In the process of replacing my lcm, I managed to tear the button flex cable that connects to the mainboard.
I am currently looking for a the button flex replacement. What is the best way of tracking something like this down without going to HTC?
If there is no current seller/merchant available...Um...Is anyone selling an HTC HD2 for parts!?!?!?
Pics included...You can see the button strip, and the little 45 degree angle break on the flex..SUCKS!
I saw the break... Man, that's bad luck...
I hope you find a new button strip. The only other solution would be to solder fine wires from the point I highlighted on the photo. But that is very very very difficult... If you decide to do so until you find a new button strip I would recommend you to let an expert solder it, for example a television-technician. That shouldn't cost you more than a bier for the technician!
Wish you luck!
This just in, I have since purchased a broken hd2 and replaced the button strip. It has a light adhesive and is mounted on two small plastic posts on either end. To loosen the adhesive, just apply gentle heat (blow dryer) and GENTLY peel off. You might come across a stubborn part and want to give it a harsh tug, but you need to methodically peel it up using some sort of flat piece to get from underneath it.
Another torn flex Anyone has spare one or knows where can I get it?
I'm sorry but can't help. I get parts for iPAQs from iPAQ Repairs in the UK. I'm surprised there isn't something similar for HTC parts.
I'm interested in what an 'lcm' is. I've seen it mentioned but with no description.
i need one of these too. i hate htc's policy in not selling parts directly.
This button board should only be like upto $40 usd.
im needing a main board charger soxet broke if price is right ill sell
I have the same problem ....you solved?
where did you buy?
Hi

You should be a good electronic technician or know a good one. Otherwise I advice you not to try. I am a ordinary technician and I can say that in my case it was very very difficult and even if I tried hard, I wasn't able fix all connections. Only two of my buttons work right now.
How to Replace Button Strip?
Anyone know of a link showing how to replace this strip? Either I can't find key words for a search or there aren't any good videos out there. - thanks
Good to hear I'm not the only one to snap it so easily. Ordered a replacement from e-bay.
Sorry to dig up an old post but, I need that little wire that connects the wifi/bluetooth module to the main board. I replaced the digitizer in my phone and I somehow jacked up one of the ends on the cable. Anyone out there have parts?
Hi
I damaged my digitizer on my Touch2, I have ordered a replacement part and it has arrived.
I have stripped the phone down now, but I am stuck as to how to get the screen out.
I don't want to use too much force so any pointers as to how I can get my screen out and replace the digitizer will be greatly appreciated.
Paul
Dude, the only thing i got in my mind is youtube, there you can find anything. Try writing the something like Change digitizer on HTC Touch2 and may be you will find it, good luck
I've looked on u-Tube and found nothing for the Touch 2.
Was hoping someone on here might have more information.
Still no luck on this. Anyone?
I replaced many digitizers on blueangel and always used razor blade to seperate the lcd frame from the digitiser. The only issue was soldering the digitiser in to the lcd ribbon cable as they are soooooo thin, never opened the touch 2 yet but I can imagine its probably all cramped in there
I successfully changed my digitalizer.
I used book to help myself with added book.
Code:
www[dot]mikechannon[dot]net/PDF%20Manuals/OSeven%27s%20Disassembly%20Guide%20to%20the%20HTC%20Touch%20-%20Elf%20.pdf
Firstly, remember what you do, photograph your phones "guts" if you wnat
I, like in other video tutorials, started with removing 4 screws, after that gently half-opened corner gap between silver and front side and put in that gap plastic thing which came with digitizer.
When successfully lifted back off then you gonna see main board. In top right corner there is little screw which comes out hard in my situation. An you have to take off LCD connector wire (in left side) and digitizer connector (in left top corner). Don't forget after change of digitizer to put them back like they were or you will have to disassamble again !!!!
After doing that GENLEY lift main board off of screen. BE CAREFUL. YOU Have to pull of that black sticker on right side on board which connects from volume control to main board. Don't forget to put it back.
So you have the front side on your hand. Now push gentley but hard it from inside out. It is glued with some kind of glue. It seems it won't come but it comes (in that book it is showed).
So change your digitizer to new one and put everything back together.
You are done. Sorry I don't have pictures because it didn't came in my mind to picture it
I hope this tutorial will help you.
This is not for the Touch 2 but thanks for the help.
Still nto replaced it yet, phone is in bits in a box.

Tutorial is in Russian.Just look at the pictures.

I just bought a replacement power button/ flex cable for Nexus of ebay. Took me around 30 minutes to replace it but its fully working right now. Its around 30 £ .
Item name it "Flex Cable Repair Parts for HTC Google Nexus one G5 1"
Just thought i let you know .
Any pictures?
Is it a tricky fix? I replaced my digitizer just fine so hopefully this wouldn't be a major repair job in comparison. Would love to have my power button working again!
I don't understand why you fixed it yourself, I sent mine back to HTC.

How much did it cost for the repair out of interest? Did it take them long to get it back to you?
Just curious if to you it looked like a bad button connection or a bad cable? I know sometimes the buttons get crud in them so they dont make a proper connection...
Great info. Too bad we don't have step by step pics. How did you take the phone apart and how deep did you have to go?
Does anyone know why the power button breaks? I have my N1 a year now and (luckily) i never had a HW issue. anyways i was just wondering why it breaks .
Step by step pics would have been nice.

The power button itself has a small cylindrical piece of plastic which pushes against and presses a small connection that sorta clicks (Which gives you the tactile feedback you feel). I think the problem occurs when either 1) The piece of plastic either bends/breaks/gets damaged in some way that makes that contact much harder to produce 2) The connection is connected to the phone via a cable/flex, however due to the Nexus one design it is bent around in order to be below the power button, while this is fine for the majority some devices, including mine, have seen the flex become damaged for whatever reason and either function intermittently or not at all.
It's also interesting to note that there is nothing holding the flex or the connection in place except for the design itself i.e. the battery bay plastic holds it all in place. My power button was never that responsive (But got progressively worse) so this may explain why.
Its always flex cable breaks and there is no way you can replace just the flex cable. You can find plenty of disassembly instruction over the net and yes you need to disassembly it to the pieces( still less to do than to replace digitizer.)I had a seal broken so i couldn't send it to HTC.

I did some googling and found a few images of that component, I remember taking it out and it was pretty simple so it should be just fine! Thanks for the info!
Is it the Power button part that you changed ?
Hi,
I have found a photo of the power button part, can you tell us if you changed the full part shown on the photo ?
androidguys.com/2010/09/08/manage-nexus-broken-power-button
And i think you paid it way too much expensive ?
Thanks.
I just replaced my flex cable as well as the loud speaker as well.
iFixit has a few pictures and there is a video on youtube, of the taking apart process. Unfortunately I can't post links
There are two little rubber parts that will likely fall out during the mainboard removal. One goes underneath the connector beside the sim card and one is a part of the microphon.
I wish I could have taken pictures of where those parts go, but alas, my only camera right now is my nexus, so....
BTW, I bought my parts at Mobile Brando. Quite well priced as compared to many other stores of the kind.
was it the whole board that you've replaced? or just the flex cable for the power button. can you further elaborate the steps that you've done?
So this is the item that you purchased? http://mobile.brando.com/google-nexus-one-mother-board-flex-cable-ribbon_p6193c1023d88.html
Can you confirm that the 3.5mm jack is on that board? Additionally, is that motherboard and flex cable for the AMOLED version or the SLCD version?
Do you need to remove the screen and risk getting dust inside there to swap this part?
Hi,
That's exactly the item, at that very same store. I also bought a loudspeaker as well as both back covers there. The audiojack is on board and I believe the flex cable has nothing to do with the screen type. The screen does not have to be removed.
I used those pics: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nexus-One-Teardown/1654/1
and this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cznogushN34&feature=player_embedded to figure out how to do it.
Basically, it's quite straight forward, given that you aren't a clumsy oaf ;-)
Remember the two rubber parts that might fall out when you pull off the mainboard assembly. (one at the bottom, for the microphon (http://guide-images.ifixit.net/igi/fpRmPyN6h12mtNvt.huge ,a bit to the left of the plastic tool) and one at the connector beside the sim card (http://guide-images.ifixit.net/igi/EOfeocuwhCRASB6M.huge , on the left part, somewhat down from the serial number sticker).
I have this probleme, but this part costs too much :S....
10. pin ON OFF way in board socket... u make jumper to on off buton
I have replace Power button for my N1. But you can reset your N1 by do'n need it. Except when you want flash rom!
Today I aquired a HTC Trophy with a cracked screen.
It was not cost effective to have it replaced by the workshop, so I'm attempting to replace it myself.
Following the MicroSD replacement guide by DominikZ, it's been a fairly simple and straight forward process, but I have now come to a point which I'm not sure how to proceed.
I've gotten to the point where I have the two ribbon cables disconnected, and have now separated the systemboard from the front. The front frame now contains the LCD, digitizer and speaker.
Does anyone have some tips on how to proceed from here?
What about the other 3 (black) screws? Torx 6?

Thanks for the tip Lance The pictures were easy to understand, especially when I don't read chinese.
However they did not cover removing the LCD and digitizer.

The three screws on the back of the lcd casing is not screws. Those are threaded cylinders, for attaching the front with the back.
Hey there
how far have you got with repairing the screen as I also acquired a HTC Trophy with a cracked screen. The phone still works so there is no rush but I need to know what I need to repair this unit?
Hey.
No progress so far. I'm not sure how the glass is attached to the front housing, but I have an idea that it might be glued on from the front.
You may be able to extract the glass from the front by using a hairdryer and something thin, like a razorblade. However I have not tried this yet, so I can't say for sure.
Good luck ;-)
There are digitizer replace videos for the htc desire:
youtube.com/watch?v=sXZqIjtFoAU
If the Trophy is build in a similar way you can see how you to remove the glass at 4:00
You can use a hair dryer instead of an oven.
Hi folks, been a long time lurker, came here after looking for a solution to this very problem, so, nlamer here's how to do it, be warned though it's not an easy repair.
(och, I cant post image links until I have made 8 posts :-S )
see attached photos, i'll prob need to do a few replies to post them all.
1:- Strip your phone down and remove the logic board from the chassis, carefully remove the lock tabs to release the ribbon for the LCD & digitizer
2:- Use a heavy duty knife ( I used a stanley blade ) to slice the adhesive holding the LCD to the digitizer, it's only held round the edges so you dont need to go too far in
3:- Peel back the cracked digi and just slice the ribbon, it's attached to the back of the LCD and your not going to be using it again anyway
4:- The LCD is held in place with the light grey adhesive strips, use a spudger to remove it, just be careful not to put too much pressure on it or you will damage the LCD, in my experience it's always better to have a replacement on standby just incase
5:- A quick check to make sure the LCD is still ok, you never know!!!
6:- On the old digi you will need to remove the three clear plastic tabs at the bottom and transfer them to the new one, these feed the LED's to the capacitive button's on the bottom, they are held in place with some adhesive & are not difficult to remove
7:- Remove all the old adhesive and apply some knew strips, I used 3M stuff here and trimmed it to fit but I dare say there are adhesive kits available on eBay
8:- Do the same to the LCD
9:- Line up the LCD with the marks on the digitizer and press it into place, the digitizer ribbon has a small piece of adhesive to attach it to the back of the LCD
10:- Place the display into the chassis, make sure the ribbons go through the gaps in the chassis and everything lines up before committing to pressing down
11:- If all goes well after re-assembly it should be looking sweet again.
Hope that helps yourself & other's out ;-)
Regards
Thanks for the instructions irepairtechstuff. It is greatly appreciated. I almost have my device wrapped up, and ready to go, but I'm having some trouble with the digitzer.
It seems behave as it pleases, and does not register pushes and swipes as it should be. Any tips on this?
Nevermind the last post.
I cleaned the connector with some alcohol, and now it works perfectly
I just got a trophy, I don't understand the adhesive verry well. I though you had to put adhesive on the underside of the touchscreen digitizer (along the edges of the screen) and on the metal frame, under the lcd or the underside of the LCD, but in this turtorial you see adhesive along the edges of the upside of the LCD?????
HELP!
Is there nobody who can help me?
Try private messaging the users who manged to get this to work. They should receive and email and might be able to come back and look at this thread.
Hi,
My HD2's power button died recently. It doesn't do anything when pressed
I've been using button savior software to have a soft key for end button for day to day usage, but however I can't get into MAGLDR to flash new roms anymore
So, I decided to order HD2 flex board from amazon as it costs only $15.
http://www.amazon.com/HTC-Keypad-Fl...OSAO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1320870170&sr=8-1
I have some experience opening up things and fixing them prior and also have the required screwdrivers with me. I've checked out some guides at ifixit for hd2, it seems easy enough to open, however they don't have guide to change the buttons.
I want to know if anybody has changed these buttons (the flex cable), is it easy enough to do by yourself or should I goto a professional repair guy to install it ?
No One :O
Well I got the flex board...I will try changing it tonight
Its not so hard but be very very careful ... or you soon buy new digitizer too. You must detach middle chasis at digitizer. Did you have 3M special tape on hand? When you go place back digitizer to middle chasis then you need before that replace all old tapes.
I dont have the tape...can you give me any link for it ?
EDIT: I also was studying the guide on iFixit for HD2
http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing-HTC-HD2-PB81120-Logic-Board/5919/7
I don't see the flex board for the keys visible till step 21..is it after removing the logic board I would be able to change the keys ?
It sounding more complicated than I thought
Unfortunately this guide what you gived is not complete. It for very basic works and for beginners. But thanks about link.
This is not only one place for tape but: 8mm and 6mm. These are right tapes, but i didnty find right now 3mm and 5 mm.
Yes, its after removing logic borad and then detaching middle case at digitizer with lcd. Look this good official apart video. Its good for learning to take apart hd2 correctly. Your interesting part starts at 5.28. YES RIGHT, YOU MUST PUT MIDDLECHASIS WITH LCD AND DIGITIZER TO OWEN! It just for that that then you can detach middle case at digitizer with lcd easy and not broke something (specially digitizer).
Have good time and later enjoy fixed hd2!
