Is it possible to port Cm7 to galaxy tab 10.1v? Would be great. ;-)

CM7, MIUI ... all great but without source for honeycomb not really
With the release of the Ice Cream Sandwich source they will get on the tablets for sure!

While it is probably possible to port CM7 to the tab 10.1, someone would need to do the work.
And I doubt anyone would want to port a phone OS to a tablet OS.
CM7 is gingerbread only, which is phone only (those 7 inch tablets running gingerbread don't make very good tablets to me).
I doubt honeycomb source will ever get released and thus not viable for cyanogen mod.
I would not be suprised however that cyanogen will port ice cream sandwich though, for which the source will be available. That might be called CM8 then.
This future CM8 may be ported to the tab 10.1 then...
However, if it ever comes, it will not be this year.

Why don´t we have custom roms yet??
Wasn´t the source code dropped already??
When was the source dropped?

Since you think it dropped already go ahead and make one
What's the time frame they have to release the HC Source Code? Don't they HAVE to release it?
The Honeycomb sources will never be released. Google announced that at Google IO a few weeks ago, they will only release source code for Icecream Sandwich, which will unify phone (2.x) and Tablet (3.x) Android.
The reason they gave is Honeycomb is a hacked together version kinda rushed out for tablets, and they don't want anyone to see what a mess it is. (ok, that is my interpretation, their actual explanation is "this isn't a proper Android release as we took shortcuts to get it shipped ASAP for tablets, and we don't want devs to rely on these").

So is it for sure that we are not having custom roms for honeycomb 3.0 or 3.1? I remember someone (i believe it was bigrushdog) saying that the custom roms were just around the corner....and that was 1 month ago....
I believe some people were able to make some kind of homebrew ROMs based on the SDK. How that works exactly I don't know, someone with better Android technical knowledge than me might know.

They were able to port for other devices. But ports usually aren't the most stable things around - also no need for us to port...we have HC. We can't deodex and zip align without source. So anything a dev could do right now would be limited to some minor themeing.
You will never see a Honeycomb based custom rom (other then crappy reverse engineered SDK ones) because Google's not going to release 3.0 or 3.1 source code... You're gunna have to wait till Ice Cream Sandwich in Q4 to see any AOSP based ROMs (like CyanogenMod)
A better question might be if by the end of the year the Xoom will be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich?

Seeing as how Google said they will require manufacturers to support their devices for 18 months if they wish to use Android on their products at I/O this year, I'd assume so.

And if Motorola does't... Source code will be available then for homebrew Icecream Sandwich if needed.
just wondering... icecream sandwhich sounds deliecious...
3.1 is not ice cream sandwich. That's going to be android 4.0 which hasn't even been released yet buddy.

Although 3.1 is rocking. Looking forward to the usb peripheral support. Toshiba thrive out next month. Grabbing it the day it comes out.
I read somewhere units with micro usb supporting 3.1 can still utilize this function with an adapter.
Fyi 3.1 is still honey comb

sorry 4.0 then. i ask because i saw a article somewhere from like may or somthin of 2010 that said wed be getting it soon so was just wondering if it ever came out. didnt know its not even in beta yet...
Ice Cream Sandwich is going to be farrrrr away. And I believe it's going to be 2.4
It's going to appear first on the Nexus 3 later this winter, probably around Christmas. So take account the time for Google to open source it, and then for Cyanogen to cook it up... We'll probably won't see Ice Cream Sandwich on this phone until early next year. Probably around Jan-Feb at the earliest.
Our first chance of seeing IceCreamSammich on this phone will likely be with CyanogenMod when ICS is released to AOSP. I'm too big a fan of some of the Sense underpinnings and apps (camera, browser) to use CM7, but for ICS, I might just go with CM8.
yea i use dolphin browser and the camera is the only thing i like about sense roms... aosp are so raw royal ginger is where its at ... bluemagic theme with adw ex is dope
I just read this article saying that the Nexus 4G will be Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich".

AOSP is the only way to go.
w/ either LPP or ADW/EX.
I think it would make the most sense to make Ice cream Sandwich 4.0. 3.x is tablets, 2.x is smartphones. since it doesn't fit in either specifically, it probably will need a new number.
And chances are it will leak out on to phones through the SDK at some point. I've heard that the emulator for the versions is released long before it is open sourced so devs can make apps for it. people are expecting it to appear in the SDK as early as Q3 this year. We can hope, right?
Someone knows if Asus have plans to upgrade the Transformer with the upcoming version of Android?

They better do that, atthe moment Transformer is not a whole ecosystem, and the fact that honeycomb will ceasse to exist, indicate any future update, which was officially promised to extend to an 18 month period by google, will make me deduce that Ice Cream is indeed in the future of my beloved device
I don't understand Honeycomb, there was and is much talk that Honeycomb needs more time to mature and have more apps to rival IOS but it seems they switched gears to ICS. It looks like Honeycomb is an aborted baby or some band aid solution until they release ICS in the fall, that would be less than a year for HC.
The app developers have no real incentive to push out apps when a new OS is around the corner and with the new OS it would be even more time for teething issues. I think Android tablets users are getting the short end of the stick.
Honeycomb and ICS are not different OS's. ICS is simply an update to Honeycomb, like how 3.1 was an update from 3.0. It will be the update from 3.2 to 4.0. It is the same thing as how phones got updated from 2.1 to 2.2 to 2.3. Next up for phones is the jump from 2.3 to 4.0, because ICS is the unification of the tablet and phone sides of Android.
If a dev is waiting on ICS to build an app, then they are both wasting time and potential revenue from selling the app, because the app will work perfectly fine on ICS. Google does everything they can to ensure that apps can scale and evolve both through various devices, and OS versions.
TLDR;
ICS is just an update to Honeycomb.
Edit: Also, Google has stated that ICS will be open sourced, and since we have root on our devices, I would say with absolute certainty that we will be able to have ICS roms. I wouldn't worry too much if there is an official update or not because of that. You'll get your Ice Cream and YOU WILL LIKE IT!!
You are true AstroTrain. Honeycomb was hacked together from the phone versions to quickly rush out a tablet pltform. Ice Cream would be a true tablet OS along with a phone OS.
The transformer is a very hackable device. If there isnt an official release there will be a dev release. All of the iconias are locked and some of the 10.1s are locked, which is why the transformer is the best honeycomb tablet on the market rightmost.

I'm planning to grab an ASUS Eee Pad Transformer + Dock this Christmas (Mom said she'll get me one!). I'm a big fan of Cyanogenmod 7 and have been using it ever since I had my NookColor. Just thought I'd ask if Cyanogenmod team would be continuing their -EPIC- work in honeycomb tablets and releasing a Cyanogenmod 8 ROM or something?
Just curious.
AFAIK Google hasn't release Honeycomb sources publicly and hence there will be no CM for HC till that is true. Maybe for IceCream Sandwich, after Google release the source code.

I think you've said backward of what she asked.
Basically, she wants the reverse direction
@OP, I wouldn't want to do that.
This forum is for the Nook Color. Please post the question in the general sections: "Android Development and Hacking"

Don't buy the newer versions of transformer. B70 models, the most current transformers have a NEW locked bootloader and cannot be rooted yet. The older ones where unlocked because the keys where leaked. We even rooted it before the boot loader was done. So even if cm was available, no way to flash it currently. Check to see if it gets unlocked first. I hope they do, because future transformers are in my future.
Ice Cream Sandwich Source Code release "when it's available on devices" -- Nov 10?
Looks like google is getting ready to release the ICS source code pretty soon!
This is from the google android googlegroup:
We plan to release the source for the recently-announced Ice Cream Sandwich soon, once it’s available on devices.
And this leaked roadmap from Verizon that says that the Nexus will be available on November 10th.
So we might have a source code release any day after November 10th! *crosses fingers*
can't wait for ICS on our tab
That would be great of course, but i think they will release the source when it's available on other devices than the galaxy nexus. So december...
But we'll see
Want want want.... Sandwich.
i hope this addresses many issues. i paid $600US for this tablet and my ipad 1st gen feels a lot more polished than this os

IMHO, the iPad does feel more polished than the Galaxy tab.
There are limitations on what you can do an iPad, but for most part whatever it is capable of doing, it does it quite well. I occasionally still use my iPad 2 when my Galaxy tab is charging and it's indeed a pleasure to use.
I don't know if ICS will change this for the Galaxy tab, but I sure hope it does. BTW, does anyone have a good link to list of improvements in ICS (apart from the new features they demo-ed last week)?
