OK guys first off: This is my first android device, and I want it to be as fast as possible.
This being said, I just want either a DEFAULT Froyo 2.2 or default gingerbread 2.3 which means none of these stupid themes that motorola puts on it. Now here is why I'm here:
Is there a way without having to go through like 20 different steps in order to get the default android skin on my phone? I've jailbroken many a iphone but this android stuff is very new to me, so I was also wondering if there is an IRC channel I can go to or if someone would be nice enough to either guide me through or pm me through how to root my new phone?
thanks,
mike

I have been reading the stickies, I've also been reading about the roms and themes but there is some lingo in those posts as well as concerns.
For instance for the themes I've read several posts where it says to just load the themes on a rooted device, and yet others like the wiki here which says that specific themes are for specific ROMS.
Another problem with the stickies is I have no clue when someone last updated them, because some like the one for "Easy Root" or "z4root" MUST be old cause you can not find that app on the android Market place.
I just want to make sure that I'm getting the latest programs and such. I also wrote this because the one thing that me as well as a lot of other people want which is: Default Froyo. I dont want a custom theme, I want stock Froyo in all it's glory! Can anyone tell me of an easy to install ROM or easy to install theme that has this??
P.S. If there is an IRC channel for XDA could someone tell me about it? Cause I cant seem to find it at all

I have read most of that, and I get the first post, but then you seem to completely back track on the second one. I want the default Android skin from google on my droidx, so When you first said root I understood; but then you all of a sudden said that I need to deodex it as well.
This is the confusing part since you say in your post that it already included the root as well. So which should I do? root > bootstrapper > deodex? or just deodex then bootstrapper?
You have to be rooted, then flash the deodexed stock rom in recovery mode (hence the boot strapper). From there you can theme to your hearts content and even change the font if you wish.

Just because an app isn't on the market doesn't mean that it's old and no longer useful. And there are a million guides on how to do this. Just find a recent one and go for it
Alright I've done some more reading on different sites like engagdet and there seems to be a legal program called "LauncherPro" Apparently you can reskin with this program, Has anybody used this program? and if so how good / bad is it for removing blur?
My main concern is rooting my phone as well as getting rid of BLUR cause I believe that will slow it down considerably. thanks!
Unfortunately, launcherpro doesn't remove or replace blur, nor does it change things like the notification bar or lockscreen. Its a launcher app, meaning that it runs over blur, replaces the homescreens and launcher buttons. It's great for what it does but for your purposes won't work.
Honestly, I think the best route for you would be to take the time to root and flash a blurless rom like liberty or fission.

flyingpenguin is right.
Liberty is Blurless and you an install a Gingerbread theme on it straight from it's Liberty Toolbox app!
Check out my set up... I have Liberty 1.5 with the Gingerbread Blue theme and ADW Launcher EX.
What about the themes we were talking about earlier? Are those only available AFTER you flash to a ROM? Or are those just available after the deodexing? If so wouldn't that be the best and easiest way to get the stock froyo theme on my phone? or is that like launcherpro in that it just launches the theme over blur?
Also, I've seen your attachments and to be honest I don't like the look of it one bit, I just want a rom with stock froyo or even better stock Gingerbread.
Is there a rom out there with either of those stock? I should be getting my new droid x in the mail by next monday, at which time I'll probably be asking for more help, since I don't want my phone to brick the first day of use lol.
I used the z4 root on my dx. It took a couple of tries but it worked. I went with liberty 1.5 as my first custom rom and I love it. There are plenty of plain roms out there you can try. I just wanted something with a little more umph. Good luck!

well does liberty 1.5 come with the stock froyo skin? or is there a Gingerbread rom already out for the DX?

Liberty comes with a froyo-ish skin. There isn't a GB ROM out for the X yet, but droid2169 (same dev who does Rubix) is working on getting GB to boot on the Dx. He's getting close on it, but there are still some bugs to be worked out. Had some issues with USB mounting last time I checked with him.
The closest you are going to get to vanilla android is either focused or fission
What is this Vanilla thing you are talking about? Is that the name of a ROM that has default froyo / gingerbread them on it?
Also, I don't know if someone already answered this, but the themse people were talking about before: Are they available right after deodexing? Or do I Nhave to install a specific rom THEN theme my phone?
Vanilla means original android experience or as close to it as the kernel allows. That's how I understand it.
Sent from my Droid X running Liberty 1.5 custom using xda premium app
oohh ok
If you want to theme the stock rom you have to deodex your phone and then load theme... if you want to theme a rom you need to load the rom (which are already deodexed) then load the theme.... themes are rom specific ie an apex rom is meant for apex and a liberty theme is meant for liberty... there's guides all over the internet for any method you choose

Hi i am new here and to new to android . I want to flash my xperia x10 form the stock software to 2.2 or higher. I have read most of the guides and am still unsure which rom and baseband to use. I am running Ubuntu 10.
thanks
I would suggest Wolfbreak's CM 6.1.3, it's fast and stable, and looks nice =)
It is also easy to install since it needs baseband .54, which you can get it from the .435 stock firmware directly.

i would have to agree that Wolfbreak's CM 6.1.3 would be the rom of choice. It is super stable and quite fast too.
You will need to root your phone, and then install xRecovery. Then you can install ROMS from the xRecovery menu.
Root using superoneclick and then copy the xRecovery APK to your phone and install it. Download the ROM files and copy them to your SD card, reboot into xRecovery and follow the ROM installation steps (backup all your stuff on your phone first - i suggest My Backup Root (from the market) - provided you have rooted it already). If you want to try different basebands, i have included a link for them too.
As for doing all this from ubuntu - i think you will need to be running a Windows VM or find another pc that has Windows installed, i tried from Ubuntu myself but it was just easier from a Winblows machine.

I'm also kind of a noob, but I really want to make this stuff work...
I took this thread as a base, I currently have the 2.1 official update on my X10. So far I used the superclick tool and it said it rooted my phone (how can I make sure it worked?)
Then I downloaded the stuff and run the xRecovery app, it said it granted some superuser thing, but then I see nothing else...
Any help appreciated, specially if I skipped some steps maybe?
if you want to check if you are rooted, intall titanium backup and see if the app runs. If it does, then you've got root.
I didnt get what you wanted to ask in the second part of your question though..
I was missing an app from the market
Ok I got it working
So far I'm testing this new stuff...woah, amazing.
Any recommendations of things (ROMs) I should try?
p.s. I got no signal and WiFi won't turn on... I guess this is normal?

Second that Wolfbreak's CM 6.1.3 is one of the most complete 2.2 roms. But you'll want to look up post on how to:
- root your phone
- install xRecovery (requires busybox), and how to use it
In case if you "brick" your phone or get stuck in a boot loop, look up for "flashtool".
Hope this helps.

How do you get it to the right setting? and someone told me it drains your battery. is this true?
Yes battery life isn't that great but acceptable for me.
~24 hours under medium usage
~12-15 hours under heavy use
You need to have your focus setting set to infinity to have better audio sync.
To be honest I don't think the camcorder is up to average user's standard, but camera works just fine.
Things I like from this rom are:
- improved performance (very few lags, things run much smoother than stock 2.1 especially when texting)
- android 2.2 apps & features (gmail 2.3, flash, JIT...)
- no random reboots
- the unlock slider does not lag after the screen is off for awhile
Known issues to my knowledge:
- incomplete camcorder
- no live wallpaper
In case you haven't noticed tho, devs here have figured out a way to bypass x10's bootloader. This will enable us to load custom kernels.
All the roms here before the breakthrough are only built on top of the stock 2.1 kernel. That's causing some limitations in developing custom roms (issues such as having a working driver for x10 camera)
So if u can wait for a bit I'm sure there will be better roms (with android 2.3) coming in the next couple months! And Sony has announced there will be official 2.3 upgrade coming possibly during this summer.
However I've been using wolfbreak's CM 6.1.3 for over a month now, would really recommend it if ur not that into video recording lol

i m using HTC wildfire with foryo 2.2 version. i am not able to enable live wallpapers, pl guide me how can i do this. also do i need to root my cell first or not?
It's not supported on official 2.2. So yes, you will have to root and load a Custom ROM which supports it, like WildPuzzle. (And several others)
You have to root your WF and flash a Custom ROM, nearly all of them support Live Wallpaper...
But do not forget, the CPU/GPU of the WF is not very strong, so a live Wallpaper will slow down your phone !
I believe it is not impossible to enable live wallpapers on stock rooted rom. But who works on a stock rom when they can flash a better custom rom.
Little idea: extract livewallpapers.apk from sense custom roms and make it as a system app on rooted stock rom.
Better root and try. Although other HTC phones have it even without rooting. And another thing is you can expect a superfast battery drain if enabled.

I am such an idiot ;-) Untill I've found the time to dedicate myself to a new ROM, I will continue to mess around in the stock one!
I can confirm that you can get livewallpapers working on the stock Froyo ROM, but not with HTC Sense. So if you want it to work on the wildfire stock ROM you:
- have to be rooted
- have to flash the attached zip trough recovery
- have to use an other homescreen launcher then sense.
Note that it only comes with two wallpapers (the only two I like, but you can remove them like any other app). You can install new ones just by going to the market and search for live wallpapers.
If you want the combination Live Wallpapers and HTC Sense, you:
- have to be rooted
- have to flash a custom ROM as suggested above.
Erwin
EDIT
Almost forgot: the files in the update.zip are extracted from the WildPuzzleROM_2.2.1 v0.8, so all credits go to danne_jo!
hi,
sorry if i have reposted this i have looked around but not found an EXACT answer.
my question is,
i have installed ATK and set an "ignore list" to all the apps which i want to keep running (eg. Calender) and all widgets.
i have turned AutoKill and AutoStart off
and i am not using the widget (kill via opening app in drawer)
will this speed up my phone atall or am i better off whithout it?
is there any better settings you can reccomend?
Thanks alot
Are you on Stock Rom ?
I would not recommend using a task killer because Android is a multi-tasking OS and closing certain tasks can cause instabilities.
The only time they are useful is if you want to force close an application due to it not responding, which you can do by going into settings.
Using a task killer will most probably not speed up the wildfire nor will it save much battery.
If you find the Wildfire slow, OC it by rooting and flashing a custom kernel.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA Premium App
On stock ROM I sometimes found it useful to use when there was not enough memory available (< 95 MB) and the phone started running slower. On CM7 I constantly have about 180 MB left so no need for the taskkiller, the phone runs smooth enough without it
Thank you all!
Firstly i am on stock rom, and there are just a few apps which i would jsut like to keep closed, such as Gmail (i use the HTC mail instead) or peep, talk and Maps. but if it isnt reccomended i will change.
i want to keep sense, i have used LauncherPro but find Sense UI far better.
how would i go about overclocking? i have read a tutorial about rooting but doesnt look easy for a first time android user,

Sense 2.0 (i think)

If your rooted then get titanian backup and freeze apps you dont want to be running at all it stops them without uninstalling and without the need to keep killing it. So i advise you to root.
If you want to overclock then you need root and custom recovery to flash an overclockable kernel such as jacobs. Or a rom with an overclockable kernel 'built in'
Rooting is fairly easy really so long as you have researched and are careful good luck.

After you follow the instructions in that thread and are successfully rooted, seeing as you like the Sense UI; I recommend you use JokerDroid as your ROM as it uses Sense. You can download it at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=999899
Once you have downloaded it, either use ROM Manager or Recovery to flash it and you'll be up and running with Sense.
Next, I think that JokerDroid is already overclocked; but if it isn't, go to the following link where you can download SetCPU which will enable you to overclock ( to 768MHz ):

You will notice a big difference when you root your Wildfire, it will be like a completely new phone! If you need any help with any of the above don't hesitate to message me. Good luck!

Your mobile is now in factory condition with Non Root access.
So first try to get the feel of having a rooted device.
Advantage is that you will be elevated to a super user(term in linux for an admin user) - google how to Root zte blade, u will see a modaco link for that. Do that first and once u get a hang of having a rooted device proceed on to Installing Recovery, then a new ROM
hope this helps.. I am new user in xda so i cant post links... sorry
The last stock update for blade is 2.2. And I'm not sure whether 2.3 stock will be available to blade or not.
But u can always have customised 2.3 AOSP roms.

Then there is elitemovil, LOT OF OPTIONS..... definitely worth a try. am going to jump into that after using gsf.

I remember task manager is a stock app of zte blade. No wonder if u find it missing in custom roms.
Removing /system/apps requires rooting. Use "titanium backup" or "root uninstaller" applications to remove those system apps. Those are the GUI tools for uninstalling system apps. You can also do it with command-line adb shell from a PC.

I have realised that I cant share my laptop Vista Internet as programs like connectify will only create Ad Hoc connections and Android 2.2 wont detect the same.. Various forums suggests replacing wpa_supplicant.. wonder if anyone has done it and how far it was successful..
