. Just make sure you read and read more. Coming from years of winmo this android stuff was definitely a huge learning experience.
good day.
there are a lot of apps for rooted phones, and you are able to flash clockworkmod so you can use it to install roms and make backups, and more....

Yes roms in the developement section here can all usually be flashed through cwm unless otherwise stated. And I've never needed to unroot, but odin is a windows gui for flashing tar's(which are roms usually official and modems). You use Odin when you want to go back to complete stock, or modems usually. You can do other things with Odin such as flash custom recoveries like cwm. Odin is your bestfriend if you mess something up, always make sure to use a premium blackberry or other thick cable besides the one that came with the phone when using odin.(most people have difficulties with stock cable.)

I want to convert my brothers epic back to stock without root or custom roms or anything...i just want to update through the sprint updates to 2.3. I think right now it is on a 2.1 rom...so how would i go about getting it on the official sprint updated 2.3 ginerbread?
thanks
Why nit just flash an ei22 rom ... it will keep Witt and update you. The almost stock rom works good.

Odin back to EC05 and then manually or wait for the gingerbread update to be pushed to it... You'll lose all data doing this though. The

Yes here is the thread to help you revert it to EC05 to get the OTA from Sprint:

Also as mentioned you could always just flash a custom Gingerbread ROM like Legendary.

My GPS survived the update without incident. I then rooted and flashed.
I agree with the other posters, I did the same as you're trying to do, and while I found it to be a very nice update, I liked the ACS ICS v5 ROM much more. It is EI22 Gingerbread as well.
Just purchased my G2 yesterday and am shocked at the amount of development being done. So far I am loving it. Speed and data for me are insane. I'm already rooted however still researching recovery options. Something is telling me this phone is a pain to flash. But Evert if that is the case the HTC one S was a pain also and there was still tons of development being done. I'm I missing something?

Just throw TWRP or CWM on it and get started. It's as simple as that. I have flashed many times already.
This is the simplest phone phone ever had.
Easy to root and easy to flash.
Just make sure read on it before you do anything.
Right know I'm on pa-4.4.km.

Agreed. Development on the G2 is amazing, the scene seems even hotter than when the Gnex came out.
My Note 3 is going on Swappa tonight!
Note 3= Dissapointment & Development Joke.
LG is really making magic happen latley.
I appreciate everyone's input. Don't get me wrong I'm loving so far. I'm just accustomed to more Roms with different ports . picking up the HTC one today. Love new toys

My question is did anyone found a way to remove that ROOTED text when you boot into download mode after going back to stock? I meant after unrooting by flashing back lg stock firmware using the ODIN or something like that.

Based on my experience after flash stock rom, at download mode root text is gone, and changed to unroot.

Okay, I'm still confused by the lack of ROMs available. No ports. Very few mods. Am I missing something? This is just my observation and not a judgment

Agreed. Especially the VS980. Development has been very slow and there are only a handful of 4.4 ROMs for it. The casual flashers will continue to praise the "quick development", but the avid crack flashers are, I'm sure, disappointed by the slow updates.
Also just my thoughts and observation. I support the ROMs I use by donating, but I don't know how to to develop.
There's only a handful of 4.4 ROMs for every phone. Carbon, AOKP and PAC aren't doing many nightlys now because of the 4.3 to 4.4 switch. When they get ROMs more stable for us we'll see more of them rolling out.
