best back up method

i am about to try another rom, so which back up method will restore the most info
looking at apps/ accounts/ contacts/ games saves etc etc
i have titainuim back up also have clockwork or is there a better back up method that will make my phone like it is now but on a new rom(where i will most likley have to do data/cache wipes before i install it)

short answer, no. The problem is if you restore the system settings and the framework is significantly changed you will end up with multiple Force closes, titanium backup will allow you to restore your apps with data but avoid restoring system data if possible (it is possible to create a flashable zip of titanium to flash from recovery so it's installed when you boot your new ROM) also ADW can save your desktop configuration and restore it and I use SMS backup/restore to restore my SMS's, your contacts etc should be catered for by google which will also try and restore some other settings and your apps.
BTW: Do a NANDROID backup before installing your new ROM, this is a snapshot of your system state which can be used to restore it to it's current state should the new ROM not be to your taste

with a new rom, i suggest just installing everything afresh so there are no compaibility problems. I imagine with titanium backup you could restore savegames

whats nandroid?
so when people are flashing a rom every other day they are having to reinstall everything???

this is what i want to do too. Install all apps from the market fresh, but use titanium to restore any data associated with the apps.
However im not sure which setting to use in titanium. When i click batch, there's 100 options. If i choose "Backup all system data", will this restore only the data like gamesaves etc?

No, as a rule if you are installing the same type of ROM ie aosp you don't have to wipe so everything should be retained, if swapping between different types of ROM ie aosp - sense then a wipe and subsequent reinstall is required
As for Nandroid its the backup option in recovery console and it takes a snapshot of the current ROM which if you where to restore would put your system back to its current state

Titanium Backup - WARNING !!!

Folks,
I just discovered at slight cost, Titanium Backup doesn't do what you think it does. I did a full system backup, then decided to remove a couple of system apps to try to restore - proof of theory style.
TB DOES NOT backup the SYSTEM .apk files, only the data associated with them. User installed .apk's are fine.

I only back up user apps and data. Doing other stuff is (as you have seen here) open for issues.

[Q]Backup data for ROM switch

Hello, I've understood that to be able to perform a ROM switch, without losing any data (SMS, etc...), I need to backup from TWRP
System, Data and Boot. But to keep my "datas" from the apps I use, how do I proceed ? Is the option "Backup all apps" from Titanium will be enough ? Or do I need to save as well with Titanium the data settings ? I have some problems with this.
I used to run Cataclysm but now I want to test Purity (won't go on JSS builds)

Hit the Box in titanium backup up top with the checkmark (between the menu and search button) backup all user apps.
After wiping and installing new Rom, hit the same button, scroll down to restore missing apps with data.

I only backup and restore user's app, with the exception of "Phone/Messaging Storage....38(SMS/MMS/APN)" That's for backing up messages. Also "Call log".
This is with Titanium backup.

How do you restore apps between ROM flashes?

Sorry, if this seems like a newbie question. Maybe it is, though I don't feel like a newbie.
How do you restore apps+data between flashes? I have tried titanium backup, creating update.zip or just batch restoring, I tried myBackup and Superbackup. But I can't find a backup that will consistently restore apps and data for a painless flashing experience. I always have to re-enter account data for dropbox, evernote, whatsapp, etc. etc. etc.
What do you do?

I did, I have.
But it doesn't help. For many apps, configuration is lost on restore. Or am I doing something wrong?
I put dropbox & evernote on a zip, flashed them, but configuration was lost. I restored them within Titanium,
and it was still lost.

Make sure you tick app + data when you restore apps.
personally i have used only few apps like whatsapp , here maps and google keep
and all my data was restored.
You do have type your google accounts information by yourself.

I backup apps via TB .
But on a rom flash i wipe rom flash rom test .
Then restore Data only from Nandroid backup .Works except when moving from JB to KK or similar major upgrade .All settings and layouts restored on stock based roms .

TiBu sucks? am I doing something wrong?

Hi, after rooting my phone with Magisk and having installed TiBu I proceeded to backup all user app + system data then I installed System app remover and removed some system apps that supposedly were "safe" to remove (briefing) but after a reboot I end up in a bootloop. I had to wipe everything and start from scratch (install ROM + Magisk)
On my first try I did not restore my data using Google + Samsung backup. I tried to restore my apps + system data using TiBu but after several hours of waiting to restore, it did not progress and stuck at 0%
On my second try I restored my data using google+samsung backup. After everything was set and ready I used TiBu's "Restore missing apps + all system data". This time TiBU did progress and completed the restore. After a reboot I start to notice that most of my apps/system settings customization are not even there... To name a few:
I had Full screen gestures instead of the navigation buttons. TiBu did not restore this
I had several accounts that TiBu did not restore (google, outlook, twitter, steam, blizzard, twitter and the list keeps going)
Simple things like Gboard was not even restored as default input method
Settings like one hand mode, edge lightning, quick panel layout, adaptive brightness, screen resolution (the list keeps going) were not restored the way I had them
TL;DR: TiBu did little to nothing despite having the pro version and the appropriate backup

Galaxy S10+ (Exynos SM-G975F)
Android 10 (G975FXXU3BSKO_G975FOWO3BSKO_ARO) patched with Magisk v20.2-11b7076a (20109)

TiBu is a powerful tool if you know how to use it, in a majority of the cases restoring any complete system backup is always a bad idea. If you ever want to restore system data, you need to use nandroid backup or selected apps in TiBu. When you restore user apps (missing apps in your case) all their data is restored and restored to the level of functionality they had before backing up.
For full-screen gestures, it's likely some mismatch between existing settings and restored system settings.
As for the accounts, it was likely because of restoring the app itself, they would have been there even before you backed them up.
Again, for system settings, you can't rely on TiBu in One UI, restoring system settings barely works in stock android.
My workflow is like this, If I am just tinkering with the system but my phone is stable, I do a nandroid backup (backup in recovery) and try out the mod/feature if it suits me, I continue with it, if not I restore back.
If I know I want to format, I generally need to do this when I've messed up in the system and need to start over. I install all I need in TWRP, setup the system only restoring call and SMS backup from Samsung Cloud, restore missing apps and go through the phone settings and set them up again. This ensures no ****ups from the previous install come back and now that I end up doing it regularly, I can do all this under 30 mins.

Thank you for taking your time to reply this thread, I am clearly new at this and I am barely scratching the surface. Gonna try and search more info about this "nandroid backup" (not even know what this is and how it works) you mention and see how it works. As for "TRWP" I read something about it but per the offical site: "Long story short, TWRP support for Android 10 is going to take a while." and that is why I did not pay attention to this app
