Best hacks i can think of are to uninstall the built in camera app and install 3rd party apps for camera and video recording, suggested starting points Camera ZOOM FX and lgcamera

I borrow this thread for a second or two.
Does anyone know of a camera app that
let you use the whole width of the lens?
What i mean is how to get the pictures
to match the screen resolution, when u
look at them on the Streak? And I don't
mean 800x480 pictures, but with decent
resolution (i.e. using the full capacity of
the 5MP camera). It always bothers me
that the pics doesn't fill the Dell screen.
Anyone

Well many 3rd party apps can do this, try Camera ZOOM FX, that enables you to choose many resolutions.

Thanx alot for trying to help. I tried a few 3:rd part apps
but they all force you to go down alot in resolution, to
match the 15:9 aspect ratio of the screen. Anyone
knowing of an app that can take 15:9 photos
with high resolutions? Thanx once again.

Herald as a Hidef Camcorder

Has any1 tried to increase (hack/regedit/hexedit, or thirdparty app, homebrew app, etc.) the resolution of video capture. With an Overclocked CPU what do y'all think is the highest resolution captured possible w/ this 2M camera. 1280x720p? 1920x1080i/p?. I know there are HD camcorders out there w/ less CPU power but dedicated chips for video encoding. How difficult to write such an app? Any tips to get started? Much thanks.
It's a 2mp camera so the max resolution is 1600x1200 if you go past that you start to get ripping/tearing and the images look ugly (I believe). It would be nice if the camera recorded in a higher quality/resolution I just don't know if that's possible with the hardware.

I don't have the phone yet. But I believe that the current App only allows a much lower res than 1600x1200 for video capturing, such as 640x480. Still image is possible up to 1600x1200. Pls chime in current owners. Thanks.
For sure this would be a great improvement, but as you all know PPC camera's are complete ****. I doubt that anything like this is possible but I would love for someone to prove me wrong.

Heh the standard camera app won't let you get past 176x144 in movie mode. You might be able to squeeze a jolty 320x240 clip out of your phone when using a third party app such as CoolCamera and overclocking the crap out of your chip, but 640x480 is off limits by far. The camera on these things is slow and not nearly as sophisticated as a camcorder. You'll have to wait another few years
Try to use Ateksoft "Cool caera" or Webcamera plus.
You can get ebtter pics and videos with Coolcamera.....
Up to 640x480 and more.
But Highdefinition is something else

[Q] Camera.apks

So I was just wondering why all the Android builds are using camera's that don't pics in widescreen format like the Winmo camera does. I like to take pics of the kids and stuff and I prefer the wide pics using WinMo but if Im using Android I don't want to have to switch.
If anyone has a widescreen camera.apk they can post it would be appreciated, thanks
Which android build are you using? I'm using the one on my sig and it works great in portrait and land scape mode.

So does yours take pics in full screen or is it the 640x480 ratio? Can you post the camera.apk you are using? I just switched to Bangsters today
I also want one of those .apk's. My camera shows the images in widescreen when looking through the lens, but then are captured in a different ratio, annoying...
It's a minor annoyance but an aannoyance nonetheless
So anyone have any ideas?
in my understanding the camera in winmo is 4mp in widescreen and 5mp in regular?
just use camera 360, that has full features.

Yes you are correct and it's not necessarily the 5mp I am after but just the widescreen angle that Winmo shoots in 4mp. And those pics come out really well for me at least, I am just looking to duplicate that experience so I can take that quick shot without having to boot to Winmo
Vignette has full resolution camera. Love it.

Camera settings for best quality

Guys okay i can see all of you likes the camera quality and i think then is just me i cant do the right settings to it to get good quality pictures ... i read in this forum to get rid of task killers and use only System Panel and to disable the image stabilizer to get more focused and non blurry pictures but still i don`t think the quality is that great because the sharpness is big fail ...(or it is me not using the right settings) if i have to compare it with camera of nokia 6700 the nokia is taking better quality pictures ... if somebody can tell me what is the right settings to use i`ll be more than happy ty! atm i at as it fallows Normal capturing mode, 8mpx or 6mpx it depends scenes more often are in normal and using multi autofocus as common taking picture method
i agree, id be very interested in the replies, i put most of mine down to poor light but to be fair it should be able to deal with indoor lighting
Ive used 8mp and 6mp wide. I switch on screen touch to take photo. Image stabiliser off.

I use Vignette since I think the default camera app messes with the picture.. it compresses it or something
Plus with Vignette you can take 16:9 8 mp shots, not just 4:3 8 mp. and they look great. Look at my timelapse for proof
yeah with vignette is much better i think but it is only me again how to shoot video with vignette ... because i can only take pictures with this widget
Vignette has a widget?
Anyway Vignette is only for taking pictures, not videos
I think the pics are compressed when uploaded. Zoom is hopeless though.

Yeah... it's a crap digital zoom. Not gonna get anything more out of a lens that small. I don't think I've seen a cameraphone with an optical zoom, and we have some insane cameraphones in Japan. (12 MP CCD with 1080p video, ect)

Tap on the Star button - effects and frames
And then go to frame and choose 16:9
always try to play with EV. It kinda seems that on 0 EV images are bit over exposed. Same as taking well lit night images, lowering EV do -0.7 -1 also lowers ISO values, so you ll get less noise

Well, thing is, Vignette can't do that
And the stock camera app is compressing the files too much.
Why the hell SE doesn't give us the option to set compression level?

Is your camera/photos WIDESCREEN? (disadvantages?)

Are you folks taking photos in widescreen?
I found that, although it looks much nicer, when I use a camera app and make the camera take widescreen photos, and then look at the details of the photo, it is no longer 5mp. It seems it downgrades the photo to 3.2mp or something like that.
Is there actually a disadvantage in taking widescreen photos?
ps. how come phones like the Desire HD utilize fullscreen camera right out of the box but we dont?

The same reason older phones navigate the web more artfully, or why the similarly-powered SGS2 and single core machines can run Full HD .mkvs and we cant, or why our camera (still) doesnt take 1080p shoots: because several parts of our software isnt optimized.
I have been wondering about the exact quality of "Widescreen" pictures myself, anyone can shed a light on that?

web browsing in GB is amazing, smooth as butter. still use dolphin browser though
My widescreen photo's (the default) have always been 3.2mp -- even on Froyo. It's because of the way the photo is cropped. If you set the camera to 5mp, the photo's do not fill the Atrix screen because of the aspect ratio.
Yep, widescreen appears to take the 5MP roughly 4:3 and crop the top and bottom to make it something like 16:9. I changed it to the 5MP setting and always use that.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
So pretty much, even though the widescreen makes sense and looks proper on our phones, it is actually not a good option to use
i actually like it, looks great for landscape pictures, or long portraits. if you just want a normal picture then you should know not to use "wide"screen.

camera app

So everyone is complaining about the camera app. What am I missing? Can't you just install the Google camera app?
I was wondering the same but thought maybe that it could possibly not be used due to the two camera setup.
I've read people say you can just install the Google camera app, and that it works fine (but no more detail than that - I imagine it might not use the monochrome camera, will be surprised if it tries to use both together).
The OnePlus 5 camera was ported to the honor 8. Maybe the same could be done for the essential phone

I installed the APK for the Google Pixel Camera ... pretty sure it was from this site. Didn't work. Crashes the instant you open it. Kinda wondering if I did something wrong??
PS: The camera really is beyond awful. The results are on par with a 20 year old disposable camera. Really need to get something better ASAP.

I have no issues taking pictures, all mine turn out fantastic. Especially when just using the monochrome sensor by itself.

Guys am I missing something? Is there any way to change from a 4:3 aspect ratio to a 16:9 one for the rear cameras using the default camera app? I am able to do it of course using the Google camera app.
I use the "Open Camera" app. Seem to work well
I haven't seen anyone mention that the stock camera app is compressing the pics. Stock pics come out at 1.6 mbs or so while Gcsm is 3+ mbs.

Don't have the phone on me now but I'd imagine it's the resolution that sets the aspect ratio so choose one that is 16:9 like 4032x2268 (9.1M) or 2560:1440 (3.7M). At least those are my options on my S8's stock camera app... lol
Just got the phone and seeing the resolution as 4160x3120 but the file is only 1mb vs 5.5mb on the Google camera. Too much compression, no wonder the photos look so grainy.
