[Q] TF101 ASUS Transformer Bricked? What? Please...Help? - Eee Pad Transformer General

I think I am gonna speak out the honest truth and say I wasn't lying, and here goes...
I followed up on Brks Root Kit v7 and it worked beautifully, then I saw another thread about getting root with losing the bricking fault, so I tried the nvflash to remove bricking...but I think I rewrote it too fast before thinking I better check the APPs on my Transformer and see if I got a super user apk in there, but I didn't and forgot to hestitate but bricked my TF101 Transformer
Help, It only is showing power up when I press it and gets stuck at boot of ASUS Screen page.

It's not bricked yet. Read the forum carefully mate.

run the nvflash again, make sure the recover and rom images are in the nvflash folder. it wil unbrick your TF, reroot and install the rom you put in the folder.

[SOLVED] Stuck in APX mode, can't boot into CWM

Hi all, I've been having problems with my transformer... again. This time I have my transformer successfully rooted with an updated CWM, and flashed PRIME 1.6 and Netformer 1.5. The problem started when I held down power and selected the recovery option in the shutdown menu. the tablet went into a bootloop until I put it into APX mode to run the unbricking tool stickied in the dev section. For some reason, the tool didn't work and it did NOT say "phone update success on the tablet screen."
I then turned it off and my computer makes the USB disconnect sound, but then makes the connect sound right after, and Nvidia USB recovery shows up in device manager again, which means that it is stuck in APX mode. I cannot boot into CWM and I cannot boot up normally because it just dumps me back into APX.
I found a thread of someone who was also stuck in APX mode, but it doesn't help because he just returned the tablet whereas I cannot. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1169097
So to recap, I am stuck in APX mode, I can't boot normally or into CWM, and the unbricking tool does not work. Help please? I am starting to seriously regret flashing anything
EDIT: I did it! Thanks to all for the responses, I finally followed this guide to nv_flash prime 1.6r2 to my tablet and now it boots! The problem turned out to be that when I used the unbricking tool, it formatted all my data so the tablet was not able to boot into anything. By nv_flashing a rom onto it, it had something to boot into... again, thanks!
Anyone have any ideas? If I can't fix this then $400 went down the drain
Have you tried nvflash? I had that problem but nvflashing prime worked for me.

Did you actually flash a rom? That can happen when you dont have the appropriate files in the directory. Refer to the video that demonstrating an NVflash.

Yes, I flashed prime 1.6 and booted it successfully. I used the "recovery" option in the shutdown menu and that caused the bootloop, i never got into cwm

I didn't, but it did boot up fine, which means it was a legitimate download right?
I think I'll just try to send it to asus and see what they can do since NVflash doesn't work
I would probably download again, check the MD5 and reinstall.

Are you sure you know what nv_flash is? This is only run in apx mode.
Did you try the one click batch method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1185104
See whether that works for you...
keep this thread open, I would really like to know what the OP did to get out of this mess.
I would also like to know if other peeps running Prime 1.6 can press the recovery button instead of shutdown for some testing.
What kind of testing? I just did root a TF, backed it up, installed Prime, clicked the Recovery button and did a back up. Zero trouble.
I think this is my 7th or 8th root. People at work just keep bringing them to my office
It sounds like you didn't have a Rom when you nvflashed. If you just downloaded nvflash file in the stickied unbricking post then you will format everything without putting anything back on. You need to Rom that was built nvflash and put it in the root directory of the nvflash folder. There are some stock Roms available somewhere & also a prime 1.4 nvflash. They will install a recovery and then you can flash whatever you want from there.

I am currently running Prime 1.6 and i did a recovery method the other day to update a rom and it worked just fine.
I did it since i updated from 1.5 to prime 1.6 and had to re install the Clemsyn-blades cause the overclocking rom got disabled after update...
Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll try the link that Q.Entity posted first.

Okay so the unbricking nvflash formats everything, meaning I can't boot normally because I have no ROM? Shouldn't I still be able to boot into CWM though?
Also, the prime 1.4 nvflash thread you're talking about is this right? If I follow that guide will it install prime 1.4 during the nvflash process? If so, that will probably solve my problem
should work, but why stop there, I went ahead and popped on Prime 1.6 and then flashed a different kernel as well. I mean, I nvflashed from temp brick, perhaps like yours, and instead of flashing 1.4 prime I went ahead and did 1.6 since I already had the zip. I also at some point did the unbricking nvflash to stock rom, then used the pure root for tranformer method that includes CWM and then flashed Prime. regardless, both ways I was temp bricked. The key for me was knowing that I was in APX mode even though Device Manager in wndows 7 64bit did not show I was. Hope I could help, I am only speaking from my OWN experience with this device and prior mistakes.
EDiT: I also noted as some point that I could not get into recovery becuase I was not paying attention to my recovery screen. If all is correct, then when you hold down Vol- and power button, you are only given 5 seconds to press vol+ button to enter CWM.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium App
The batch pure root script didn't work for me, even though I tried nvflashing the stock boot.img and recovery. No matter what, I couldn't get out of APX mode. The transformer immediately turns back on and puts me back into APX mode after I turn it off. Device manager and the USB connect/disconnect sounds confirm this. I'm afraid there's no way to get out
Why are you doing a pure root, after nv_flash. Why not just nv_flash prime 1.6 and be done? That will have everything working.
Yep.. your doing things kinda backwords.

You're going to return the TF?
Why even enter the world of rooting and tweaking if your first solution is to return the whole device? It's not like the Transformer is gimped if you don't root it, it's not a Viewsonic Gtab.
Anyway, nvFlash is incredibly simple. Install drivers, put tablet in APX mode, run the proper file inside nvFlash folder and that should be it - it will give you stock and unrooted 3.1 with 8.4.4.5 update.
I am returning cause it wont charge I am actually looking for a exchange

Problems seeing any OTA update

Hey, I am having a problem with my B70 TF101 Transformer. I am not seeing any available OTA updates at all. ICS may not be out yet for me, but I don't even see the .21 update.
Here's some background, everything was fine and I was running a rooted Transformer. I installed Busybox off the market and it proceeded to remove root and make everything stop working (wireless, bluetooth, a number of other things).
I ran these steps:
Update. trippmcnealy had success with a tweak to this. If it doesn't work you might want to follow his method.
1) Download http://www.multiupload.com/X65RBVD2MB
2) Unzip so you have just have "WW_epad-user-8.6.6.19.zip". Keep this zipped and copy to root of external SD.
3) Put another copy of the same file on your external SD card and name it "EP101_SDUPDATE.zip"
4) Put both files "EP101_SDUPDATE.zip" and "WW_epad-user-8.6.6.19.zip" on the root of your internal SD card.
5) Power down your TF
6) Power up into recovery - by pressing the power button and volume down button. Then press volume up when instructed by the screen.
7) You should now see the Android guy with some gears turning. This is good, actually this is GREAT! This will go on for a minute or so and then the device will reboot on its own. It will then go to the boot screen and you should see a bar showing you the progress of the update.
8) Once it has completed, install RazorClaw and root your device.
It allowed me to recover root and I am running .19 once more. Everything currently works beautifully, except I do not have any OTA updates available.
My concerns are twofold: I used WW_epad-user-8.6.6.19.zip as suggested, however I am in the US. I am wondering if that has an impact. I am also wondering if I don't see any updates because it THINKS I have .21 already completed somehow?
Any ideas?
I think 8.6.6.xx is for 3G version and the last version is 8.6.6.23. What tablet do you have?... Is only wifi or 3G version?..

You do have a custom rom on your tablet, you need to get the original update 8.6.5.21(US or WW) from asus web page and flash to stock. Then you will be able to get the OTA ICS rom.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
If you currently have WW_8.6.5.21 can you flash to US_8.6.5.21 or would that cause a problem. I have not been able to find that answered for the TF101
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
I'm confused as to how I got a custom ROM without root access at the time. Following those steps again with 8.6.5.21 is what I've been trying and it never sees the update. I put the file on both the internal and external SD in the root with two files named correctly.
I am downloading these zip files right off of ASUS' support site.

Well, now that the thread derailment is over. For anyone who is reading this looking for help in a similar situation, here is what I did:
- I installed RecoveryInstaller.apk (Google'd for it) so I could get CWM on the Tablet.
- I then upgraded to 8.6.5.21 with that. I lost root (and CWM), but did not see any OTA updates.
- I sort of gave up at this point, since I assume it's past recovering without wiping my tablet AGAIN (had to wipe it when I did the upgrade which got me into this mess).
- I then found an upgrade to ICS which does not kill root, so I re-installed CWM with RecoveryInstaller and then flashed to ICS with that. I probably still won't see OTA updates, but I have CWM and root so I can just flash them manually if needed.
Not an elegant solution, but I lost no data and my Android tablet appears to be running just fine.

Just keep trying, wait a couple of hours and try again, my bet is that asus are overwhelmed with so many download requests. Failing download doesn't mean that your system is damaged or anything, after download if you get a laying android with a ! on top, then its failing installation.

[Q] Can't root, Upset/dissapointed/depressed

Yea, im starting to regret buying dis thing. Ive spent the whole day going through tutorials and stuff, and all ive managed to do is install a custom recovery (CWM) that cant mount anything because its being denied permission. how dandy... I have a TF300T and build 10.6.1.27.5. I've heard that this build is not rootable, but im trying to stay optimistic here, so if you want to ruin my month by saying there is no root... well Ill go kick a rock around the freeway. Im just kidding. But seriously this is complicated. I have a rooted Samsung E4GT. which is alot easier cause of Odin, but this... idk im lost. Ive tried Motochopper and Debugfs or something like that, tried many, cant root it. Looking for some help
Cheers
I was in the same boat. I ess able to downgrade though. And then root. It was very simple. I downloaded 10.6.1.15.3 firmware for US localization ( make sure you get the right one). I unzipped it and put the file on the root of my external sdcard. As soon as I put the sdcard back in it immediately prompted me to downgrade. Worked great for me, was able to root after that no problems.

What he said. Hope is not lost, my friend. Just be mindful that the process erases the internal memory. In other words, this will wipe EVERYTHING including media, which normally doesn't get speed when flashing roms.
Just be sure to back up everything on your pc and/or external sd.

So does thats not a OTA update right? I read that you can mess up your device if you install the wrong version of the recovery depends on how you updated it
I just got my hands on this device last week. I'm not new to Android or any of this, but I did run into a few issues. I was on 27.5 now I'm unlocked and everything.
How I did it was too downgrade to 15.3 using pjc21 guide, I could not complete the guide as I was not unlocked, but once I was downgraded I could unlock and use motochopper to get recovery.

Do your self a favor. Install twrp . Cwm is going to give you problems. Also I'm on 27.5 firmware. All updated. Then installed sdbags clean rom. It's based of 27.1 and fully rooted. Best and latest.

YAY, finally... rooted and custom recovery. Thanks guys for all the help!
Wait, if you installed recovery then you're unlocked. Flash twrp recovery v2.5.0.0-4.2. Next, download supersu.zip...somewhere around here and put in root of your internal storage. Last go into recovery, flash supersu.zip and you're rooted.
